Project Background
Come and join our award-winning place-based volunteering programme that works with residents living across Hackney and the City of London.
You will be based out in the community - the programme is based at GP practices - to engage, support and enable local residents and patients to deliver local services for themselves, to meet local needs. We support residents to come together, to share their skills and experience for the benefit of each other, to deliver local groups and activities such as a book group, film club, exercise classes or cooking group. Residents from diverse backgrounds and demographics attend these activities together and make new connections, building strong local communities, all working together to make their area a better place to live. People, many of whom are isolated across all ages, and who have difficult life circumstances, are brought together, providing each other with mutual support and encouragement to develop new skills and pursue life goals, and to feel better able to voice their concerns to services.
You will be joining a nationally recognised project - having won an award from the Royal Society of Public Health in November 2024 - to support residents to fulfil their personal goals, make connections with others, and design activities and services that meet local needs. You will also be supporting people to improve their mental and physical health through signposting them to appropriate services and encouraging them to talk to their GP if they have concerns; and will be working in partnership with GP practice staff to co-create volunteer roles to make the practice more efficient and a better place to visit.
Who are we?
Volunteer Centre Hackney is a medium sized charity (currently 30 staff) based in the London borough of Hackney, working to support local residents to realise their skills and passions through volunteering and social action, and to share these for the benefit of others.
Our mission is to build and strengthen communities across Hackney through supporting residents of all ages and backgrounds to volunteer and build projects together.
In 2021, we were awarded the Freedom of the Borough Award by Hackney Council for our efforts to support residents during COVID, which included mobilising over 2000 volunteers to deliver food, prescriptions and essential items, provide emotional support to isolated residents and support the vaccine rollout.
We work with hundreds of diverse community organisations and deliver various programmes to help residents share their skills and deliver their own social action projects to improve people’s lives. These include a befriending programme, volunteering brokerage matching local people to volunteer roles based on their skills, interests and goals, a specialist mental health programme, peer research and multiple resident engagement programmes at GP surgeries and estates across Hackney.
Post holders need to be enthusiastic and engaging, bringing energy to the role, be self-motivating and confident to work primarily alone, albeit with some support from the team members based at other sites.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for:
The Lead Coach is primarily responsible for overseeing the training room and group sessions with young people. You will help shape the training environment and will confidently adapt and deliver materials and sessions to work within the group’s development towards work readiness.
Delivery of Spear Programme - Group and 1:1 coaching [60%]
- Preparing and coaching Spear Foundation sessions and 1-1s, ensuring that young people are engaged, retained and work-ready by the end of this initial phase of the programme
- Building relationships with young people on the programme and managing culture, and attitudes in the training room
- Adapting the Spear coaching material according to the needs of the Trainees and managing behaviour effectively; handling safeguarding
- Taking a lead on rating the work readiness of the trainees and making sure data is inputted and used correctly on salesforce
- Liaising with volunteers for key programme engagement events such as mock interviews and external panels. Leading on briefings and communications with these volunteers
Delivery of Spear Career [20%]
- Delivering weekly Spear Career sessions (including running workshops with past Trainees), maintaining records and reporting on statistics, and creatively developing ongoing relationships with Spear Trainees
Training the Graduate Coach [10%]
- Contributing towards the training and developing of the Graduate Coach by modelling excellent coaching and giving regular feedback
Trainee recruitment [10%]
- Developing relationships with Job Centres and local referral agencies to ensure that the maximum number of Spear Trainees are enrolled on each programme. This involves liaising with referral agencies, active face-to-face recruitment and monitoring recruitment statistics
Continuous professional development
- Continually engaging in professional development, including being part of Resurgo’s wider coaching programmes and possibly supporting on leading internal training such as Grad Coach Training
Active participation in and support for church team and mission
- As the Spear programme is run in partnership with a local church partner, you will establish a strong personal connection with the church to develop the engagement and backing of church members and help build a strong network of supporters for the Spear programme. As part of this you may be asked to speak at church/events and contribute to prayer meetings as per Resurgo’s Christian ethos and the mission of the church

