About The Roots Foundation Wales
We are an award-winning charity supporting children and young people in care, kinship care, those transitioning to independent living, and care leavers. We also provide support for foster and kinship carers.
In 2017, we featured on a BBC1 DIY SOS & Children in Need special, which resulted in our beautiful centre with three semi-independent living flats attached. Our bespoke and holistic Transition to Independent Living programme helps young people aged 16-19 gain essential independent living skills as they prepare to leave care.
Our dedicated team of youth workers, night staff, and volunteers run a variety of activities and clubs for young people aged 4-25, including coffee mornings for carers, playgroups for young parents, and activity groups ranging from crafts and cookery to youth clubs and movie nights.

About You

Your Main Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Management: Build strong working relationships, providing leadership and management for the staff team of 12 plus volunteers.
- Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day management and running of the Centre.
- Service Delivery: Ensure high-quality activities and programmes are provided, seeking and acting on feedback from service users.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Raise awareness of our work and build our profile with key local and national stakeholders.
- Accommodation Oversight: Manage the development and running of the semi-independent living accommodation.
- Reporting to Funders: Manage robust monitoring and evaluation processes for timely reporting to funders and commissioning bodies.
- Fundraising: Support the Board of Trustees to secure new funding avenues in line with the charity’s objectives.
- Safeguarding: Be the main point of contact for safeguarding concerns and ensure processes are followed.
Due to the nature of the role, flexibility is required. The Centre is staffed on a 24-hour basis, and you will support safeguarding issues that occur outside of working hours (on a rota basis). Out of hours work may be necessary to meet the charity’s needs.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
- Experience in operations management and/or strategic leadership, ideally within a health and social care, childcare, or education setting.
- Proven leadership and people management skills.
- Highly numerate with a successful track record in managing budgets and delivering value for money.
- Excellent IT skills with the ability to learn and use new software and packages.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience managing safeguarding and an understanding of Wales Safeguarding Procedures.
- Experience working with our beneficiary group, including children in mainstream care, secure residential settings, kinship care, Special Guardianship care, and foster carers.
- Experience with stakeholder engagement and/or public speaking.
- Service development and management of commissioned services experience.
- A recognised qualification in management and leadership or programme/project management.
- Experience working in the charity sector with a good understanding of governance requirements and the challenges in the sector, particularly in Wales.
- Experience in applying for and securing funding at national, regional, or local levels.
- Understanding and experience of implementing a trauma-informed approach.

My Life TV is carefully put together with a wide range of content to enable people living with dementia to feel stimulated and connected to the world, improving their mental health and supporting their essential care. About the Role
This is a hugely exciting opportunity for an experienced and confident interim CEO to come into the organisation and lead it during this important transition period, which is where we are shifting our model from in-house sales and marketing to a partner-led approach. We believe this will be the best way to reach and deliver benefits to people affected by dementia. This role will secure this partnership and develop a new strategy for My Life Film's next chapter.
Our current Executive Director is moving on for family reasons, having stewarded the charity and led the development and expansion of My Life TV over the past two years. She will remain available part-time with My Life Films for a short handover period.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Interim ED will be responsible for all aspects of the charity's work and will be passionate about our work supporting people with dementia, entrepreneurial and collaborative, with commercial Business Development, Partnerships, and experience of charity mergers would be beneficial (but is not essential) as we have an experienced Board who will be on hand to support you.
As leader of the My Life Films team, you will also work across governance, finance, income generation, and impact. You will be responsible for delivering My Life Films' immediate strategy and working with the Board of Trustees.
About You
- Progress strategic partnership discussions for My Life TV with existing partners and identified potential partners to move to a wholesale or reseller model for My Life TV, or potentially acquisition of the service by another charity, company or care organisation
- Develop financial and operational models for potential partnerships, including scenario planning and P&L analysis, involving content, tech, marketing, and charitable impact. Lead negotiations, bringing in commercial, accounting, or legal support as needed.
- Work with the Board to create a strategic plan for My Life TV and new dementia-focused services, aligning with the charity's mission.
- Oversee daily operations, including finance, income generation, content production, partnerships, and reporting.
- Secure necessary funding through trusts, foundations, care groups, and events, representing My Life Films to stakeholders.
- Cultivate a positive environment, recruit and restructure as needed and provide coaching to enhance team performance.

About the Role:
As the Trusts & Foundations Manager you will be responsible for generating income from grant making trusts and foundations.
You will take the lead on seeking out new prospects and nurturing existing relationships to significantly grow income. You will achieve this by researching sources of funding, devising individually tailored applications, maintaining excellent communications with existing and potential donor trusts and foundations, delivering an agreed income target as well as growing funding from these sources.
We are happy to consider people who want to work full-time (35 hours), or four days per week (28 hours).
Here's a summary of your key responsibilities:
- Proactively identify and research new and pipeline trust, lottery and statutory fundraising opportunities and progress them to application stage.
- Developing the trust and foundation pipeline to generate new income and multiyear grants
- To lead the development of new fundraising proposals for priority fundraising projects, including potential research partnership opportunities where MQ collaborates on a joint bid with another institution
- To carry out targeted and systematic research to establish new high value prospects utilising existing networks, the MQ database, search engines and referrals
- Build long-term relationships with new and prospect trust, lottery and statutory donors, including through meetings, attendance at conferences and events, regular update
- calls/comms and – when possible – direct face-to-face engagement.
- Report on performance against agreed budgets and targets
- Capitalise on the expertise and networks of MQ’s senior volunteers, including working closely with MQ Trustees and other Development Team colleagues to maximise existing opportunities for introductions, including the Lord Mayor’s Appeal
About You:
This role is for you if you are an experienced trusts and foundations fundraiser, with good knowledge of the sector. You'll have demonstrable experience of securing five and six figure grants to achieve annual income targets, both through stewarding existing supporters and through researching and cultivating a pipeline of new opportunities.
You will also be skilled in understanding and translating complex information and turning it in to compelling written proposals, for grants, corporate partnerships and major donors.
We do require someone who is proactive, hardworking and results-orientated.
Essential role requirements include:
- Experience of trusts and foundation fundraising and able to demonstrate continual growth in expertise and results in this area.
- Good understanding of the trusts and foundations fundraising environment and associated processes and different types of grant making bodies.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write concise and inspiring funding applications and to make presentations.
- Creative thinker, with ability to identify funding opportunities and match them with the right trusts.
- Good interpersonal, influencing and relationship-management skills, at all levels.
- Ability to work as part of a team and spot opportunities to grow and develop relationships for the good of the organisation.
You will be driven to ensure that projects are delivered to the highest possible standards and be a sophisticated communicator with the confidence to build relationships with and inspire colleagues and donors.

As Fundraising Manager, you will be responsible for growing the charitable income across all streams (grants, foundations, corporate sponsors), maximising members program, establishing a sound data base for fundraising and establishing a volunteer fundraising committee. You will develop and execute a fundraising plan and develop strong relationships with prospective and existing funders. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join the BFYC team to support young carers in West Oxfordshire.
Working closely with the youth work team, you will help to provide support and advice to young carers by devising, developing, implementing and managing a programme of social activities for young carers (this could include trips, training, emotional 121 support and other activities).
