The role is in our Digital team, which reports to the Chief Operating Officer, but since the website encompasses all aspects of our work from service delivery and information provision to PR and fundraising, this role works collaboratively with all teams.
Initially the role will help the team to plan the content workstream, agreeing roles, responsibilities, timescales and success measures. This role would work then as part of a cross-team editorial effort with key stakeholders to create the new webpages, keeping colleagues informed and engaged throughout the project. Once the site goes live, you would help with aftercare and making sure the site gets off to a good start, making any additional edits or new content as needed based on performance and feedback. Towards the end of the contract, post-launch, this role would help to upskill and support selected colleagues in other teams to take more hands-on responsibilities with website content creation and governance as part of a new, decentralised approach.
The ideal candidate will have strong planning, organisational and workflow management skills. They will also have proven experience of creating and adapting user-centred, engaging and successful content for websites – primarily including text, images and graphics, but also video – ensuring output answers its brief, supports brand and strategic objectives, and is fit for purpose, channel and audience.

About the role
We’re looking for a motivated, communicative, and knowledgeable Public Affairs Officer to join our Policy and Influencing Team, to help us achieve the positive change children and young people with cancer across the UK, and their families, need in the health system. This means amplifying the voices of young cancer patients and delivering evidence-based campaigns that make change happen.
The Public Affairs Officer is responsible for supporting the Policy and Influencing Team with public affairs expertise to deliver the key components of our influencing work in England and UK-Wide (Westminster). You will help us influence the system for children and young people with cancer and their families, so we can change experiences of having cancer and ensure children and young people’s voices are heard.
This role is subject to a criminal record check. In the event of a successful application a basic criminal record check will be completed.
This role is a hybrid role, with frequent in-person presence in London required. As a London-based role requiring frequent travel within London, the advertised salary is reflective of our London pay scale.

The Communications and Information Officer is responsible for our external communications, our social media channels, and maintaining and managing our website. Working mainly with colleagues from the Sector Support and Grants team initially, to raise awareness about the impact of our work as well as the work of the legal advice charities we support. As our Policy and Public Affairs Manager, you’ll lead impactful policy initiatives that align with our mission to end domestic abuse and to ensure support for the whole family, preventing harm, reducing risk and supporting recovery. About the position
This is an exciting and demanding role for an outstanding individual as the Freedom Fund seeks to deliver on its ambitious new strategic plan. Reporting to the CEO and working as part of the Freedom Fund’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the successful candidate will play a lead role in ensuring the organisation meets its strategic fundraising target by 2030. As a collaborative fund, fundraising and building long-term strategic partnerships is central to the mission of the Freedom Fund. The post holder will represent the Freedom Fund globally and lead the Freedom Fund’s engagement with private and government donors. They will also engage with anti-slavery organisations, corporates, policymakers and other relevant actors.
The Managing Director, External Relations will lead high performing Strategic Partnerships and Communications teams across the London and New York offices to advance the Freedom Fund’s global fundraising strategy, targeting governments, foundations, multilaterals, ultra-high net worth individuals, corporates and academic institutions internationally. The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating and stewarding high value relationships across sectors and geographies, and of leading a professional fundraising, grant management, events and communications operation.
The Managing Director, External Relations will be a global influencer and thought leader, championing and shaping agendas surrounding modern day slavery, and in particular the importance of working closely with frontline partners and survivor leaders. The Managing Director will be expected to speak and publish widely, champion and share best practices, and pursue innovative opportunities and connections for the CEO, and other key spokespeople.
Responsibilities
Fundraising and Communications
• Build on the Freedom Fund’s strong fundraising performance to date, take the lead on achieving the organisation’s new strategic fundraising target by 2030 as well as working with the SLT.
• Collaborate across the organisation to ensure development strategy and tactics are aligned with organisational priorities and funding needs.
• Ensure that comprehensive donor mapping and engagement strategies are in place across all sectors (ultra-high net worth individuals, trusts and foundations, governments, etc) and geographies, working together with the Head of Strategic Partnerships.
• Support and 'deploy' the CEO and other colleagues to engage with and ensure coherent messaging with donors on all levels and across all areas of interaction.
• Maintain an overview of the entire funding pipeline for all donors, including cultivation, proposals/bids, fund and grant management and donor servicing/reporting and compliance.
• Review financial and organisational management processes and policies - in close collaboration with the other SLT members - with a view to ensuring their compatibility with donor requirements, proposing reforms as needed.
• Develop and deliver future fundraising strategies in collaboration with the Head of Strategic Partnerships and with input from the wider Strategic Partnerships team.
• To champion and oversee the Freedom Fund’s communications, working together with the Head of Communications.
External Engagement and Events
• As an ambassador for the organisation, represent the Freedom Fund to key current and prospective donors; other external audiences and partners and in key forums as required. This includes both formal and informal presentations such as making speeches and attending conferences and other meetings as necessary.
• Actively engage with and build relationships with donors, corporations, governments and other relevant high-level actors.
• Ensure that the Freedom Fund participates in relevant conferences, convenings, meetings and other discussions relevant to our mission and our fundraising objectives.
• Build and maintain relationships with anti-slavery organisations, private and government donors, corporates, policymakers and other relevant actors.
• Share and leverage evidence, engage directly with key stakeholders, cultivate and leverage champions, publish across influential platforms.
• Help shape global agendas surrounding modern day slavery, and in particular the importance of working closely with frontline partners and survivor leaders.
Strategic Leadership, Governance and Operational Management
• Work with SLT colleagues to develop and deliver on strategic plans for the organisation.
• Engage with the Freedom Fund’s Board members including through Board and Board sub-committee meetings.
• Develop and deliver on operational plans and participate in the organisational budgeting process.
• Report on fundraising and communications progress at quarterly Board meetings.
• Lead three direct reports, Head of Communications (oversees a team of 3), Head of Strategic Partnerships (oversees a team of 7) and Operations Manager.
• Collaborate with the CEO to ensure their external engagement efforts support the greater development and partnerships strategy.
• Ensure there is a close and effective working relationship with all other Freedom Fund departments.
• Oversee and run the New York office, supported by the Executive Assistant to the Managing Director, External Relations.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
• Proven ability to win multi-million £ / $ fundraising commitments from governments, foundations, corporates and high net worth individuals.
• Enthusiasm for the Freedom Fund’s mission to raise significant funding for its anti-slavery work.
• Ability to clearly and powerfully articulate and communicate the organisation’s mission and work.
• Senior NGO, government or corporate management experience.
• At least 10 years senior level fundraising experience - with significant anti-slavery, human rights or international development experience highly desirable.
• Business-oriented with a market-based, metrics-driven approach to funding and organisational management.