South East London Mind has been delivering a young person’s counselling service to students at Southwark College for several years.
As a Young People’s Counsellor, you’ll provide an age-appropriate counselling service that allows the students to explore their mental health and wellbeing, along with the socioeconomic factors that impact this. You’ll manage a caseload of students, triaging new clients to the service, coordinating the waiting list and capturing data and outcome measures on a CRM database.
We are looking for someone with a professionally-recognised diploma or equivalent in Counselling or Psychotherapy who has experience of providing counselling to young people aged 14 upwards. As you’ll be working closely with pastoral staff on-site, an ability to work independently but collaboratively, to be proactive and show initiative is essential for this role.
The role will involve:
- Offering age-appropriate counselling sessions, including assessments and risk assessments
- Working with teachers and pastoral staff to ensure that students are triaged and the relevant level of care and support is offered
- Record keeping: maintaining up-to-date records of work undertaken, including session notes, service records and Views CRM database records
- Contributing to quarterly monitoring reports, including reflections on key themes and issues experienced by students, case studies, and outcome measurement tools
- Liaising where appropriate with other SEL Mind staff, school/college staff or agencies including local statutory and voluntary sector professionals and organisations
- Attendance at regular supervisions with the Head of Services and meeting with other Young People’s Counsellors to keep abreast of key issues and needs across the service

Background
The Independent Schools Council (ISC) is a trade body which represents the independent schools’ sector in the UK. It comprises seven stakeholder associations who represent over 1,400 independent schools, educating more than half a million children. Debates over the taxation of independent schools has meant the sector having a high political profile. The role will be a permanent, full-time contract operating out of our London offices near St James’s Park underground station. Staff are able to work from home for part of the week.
Main purpose of job
Reporting to the Head of Policy, the successful candidate will deliver our public affairs workplan and support the development of policy positions. In particular, they will be responsible for building political relationships at national level while supporting schools to build local relationships with their MPs.
Person specification
· At least three years relevant political or public affairs experience.
· Ability to deliver public affairs work independently, working under the strategic supervision of the Head of Policy.
· Compelling, credible and confident communicator, able to:
o Write persuasively and with clarity
o Represent ISC in meetings with MPs, peers, civils servants and externals stakeholders at senior level
· Excellent working knowledge of Parliamentary and Whitehall processes.
· Ability to provide political counsel to senior ISC staff and member associations.
· Ability to build and develop a portfolio of external contacts and advocates.
· Can analyse policy documents and highlight issues of concern for member schools.
· Experience of responding to government consultations and select committee calls for evidence.
· Used to dealing with complex and changing issues in a challenging environment and able to respond flexibly and quickly as priorities change.

Specific responsibilities
To deliver ISC’s public affairs and policy activity including, but not restricted to, the tasks below:
· A priority is to develop good working relationships and links with association staff in the interests of maximising impact by working together.
· Develop and implement the public affairs and Parliamentary strategy for ISC.
· Implement political contact programme with Parliamentarians and external stakeholders; including attendance at party conferences.
· Advise and support school heads when engaging with local MPs and councillors; produce engagement toolkits.
· Advise the Chief Executive, senior staff and member associations and schools on effective public affairs approaches.
· Become a trusted source of political advice to member associations and schools, present at member meetings and conferences.
· Monitor Parliamentary activity – identifying issues, people to contact and writing weekly political update.
· Write briefings ahead of Parliamentary debates and engage with those taking part.
· Draft submissions to government consultations and select committee inquiries, working with members associations and schools to develop relevant policy positions.
· Work with the ISC media and communications team to ensure messaging is aligned, supporting the public affairs strategy and campaigns.

Do you want to work with multiple award-winning charity, FoodCycle? This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for food and community to be a part of FoodCycle’s after-school community meal projects. As Schools Coordinator, you will coordinate and deliver weekly family meals at your allocated schools (2-3 evenings per week) as well as coordinate all aspects of the projects, from volunteer management to food surplus supply.
Our after-school community meals will be spaces where families of school children can gather at the end of the school day to enjoy a free nutritious meal and be among the school community. With the support of our National Schools & Franchise Manager you will manage local relationships with schools, community partners, supermarkets and volunteer recruitment channels to enable our meals to happen each week
As a can-do person and excellent communicator, you will manage the volunteers at each project ensuring they are trained, supported and on-message with FoodCycle strategy. You will have previously worked with primary school-aged children or families, in school or other setting. There will be frequent travel within Central Region (Initially focused in Birmingham/West Midlands), with evening work required. A full driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes is essential for this rewarding role.

