Role Description
We are looking for several additional trustees on a part time and voluntary basis to join the Board of Trustees. We need leadership from people who really care about social issues in our community. About the role
Our volunteers play a crucial role in our organisation, enabling us to offer a diverse range of additional services to the people we support. By becoming a home visitor, you can develop your communication and interpersonal skills, and you will make a vital difference to the person you visit by reducing their feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Time Commitment
This role requires a weekly commitment at a time to be agreed by both you and the individual. We will regularly make contact with you both to see how the relationship is building and offer ongoing support as needed. You will be required to undertake a short Sighted Guide training session, provided by us, if you propose to take an individual out of the house for a walk or coffee.
To ensure a member of staff is available in case of a safeguarding concern, we ask that visits take place Monday - Friday between 9am and 4pm.

Requirements
- We are looking for friendly, reliable people who can be patient with individuals who may be blind, partially sighted or hard of hearing. Your role is to be there to provide a befriending service, and if requested, offer them a walk around their local area or a coffee in a local café.
- The role will not involve providing personal or health care, taking an individual to any medical appointments or shopping.
- To assist the person to continue any hobby that their sensory impairment is making it more difficult to achieve, within the home environment such as reading for pleasure (not reading correspondence) or playing a game.
We will match you with someone in your local area and wherever possible you will be matched with an individual who shares similar interests.
You may be asked from time to time if you are able to support other volunteer roles including one to one support with vulnerable adults. Please be aware that volunteers are required to have an enhanced check via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and join the DBS Update Service to ensure that regular checks can be undertaken during your volunteering service. Role purpose
The treasurer acts as a trustee of the charity, with additional responsibilities for overseeing the charities funds. Day to day bookkeeping is carried out in the office by the charity’s accounts clerks, using a Sage accounting package. Please note that for safeguarding purposes, the successful applicant will be required to undertake a PVG check. The cost of which will be covered by Pain Concern. This role reports into the Board of Trustees and works closely with the Charity’s Chair.
What you would be doing
• To monitor the financial administration of the charity and report to the board of trustees at regular (monthly) intervals.
• Overseeing the preparation of the accounts and annual financial statements.
• Leading the board in its duty to ensure that the financial accounts are kept in line with regulatory requirements and reports are filed with OSCR and Companies House.
• Leading in the development and implementation of charity’s reserves policies. • Overseeing the financial controls and adherence to systems.

Youth Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of healthy citizens. Youth Leaders also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.

The Men in Sheds Project: Is a project specifically for men aged 50+. It provides a well equipped workshop space where men can work together on a range of practical activities. We currently have ‘sheds’ in Blidworth and Worksop. The project aims to:
- encourage men to be more socially active
- give members an outlet for their skills and the opportunity to learn new skills
- provide a break amongst friends for older men who are carers
- give retired men the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to the local community
- provide access to information and other local services Members are encouraged to take ownership of their ’shed’.
What impact does this role have? This role helps combat social isolation for men over the age of 50.
What activities might you be involved in?
• To unlock the shed and get it ready for use, heating, check for unsafe items of machines etc.
• Supervising workshop sessions, alongside another volunteer.
• Collect or oversee the payment of subscriptions, ensure that members book in on the attendance register
• Assist members if needed with projects, lifting etc.
• Agree with members in advance on the price of projects that members make
• Take payment for items when finished, issue a receipt and record the sale
• Encourage work that could be done to members, orders, seasonal items etc.
• Meet and greet visitors, ensure they comply with all safety requirements and to sign in
• Meet and greet potential new members, show them around the shed and briefly describe the aims and function of the shed. Arrange a meeting with a shed leader for induction if interested. Ensure they comply with all safety requirements and to sign in

➢ Expected levels of conduct include:
o Treat members and fellow volunteers in a friendly and supportive approachable manner
o Not use rude, offensive, threatening or abusive behaviour, language or gestures
o If anybody is deemed under the influence they will be asked to leave the shed and not to return until sober
o Report any incidents or breach of any of the above to the Shed Leader in confidence
o Report any complaints about the project / charity in line with Age UK Notts’ Compliments and Complaints procedure

The UK Board of Trustees governs UWS by setting its strategic direction, approving its goals and objectives, and providing oversight to ensure the organisation fulfils its mission. Trustees use their networks and expertise to support UWS in expanding its reach and impact.
Due to some Trustees stepping down at the end of their term, UWS is seeking one new Trustee to help expand its reach internationally to serve more children in remote communities. UWS is now particularly interested in candidates with International Development experience (INGO experience), particularly in Primary Education and ideally with an understanding of gender inclusive education – ensuring girls have the same start in life as boys.

Brent Foodbank are seeking to recruit two trustees - one to act as our Fundraising Lead, with the other supporting the work of the Board of Trustees more generally to support the food bank to meet its core purpose.
What will you be doing?
General Trustee Key responsibilities:
- As board members, we work to set a long-term strategy for Brent Foodbank, defining clear objectives and milestones to be monitored and refined.
- Managing Brent Foodbank’s resources responsibly, including ensuring the charity’s assets are used only to carry out its purpose, avoid undue risk and not over-commit the charity.
- Ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as ensuring that the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law.
- Adhering to best practice for governance of the Foodbank’s assets and staff.
- Ensure the Foodbank has appropriate procedures in place to comply with current legislation and best practice, including - employment, health and safety, safeguarding, equal opportunities and GDPR/data protection compliance.
- Ensure the Foodbank treats all its Clients with dignity and respect taking account of the diversity of our Clients.
- Acting with reasonable care and skill.
- Seeking to promote Brent Foodbank in the community. Acting as an ambassador for Brent Foodbank, promoting Brent Foodbank widely, for instance, on social media to our stakeholders, including: our Clients, Volunteers and potential funders/donors.

