Communication Manager we're seeking to appoint will play vital role in helping us to fulfil our mission and vision, working with the team, supporters and communities we serve.

Additionally, this role engages and inspires supporters to contribute towards the organisations’ mission, by crafting and sharing compelling narratives. This involves telling the stories of our partners with respect, highlighting their resilience and achievements, in line with our partnership approach. The Communications Manager showcases how community members are realising their potential, demonstrating the impact of All We Can and Y Care International’s work in fostering sustainable development and positive change.

We are looking for a Service Manager to lead our dedicated supported housing team and help us with or mission to end homelessness by supporting people towards independence.

About the role

As Service Manager, you will continuously enhance the quality and best practices of our services, supporting individuals who have experienced homelessness and face a wide range of social and health challenges.

In this role, you will work closely with our new CEO and as a key part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) to develop and implement Threshold’s strategic and business plans. You will report directly to the CEO, providing insights and updates on our progress. This position has a particular focus on supported housing and community-based services. You will play a critical role in the development of service delivery, activities and ensuring good outcomes for residents.

Policy and Communications Manager

 £40,000 per annum (FTE)

Office base Liverpool Street, London EC2M – Commonweal operates a flexible hybrid working policy requiring staff to attend the office base at least 2 days per week one of which is our Tuesday anchor day when all staff are in the office.

Commonweal is an independent charity working to investigate, pilot and champion housing based solutions to social injustice.  Using our charitable resources, we provide experts and partner organisations with the opportunity to trial and test new approaches designed to enhance housing equality and justice. Independently evaluating each of our projects we share our experiences, using this learning to inspire new thinking. Through the replication of what works and the lessons from what doesn’t, we influence changes in policy and practice.  In addition, we commission other research identifying and spotlighting new areas of housing injustice. 

As Policy and Communications Manager, reporting directly to the CEO and working as part of and alongside our project leads you will formulate our policy messages.  You will help lead on stakeholder engagement and growing the understanding across our sector of who Commonweal are and what we can offer.  You will shape and then develop and deliver the strategy for effectively communicating our growing range of positive project findings and aligning our PR to public policy research initiatives. In short your role will be to put comms in to action!

You will need to have experience of the voluntary and community sector as well public policy, the political environment and its current and potential implications for the charity.  You will be regularly presenting to Trustee Board meetings, ensuring Trustees and colleagues are involved and updated on external affairs activities to embed support for communications activities.  You will be supported in this role by a Communications Officer therefore experience of staff management would be desirable but not necessarily essential.

You will possess experience of working in a communications or PR environment, with strong written skills and design skills along with demonstrable knowledge of a range of communication channels (including print, broadcast and online media). Experience of liaison with the press and media securing the take up of press releases, opinion pieces or other outputs is important.

Ideally you will have experience in the field of housing or, homelessness, but certainly a demonstrable interest in the positive role for housing whether professionally, personally or through lived experience.  However, more important is demonstrable experience of policy research and stakeholder engagement, especially communicating to influence and deliver impact to Parliamentarians, local authorities and others across the voluntary sector and public service environment.  Staff or volunteer management would be helpful however a track record of building successful working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, strong organisational skills and the ability to work on your own initiative are all a must.

Commonweal Housing is an action learning charity using housing to combat social injustice. We provide the space for partner organisations to investigate and test bespoke housing for people facing different social injustices. Since 2007 we have allocated over £12 million for such projects and currently have a portfolio of around 40 homes which are used by our partners to deliver innovative pilot models. 

Whilst investigating and testing new ideas is central to our mission, we believe that sharing knowledge and replicating projects is a fundamental measure of our success.

The role of Policy & Communications Manager at Commonweal Housing is to share the learning from our projects. From inception through to evaluation, each project produces learning about how best to support people through housing. The Policy & Communications Manager is at the forefront of making sure this learning is seen and understood by the right people and has the impact we aim for.

