As Purposeful Ventures' Evaluation Manager you will work in a newly forming evaluation team, as part of a larger experienced and growing organisation, alongside inspirational charities and social enterprises to successfully grow and deliver systemic change.
Purposeful Ventures is currently developing a framework to better understand our impact as an organisation and our approach to monitoring and evaluation for our projects and portfolio organisations. This evaluation work is intended to allow us and the organisations we work with to learn, and to support internal accountability and decision-making.
You will have a crucial role in implementing our developing approaches to monitoring and evaluation to better understand and learn about our impact as an organisation and supporting our portfolio organisations to better understand and maximise the difference they make for young people. You will work closely with both internal and external colleagues, using your technical evaluation skills to provide evaluation support to our portfolio organisations, aligned with sector standards and programme maturity, to inform programme design, delivery and communication of impact.
Successful candidates will have demonstrable experience and success in evaluation roles. This may include research roles in a research agency or other settings designing and delivering robust evaluations for funders or the charitable sector.

About the role
We are looking for a passionate and skilled Trusts & Foundations specialist to expand EngineeringUK’s relationships in this field and develop grant-funding as a core income stream for our work. We receive significant funding from grant funders already but are looking to scale this income stream. This gives the successful candidate the opportunity to have an early impact and have influence over the direction of our strategy for grant-funding.
Whilst this is currently the sole role focusing on this area, you would be supported by the Director of Business Development & Partnerships and the Chief Executive, both of whom have experience in this type of fundraising. Senior level engagement and support means we can be flexible to the level of experience of the successful candidate, making this role a great opportunity for an experienced Manager wanting to take ownership of a strategy, or for a Specialist looking to take their next step and develop their strategic skills.
The Trusts & Foundations Manager role will be part of the Business & Industry team (11 people), who have responsibility for all funding and industry relationships across EngineeringUK. The team works strategically with stakeholders across the engineering, technology and education sectors, to support our mission to increase the number and diversity of young people choosing engineering and technology careers. Opportunities for funding include our bursary programme, in-school programmes such as EnergyQuest and Climate Schools, Big Bang Programme, supporting our community of Code signatories, and developing new programmes.
Once funding is secured, the postholder will account manage the relationship and see the project through to contract-end. Therefore, in addition to being able to secure new funding, interest in and experience of delivering excellent account management is essential.
Whilst the core focus of the role will be on developing relationships with trusts & foundations, there may also be some opportunities to explore key relationships we hold in government, particularly for some larger projects we have on the horizon.
The role is London based at our office at 10 Lower Thames Street, London EC3R 6EN and may involve some travel in the UK. We believe that hybrid working has many benefits and are pleased to offer flexible working with a baseline of 2 days (or 40%) a week in our vibrant central London office overlooking the Thames. Essential Skills / Competencies
- Experience of identifying, securing and delivering grant-funding from trusts, foundations and/or government.
- Good understanding of the grant-giving environment, with the ability to quickly identify the spaces and conversations your organisation should be engaging in.
- Experience of building and prioritising a pipeline.
- Confidence securing introductions to new people and organisations in-person, virtually, and through written correspondence.
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to condense detailed information and present it in a compelling and persuasive way for a variety of audiences.
- Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to quickly build rapport, understand, and respond to the needs of both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong record keeping, with experience of using a CRM for maintaining records and reporting.
- Ability to understand and present financial information for a funder.
- Ability to make decisions quickly and aptly with minimal supervision, whilst consulting as widely as appropriate when the situation warrants it and/or in line with organisational ways of working.

We’re looking to recruit a skilled and strategic Trusts and Foundations Manager who is passionate about weaving stories and stats together in a way that inspires funders to support 24-7 Prayer. You’ll be someone who loves building genuine relationships with funders, can seek out new opportunities, manage numerous existing relationships to a high standard, and write compelling applications.
In this role, you’ll bring experience in Trusts and Foundations fundraising. You’ll have effective and excellent written and verbal communication skills with a knack for making funders feel truly connected to our movement. In this pivotal role, the new Trusts and Foundations Manager will focus on securing gifts through applications to trusts, foundations, livery companies and statutory funders.
Primarily responsible for the management of an existing pipeline of a diverse pool of trusts and foundations, both existing and prospective, you will maximise philanthropic support for St Martin-in-the-Fields and its Trust. You will have:

