We’re looking for someone special to lead our Kitchen Club programme, supporting families with children under 5 in temporary accommodation. If you’re passionate about food, families and fairness, with the right skills and experience, then we’d love to hear from you!
At Kitchen Club, families with pre-school children work together to make a healthy lunch alongside activities to support children's learning and development. We aim to support families by improving outcomes in five key areas:
· Nutrition
· The home learning environment
· Mental wellbeing
· Social connection
· Access to information & support
With management responsibility for up to 8 part-time staff, this is a crucial role within our small but growing organisation, combining team leadership with hands-on support for session delivery, including helping with the washing up if that’s what is needed!
We work with families who face a range of significant challenges, including low income, trauma, and inadequate housing. An important aspect of this job is working closely with the delivery team to understand and respond to individual and group needs. The Programme Manager is responsible for ensuring that families have access to the right kind of support, both within sessions, and from external organisations, from food banks to Family Hubs.
Since 2014, we’ve been working to make Kitchen Club more effective and establish a clear model for what ‘good’ looks like. The Kitchen Club Programme Manager will play a key role in continuing to drive improvement. We’re looking for someone who is ambitious about what can be achieved within our existing frameworks, but who is also able to contribute new ideas to enhance reach and impact, working closely with the Chief Executive to take our work to the next level.
Whoever joins our small but committed team will have the opportunity to make a vital difference for families who face significant and complex challenges.
Summary of key responsibilities
· Lead and support a diverse team of staff and volunteers to deliver high quality Kitchen Club sessions across up to 6 settings per week
· Ensure processes to recruit new families are effective, including outreach and referrals-in
· Liaise with senior contacts in key partner organisations
· Represent the Parent Club CIO, and the interests of Kitchen Club families, in policy and practice forums in Hackney and more widely
· Work with the Chief Executive and trustees to develop the 5-year strategic plan
About you

Head of Fundraising & Partnerships 2024
Body & Soul is a thought leading organisation in frontline health and wellbeing and we are seeking exceptionally passionate and skilled people to lead our Fundraising & Partnerships team.
Body & Soul is a multi-award-winning organisation with a mission is to transform trauma across the life course. Our unique therapeutic and community-based programmes engage thousands of members of all ages in programmes including the RSPH award-winning 'You Are Not Alone' (Suicide Prevention Service), Body & Soul Families (Adoption Support) and Body & Soul HIV Support Programmes for children, young people and families.
Before you go any further…
Body & Soul works with marginalised communities and issues that do not attract mass support, awareness or funding, which is why we are here. It’s not the easy-end of the charity sector and not for faint-hearted. We are all campaigners alongside our formal roles, challenging stigma, racism and power that impacts our community and prevents access to resources that can transform adversity.
There are benefits if working here, but they are not the usual package of remote working, holiday allowance or pension schemes. What we have full access to is a working environment and community where you will be valued, respected and made to feel a part, rather than small cog in a machine. You will have full access to a rich learning culture that enhances our team’s wellbeing and an absolute sense of identity and purpose. You will hear inspiring stories and the people behind them, every single day. Then there’s the food, but we will tell you more about that another time….
At the Heart of the Charity
The work of our organisation is not just about the frontline. We believe Fundraising and Partnerships is part of a crucial operational set-up that is very much at the centre of our work at Body & Soul. Our mission drives us to constantly develop our model and design cutting-edge services for communities whose needs are often unseen or underserviced. We have the vision of health that looks beyond the diagnosis and fully understands the importance of ‘what has happened to people’, not ‘what is wrong with them’.
Fundraising and Partnerships is the pipeline that provides the stability and confidence in our services that our members need so much.
Fundraising works hand in hand with service research, design & development. The Fundraising and Partnerships Manager skillfully translates our model into compelling proposals that communicate a progressive, effective approach to health. The combination of a rich heritage, proven impact, a vibrant brand and a culture of innovation, makes this an incredibly rich environment in which to work.
Qualities
Passion: This role is made for an accomplished professional who is passionate about addressing some of the most marginalised health issues of our time. We want to work with people who are motivated to be part of challenging the conventions of healthcare that exclude minority communities and fail to effectively address the complex roots of so many current health issues. We need open minds and passion for change!
Communication: We also require the communication skills to translate our strong values and philosophy into inspiring and achievable project proposals. You’ll be skilled and experienced in your grant-writing but equally able to translate this into a range of formats to meet your audience.
People-focused: At Body & Soul you need to be drawn towards people. Our community will be your inspiration on a daily basis. If you envisage a department far away from the ‘real work’, you could not be further from the reality here. This role is based amidst the real everyday work. Bringing together impact data for reports is a part of the role, but every day you’ll see evidence around you. Your ability to build relationships with a diverse range of funders will be fundamental to generating financial support in the most challenging of times.
Creativity: the way we see and understand health is unique. The way we think and embrace design, language and authentic compassion are, we believe, rare commodities in the sector. We are always looking to find creative ways to translate this way of working into inspiring proposals with real vision!
Broad shoulders: This job comes with responsibility and challenging targets. Our members have found our services to be both a lifeline and a key to a future very different to the past. It is true to say that they were unable to find this anywhere else. With this responsibility comes the enormous job-satisfaction of securing relationships that can enable us to help thousands more.
We pioneer a bold and revolutionary approach, harnessing science, community, and love to free people from the devastating effects of trauma.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
Medact organises with the health community to win a world in which everyone can truly achieve and exercise their human right to health. We cover some of the most pressing national and global threats to health and wellbeing including institutional racism; climate change; human rights abuses; violent conflict; and rising inequality. We’re a member-led organisation, and our members are made up of a range of people who work in health including nurses, doctors, midwives, and clinical researchers.
We take an organising-centred approach to our work. We build community power by working in solidarity with health workers and the communities experiencing harm from the unjust systems we challenge. We run national campaigns, use research to expose injustice, and we support local organising groups across the country who lead most of our work.
About the role
The Campaign and Programme Lead: Health & Human Rights leads Medact’s work coordinating the Patients Not Passports campaign, supporting health workers and migrant communities to bring an end to immigration checks and healthcare charging in the NHS. You will work in close partnership with the Access to Healthcare organiser at Migrants Organise, and with colleagues across Medact’s team.
The role involves holding Medact’s key knowledge base on health and human rights issues. This can cover migration and health, immigration detention, data-sharing and artificial intelligence in public services, and civil liberties issues. You will build relationships across the health community and wider human rights and migration spaces, from establishment institutions to frontline worker and grassroots groups.
At Medact we have a management structure, but we organise ourselves to minimise the impact of hierarchy and make use of everyone’s skills and expertise—being part of our team means taking an active role in strategic decisions.
About you
This isn’t an entry-level role but you don’t need to have had a job in an NGO before or be a professional campaigner to be right for it. You might have worked with your local community to campaign on a social justice or health issue that you care about. Or, you might be a health worker who has seen the impact of these issues on your patients and wants to challenge the systems that drive inequality and marginalisation. You might have been impacted by the hostile environment yourself and want to take action to change it.
You’ll have a strong understanding of power and how to work with others to create pressure for change. You need to be a great communicator, able to build trusting relationships with Medact members, academics, partner organisations and community groups. You’ll have an understanding of how digital communications compliment campaigning, an eye for a good media story and the know-how to get it out into the world.
Key dates
Closing date: Monday January 13th, 9am
Interviews: Tuesday January 28th
If needed, second interviews will be w/c 3rd February
Our recruitment principles
Medact aims to be an inclusive and supportive employer, and we recognise that recruitment processes don’t work for everyone. We acknowledge that people from certain backgrounds are under-represented in the NGO sector, and we’re committed to doing what we can to correct this. We welcome applications from people with marginalised identities or lived experience of the issues Medact works on. If you have any questions or uncertainties about this position, and whether you are right for it, please do get in touch!

