Summary

WE ARE HIRING!
Bishopthorpe Palace operates as a multi-functional premises, hosting working offices, meeting rooms, worship areas and living quarters. The palace and its grounds are also used for charity open days, retreats, evening receptions, village fetes, and more.
The Executive Legal Officer will be based in Bishopthorpe Palace, the Archbishop of York. You will work in a small, friendly and close-knit team liaising closely with colleagues in the Archbishop of Canterbury's office at Lambeth Palace, to ensure alignment of working practices across the Office of the Archbishops.
Core Responsibilities
  • To keep updated on the main requirements of the Church of England's legislation Clergy Discipline Measure (CDM), Rules and Code of Practice and the incoming Clergy Code of Conduct Measure.
  • the post holder is required to liaise with the Archbishop of York on potential, current, and past CDM cases and make the necessary administrative arrangements, including research and preparation of correspondence and briefing papers, and liaison with staff connected with CDM issues within the Church of England.
  • To support the Archbishop of York on a number of his most important metropolitical functions, including clergy discipline and Canon C4 processes. In addition, they provide support to the Archbishop's team in other areas of legislation such as data protection policies and procedures.
  • To liaise with the Archbishop of York regarding applications for Canon C4 faculties (the process to allow certain candidates for ordination to proceed to training) received from Diocesan Bishops in the Northern Province.
Other Key Requirements
  • This is a hybrid role, with the expectation to work from the primary office 2-3 days per week.
  • A basic DBS check will be required as part of our pre-employment checks.

WHAT WE OFFER
Your Salary
  • A salary of £37,261.60 (FTE £46,577) per annum, plus age-related pension contributions between 8-15% of salary. We will also match any pension contributions you make up to an additional 3% of your salary.