Using a range of communications tactics, the Policy & Communications Manager will help to spread the word about our projects and our purpose in order to influence practice and policy. Managing a Communications Officer, the post-holder will be able to spot opportunities and communicate our work in a creative and engaging way to ensure that we not only test housing solutions to social injustice, but embed them and that our communications has impact and changes policy

Building upon a range of comms platforms and innovations such as podcasts, specially commissioned anthologies and reports, webinars and traditional press releases and social media you can be imaginative, bold and ambitious about how we can achieve our 2025 ambition:

JOB SUMMARY:

Working with colleagues, notably the Chief Executive, Deputy CEO and Senior Programmes Manager, the Policy & Communications Manager will lead on Commonweal Housing’s communications and policy influencing. 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communications

• Oversee all communications channels, including but not limited to media and press, content writing, branding, website and social channels, events, newsletters, reports and briefings
• Effectively line manage the Communications Officer in accordance with Commonweal’s policies and procedures supporting their personal and career development
• Work with colleagues and external partners to identify key project learning messages and opportunities for policy influencing.
• Maintain a continued output of communications content to highlight our work, partnerships and charitable goals effectively
• Take the lead on planning and management events organised by the charity such as receptions, seminars, round table meetings and / or other events
• Grow the reputation of Commonweal in the sector to ensure impact on policy decisions
• Brief and manage external suppliers such as printers and designers to support the delivery of communications activity
• Track and evaluate communications performance to achieve continual improvement and to keep key internal stakeholders (namely Trustees and staff) up to date on progress via internal briefings and board papers
• Develop relevant key media contacts to highlight and profile Commonweal’s work effectively

Policy & Influencing

• Identify and develop opportunities for influencing policy across a broad spectrum of social injustices
• Working with and advising the Commonweal Executive Team to establish positive links with Parliamentarians, civil servants and others to ensure our communications and policy messages are heard and understood in the right palces.
• Work with colleagues and external partners to ensure project reports are accessible, meaningful and impactful within the policy arena
• Work with sector experts and project delivery partners to raise the profile of social injustices identified by our projects to support existing or developing campaigns
• Maintain an up to date and coherent map of stakeholders and opportunities for influence from Commonweal’s work and learning
• Work with the CEO, DCEO and Senior Programme Manager to horizon scan for future opportunities for Commonweal and/or partners and projects
• Be Commonweal’s key point of contact with the University of Birmingham for whom we sponsor a third-year student bursary for the School of Social Policy – engaging with the student bursary awardees and presenting annually to second year students about the bursary opportunity
• Maintain up to date knowledge and awareness of the growing social investment market and the opportunity this offers for the replication of Commonweal supported projects

Other

1. Represent and promote the image of the charity at both internal and external events and maintain a good working relationship with suppliers, service users, external stakeholders and other charities.

The Operations Manager works closely with the CEO to provide high-quality operational and financial management to underpin our service delivery designed to improve the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ community members and people living with HIV. The post-holder will:

• Drive the development and quality improvement of our financial policies, procedures, and business processes, ensuring that they are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as consistent with Trade’s values.
• Support the good governance of Trade’s work through the provision of high-quality, accurate management information and reporting.
• Be a team player able to foster team working and continuous improvement.

As the Manager of our Integrated Sexual Health Service (ISHS) in Hertfordshire you will lead a team of five staff to deliver a dynamic sexual health education and prevention service. You will work with colleagues from the NHS, pharmacies and community stakeholders to deliver in local communities, ensuring better sexual health outcomes for the local population.  You will work with the METRO training and communications team to ensure the delivery of that METRO’s services are communicated across a wide range of targeted audiences, and that a high standard of training programmes for professionals and service users are delivered. The services you will oversee consist of a condom distribution scheme, the National Chlamydia Screening programme (NCSP), sexual health promotion and campaigns, training and education and support for schools and colleges.

Programme

METRO is working in partnership with Central London Community Healthcare Trust (CLCH), to deliver our ISHS in Hertfordshire. In this contract, the METRO team will be fully integrated and co-located within CLCH’s services in Hertfordshire, delivering outreach activities in the local community tailored to local needs. The service aims to reach those who are most vulnerable or at risk, and involves collaboration with local outreach organisations targeting LGBTQ+ people, speakers of other languages, young people, and those living in more deprived areas.

Role

You will play an active role in our management team at METRO, supporting your colleagues to deliver across the Sexual and Reproductive Health domain. You will be required to attend regular meetings with the Head of domain and other managers. You will be responsible for ensuring that METRO services in Hertfordshire are integrated within our wider offer, and supporting staff to feel a part of the wider METRO team.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Training Manager to join the HR team on a full-time basis. This role will be responsible for leading and supporting in the delivery of our staff training programme, overseeing all our people development activities, and ensuring that our statutory training requirements are met. We want the staff training experience to be impactful, positive, engaging, and meaningful to provide our workforce with all the skills, knowledge, and understanding they need to deliver first-class support to our young people, whatever their role.

