Purpose of the role

At NEON we believe that organising is crucial if we’re to build the power we need to win a new economy and deepen cross-community solidarity at a time of political polarisation. A central part of our new strategy - and this role -  is to support movement organisations and organisers to build their capacity to do what we call Transformative Organising - where we transform the conditions we live in, transform ourselves and transform who has power in society. We use a combination of trainings, 1-2-1 mentoring and strategic partnerships with movement organisations to give organisers the tools, skills and confidence they need to build a base with those at the sharp end of the crisis, develop politically conscious leaders, and plan strategic & escalating campaigns that win. You’ll work with our Head of Organising and colleagues in the Movement Building Hub to scale up this offer over the coming years, with a particular focus on the housing, climate and migration movements, as well as supporting movements to tackle a rising far-right. 

What you will be doing

1. Deliver organising trainings to social movement organisers and campaigners, using content from our Transformative Organising programme and working closely with our Head of Organising and NEON trainers. These will be a mix of shorter workshops and multi-day trainings, blending in-person and online delivery, and you will be supported to experiment with different delivery models to meet movement needs. 

2. Work in partnership with organisers, organisations and coalitions to build their organising capacity over the long-term, through ongoing mentoring and hands-on support and training.

3. Conduct extensive 1-2-1s with movement organisers, to strengthen relationships, explore opportunities for collaboration and understand movement needs. 

4. Support the development of a network of UK-based organisers, and create spaces for collective learning and ensure NEON’s organising offer meets the needs of organisers on the ground.

5. Work with the Head of Organising to periodically review and update NEON’s Transformative Organising content, staying responsive to movement needs and incorporating the latest organising practices and tools. 

6. Organise public events on organising topics, including webinars and workshops, bringing together organisers from across social movements

7. Contribute to the Movement Building Hub’s wider work, including the organising components of our Worker-led Transition programme and our work to build the strategic capacity of movement leaders and organisations. This role will also contribute to cross-organisational work in NEON’s key focus areas (migration, housing, climate, and tackling the rise of the far-right), as well as projects to support the development of NEON’s internal culture. 

Who you are

This isn’t a tick box exercise and we don’t expect you to meet all of the criteria - it’s more to give both us and you an overall sense of the role, and how the skills and experience you have might map onto it. 

We’re looking for someone with a: 

1. Proven track record of using organising tools and approaches to plan and deliver successful campaigns, with at least 3-5 years of experience. This might include doing base-building, conducting outreach, mapping, organising mass meetings and actions, or integrating political education into campaign planning 

2. Ability to deliver a strategic and escalating organising plan in a fast moving  and politically complex environment 

3. Experience of delivering trainings, including to those at the sharp end of injustice, with a passion for being and developing as a trainer

4. Understanding of UK social movements, their strengths and weaknesses, and opportunities for NEON to provide support 

5. Good communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and sensitively, and work effectively with a range of movement organisations and individuals, including those directly impacted by injustice and oppression

6. Excellent planning skills to ensure projects are designed delivered to a high standard

7. Ability to work independently and flexibly in a dynamic organisation

8. Willingness to occasionally work unsociable hours (always repaid with TOIL)

9. Proven understanding of anti-oppression work and commitment to tackling all institutional forms of oppression, bigotry and exclusion

10. An affinity with NEON’s aims, objectives and organisational values of solidarity, generosity and respect.

Turn2us is a national charity tackling financial insecurity and its structural causes. We work with co-producers and partners to provide people in financial crisis with the means and agency to get back on their feet, build resilience, move forward with their lives and thrive.

Turn2us and its partners have secured £1.5 million from The National Lottery Community Fund to deliver an ambitious and innovative new programme that will support charities in England and Scotland to empower diverse and marginalised communities to respond to climate change and to get their voices heard in environmental policy and media debates.It will focus on Disabled people, those facing financial insecurity and people from ethnic minority communities. These voices are often the least heard from in national and local debates on our environment. This new work aims to change that.

As part of this programme, The National Lottery Community Fund have funded the creation of an Engagement Manager post at Turn2us to work with those facing financial insecurity. The Engagement Manager employed by Turn2us will deliver activity with smaller charities and grassroots organisations supporting those facing financial insecurity that:

• Increases awareness of the impact of environmental change and related policy on different communities 
• Listens to people in these communities to find out what actions they want charities and local government to take
• Develops shared local environmental policy priorities and empowers these organisations to advocate directly to local and national policy makers
• Identifies actions that these organisations can take to support communities to respond to climate change, and helps organisations to implement them
• Identifies people with lived experience to receive hands on training in order to act as diverse champions to media and policy makers

They will work closely with Community Engagement Managers employed by Disability Rights UK, and Race Equality Foundation, focussed on reaching organisations supporting Disabled people and people from ethnic minority communities. 

We offer flexible working patterns, both in terms of hours and remote working. Please note that all employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 4 days a month on a weekly basis.

