About us
Who we are
URBAN YOUTH is London’s response to the "postcode lottery." We are a high-octane, volunteer-powered collective delivering "pop-up" youth provision across the capital. We don’t do waiting lists, and we don’t do corporate fluff. We take over underused community spaces to provide immediate access to creativity, sport, and connection.
No red tape. No barriers. Just raw opportunity.
URBAN YOUTH is a London-powered movement delivering short-term, high-impact projects for the next generation. From street-side studios to pop-up tournaments, we provide the scaffolding; you build the future.
OUR VISION
To redefine urban youth provision by making creativity and community engagement as accessible as the local corner shop.
OUR MISSION
To empower London’s young people through agile, short-term opportunities that build skills, social capital, and confidence via a radical, volunteer-led model.
Our culture and values
OUR CORE VALUES
-
Radical Accessibility: Financial barriers are non-existent. If it’s not free or pocket-change, it’s not us.
-
Agility: We move at the speed of the street. No six-month lead times or bureaucratic lag.
-
High Contrast: Like our colours, our impact is clear. No grey areas in our commitment.
-
Authenticity: We speak the language of the city, not the jargon of the council.
OUR CULTURE
We operate with a "lean-startup" mentality. We value resourceful grit over polished perfection. We are mobile, minimal, and focused entirely on the young person in front of us.
We are the scaffolding, not the cage. We provide the structure for young people to build their own destiny.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
At URBAN YOUTH, we don’t just "value" diversity, it is our DNA. London is a mosaic of cultures, backgrounds, and identities, and our project is designed to reflect the city we serve. We recognise that for too many young Londoners, their identity, be it their race, gender, sexuality, or postcode, has been used as a barrier.
We are here to break those barriers down.
1. Beyond the Postcode
We acknowledge the "Postcode Lottery" as a systemic injustice. Our "Pop-Up" model is a direct response to this, ensuring that high-quality provision isn't reserved for those in affluent areas. We take the opportunities to the doorstep.
2. Radical Representation
We believe you cannot be what you cannot see. Our volunteer "Squad" is intentionally recruited to reflect the lived experiences of the young people we work with. We prioritise mentors who understand the nuances of urban life and the specific challenges faced by marginalised communities.
3. Economic Equity
Inclusion starts with price. By keeping our projects free or "pocket-change" low-cost, we ensure that the cost-of-living crisis never dictates a young person’s ability to create, compete, or connect.
4. Zero Grey Areas
Our commitment to safety and inclusion is absolute. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination, harassment, or prejudice in any form. Whether you are a volunteer or a participant, URBAN YOUTH is a "Safe Zone" where your authentic self is not just accepted, but celebrated.
5. Accessibility by Design
"Urban" does not mean "exclusive." We strive to ensure our pop-up locations are physically accessible and that our digital content is inclusive for neurodivergent individuals and those with additional needs.
The Urban Youth Pledge: "We don’t care where you’re from, who you love, or what’s in your bank account. If you have the drive, we have the space. We provide the scaffolding; you build the future. No exceptions."