About Rockinghorse Children’s Charity
Rockinghorse Children’s Charity supports sick and disabled children across Sussex. We support babies, children and young people, along with their families, at The Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and The Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and all of the specialist children’s wards and baby units throughout Sussex.
We deliver and fund projects that enable doctors and nurses to do more. All of projects are led by the needs of children and young people and their families – the lifesaving medical equipment, the support for parents and families, the toys for children spending time in hospitals across Sussex, the environments and spaces that help children feel more at home when they are in hospital and additional staff to make sure children get the best possible care when they are unwell.
Originally set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann, we have been supporting children for more than 55 years, and in that time, we have supported nearly a million children and their families. As the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, including the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, we work with the NHS, charity partners and the Sussex community to ensure children can be children no matter now sick they are.
We do not receive any government, statutory or local authority funding and so we rely on the generous support of individuals, community groups, companies and trusts: people like you, who care about children and want Sussex to be a safe place for children to grow up.
About the role
In 2022 we launched our three-year strategic plan, which prioritised our activities to enable us to support more babies, children and teenagers. As we enter the final year of this strategy the charity continues to expand and develop its projects and services children all over Sussex.
This role will support the Head of Philanthropy in securing income in line with targets and developing relationships with Trust and Major Donor supporters, to ensure we can continue to deliver life-saving projects for children and young people across Sussex.
You’ll bring excellent organisational skills, outstanding written and verbal communication skills, evidence of brilliant relationship management skills and a passion and enthusiasm for fundraising. You’ll be part of a successful fundraising team that values wellbeing and champions teamwork, where our vision for children and young people is shared, and success is celebrated.
Duties of the role
Supporting the charity to secure income from Trusts, Foundations and Major Donors:
Research
· Undertake regular research on Trust and Major Donors prospects and donors to identify trusts and individuals with propensity to give donations of £2,000 and above and with a fit to our aims and objectives and to deepen our understanding of interests and objectives.
· Work with the rest of the team and with Rockinghorse Trustees to ensure there is a system for new Trusts and potential Major Donors to be flagged to us.
· Keeping Trust and Major Donor pipeline information updated regularly on e-tapestry (fundraising database).
Engage
· Develop bespoke action plans for an agreed number of Trust and Major Donor prospects and supporters to help us engage, cultivate and solicit donations.
· Work with the Head of Development and Philanthropy to design and deliver bespoke cultivation events and experiences.
· Assist the Head of Development and Philanthropy with developing introductions into Trustee networks, based on network mapping exercises already conducted.
Cultivation
· Work with the Head of Development and Philanthropy to manage our relationship with an agreed number of Major Donor prospects to help us grow our supporter base.
· In collaboration with the Head of Development and Philanthropy, develop a stewardship programme for an agreed number of warm trust supporters, ensuing regular and inspiring feedback and updates on our work, which connect supporters to the difference they make.
· Plan and attend bespoke project visits with prospects and donors.
· Create bespoke feedback reports and updates.
· Plan and manage an annual supporter thank you event for Rockinghorse supporters across all teams.
Ask
· Work with the Head of Development and Philanthropy to make an agreed number of Trust applications to warm and cold trust prospects throughout the year.
· Work with Head of Development and Philanthropy and the Chief Executive Officer to make financial asks of our prospective Major Donor supporters based on the right project, at the right time.
· Create and develop compelling cases for support based on our projects.
Supporting the charity to deliver brilliant, funded projects that support children and their families:
Rockinghorse delivers and funds around 70 projects per year – supporting sick and disabled babies, children, young people and their families in hospitals in Sussex.
· Work with Head of Development and Philanthropy to ensure we have enough projects that fit the Trusts and Major Donor prospects in our pipeline.
· Work with Head of Development and Philanthropy to design and develop innovative new projects to support asks to our Major Donor supporters.
· Work with Projects Manager and project leads to ensure everyone is aware of the level of feedback and evaluation required for projects funded by Trust and Major Donor supporters and to ensure that we receive regular updates from project leads.
· Work with the Head of Marketing and Communications and project leads to build up a bank of case studies, quotes and stories we can use to feed back to donors.
Support the operations of the charity more widely:
· Model excellent conduct and behaviours in line with the charity’s values and ethos.
· Carry out other such duties as may be required for the purposes of the charity; this will include working during evenings and weekends as required and the postholder would be expected to work flexibly to do so.
· There are travel requirements for this post (covering the whole of Sussex) to attend, put on events and meet with our supporters.

Working closely with the Business Development Director and Business Development Manager the Fundraising Manager will play a pivotal role in the creation, development and implementation of a robust and diverse fundraising strategy that contributes to the overarching income generation strategy, that meet both current and future operational needs.

Communications and Development Team
The Development Team sits within a wider Communications and Development Team, which consists of four members of staff at different levels, who work across a range of activities. The wider Team has two dedicated staff members currently focused on donor relationship management and fundraising, and two on communications.
The Development function is responsible for management of Conciliation Resources’ strategic funders, the generation of unrestricted income and providing fundraising support to the wider organisation. The majority of funding currently comes from government grants and this will remain a key focus, with some time also spent on reacting to opportunities for new funding streams which present themselves – such as trusts and foundations, and to a lesser extent, high-value individual donors and corporations.

Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to help generate funding for CR as an organisation, and its component teams. The job-holder will need to work with the Head of Development to support the development of existing and new unrestricted funding relationships, collaborate with staff in other teams to help achieve more restricted income, and at all times champion good organisational communication and information management around funding and donors.
