Herts Disability Sports Foundation is where everyone (absolutely everyone!) is empowered to experience the joys of belonging, achieving and physical activity. Through our diverse activities, individuals become functionally fitter, but also develop self-esteem, confidence and life skills as they connect with and belong to a safe community of others like them. And we have a lot of fun!
We operate in Hertfordshire and are now being recognised across the county as a source of expertise for disability sport and physical activity - from our track record, the skills of our staff and our open commitment to ‘practise what we preach’ on a daily basis.
HDSF believes that quality of life can be improved through involvement in sports and physical activity opportunities - and that everyone should have access to these benefits. The Charity exists to provide support, education, training and the opportunity to take part in sporting activities for individuals who struggle to access sport and physical activity - to improve physical health and wellbeing.
Following our recent skills audit, the Board would like to appoint a Trustee with Human Resources skills and experience to challenge and support the Board and Senior Management Team. We plan to expand our services across the county over the coming years and are looking for a Trustee who will share their skills and enthusiasm to support and drive our strategy, as well as broadening the diversity of thinking on our Board. Above all, our Trustees should be passionate about what HDSF is striving to achieve.

Charitable Activities
We are a relatively small charity (CIO with 7 permanent staff) working to support adults and children in Hertfordshire to participate in recreational sporting activities, with a focus on those with physical and/or learning disabilities. We aim to provide and support opportunities in sports and physical activity that can be accessed by everyone, whether it be through participation, volunteering, coaching or education in a supportive and non-judgmental environment.
We offer a fully inclusive service across three key programme areas; Community activities, Bikes without Barriers and our hub for outdoor activities at Stanborough Park. Working with a diverse range of partners (including Day Services, special schools and community groups) and individuals, providing cycling opportunities for young people and adults, community fitness sessions in a variety of locations, weekly activity sessions at Stanborough for young people and adults (including watersports), and holidays session for children with physical or learning disabilities and their siblings. Our activities include cycling, boxercise, keep fit, paddleboarding, bell boating and much more – each activity is adapted to the needs of the individual without any assumptions about what they can and cannot do.
In addition, we work in partnership with a number of different agencies across Hertfordshire, including Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership, to provide training and advice on how to make physical activities accessible to all.
About the role of Trustee
HDSF Trustees meet face to face 5 times per year (usually in the Hatfield area); 4 Board meetings and one full day for teambuilding and strategic planning. We also have online meetings in the intervening months for training or a briefing on a specific topic. Trustees are also encouraged to visit HDSF activities at least once a year.
Salary: This is a voluntary role although HDSF will refund reasonable travel and subsistence expenses and all work-related expenses.
Hours:A minimum commitment of 4-8 hours per month.
HDSF Trustees serve for a three year term with the potential to serve for 2 terms at a maximum.
Role Purpose:
Trustees play an essential role in the governance of any charity, as they;
- approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation,
- oversee HDSF’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress,
- ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation,
- ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively,
- provide support and challenge to the Charity Director in the exercise of their delegated authority,
- keep abreast of changes in HDSF’s operating environment,
- attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions,
- use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect HDSF’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests,
- contribute to the broader promotion of HDSF’s objects, aims and reputation by applying skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts, and
- ensure the charity complies with its governing document, charity law and statutory requirements.
No previous experience of being a Trustee is required. All new Trustees are supported through an induction programme and are expected to complete specialist training covering the role and responsibilities of trustees as part of their induction, as well as a programme of ongoing training for all Trustees. Person Specification
We are currently looking for a Trustee with expertise and experience in Human Resources, as identified through our latest Trustee Skills Audit. In addition to the key skills for a Trustee (below), the ideal candidate would have a CIPD qualification as well as a number of years’ experience in a generalist role or across a number of HR specialisms.
The Trustee Board welcome all applications from people with relevant skills and experience and are particularly interested in receiving applications from those who have lived experience of disability (either personally or through their role as a parent/carer) and/or the sectors of our community which are often under-represented on charity boards.

