The MHC Day Centre provides a vital refuge for individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their homes. Serving as a hub for essential services and support, the centre offers access to washing facilities, assistance with applications for benefits, jobs, and housing, and a nourishing home-cooked meal - all within a warm, friendly, and non-judgmental environment. Through these services, the centre helps restore dignity and stability to those in need. Meanwhile, our supported accommodation steps in where local councils may struggle to provide housing, helping individuals find long-term, stable solutions to their situation. We have been supporting the local homeless community for over 30 years and remain committed to continuing this vital work.

We are seeking a Manager to run our Day Centre and oversee the Food Bank and Goodsell House, our 10 bedded supportive housing unit

.

You will manage a small, dedicated staff and volunteer group who provide ongoing support to homeless people, with the aim of moving them on to permanent accommodation wherever possible. 

You will need effective leadership and management skills and will benefit from structured support from our Trustee group.

The working hours are 8am – 2.30pm and starting salary is £29K per annum, with a review after 6 months.

We're looking to recruit a Trainee Advice and Assessment Worker to be the welcoming face for clients arriving at our centre for advice and support. We are excited to offer opportunities for people looking to take their first steps into the advice sector and this role will work towards a level 3 award in information advice and guidance, which will take about 12 months to complete. You'll learn the skills and gain experience in delivering support to vulnerable people, with a particular focus on housing and welfare rights.

This exciting role will manage the initial assessment with the client in an empathetic way and will liaise with internal teams and with external agencies including other NGOs and statutory bodies and refer/signpost clients to services which may be more appropriate for their needs. You will work with the assessment manager and the rest of the team to develop service delivery and the way we interact with internal and external service providers.

The Domestic Abuse Service provides professional specialist, practical and emotional support to individuals from the Armed Forces community who are surviving domestic abuse. This includes support with housing applications enabling beneficiaries to secure a place of safety for themself and their children, access to counselling sessions, and application to military assistance providers who can provide financial support to meet specific beneficiary needs.

The Outreach Worker will respond to contact made to the service, which could be via the Stepping Stone Home, and provide personalised support to eligible clients with the aim of empowering them to lead independent lives.

About the role

We are looking for someone to manage a caseload from initial contact to case closure, providing direct support, advice, and guidance while ensuring appropriate onward referrals to relevant agencies. 

Providing bespoke listening and emotional support, you will assess and respond to the needs of clients in real time. You will deliver personalised and appropriate support with a high degree of emotional intelligence, demonstrating compassion and sensitivity to those experiencing domestic abuse, mental health difficulties, suicidal thoughts, or other vulnerabilities.

Working in partnership with internal teams, statutory bodies, and voluntary services, you will collaborate to enhance the support available to clients.

You will assess client eligibility for SSAFA support using a detailed knowledge of SSAFA Regulations, conducting regular reviews to ensure desired outcomes are achieved.

You will work with a small team; Domestic Abuse Advisor, Housing Manager and Family Support worker who are both experienced and skilled.

The team are trained in Safeguarding, Domestic Abuse, Housing, Benefits and other associated topics. As a team they learn and support one another.

About you

You will have had experience in delivering domestic abuse and welfare support to others. You will also need to be technically competent as you will be required to use varied digital platforms and software.

The role will be part of a larger Recovery Lounge team made up of Mental Health Recovery Workers, Peer Support Workers and volunteers.

About the Recovery Lounge Service

Our Recovery Lounges offer a safe, welcoming and non-judgmental environment outside of normal working hours for those who feel in mental distress or crisis. The role will involve assessing needs and offering one to one support to service users to enable them to begin the process of improving their mental health and wellbeing and to providing clarity on services and pathways available in the area.

Mind BLMK Recovery Lounges (formally known as Crisis Café) are open evenings in Bedfordshire and Luton. Anyone from Bedfordshire and Luton is welcome at any location. The service operates from 5pm-11pm 365 days of the year and can support you to get well, stay well.

The Recovery Lounge provides individuals with:

• A supportive and safe environment where they can decompress, take some quiet time, speak, and connect with others
• A one-to-one session with a trained mental health worker
• Support to identify positive mental health coping strategies, including goal and safety plans
• Advice and guidance about other support services available in their area (and nationally).

Service Delivery

• Deliver preventative focussed 1:1s when required, supporting a community focused safe space and ensure outcomes which supports individuals experiencing a mental health challenge including crisis in Central Bedfordshire & Bedfordshire, in line with Mind BLMK’s agreed service and requirements as well as contract requirements.
• Assessing need and suitability for the service in line with the access to services process and undertaking 1:1s.
• Contribute to maintaining an effective volunteer workforce for the service in line with Mind BLMK’s HR policies, procedures and guidance (workload planning and support).