As well as commissioning external training, we currently deliver a variety of online and face-to-face training in-house - First Aid, CPR, GDPR, Manual Handling, NAPPI (Non-Abusive Psychological and Physical Intervention) to name a few. Our largest cohort for training is our care and support staff in our college, residential houses, adult day service, and supported living houses. We also have to ensure effective training is delivered for our estates team, catering staff, office staff, and our leaders and managers.

This role works closely with the senior leadership team to ensure a good understanding of business needs and the different operational teams to help propose the right training solutions delivered in the most impactful and cost-effective way to drive forward our strategic goals.

As part of the role, you will manage the in-house training system and staff training records and frequently update the training matrix, ensuring information is correct in a timely manner to issue monthly/termly reports to managers.

About you

You may be a training manager or have been involved in planning or delivering effective training for your staff team. Training experience within a health and social care setting is desirable. You need to have an understanding of the breadth of training required by an organisation like InFocus across very different operational teams. You will need good organisation skills and be pragmatic in finding the most effective ways to meet our training needs within a tight budget! You will also need to be a creative, confident person with excellent presentation skills who takes pride in delivering interactive, first-class training, ensuring all participants have a positive experience. Kate's Home Nursing is a local charity, with a team of dedicated nurses providing a Hospice at Home nursing service for people at the end of their lives. Our team is passionate, skilled and dedicated and the feedback we receive daily tells us how much people value our service.

The Fundraiser is responsible for income generation from all available sources and for increasing awareness of the charity.

Main duties and responsibilities
• Develop and maintain the Fundraising Strategy, for approval by the CEO and Trustees, ensuring it’s then taken up and executed.
• Setting, together with the CEO and Trustees, and managing the fundraising budget.
• Overall responsibility for fundraising events and campaigns, including creating, organising, attending and all follow up actions.
• Recruit sponsors and volunteers for fundraising purposes, maintaining the database for these, being responsible for induction and training.
• Working with volunteers.

• Ensuring we are up to date with and adhere to all data protection and fundraising regulations, following the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Conduct.
• Maintaining our Fundraising Policy, Volunteers Agreement and all other documentation relating to volunteers and fundraising.
• Supporting other people’s events, being the first point of contact for anyone raising funds on our behalf.
• Create and run marketing and promotional activities and materials.

• Maintaining and building relationships with supporters and donors.
• Responsibility for Just Giving and other fundraising platforms, this involves identifying and supporting new campaigns and fundraising events, thanking and providing full reports for the CEO.
• Responsibility for making full use of social media and our website in relation to all fundraising activities.

• Increasing regular monthly donations.

JOB SUMMARY

The Trusts Manager will be a driven individual with a background in securing five-, six-, and seven-figure gifts from charitable funders, corporate organisations, and/or Major Donors. Your primary responsibility will be to manage a diverse pool of Trusts and Foundations, both existing and prospective, to maximise philanthropic support across the RUH.

In this role, you will be pivotal in our Development Team, directly reporting to the Head of Development. Here, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the UK's most prominent Trusts and Foundations. Your objective will be to achieve targets by proactively identifying and cultivating relationships with Trusts and Foundations and writing compelling grant applications for our key projects (medical research, patient and staff support, capital campaigns, medical equipment, and 'the area of greatest need.'

The ideal candidate will be adept at nurturing lasting relationships with funders, working towards a team income target of over £1.5m. You will also be a confident stakeholder manager, working closely with clinicians, researchers, and senior leaders to identify some of the key RUH funding areas that can deliver impact.

Central to your success will be your ability to articulate compelling cases for support verbally and in writing, translating complex information into persuasive appeals and grant applications. You will have a proven track record of demonstrating initiative in seizing fundraising opportunities and championing the endeavours of Trusts and Foundations. Your role will secure significant contributions for transformative projects and cultivate a culture of donor-centric giving, fostering long-term partnerships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Development- The post holder will manage Trust and Foundation income and secure an annual income of £500k+ towards the total Development team target of £1.5m. The Trusts Manager will manage a portfolio of major gifts prospects and will be responsible for the cultivation and stewardship of, five, six and seven figures gifts.
• Management—Responsible for managing an established prospect pool and identifying new donors while effectively reporting against income projections. Demonstrate potential for line management capabilities, with the opportunity for supervisory responsibilities as the role grows.
• Governance and Compliance- ensuring philanthropic giving complies with all fundraising regulatory and legal obligations, including GDPR, The Fundraising Regulator and the Code of Fundraising Practice.
• Financial & Risk Management—Working with the Head of Development, the post holder is responsible for managing Trust and Foundation income and expenditures to meet an individual target.
• External Relations and Communications- working with the Head of Development and the Marketing & Communications Team, supporting corporate communications, public relations, and brand consistency in relation to Trust and Foundation giving. 