Some roles may be required to be in the office more often than others and this will be agreed with the hiring manager upon starting at Turn2us.

The role: Royal Navy Sports and Community Infrastructure Project Officer - full time/35 hours per week 

As a key member of the Greenwich Hospital and Andrew Simpson Foundation teams, you will be responsible for developing the RN “Building Sports and Well-being for the Future” vision into a costed, designed and persuasive community hubs plan, followed by its implementation as an effectively managed transformational project delivering high-quality sports and community hubs.

Based within the Andrew Simpson Foundation, the role will drive strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and scalable delivery aligned with RN priorities. 

This is a fantastic opportunity for a disciplined and visionary self-starter to turn a vision into reality. As well as working closely with the ASF and GH Charity teams, you will be liaising with relevant stakeholders in the Royal Navy, particularly base commanders and those responsible for delivering Navy sport and supporting the community.

Experience of life in the Forces is essential, while knowledge of the challenges of infrastructure management would be a strong advantage.

WE ARE HIRING AND SEEKING A REGIONAL SAFEGUARDING MANAGER

The purpose of the Regional Safeguarding Manager role is to provide line management and professional supervision to a team of Regional Safeguarding Leads operating across eight regions in England.

As the Regional Safeguarding Manager, you will be a member of the National Safeguarding Team (NST), working to support safeguarding practice in Dioceses and Cathedrals across the Church of England. You will be responsible for supervising the Regional Safeguarding Leads and supporting them in fulfilling their complex roles. You will work closely with colleagues in the NST to ensure Church-wide consistency in approach.

You will work across the regions supporting the Regional Safeguarding leads to establish opportunities for shared resourcing, working arrangements and commissioning of collaborative services. In addition, you will be supporting the implementation of the National Safeguarding Standards to encourage consistency of practice.

You'll be responsible for:

• Providing Professional Supervision to the Regional Safeguarding Leads
• Providing advice and guidance on the engagement between Regional Safeguarding Leads and a diocese/cathedral.
• Overseeing the use of tools and frameworks to examine practices and processes by Regional Safeguarding Leads to ensure the Church of England's National Safeguarding Standards are being consistently met or worked towards.
• Encouraging the Regional Safeguarding Leads to explore opportunities for the joint commissioning of specific services, including joint working and sharing of resources.
• Establishing effective relationships with key stakeholders (operational and strategic) at a National and Regional level.

Key role requirements

• This is a hybrid role with the expectation to work from the office 1 day per week.
• The post holder will be required to travel extensively across the country to visit each of the regions. It is anticipated that this will include an annual visit to each diocese and cathedral and at least monthly meetings in Church House, Westminster.
• An enhanced DBS check will be required as part of our pre-employment checks.

You will also need:

• Experience in Senior management of safeguarding children and/or vulnerable adults at a local and regional level, including the development of safeguarding capabilities and practice.
• A professional qualification or equivalent experience relevant to safeguarding at a senior level.
• An up-to-date knowledge of research and evidence-based practice models relevant to safeguarding and the wider social and political context.
• A strategic and operational experience in managing staff and teams, and working collaboratively with specialist and non-specialist colleagues.

What you’ll be doing:

The successful Director of Philanthropy will represent Our Future Health at pitches, fundraising events and meetings with internal and external stakeholders. Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Lead the planning and management of High Value income streams as well taking a proactive role in fundraising high value gifts from Trusts & Foundations, Corporate Partnerships and Major Donors. 
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, with the Code of Fundraising Practice, and with official guidance issued by the Fundraising Regulator.
• Undertake research and make use of tools to identify potential High Value partners.
• Develop strong and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement the philanthropy strategy.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with high-value donors, ensuring effective solicitation, stewardship, and follow-up to secure significant contributions (six-seven figure gifts). You will lead on prospecting, stewarding, maintaining, and uplifting a portfolio of major donors.
• Build a portfolio of corporate partners, including securing high-value Charity Of The Year partnerships. You will work with the Our Future Health team to grow this income stream from prospecting, approaches, applications, pitches, stewardship and providing account management.
• Build and maintain a portfolio of Trusts & Foundation supporters. Responsible for researching, approaching and developing compelling applications with a focus on ensuring Trusts & Foundations provide a long-term, diverse and sustainable income stream. 
• Work closely with colleagues in the Communications Team to write and design compelling cases for support that are tailored to our High Value prospects and partnerships grounded in our branding and communications toolkit.
• Produce regular reports on fundraising activity for the Executive Team and Board, analysing performance against targets, and identifying areas for improvement and growth.
• Develop and deliver effective stewardship journeys and ensuring they are tracked and implemented across High Value giving.
• Contribute to the delivery of effective and efficient governance structures to support Our Future Health’s strategic partnerships, where required.
• Participate actively in team meetings, contributing ideas and insights to enhance team performance and collaboration.