Purpose of the Position
This role is central to driving and expanding our fundraising efforts through the strategic cultivation and stewardship of trusts and foundation relationships. This position is instrumental in identifying and securing sustainable funding sources to support World Bicycle Relief’s mission, ensuring that more people are mobilised through the Power of Bicycles.
This role requires a strong partnership with the UK Managing Director, ensuring that fundraising strategies are robustly executed and aligned with organisational goals.

Responsibilities
- Collaborative Strategy Execution: Works closely with the UK Managing Director, incorporating programmatic priorities for developing key funding partnerships, to align and execute the trusts and foundations fundraising strategy.
- Strategic Growth & Income Diversification: Supports the development of and executes a growth strategy to increase trust and foundation income, leveraging both existing and new opportunities, including institutional fundraising and government funding where relevant.
- Prospecting & Pipeline Development: Proactively identifies, researches, and cultivates new trust and foundation prospects to expand the current portfolio and drive significant new revenue growth in alignment with fundraising targets.
- Relationship Management & Stewardship: Establishes, nurtures, and manages strong relationships with trust and foundation donors, ensuring tailored engagement, timely reporting, and strategic alignment with donor priorities to maximize long-term support.
- Proposal & Fund Development: Leads the development and submission of compelling funding proposals to generate revenue, while ensuring collaboration with the global proposal development enablement function for high-value (£100k+) opportunities. Edits concepts, proposals, pitch decks and stewardships materials.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Works closely with WBR’s global Development & Marcomm and proposal development team to source insights, data, and programmatic information that strengthen proposals and enhance donor engagement, ensuring UK efforts align with international fundraising strategies.

We are seeking a Data and Impact Officer to join us to work closely with our Head of Data and Impact and Impact and Evaluation Manager. The role will include administering and developing our database, helping to assess the impact of our
programmes, and producing reports for varied audiences including staff members delivering the IntoUniversity programme
in our centres. As part of a small team, you’ll be involved in providing key data support from the start.
Full training in Excel, Salesforce and data analysis will be provided by the charity’s experts. Prior experience in these areas is not essential, as long as you are a quick learner who is keen to develop your skills. The role is busy and fast-paced. You’ll be meticulous, organised and work to high standards, with a sharp eye for detail. You'll be home based and able to support schools in one of the following regions: East Midlands, North East England, North West England or South Wales Valleys.
About the Primary Science Teaching Trust (PSTT)
PSTT is a registered charity with a clear vision – we want to see excellent teaching of science in every primary classroom in the UK. We believe it is vital that children are engaged and inspired by science from an early age. We want to draw on their natural curiosity to help them explore, understand and ask questions about the world around them.
We’ve built a Primary Science Teacher College of over 200 outstanding teachers; each helping to shape and influence science teaching across the UK. We produce great resources that improve how science is taught and planned. We organise engaging professional learning events for teachers, and work with partner organisations to further enhance how science is taught. Our 2023-28 strategy is building on these strengths to reach more teachers across a more diverse range of schools.
We’re dedicating our most intensive efforts to areas of the UK requiring most development in primary science. Our Priority Areas initiative is being piloted in 30 schools, and in September 2025 we plan to launch this programme in a further 30 schools. Our Regional Mentors have worked with more than 3,000 schools across England, with exceptionally positive feedback.
Job summary
There are two parts to the Primary Science Mentor role. The majority of the role will focus on strengthening primary science teaching and leadership by leading our second Priority Areas initiative. Through their knowledge of and passion for primary science education, the successful candidate will inspire transformational change in schools taking part in this project. They will build close working relationships with participating schools and create a vibrant and exciting learning community based on mutual support and the sharing of expertise.
The remaining hours in the role will be as a Regional Mentor: joining PSTT’s growing team of primary science experts who provide bespoke support directly to individual schools, multi-academy trusts and other school groupings and organisations. This includes developing and delivering training in a variety of contexts, including online; working individually with Science Leaders; being a leading voice, expert and advocate for primary science (both regionally and nationally); and creating partnerships with other organisations that support science within the region.
A crucial part of the role is to ensure collection of appropriate data for both Priority Areas and Regional Mentor activities, so that we can evaluate our work against intended outcomes.
