We work with people on low or no incomes, who could not afford to pay for a lawyer.

What will you be doing?
Islington Law Centre is a charity providing free legal advice and casework in specialist areas of social welfare law. We advise on housing, immigration, welfare rights, education and debt and run an out-of-hours clinic for limited civil litigation matters for people who cannot afford a lawyer.
Time Commitment:
- Mostly outside office hours, mainly at home
- Estimate of time needed: 0-5 hours / month
- We have 6 Trustee meetings per year.

Overview
Esteem works with young adults aged 14 - 26 to build lasting self-Esteem and stronger communities through group activities and 1-2-1 support.
Esteem creates spaces where everyone matters.
Esteem works with 200 young adults annually across all of Sussex who face barriers to achieving their life goals. We have a base in Shoreham and offer a variety of different opportunities, including social drop-in sessions, mentoring, wellbeing sessions, volunteering and counselling. We have a dedicated staff team with various backgrounds and a commitment to championing the views of young adults throughout the organisation.
This is an exciting opportunity to volunteer for a charity that is passionate about giving young adults the chance to develop their skills and confidence, both for their own benefit and for that of society as a whole. Esteem works with young adults to run Wellbeing, Social, Mentoring and Volunteering opportunities, with a youth-led and asset-based approach.
This voluntary role of Trustee & Secretary will include duties such as organising and minuting board meetings and some administrative duties to support the board. As well as the normal duties of a trustee (see The Essential Trustee Duties) The main aim is for the Trustee Secretary to support the Chair and the CO in ensuring the smooth functioning of the board of trustees. This would also compliment other areas we seek to enhance the trustee team, which include a wide range of skills, and expertise in youth work, strategy planning, business development, financial administration and fundraising, as well as an interest in vocational and personal development for young people, combined with an in-depth understanding of our work and ambitions.
You will be jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. All trustees should also be aware of, and understand, their individual and collective responsibilities, and should not be overly reliant on one or more individual trustees in any particular aspect of the governance of the charity.
During Trustee meetings, your role would be to take minutes and record actions. Following each meeting, you would write up the minutes, share with the Board, as well as support the Chair and CO to plan for the next meeting.
Individuals are sought who have a strong empathy with Esteem’s goal of enabling young adults to flourish. The Esteem Secretary will be expected to contribute around 6 hours per month to the organisation, including board meetings, which run for two hours every two months, from 6-8pm at The Old School House, Shoreham. A minimum commitment of two years would be preferable. This post requires some flexibility due to the nature of Esteem being a growing organisation.
Your regular tasks and responsibilities will include:

Attend Board meetings on Tuesday evenings eveyy 8 weeks at Esteem, from 6-8pm

Read meeting minutes and pre-reading documents ahead of meeting (sent at least 1 week before the meeting)

Contribute to all aspects of Esteems Strategy and maintain oversight of the organisation

Who we are
Theatre Troupe is a theatre-arts organisation that works with young people, who have experienced trauma, and have mental health problems as a result. We work with children and families who have been marginalised, to demonstrate the power theatre has in changing lives. When children join us, they become a member of a “troupe”, a theatre family that works together through performance arts, to produce a show. Our method has been honed through research based on attachment theory and attunement.

Board of Trustees v. Strategic Advisory Panel
We currently have two areas of need.
The first is to grow and strengthen our BOARD with people who have the experience mentioned above and are happy to commit to a 2 Year Period (although ideally this would be 3 years). As well as a commitment to governance, we are keen to engage people who are happy to lead, lend vision and strategy and work towards a relaunch in 2025.
The Strategic Advisory Panel is for people who might not want to fully commit to a board post, but can offer skills, experience and vision directly related to a relaunch. We ask for a shorter commitment of one year.
Most meetings will take place via Zoom, although there may occasionally be in-person meetings where required.
Our trustees play a vital role in achieving the Strata Florida Trust’s core aim – the restoration of the buildings of Mynachlog Fawr to create the Strata Florida Centre/Canolfan Ystrad Fflur as a place of heritage, culture and education. They oversee and steer the vision, strategy and progress of the Trust, drawing on their own knowledge, skills and networks.
As a small but ambitious charity we are seeking individuals for the role whose experience and skills will complement those of our existing board members and enable the Trust to continue to expand.
Remuneration: The role of Trustee is not accompanied by any financial remuneration.
Time commitment: Six Board meetings per year. Approximately 12 days in total including board meetings, and additional meetings, discussion and preparation.
Reporting to Chairman of the Trustees
Duties:
· Support and provide advice on the Strata Florida Trust’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
· Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
· Oversee the Trust’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
· Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
· Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
· Review and approve the Strata Florida Trust’s annual financial reports.
· Work with and support or challenge the Director of the Trust when needed.
· Contribute to regular reviews of the Trust’s own governance.
· Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
· Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect the Trust’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.
· Contribute to the broader promotion of the Trust’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge and contacts.
As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.
What we are looking for
We are looking for people willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.
An interest in supporting heritage, Welsh culture, education, tourism, rural communities, and traditional skills is essential. We are particularly interested in those who have experience of operational delivery and professional skills including accountancy and income generation.
Previous governance experience would be an advantage but is not essential.

· Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as trustees and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
· Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.

Terms of appointment
Terms of office
· Trustees are appointed for a 4 year term of office, renewal for 3 further terms to a maximum of 12 years.
· This is a voluntary unpaid position.
Time commitment
· Attending 6 Board meetings annually (bimonthly beginning in January). Currently meetings are held at Y Beudy, Strata Florida, with the option to join via Zoom if required.
· Attending additional meetings or focus groups if required.

A voluntary role to take a strategic lead within the Board of Trustees in the support of fundraising at the
Harlequins Foundation.
The Fundraising Trustee will support the Foundation team to ensure that fundraising initiatives are of the
highest standard, that all fundraising activity is compliant with the Fundraising Regulator and relevant
charity law and will assist in developing opportunities which will have the greatest impact in the sector.
About you
You will ideally have experience in fundraising/income generation and will have held senior management
positions, although this is not essential to the role. We would also value experience in some of the
following areas where the Foundation has identified a need for support:
- Grants and Trusts fundraising
- Code of fundraising and best practice in fundraising
- Social investment
- Community fundraising
- Events fundraising
With an ability to hold fundraisers to account and to ask the right questions about strategy and
implementation, you will have an understanding of the UK charity sector, good governance, relevant
legislations, and statutory requirements.
The ideal person for this role will possess an understanding of fundraising practices and the most effective
ways of using these to maximise income, with excellent networking ability, influencing and communication
skills and be well connected in London and the South-East.
How you can make a difference to our work
In addition to the general responsibilities of our Trustee’s your role may include supporting in some of the
following areas:
- Providing guidance and support on the ongoing development and implementation of the Harlequins Foundation’s fundraising strategy and providing support to recognise new opportunities in the sector
- Contributing knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies, understanding results and approving budgets
- Monitoring the fundraising progress and constructively challenging the Head of Foundation and the Board by asking the right questions about the fundraising strategy and its implementation
- Monitoring the Harlequins Foundation’s fundraising activity ensuring that it is carried out effectively and lawfully
- Mentoring and supporting the Harlequins Foundation’s Head of Fundraising & Engagement and their team when required
- Being the fundraising champion on the Board of Trustees and being an active spokesperson for the Harlequins Foundation in networking to solicit funds and in contributing at key donor presentations when required
- Assisting with the development and amplification of our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion work
- The list is indicative, and adaptable to the skillset and commitment of the appointed person
Commitment required
The fulfilment of these duties is expected to take around one to two days a month that all trustees are
asked to give as part of their roles.
This is inclusive of attendance at a minimum of four Trustee Board meetings a year. The quarterly Trustee
Board meetings are usually in person at the Twickenham Stoop, and last for 2 hours.
Tenure
The Lead Trustee for Fundraising must be an active Trustee and is elected for a period of two years, after
which they may seek re-election.
Remuneration
The role is an unremunerated voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be met. Per the articles of
association, liability of trustees is limited to £1, and the Harlequins Foundation is covered by appropriate
insurance.

Responsibilities
Chairperson Responsibilities:
- chair trustee meetings so that the board functions effectively and carries out its duties
- ensure the board sets an overall direction for the foodbank with clear objectives
- ensure that the business of meetings is dealt with and decisions are recorded and implemented
- in consultation with the rest of the board, to recruit board members with relevant expertise and experience when required
- to ensure that there is appropriate line management in place to manage the foodbank Manager.
Ensure an effective relationship between staff, volunteers, and stakeholders:
- to plan with the foodbank Manager an annual schedule of any subcommittee/steering group meetings and other key events which board members should attend
- to work alongside the foodbank Manager to ensure there is appropriate communication between the trustee board and staff, volunteers, and any other stakeholders.
Other responsibilities, along with the board of trustees, include:
- to approve, support and guide the charity’s purpose, vision, strategy, goals and objectives
- to manage the charity’s resources responsibly, ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, ensure the charity does not become over-committed, and ensure that key risks are identified, monitored and controlled appropriately
- to ensure the effective and efficient administration of the charity, responding to changes in the local community as appropriate
- to ensure appropriate financial plans are in place, budgets are monitored, financial statements are reviewed, and progress is evaluated
- to help promote the foodbank to a wider audience of potential funders and in the community to both donors and beneficiaries
- to ensure the charity has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding and GDPR compliance/data protection
- to prepare for and regularly attend and participate in board and subcommittee meetings and any trustee away days.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people who want to help their local community and work towards the eradication of food poverty whilst supporting the food bank to continue to provide emergency food to people who find themselves in crisis. Our ideal candidates would demonstrate:

