Trustees

Bournemouth, Dorset (On-site)
Unpaid role, expenses not paid
Voluntary
Job description

We seek passionate individuals with experience of income generation, commercialism, environmental sustainability, or DEI to join our Board during an exciting period of strategic prioritisation and future planning.

Applications close at 9 a.m. Friday 5th July 2024.

Who we are.

The Students’ Union at Bournemouth University is an independent charity representing around 19,000 Bournemouth University students.

Our mission is to make the student experience as great as possible for every student. Every decision we make is guided by what students need from their university experience and the Students’ Union. We work in partnership with Bournemouth University to secure the highest quality learning experience, offer developmental opportunities for students to enhance their careers, and provide funding and venues for students to gather, make friends, and enrich themselves through clubs and societies.

About the role.

It is an exciting time to join the Board as the Union reaches a critical juncture. Following a period of internal change and review of policies, governance, and staff structure we are looking forward.

We are hiring a new CEO as the University welcomes new senior leadership and we are coming to the end of our ambitious 2021-2024 strategic plan. This means the Board will support our executive in building new positive stakeholder relationships, and has the scope to prioritise, review, and plan for the future.

Who we are looking for.

To complement the Board’s existing skills, we are looking for Trustees with experience in income generation, commerciality, DEI (diversity, equality, and inclusion), and environmental sustainability.

The time commitment is 6 - 7 engagements a year. This consists of 4 Board meetings a year, each lasting 2 hours, and attendance of one sub-committee.

We would like to encourage anyone who feels that they could bring something to our Board to apply and welcome first-time Trustees too. Every year we train and develop our Officers and approach the Board with the same ethos, providing training and guidance to help all Trustees succeed.

We are especially welcoming applications from candidates from Black, Asian, and other ethnic communities currently underrepresented in positions of leadership.
