About the role

Your key purpose will be in the absence of and alongside the Shop Manager, to manage a team of volunteers to maximise sales, deliver excellent customer service and ensure that the shop premises and assets are maintained to a high standard, according to legal requirements and Shooting Star Children’s Hospices (SSCH) policies and procedures

About you

This role requires experience of working in retail and preferably of managing a team.  You will have excellent customer service skills and be sales focussed and target driven. You will have cash handling and excellent administrative skills.  You will also be willing and able to work flexibly across 7 days.

Crisis is the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. In 2024 we embarked on our new 10-year strategy for ending homelessness. We know it is not inevitable. We know together we can end it.

About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Shop Supervisor to make a difference and deliver positive social impact in the local community while also raising money to fund Crisis’ work ending homelessness. 

As a Shop Supervisor, you will support the Shop Manager and Assistant Shop Manager to deliver an outstanding customer experience. You will play a key role in delivering customer service and supporting volunteers, as well maintaining the look and feel of the shop and processing stock. You will work towards ambitious sales and training targets, maximising the impact on our mission to end homelessness.

This is a unique retail opportunity where you will also be involved in delivering on the job training for Crisis members, supporting them to gain the skills and confidence needed in the workplace. You will work collaboratively with your team and will have opportunities to build your own skills and career progression.

Salary: £32,000 per annum pro rata (plus 5% pension commencing from successful completion of probation period).

Hours: 22.5 per week

Working Pattern: Monday – Friday, 9am – 1:30pm. Occasional afternoon, Saturday or evening working depending on the needs of the charity and the project.

Role purpose is to:

• Manage smooth and safe day-to-day delivery of the Community Food Shop, supporting customers, managing staff and volunteers and ensuring food stock is sufficient and excellent food hygiene levels are met (75%)
• Strengthen capacity within the service by maintaining excellent relationships with food donors, volunteers and other external organisations, and assisting with onboarding new volunteers (15%)

In addition, if agreed with the Food Shop Manager, it is possible for some Saturday afternoon tasks to be completed on Mondays or Tuesdays instead.

As the Community Food Shop Stock Coordinator, you can use your hardworking and organised nature to help feed people in need in Sutton. You will:

• Manage stock at the shop safely and effectively, supported by the Food Shop Manager and leading a team of Restocking Volunteers (70%)

Location: Based at the Community Food Shop in the St Nicholas Centre in Sutton (SM1 1AY), with occasional travel to the office (Highfield Hall, 320 Carshalton Road, SM5 3QB) and other local places to collect food.

Occupational Requirements: This role involves offering and participating in Christian prayer with members of the public and volunteers, leading devotions and group prayer, and providing pastoral care and supervision to volunteers. It is therefore an occupational requirement for the post-holder to be a practicing Christian.

This role also involves buying/transporting food multiple days per week, therefore it is a requirement that the post-holder is a driver with access to a safe vehicle they are insured to drive for work purposes.

We are opening a brand new bookshop in Calverton during 2025 and we are seeking a passionate and experienced Bookshop Manager to lead our diverse volunteer team and oversee daily operations to maximise income for our charity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail management, a love for books and media, and excellent customer service skills.

Wigan & Leigh Hospice is looking for a Marketing and Communications Manager to join our Business Development team.

The hospice is a charity which is firmly embedded in its community and relies on the support of that community to keeps its services running. As Marketing & Communications Manager you will play a key role in raising the profile of the hospice, helping our community to better understand the services we offer.