Emmaus Gloucestershire supports formerly homeless people by giving them a home, meaningful work in a social enterprise and an opportunity to get themselves back on their feet again.
For many people who experience homelessness, one of the biggest obstacles they must overcome is a loss of self-esteem. Emmaus provides an opportunity to regain this, with a chance to make a real contribution to their community.
Emmaus communities are not hostels for the homeless; they provide a home for as long as someone needs it. For many, this support and stability is like the family they don’t have, providing a safe environment in which to settle and re-build their lives. Often this is an opportunity to overcome issues such as addiction, get support with mental health issues or rebuild relationships with estranged family.
Like all charities, Emmaus Gloucestershire relies on a diverse group of people to become trustees and deliver good governance.
We aim to maintain a board of trustees which has people with individual expertise in leadership, organisation development, housing, marketing, fundraising, health and safety, legal and finance.
Alongside the usual duties of a trustee – including giving long term strategic direction to the charity, setting overall policy, ensuring effective and efficient administration and financial stability – Emmaus Gloucestershire’s trustees are expected to play a role in the life of the Emmaus Gloucestershire community.
It’s a unique community of people, with a shared goal in delivering financial sustainability and success for and with our companions. Trustees are encouraged to visit and maintain regular contact with the community, and where possible, spend time working alongside companions and join companions, staff, and volunteers for lunch.
The Emmaus Gloucestershire Board of Trustees meet quarterly in the evening, from 6.30pm, allowing those trustees who work during the day to participate and attend meetings. There are also occasional away days and potential opportunities to represent the community on a local, national, and international level.
This is an unsalaried volunteer role; however, we can pay travel expenses if required.

As our Trustee on the Board of Trustees, you will be responsible for;
- Support and provide advice on Urban Youth’s purpose, vision, goals, and activities.
- Lead on and approve operational strategies and policies, and to monitor and evaluate the progress.
- Ensure the effective administration of the organisation.
- Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored, and controlled effectively.

The Role

Key Tasks
Trustees ensure that the foodbank acts in accordance with its purpose and with charity legislation, and that good governance, best practice policies and rigorous financial supervision are in place. They are required to work collaboratively, with other trustees and with the staff and volunteers of the foodbank, and other external agencies.

Overview
Esteem works with young adults aged 14 - 26 to build lasting self-Esteem and stronger communities through group activities and 1-2-1 support.
Esteem creates spaces where everyone matters.
Esteem works with over 200 young adults annually across all of Sussex who face barriers to achieving their life goals. We have a base in Shoreham and offer a variety of different opportunities, including social drop-in sessions, mentoring, wellbeing sessions, volunteering and counselling. We have a dedicated staff team with various backgrounds and a commitment to championing the views of young adults throughout the organisation.
This is an exciting opportunity to volunteer for a charity that is passionate about giving young adults the chance to develop their skills and confidence, both for their own benefit and for that of society as a whole. Esteem works with young adults to run Wellbeing, Social, Mentoring and Volunteering opportunities, with a youth-led and asset-based approach.
This voluntary role of Trustee Safeguarding Lead is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the effective implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures within Esteem. The role requires a commitment to protecting the welfare of all beneficiaries, volunteers, and staff, ensuring that the organisation meets its legal and moral obligations to safeguard vulnerable individuals.
As part of the Board of Trustees you will be jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. The Trustee Safeguarding Lead will be expected to contribute around 6 hours per month to the organisation, including board meetings, which run for two hours every two months, from 6-8pm at The Old School House, Shoreham. A minimum commitment of two years would be preferable. This post requires some flexibility due to the nature of Esteem being a growing organisation.

What is the time commitment?
• The charity holds four full board meetings per year in Nottingham, with each meeting lasting around 2.5 hours. Meetings take place quarterly on the third Thursday of October, January, April and July. In addition, Trustees need to set aside a minimum of 2 hours reading time before each board meeting.
. The AGM follows the board meeting on the third Thursday of October, with the meeting lasting around 1.5 hours. In addition, a minimum of 1 hour reading time is required prior to the AGM.
• There may be specific occasions when a Trustee is required to attend an event to open/close it, for example a staff conference
• Get to know the charity’s services and infrastructure within the first 3 years/initial tenure of the post and continue to have contact with relevant departments during subsequent 3-year tenures. Feedback on service/infrastructure visits is a standard Board agenda item.
. The charity board also has a Finance & Audit Committee which has its own Terms of Reference and has meetings separate from the Full Board Meetings. The membership of this committee is determined by the Board
• Trustees serve a three-year term of office and can be re-elected to serve additional three-year terms
What training will you be given?
You will be given a basic induction to the Charity and an opportunity to spend some time with the Senior Leadership Team and other key members of staff. There will also be a full suite of training on offer to help you develop in your role.
