The role and your key responsibilities
As Marketing Lead, you’ll head up the marketing to our UK and international school audiences - from building compelling email campaigns to crafting engaging slide decks. UK and international schools are our two biggest audiences, and you’ll play a key role in driving their continued growth, helping us to support as many students as possible to make informed decisions about their next steps.
Your key responsibilities:

Marketing strategy and planning

Work with the Head of Marketing to set the marketing strategy for our UK and international school audiences, including understanding our customer personas, setting objectives, and identifying priorities for the year.

Execute the strategy and lead on the creation and delivery of all comms to these two key audiences.

Plan, write, and send compelling email campaigns, tailored to our different school audiences across the world.
- Work with the Content team to plan content for our teacher, parent and student-facing newsletters, and proof-read drafts.
- Use data to conduct regular ‘test and learns’ to maximise engagement with email campaigns.

Events

Work with our Events team to effectively market our school-facing events, including in-person teacher conferences, webinars, and virtual university and careers fairs for students.

Create and send promotional comms, and support the Events team to write engaging event descriptions, conversion, and follow-up emails.

Provide on-the-day support to the Events team for bigger events, such as our in-person teacher conferences.

- Grow, create engaging content for, and spark conversations in our private UK teacher and international counselor Facebook groups.

Design

Write effective briefs and work with our in-house Graphic Designer to create impactful marketing collateral to use across digital channels and at in-person events.
- Create your own graphic design projects, based on templates, such as event agendas and slide decks for the UK and International schools teams to present at conferences.

Working together
You’ll be working as part of a small marketing team, alongside our: Head of Marketing (your line manager), Marketing Lead for HE and Employers, Events Manager, Events Leads, and Events Assistant. You’ll also be working closely with our Content team, as well as our UK and International school partnerships teams.

The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used, but we believe that developing countries should be empowered to conduct their own research and to play a central role in SRM discussions. The initiative has been working in different forms for over a decade and our work receives worldwide coverage and widespread acclaim.
Degrees’ programmatic work builds capacity through research grants, workshops, and community-building—all across the Global South. The initiative has been steadily growing since becoming a charity, and we plan on continuing to expand. Over the next few years, Degrees will offer grants to research teams in new countries and disciplines, support the scientists as they develop into regional leaders, and keep building a global community of experts.
The Staff Scientist position offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to move into or advance in the nonprofit sector while helping scale-up the organisation’s work. They will get to work with some the world’s leading SRM experts both inside and outside of Degrees and play a central role in building an initiative that is changing the field of SRM.
Job purpose
The Degrees Modelling Fund was launched in 2018 and has grown into the largest SRM research programme in the world. It supports almost 150 scientists across the Global South as they model how SRM could affect the climate in their regions, and they are becoming influential leaders in the SRM conversation.
This is a good start, but our plans are much more ambitious. We now want to support the Southern teams to move to the next level in their development. National projects will evolve into regional research programmes—in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, for instance. These regional programmes will inform policy processes by writing reports and policy briefs. Centralised downscaling and bias correction will reduce the barriers to SRM research across the Global South, allowing more countries to do their own SRM research and increasing existing teams’ output.
Degrees’ new Staff Scientist will be central to this. As an expert in climate impacts modelling, they will help the teams develop regional research projects. They will support Southern scientists to get access to the data that they need, will advise Degrees on how we can best support Southern SRM research, and develop new work streams as needed. In all of this, the Staff Scientist will work closely with the 26 modelling teams that Degrees supports across the Global South, plus our range of partners and volunteer research collaborators. In this, their work will be central to the next stage of Degrees’ development, helping to ensure that developing countries have the evidence and expertise to evaluate SRM and to play a central role in research and discussions.
About the position
The position will appeal to someone with a strong academic track record who is looking to use their skills and training outside of academia—for an organisation that is looking to use research to change the world, rather than just for research’s sake. Because the right candidate may not wish to leave academia entirely, the position may be less than full time, which would be negotiated (but not less than 60% time at Degrees).
Specific responsibilities include:

Plan and implement the new lines of work, above, and to develop new ones in cooperation with other staff members, Degrees-funded researchers, and volunteers;

The Role
Working closely with the Fundraising Manager, the role of the Regional Fundraiser will involve leading on all aspects of fundraising. Duties will include:

The role - Assistant Evening Domestic Abuse Worker
- To accept new referrals and complete move in procedures for new clients, including supporting flat turnarounds, cleaning, and re-stock to ensure there is no delay in accommodation any referral.

Programme Officer
Level Water is a national charity providing opportunities for young disabled people to learn to swim. Our mission is to work in partnership with national and regional organisations to deliver affordable, adapted, high-quality swimming lessons and start a lifelong love of swimming. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Programme Officer to join our dynamic team and drive the continuous growth of our projects by recruiting more sites & swimmers.
Job Summary: The Programme Officer will be responsible for managing the onboarding process of new sites, ensuring they meet our standards, and coordinating the referral of young people and families into our swimming programme.
This role requires excellent organisational and administration skills, strong communication abilities, and a passion for promoting swimming as a lifelong habit.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Onboarding:
● Manage the onboarding process for new swimming lesson sites, including liaising with site managers and staff.
● Ensure that new sites meet all necessary standards and requirements for delivering high-quality swimming lessons.
● Work with the Training & Development manager to provide training and support to the new site.
● Manage and maintain the new site pipeline, engaging with new sites as required.
- Site Management:
● Develop relationships with existing sites to ensure further opportunities & growth
● Ensure all sites are invoicing correctly monthly
● Input all invoices into finance tracker
● Ensure sites meet their partnership obligations to book swimmers
- Referral Coordination:
● Develop and manage the referral system to identify and refer young people and families to appropriate swimming lessons.
● Work closely with community organisations, schools, and other partners to generate referrals.
● Maintain accurate records of referrals and ensure timely communication with referred families.
● Keep the database updated and accurate with referrals, swimmer and application information.
- Community Engagement:
● Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners to promote our swimming programs.
- Administrative Duties:
● Maintain detailed records of site onboarding processes, referrals, and communications.
● Prepare and present reports on onboarding and referral activities to senior management.
● Assist with other administrative tasks as needed to support the smooth operation of the swimming programs.
- Customer Service:
● Serve as the main point of contact for families and young people referred to our programs, providing them with information and support.
● Address any concerns or issues that arise during the onboarding or referral process in a timely and professional manner.
- Training and Development coordination and support
● Support the Training & Excellence manager to book training for new and existing sites.
Skills and Experience
● Strong communication skills: Able to respond professionally and empathetically to parent and pool inquiries via phone, email, or in person.
● Exceptional organisational abilities: Capable of managing multiple tasks and prioritising workload effectively.
● Attention to detail: Proven ability to handle data entry, document preparation, and record-keeping with a high degree of accuracy.
● Problem-solving skills: Adept at addressing parent concerns and resolving issues efficiently by sourcing the right information from the right stakeholders.
● Technical proficiency: Familiar with Microsoft Excel, and other administrative tools.
● Team collaboration: Able to work effectively within a team environment while maintaining individual responsibilities
● Self-motivation: Demonstrates a strong personal drive to achieve goals and deliver results independently.