• Experience of working within a results-oriented environment, with a record of achieving personal and team KPIs and targets. Proven experience in budgeting and performance monitoring for fundraising activities.
• Experience in managing complex fundraising initiatives across multiple income streams.
• Ability to attend work events outside of working hours as and when necessary.
• Experience of working in a similar role in the academic or biomedical research charity sector and/or NHS would be advantageous.

We are looking for a dedicated Advocacy Campaigns Manager to join our Advocacy team within Action Against Hunger UK's Operations department.  This is a great time to join our team as we broaden the reach of our public advocacy campaigns to a wider audience. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead on developing and delivering our advocacy campaigns strategy, and also supporting with policy and parliamentary work. Our advocacy and campaigns focus on tackling the key drivers of hunger – conflict, climate change, poverty and inequality – and promoting improved response.

On the campaigns front, this role means spending around three days on designing and delivering creative and engaging online campaign actions, in collaboration with skilled colleagues across teams, organizing campaign events and building the engagement of chef and food industry supporters in our advocacy. About the role 

We The Curious is about to enter an exciting new phase in its mission to connect and empower everyone through shared creative science learning experiences. It is nearly a year since we reopened and as we enter our 25th Anniversary Year there is lots to celebrate and talk about with our new multi-year strategy, Plan 2030 which encompasses numerous major projects for which we must develop and cultivate support. 

The Development Team is responsible for fundraising across the whole organisation and the stewardship and development of our donors and supporters. The other members of the team are the Development Manager, the Gifts and Partnerships Manager and Development Account Manager. We are looking for a Trusts and Foundations Manager who is collaborative, organised and an excellent communicator to join the team to help us maximise and unlock some very exciting fundraising opportunities. 

As Trusts and Foundations Manager you will use your skills in research and persuasion to identify grants funding opportunities, establish new relationships and write and submit proposals to trusts, foundations, Lottery funders, the local authority, universities and research councils. Working closely with the rest of the team and project managers from other departments you will raise between six and seven figure sums for our programme of creative science learning and inclusion projects.

What will you do in this role? 

Role specific responsibilities 

_Identify new grants funding sources, including trusts and foundations, research councils and statutory/government funders.

_Prepare and submit high quality funding proposals, expressions of interest and budgets in accordance with strict deadlines and application criteria, to a diverse range of funders, for up to seven-figure sums.

_Work closely with internal departmental teams to develop We The Curious projects so that they are ready for fundraising and write detailed and compelling cases for support that include timelines, budgets and evaluation and reporting plans.

_Support the funding applications of other partner organisations by collaboratively drafting budgets, attending project development meetings and writing letters of support.

_Support the Development Account Manager to cultivate potential funders, including attending on-site visits and events, phone calls and delivering presentations to secure support.

_Support the Development Account Manager to manage a portfolio of funders including overseas relationships, fulfilling reporting and public recognition requirements, thank you letters, regular communications and other correspondence.

_Liaise with the finance team to record new income and report on expenditure in accordance with funder deadlines.   

_Support the Gifts and Partnerships Manager and Development Manager in identifying new strategic opportunities and exploring new types of income stream. This may include presenting to the leadership team. Contribute to the delivery of the fundraising strategy, including proposing financial targets for grants, lottery and research income.

_Work closely with the Open City Research (OCR) Manager to identify and pursue new funding opportunities for our ambitious OCR programme and work with the finance team to establish a new funding model for this activity. Support the Gifts and Partnerships Manager and Sustainability and Science Director in cultivating high-value stakeholders in STEM and research sectors.

_Assist in the implementation of the Development Team’s migration onto a new CRM database working closely with the Development Account Manager to customise the database for the Development team’s needs. 

_Work with the finance team to understand our financial position and as requested by the Finance Director, contributing to key organisational financial documentation, such as the annual business plan. 

_Manage Fundraising Volunteers supporting the administrative workload of the team and attend Volunteer Key Contacts meetings.

_Attend and occasionally present at We The Curious staff meetings, exhibition launches, project meetings, project development presentations and meetings as required.

General ​responsibilities 

_Develop and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of We The Curious’ planned activities for communities and schools to present our work persuasively to funders and partners.

What we’re looking for from you 

_You’ll have at least three years of fundraising experience, with success at delivering against financial targets and strict deadlines. You’ll have the ability to network, build and manage funding relationships with a wide range of funders and other stakeholders.

_You’ll be confident explaining and pitching ideas to internal and external stakeholders.

_You’ll have experience of working very closely with project delivery teams to develop projects, ensure they know what they need to deliver for funders and monitor their expenditure.

_You’ll have excellent budget management skills, the ability to work independently and effectively and will be confident reporting on six or seven figure budgets.

_You will have good understanding of the financial and regulatory environment charities operate within.

_You’ll have some technical knowledge and experience at using and developing fundraising databases.

_You’ll have experience and confidence in managing multiple projects simultaneously.

_You’ll have the ability to understand We The Curious’ broad-ranging project content and tailor it to appropriate style and content for target funders.

_You’ll have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

_You’ll ideally have an understanding or experience of working in education, culture and/or science charities.