The Role 

The role of the team manager will be to support the rest of the team in delivering interventions on a one-to-one and group basis. The role will also involve triaging and assessing all clients accessing the service, signposting and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing. The role will also include line management and supervision of support workers within the service. Team managers are responsible for management of their site; including report writing, audits and being the named manager for the site. This role directly supports the service managers in keeping to a high standard service.

We have 2 positions available. One at Hammersmith & Fulham for a full time position, and one at Hounslow for a part time position. 

Job Purpose

This role sits within our crisis alternative service, Safe Space, which is an out of hours service providing a safe and welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed and experiencing crisis. The service operates 365 days a year from 12:00 (midday)-11:30pm across all of our boroughs. 

The objectives of the service include:

• To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental health crisis in HFEH.
• To provide support to clients accessing the service- for instance: signposting, de-escalation, planned wellbeing activities etc. 
• To contribute to an improvement in individual mental wellbeing.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• To treat service users with respect, dignity and personalised support
• To raise awareness of mental health services available with the goal to improve long term mental health and reduce social isolation
• To increase self-management skills of those accessing the service
• To reduce the use of police, ambulance and statutory mental health services whilst experiencing crisis.
• To reduce the use of statutory crisis services by people experiencing mental ill health without positive outcomes for the individual.

Based in Hackney, Islington and Newham, PBHA work with people who are homeless, have mental ill health, learning difficulties and multiple needs. The role:

The postholder will be vital in securing growth in our Enterprises, Training and Supported Housing services. They will create imaginative proposals and partnerships to attract funding for our Enterprises and Training team to access trusts, foundations and national funding programmes. They will develop local marketing and fundraising initiatives enabling us to create new ideas and enhance our work. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to develop new supported housing services, their role will be crucial to us achieving our Income Strategy and the goals of our next five-year Business Plan.

Key duties and responsibilities:

• Compile and upkeep a database of relevant opportunities on Zoho database so that we can accurately plan fundraising activity

• Evaluate opportunities with the CEO to ensure they meet organisational needs and that we achieve a high success rate

• Write and submit a range of well-researched and persuasive fundraising applications to trusts and other sources for support

• Lead on completion and submission of complex funding applications, involving other PBHA staff, notably the Enterprises and Training Manager.

• Build and nurture positive relationships to mutual benefit with trusts and foundations, promoting the impact of PBHA and how we may enable a trust to realise their mission

• Work in conjunction with the Director of Finance to create budgets and collate financial information fully supporting the delivery of proposed projects or activities

• Develop, in conjunction with a team of volunteers and the Information Project Manager, a range of mechanisms for maintaining and developing relationships with funders, including using Zoho, social media and events

• Work with managers and use Zoho to ensure accurate and on-time reporting to funders

• Work with project managers to ensure compliance with funding requirements of all future, existing and recently finished contracts and grants

• Assist the Director of Services in the coordination and completion of PQQ documentation and tender documentation in response to tender opportunities

• Identify and respond to opportunities for sponsorship support for PBHA’s activities

• Monitor performance in relation to fundraising and business development providing regular updates to the Senior Leadership Team

• Keep abreast of fundraising methods, trends and sources, communicating these internally

Customer Focused Services:

• Lead your volunteer team in promoting participation and co-production opportunities so that tenants/participants have maximum influence over the development of PBHA.

The Kingsland Hub site has one level and is accessible to wheelchair users.

The post holder is accountable to the Chief Executive Officer.

Main Conditions of Service:

This post is for 22.5 hours per week, 3 days per week, Monday – Friday, 7.5 hours per day with days to be negotiated on appointment. Duties will occasionally be carried out over evenings and some public holidays. Overtime is not paid but in line with Agile working, hours can be averaged out over a 2-week period.

Salaries and expenses are based on PBHA’s salary scales and are revised each year. The salary for this post will be in the range of £38,143 - £40,095 points 22 to 25 and the starting salary is £38,143 point 22, for the full-time hours.

In common with all posts at PBHA, confirmation of appointment is subject to a probationary period (6 months). The notice period for this role is 4 weeks.

• Knowledge of fundraising in the housing sector and / or knowledge of community organisations in Hackney, Islington and the surrounding areas

• Membership of the Institute of Fundraising