ABOUT SPRINGBOARD
Springboard Youth Academy supports refugee and asylum-seeking young people who have recently arrived in the UK to help them succeed in the classroom and beyond. By combining participatory learning, life skills and holistic support into action-packed weekend, half-term and summer programming, we work to bridge the gap in support for young people left behind by the mainstream school system.
As educators and youth workers with years of experience working to offset the challenges these young people face, we launched a programme that helps young people develop their English language and self-advocacy skills whilst addressing their social and wellbeing needs, preparing them for mainstream education and helping them rebuild their lives in the UK.
We do this by providing interactive and engaging programming that combines English learning, life skills and practical and emotional strategies for young people on their journey to independence and adulthood.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a Chair to work with the Board of Trustees and Director to oversee Springboard's operations and strategic direction. We're looking for someone who thinks strategically and creatively, enjoys working collaboratively and wants to make a significant contribution to Springboard Youth Academy’s future, as well as the wider education and migration landscape.
We’re looking for people who share our love of high quality and participatory education, as well as our commitment to supporting and platforming displaced young people. We're keen to meet people who can bring skills, knowledge and both professional and lived experience that will help us continue to refine our delivery and grow.
We are committed to nurturing a board that is representative, inclusive, anti-racist and commited to actively challenging the hostile environment and violent border regimes across all its work. We are interested in hearing from individuals with experience in governance, as well as those new to Trustee positions. TIME COMMITMENT
In line with all charities, Trustees are unpaid volunteers. Trustees must be able to commit to attending quarterly Board meetings and making time to read paperwork in advance of Board meetings. As a small charity, our resources are limited and Trustees are also asked to actively contribute their skills in relevant areas. As a guideline, Trustees must be prepared to offer a minimum of two hours per month to the charity.
As Chair, you will be required to support with annual reporting to the charity commission, plan the agenda for board meetings and provide intermittent support to the Director. We also require new Trustees to spend one day on site during one of our programmes to get a feel for the work, as well as undertake Trustee and Safeguarding training, within the first three months of starting the role. Board meetings are currently held virtually, and, where possible, are arranged at least two months ahead. On occasion, Trustees will be required to respond by email or phone in relation to issues that arise outside of Board meetings. Travel costs will be covered if they are a barrier.

About the role
British Scouting Overseas wishes to appoint two trustees, to serve for an initial term of three years, starting in September 2025. Our trustee board provides collective leadership and oversight of the charity, and supports our volunteers who deliver our programme to young people around the world.
The Trustee Board’s role is to support our volunteer line managers, through the Area Lead Volunteer and Area Chair, so that they can be as successful as possible in their role of supporting leadership teams to deliver our programme.
You may be of any nationality and live in any part of the world – the only condition is that you are willing and able to carry out the duties of a trustee and to bring a constructive and independent-minded approach to the role. We are keen to include younger adults in the team.
About British Scouting Overseas (BSO)
BSO is a part of the UK Scout Association with headquarters in Gilwell Park, London. BSO members have access to the same resources, support and programme as UK based Scout groups. BSO exists to support British families living overseas in the provision of a UK Scouting programme to expatriate British children and to several British Overseas Territories.
We aim to ensure that all our members have the opportunity to feel and experience high quality UK Scouting whilst providing support and advice to adult members no matter where they are in the world. BSO undertakes Scouting activities in a safe and secure environment with flexibility to adapt to both local customs and guidelines set out within The Scout Association's policies and rules.
BSO operates 57 Scout Groups, 22 Explorer Units and 3 Scout Networks, with an impressive 2,997 young people supported by 936 adult volunteer leaders across 30 countries around the world.
Whilst most adult volunteer members are delivering programme activities with our young people, many volunteers are also based in the UK offering support, training, mentoring, governance and resources in a variety of different roles from trustee to marketing and event support to skills assessors.
BSO is fully inclusive and open to all who share our fundamental values. BSO exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.
The BSO Trustee Board
The Trustee Board’s role is to support our volunteer line managers, through the Area Lead Volunteer and Area Chair, so that they can do their role of supporting leadership teams to provide a great programme for young people.
The Trustee Board is responsible for supporting Scouting in BSO in the following areas:
- Following the rules of the organisation
- Insuring people, property and equipment
- Managing the money
- Fundraising, recruitment and any other support needed, so that Scouting can operate
- Providing Scouting safely
- Connecting Scouting with the local community and supporting it to grow
- Involving young people in decision making
- Meeting the requirements for the BSO Scout Council of the General Data Protection Regulation 2018 (GDPR)
- Making decisions about opening, closing and merging of sections and units at the BSO Scout Council level
- Appointment of new volunteers at the BSO Scout Council level
What experience do I need to be a BSO trustee?
You may be of any nationality and live in any part of the world – the only condition is that you are willing and able to carry out the duties of a trustee.
The main requirement is a commitment to Scout values and willingness to do the best you can to help the Board carry out their role. It’s a bonus if you can bring some personal skills or experience in a particular area, such as any of the following:
- Administration and meeting management
- Data protection - policy and practice
- Development planning in a voluntary group
- Finance and budgeting - oversight
- Governance
- Media and public affairs
- Risk management - policy and practice
- Safety - policy and practice
The role of trustee is a volunteer one, but reasonable authorised expenses may be claimed.
Trustees serve for three years terms, up to a maximum of nine years, after which they must stand down.
Trustees may only be appointed if they are not disqualified under UK law from being a trustee of a registered charity. Successful candidates will be required to sign a statement confirming that they are not disqualified.
There is some mandatory online training for our trustees.
The Board meets four times a year, plus the annual general meeting. There are additional ad hoc meetings from time to time. Meetings are held online via Microsoft Teams.