Location: Harborne/hybrid working (this is an outreach position and you will be expected to be based in the community especially within Edgbaston and Northfield but with some city wide work as well)

Hours: 37 hours per week

Salary: £26,430 per annum

The Role

You will work as part of a city wide team of Community Development Workers as well as on a locality basis to ensure that they can combine targeted work with locality needs. This will include a strong element of co production, working with families and community assets to lead on projects and the development of new groups, services, and activities to meet the needs or improve services within the community. 

The role will also focus on increasing children and families engagement with local assets by working with them to improve accessibility, identify gaps in provision and encourage innovation and improvements to services.

Duties and key responsibilities include:

• Engaging statutory, community and voluntary organisations in a locality and working with all communities in the city.

• Engaging with a broad range of health, education, early years and social care organisations.

• Working with community providers to enable a ‘live’ understanding of community needs and resource capacity as part of a ‘gap analysis’ of the children and families offer across the locality. 

• Supporting residents to lead on community projects and the development and delivery of new groups, services, or activities to meet needs or improve services in the community.

• Working with the Family Hub to align outcomes and workstreams with Family Hubs Outcomes.

• Increasing children and families’ engagement with local assets by working with groups and organisations to improve accessibility, identify gaps in provision, and encourage innovation and improvement to services including local commissioning in line with identified needs. 

• Responding to targeted areas of work on a city-wide basis.

• Alongside the Service Lead, develop and deliver communications and engagement plans.

• Engaging with the citywide Early Help network, coordinated by BVSC, including regular attendance at meetings, as appropriate.

As the Director of Governance and Assurance, you will provide sector-leading company secretariat, governance, and assurance, ensuring the governance structure efficiently manages regulated activities and commercial group entities. The post-holder will also advise and support the Chief Executive, Chair, and SLT on all aspects of regulation, corporate governance, and effective business conduct for the organisation, ensuring the highest standards of probity and according to statutory and legislative requirements.

The Director of Governance and Assurance will oversee risk management and assurance functions, ensuring effective systems for internal controls and regulatory compliance, including internal audit management. They will provide administrative support for Board and Committee meetings, including agenda planning, minute taking, and record keeping.

This role is a key contact with the Regulator of Social Housing and other external government or regulatory organisations including CQC and Ofsted.

The role
The Domestic Abuse Prevention All Risk Perpetrator Worker will strive to make contact and work on a one-to-one basis with perpetrators whose victims have been identified through all levels of risk.

The purpose of this role is to move the perpetrator along the spectrum of awareness; acceptance of impact; desire to change; to voluntary engagement in behavioural change to end the cycle of abuse for children who are victims of domestic abuse.

The Domestic Abuse Prevention Worker will work with people on; awareness raising and developing motivation to change with people who recognise they are at risk of or are harming their partner (low risk), individual case management and group behavioural change programmes (standard and medium risk) and intensive case management aimed at high harm and/or significant recidivist perpetrators. To do this, the Domestic Abuse Prevention worker will work closely with existing agencies as part of a co located multi agency approach.

The Domestic Abuse Prevention worker will work closely with the victim/survivor IDVA service to review risk, develop safety plans, and improve outcomes for all parties involved. 

About you
You’ll have a deep understanding of the nature of domestic abuse and its effects on clients and children, as well as the reasons behind abusive behaviours towards intimate partners.

Your knowledge extends to the range of statutory and voluntary agencies that clients and their children may encounter, and you are aware of the impact of domestic abuse on children and parenting, including the additional needs of clients from BMER communities.

You will have experience in working with clients on issues of domestic abuse, providing one-to-one and group support and advice, managing your own workload and administration, and assessing the risk and safety of your clients and those connected to your client.  You will have handled safeguarding disclosures and referrals, and you communicate clearly with a range of people both over the telephone and in person. 

You will be organised, able to use your initiative, and work effectively as part of a multi-service team. Your administrative skills will be strong, and you will be adept at using a computer to maintain effective systems.

You will also be flexible, willing to work evenings and be able to travel independently. Additionally, you will have an understanding of trauma-informed practices, risk mitigation, and safeguarding. You will have experience liaising with social workers and other professionals, and in related areas such as substance misuse, child protection, or family support, is desirable.

Fluency in an additional language and skills in group work are also advantageous. You stay updated with best practices and new initiatives.