Citizens UK
Citizens UK is the UK’s biggest, most diverse and most effective people-powered alliance. We bring communities and local organisations together to work on issues that matter; from campaigning for zebra crossings on dangerous roads, to reforming the immigration system, to the Living Wage campaign. We have a track record of winning change through hundreds of local and national campaigns. We know everyday people have the ability to shape the world around them. We believe that through developing local leaders, we can drive nationwide change and create community-led solutions to big and small problems.
Purpose
At Citizens UK, our organisers and project staff work within communities to develop leaders, strengthen organisations, campaign for change and organise across difference. There are various project roles and operational, communication, finance and HR roles that support the organisation and project staff and organisers to deliver on this mission and work. This work is rewarding and can be challenging; it requires a personal commitment to inclusion, a willingness to listen and disagree respectfully, and an interest in working in an organisation where our staff, member institutions and leaders will come from a diversity of backgrounds and often hold views that may be very different from our own. More information about how we operate within this context and build trusted relationships across difference can be found on our website and is covered in induction. Onboarding and navigating this relational culture, and type of work, is supported by line managers and further training.
We have a rich history of teams in our projects and campaigns successfully engaging with senior politicians - be that through developing longstanding relationships with local MPs or future City Mayors and Prime Ministers publicly committing to community-designed pledges. As a non-partisan organisation, engaging with politicians and decision-makers of all political colours is integral to the success of our leader-led campaigning. Much of our political engagement is driven by the institutions and the volunteer community leaders within them. All of CUK’s successes started there, in the powerbase of the community. Other aspects of our political engagement comes through our project- and campaign-specific work; for example around the real Living Wage or our refugee and migration work.
Part of a busy team of communications and campaigns specialists in a fast-paced department, this is an exciting opportunity to support CUK’s political engagement. As CUK has grown, we want to be more strategic and use broader tactics to engage with decision-makers. A key part of your role will be to support teams to connect and coordinate stakeholder relationships that are held across the organisation whilst also supporting chapters and projects to build capacity in public affairs, develop their strategies and engage locally. You will play a critical role in shaping our public affairs work through monitoring, bringing together intelligence and drafting policy briefings, as well as advising on the best course of action to engage with decision makers and win key campaigns.
The ideal candidate will be someone who is excited by maintaining our commitment to being led by the community and our local alliances and maximising their ability to win change. You’ll be a strong and patient communicator with the ability to build meaningful relationships internally and externally, with brilliant instincts for how to take complex issues and translate them into engaging tactics. You’ll be politically savvy with a detailed knowledge of the workings of government and parliamentary procedure as well as a working knowledge of the devolved administrations. You’ll ideally already have experience working as part of a team to deliver campaign results on a national and local level and be excited by the breadth of work that Citizens UK does.

Our 550 member communities are deeply rooted in their local areas and connect every day to the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Through the method of community organising we enable people experiencing powerlessness to develop their leadership and come together with the power and strategy to make change.
This leads to hundreds of neighbourhood improvements - from zebra crossings outside primary schools to renovated public toilets in cemeteries. And it leads to some of the biggest campaign impacts in the UK, such as winning over £2 billion of wages through the UK Living Wage campaign, securing a legal cap on the cost of credit to control exploitative lending, and ending the detention of children for immigration purposes. We enable local campaigns to grow into large-scale social change projects such as the Living Wage Foundation, Parent Action, Sponsor Refugees, and Refugees for Justice, that form an integral part of our theory of change. The most prominent of these is the rapidly growing Living Wage Foundation with a network of over 13,000 accredited Living Wage Employers across the UK.