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative fundraising specialist individual with drive and passion that aligns with the purpose of The Iolanthe Midwifery Trust to join our Board of Trustees. Meetings:
The Board meets three times a year in March, June and October. All but 1 meeting (October combined AGM/Board meeting/Award event) are held remotely. Meetings generally last no longer than 2 hours and with the exception of the October meetings are held on a weekday evening.
The Finance sub committee meets remotely 3 times a year approximately 10 days ahead of the Board meetings.
The Fundraising sub committee will meet remotely and feed through to the main Board meetings.

Wokingham Pride is a small, grassroots Pride charity, and we are growing. We are here for support to the LGBTQ+ community in the Wokingham Borough area all year round, and run an annual, family-friendly event in Wokingham town centre. That event is free, and everyone who supports the aims of Pride is welcome. We have a particular aim of being accessible to people with a disability or are neurodiverse, and to younger members of the community, along with their families, obviously all within a LGBTQ+ focus.
We have grown Pride from very small beginnings in 2019, registered as a charity in 2024 and expect to run a slightly larger event in 2025, with a team of volunteers to spread the workload, and a well-governed organisation to support them.

The role and what we are looking for in a new trustee
Trustees are the people who make the top-level decisions for our charity.
Our Board includes people from the LGBTQ+ community, and we are looking for allies and supporters to join as new trustees, as well as more members of the LGBTQ+ community. All trustees must be trans-inclusive and have a strong empathy with our beneficiaries and our activities.
Although we’d welcome people without experience of charity or of trusteeship, we are also looking for those with some experience of charity Governance, in order to raise our understanding of, and performance as, a Registered Charity.
If you can think strategically and plan long-term, you have the primary skills needed by our trustees; you’ll need to be able to work collectively with other Board members.
We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We want to expand the diversity of our board, in all meanings of the word, and strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups.
The focus of a trustee is strategic, and trustees will not be expected to get directly involved in the organisation’s operations on a day-to-day basis; however, contact and liaison with our operational volunteers is expected.

About the role:
Been There is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join a small, supportive and dynamic team as a Trustee and Secretary of the board. Main Responsibilities:
● To liaise with the chair and chief executive to plan, arrange and produce agendas and supporting papers for trustee meetings and for drafting the subsequent minutes

The Board of Trustees is jointly responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the integrity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, and legal and regulatory guidelines.

We are specifically seeking one or more trustees with a good knowledge and experience of adult social care. As well as the normal duties of a trustee, you would take a specific interest in our adult care service provision – St Davids House (residential care), Jigsaw (day service) and our Supported Living service. You would scrutinise the quality and operation of our care services for adults and offer advice and challenge to our staff team as a member of our Adult Care Advisory Committee. You will liaise closely with the Director of Care and Support.
You may have been a senior manager in an adult care service or have been a commissioning manager within the NHS for people with complex care needs. You will have a passion for great person-centred care. Experience of CQC would be an advantage.
The Board meets seven times a year and is also invited to all events and celebrations which is optional. The Role:
The Martin James Foundation is currently seeking a new Chairperson. This is an exciting time for the Foundation as we continue to deliver on our new Strategy. We are looking for an individual who will contribute to guiding the charity on its mission to support children and families around the world.
For the Chairperson role, we are hoping to attract candidates with the following:
- Required - Experience in a leadership capacity within the i) children’s social care sector, ideally foster care and/or family support services, ii) and/or in the provision of global development,

TIME COMMITMENT
- The Trust Board meets four times per year and the ‘Finance, Audit and Premises’ committee meets termly alongside the ‘Curriculum and Standards’ Committee.
- Trustees are expected to attend the meetings of the Board and one committee. Whilst meetings may be on different days (to suit trustees’ availability) they will usually start at 5pm and last up to two hours. These meetings are always planned well in advance
- Link visits for specific areas of responsibility, such as safeguarding, will likely involve up to six hours per term.
- Overall, it is expected that trustees will need to devote around ten hours per month (on average) to Trust business. This will include reading documents ahead of meetings which can be done flexibly to suit individual requirements