Fundraising Lead Trustee Key responsibilities (in addition to the above):
- To work alongside the Treasurer and the rest of the Board to plan what level of funds are required to be generated to ensure the effective running of the charity.
- To work alongside the Trustee Board to ensure that any grants are sought and written with the purpose of meeting the charity's vision and objectives.
- To pilot the organisation of a fundraising sub-committee and lead on local fund-raising opportunities to support the running of the charity, including incorporating national Trussell fundraising campaigns/events throughout the year.
- To oversee, with operational management support, the writing of high-quality grant applications that align with the charity's vision and objectives.
- Regularly communicate with the rest of the Trustee Board via Trustee meetings or any other communication of any relevant information and/or developments regarding fundraising or grant applications.

The role involves acting as a charity trustee to set the strategic direction for the food bank. Providing good governance, ensuring that the food bank meets its objectives and fulfils its charitable purpose. Trustees are required to comply with the food bank’s governing documents, charity law and other relevant laws. Chair opportunity
Our current Chair is planning to retire in September 2025, after 20 highly successful years of dedicated service. We are now seeking to appoint a new Chair to lead the charity and ensure it continues to deliver substantial social impact.

Our new Chair should be positive, resilient, determined and someone who listens and learns from others within and beyond BFCCST. A genuine commitment and empathy towards the needs of the communities that the Trust serves is key.

Our busy Homework Club is part of our delivery of child and family support services, in order that low income and vulnerable families have improved access to services, employment opportunities and life chances.
In response to requests from parents and young people, the Centre provides after-school Homework and Study clubs during term time. Children from three local primary schools, and a few from Year 7 attend the club. Many come from families where English is a second language.
Volunteers sit on a table with 1 or 2 children and provide help with their homework, maths and English work mostly, and some reading. Volunteers commit to one session a week on Friday (3.30 – 5.30pm).
Our Mission
Each Person Matters: The Cardinal Hume Centre enables families, children and young people to overcome poverty and avoid homelessness.
What are we looking for?
- Ideally you have some experience in teaching, either professionally, voluntary or at home with your own children.
- You are friendly, patient and can have rapport with children easily.
- Able to help with maths and English at primary school level.
What is the time commitment?
- Ideally at least one academic term
- Fridays, 3.30 – 5.30pm at The Cardinal Hume Centre and we are trialing an outreach sessions at a local Library & Hotel on otger weekdays

- You will be supported by the Family Services staff team.
- You will have access to wide range of e-learning topics. Child safeguarding and fire safety awareness is mandatory for all new volunteers.

About TLC
The Trans Legal Clinic is the first trans-led specialist gender identity legal practice and registered charity in the UK. The mission of the Trans Legal Clinic is simple; we provide free and accessible legal help to transgender and non-binary people in need. Our overarching vision is a society where all people have access to the legal resources required for gender self-determination and where gender diversity is not just accepted but embraced, with trans* people equipped with the necessary legal tools to navigate the world in their affirmed gender.
Service Introduction
The Casework department is the core of our organisation, working directly with clients by offering them support and advocacy. We have assisted over 70 clients since October 2023 and will be re-opening our referrals in January 2025 to new clients seeking our support.
Our Casework department is divided into four teams. Each team constitutes of a Specialist Caseworker who oversees 5-15 casework volunteers. Our four teams are:
Housing and Homelessness
Discrimination
Gender Recognition: legal transition and healthcare advocacy
Gender-Based Violence: domestic abuse and hate crime
The Gender Recognition team supports clients to navigate their social and legal transition, including assisting clients with changing their name via deed poll and updating identifying documents such as driver’s licenses and passports as well as obtaining Gender Recognition Certificates. You will also provide a healthcare advocacy service supporting clients to accessing gender-affirming care by direct liaison with healthcare providers including GPs, GICs, and private providers, ensuring that fair and supportive processes are followed.
Key tasks and responsibilities
Support and outreach
Be fully aware of safeguarding issues and lead on client risk management within the service.
Update the Gender Recognition client database to ensure client records are updated within agreed timeframes and that they accurately record interventions and demonstrate progress.
Liaise with our team of solicitors when requesting advice and guidance on a case.
Reach out to organisations that specialise in gender recognition, legal transition, and gender affirming healthcare, to collaborate and share knowledge and resources.
Teamwork
Lead the Gender Recognition team by supervising caseworkers.
Support caseworks by setting clear objectives and holding team and individual supervisions regularly.
Set and moderate team performance targets.
Attend department meetings and contribute to discussions.
Be respectful to colleagues and support good communication between all stakeholders.
Research
Create and deliver training for current and future caseworkers in the Gender Recognition team.
Create resources for caseworkers on relevant legislation, case studies, and good practice, to allow them to become more knowledgeable and independent whilst working with clients.
Create resources for clients and those seeking information on our website about their rights regarding gender recognition, legal transition, and gender-affirming healthcare.
Conduct general research into gender recognition, legal transition, and gender-affirming healthcare in the UK.
General
Adhere to Trans Legal Clinic’s Policies and Procedures at all times.
Cover for other members of the team and department as necessary.
Be proactive in reviewing and evaluating own performance and identifying upon areas for improvement and development.
Undertake development and training opportunities.
Undertake any other duties compatible with the level and nature of the role and/or reasonable required by more senior members of staff.
Attend and participate in external meetings and briefings as required.