Bringing together your knowledge and experience engaging with various stakeholders, you will effect change by identifying opportunities to influence decision-making, analyse data to develop policy positions for the organisation, contribute to consultation submissions and provide advice on various policy matters.
Advocacy is one of our three strategic pillars within our current organisational strategy, together with reach and research. It sits within the wider Advocacy and Communications Team which supports the promotion of all areas of our work across various channels: websites, social media, press and PR, marketing and digital advertising. As the role is primarily customer-facing, the SRO is based at the rehoming centre. However, they spend a portion of their time in local communities. About the role
We’re looking for a case study officer to join our talented and ambitious press, PR and celebrity team.
The successful candidate will support all elements of the charity’s case study function including recruiting and engaging new individuals with the charity who are willing to share their personal experiences of breast cancer to support our work and managing and nurturing key relationships day-to-day so they have the best possible experience when supporting the charity.
A key element of the role will be supporting colleagues in the press, PR and celebrity team to identify and seize opportunities for case studies to share their experiences to raise awareness of breast cancer, Breast Cancer Now and how we’re here for anyone affected by this devastating disease.
You’ll will work with teams across the organisation to support them in sharing the voices of people affected by breast cancer through their work. Liaising closely with colleagues to understand where case study support is required, you’ll identify the people who, through sharing their personal experiences, can best support activities to deliver on charity objectives. Key to this will be gathering the relevant insight and identifying ways we can engage case studies with our work in a way that’s mutually beneficial.
About you
You’ll have a good understanding of issues impacting people affected by breast cancer. With this you’ll have an awareness of, sensitivity to and ability to adapt to their changing needs and circumstances and how this might impact their ability or wish to support the charity’s work.
When engaging individuals with sharing their story to support us, you’ll approach this work with professionalism, sensitivity and care at all times, being sure to identify opportunities bring about mutual benefit for both parties.
Handling sensitive information appropriately at all times is key to this role, and requires you to have a knowledge of GDPR regulations and a commitment to[VS3] following Breast Cancer Now’s compliance and confidentiality regulations. You’ll also be proficient in using CRM tools to store and record interactions and sensitive data relating to supporters.
A strong verbal and written communicator with high levels of organisation, you’ll be prompt in responding to supporters and colleagues appropriately and with clear and accurate information. You will also be a quick learner and work well as part of a fast-paced press, PR and celebrity team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Digital Marketing Strategy

- Engagement
- Develop and nurture relationships with the Construction media, Industry membership bodies and worshipful companies ensuring meaningful interactions and positive experiences.
- Identify and build long lasting relationships with media outlets, drafting press releases and securing media coverage.
- Aim to be the Construction charity of choice at media and association events.
- Mange CRASH’s attendance at such events and look to drive increased revenue from attendance at industry events.
- Content Creation & Management:
- Create and distribute engaging content for charity projects and promotional materials across various channels, including social media, email, newsletters, website, press releases and marketing materials ensuring alignment with brand values and organisational goals.
- Attend project visits with the projects team to help create story content.
- Lead on content scheduling and publishing, ensuring messages are timely and relevant.
- Create and maintain a content calendar that supports key campaigns, events, and organisational priorities.
- Data Analysis, Reporting & Trend Monitoring

Power for Democracies is a new international pro-democracy research initiative with a mission to protect and strengthen liberal democracies around the world. Our goal is to identify the most relevant and effective pro-democracy projects by civil society organisations in the context of current and emerging threats to democracies.
Power for Democracies identifies these projects by systematically synthesising and analysing existing research and, where necessary, conducting and commissioning new research. We aim to publish recommendations that private and institutional donors, as well as civil society actors, can use to decide how and where to allocate their limited resources to best serve democracies.

Your responsibilities as the Head of Communications:
- Help position Power for Democracies as the "go to" evidence-based research and evaluation entity in the pro-democracy field with relevant stakeholders, donor groups, networks, institutions, and civil society spaces.
- Recruit and build the small communications team in charge of Power for Democracies’ communication and distribution formats, channels, and tools.
- Develop Power for Democracies' outreach and dissemination strategies (in close collaboration with the Knowledge + Research team) to gain meaningful attention from experts, the pro-democracy space, and donors alike.
- Develop effective media and communication formats that best address the needs of our target groups (websites, white papers, podcast/videocast features, talks etc.).

- In collaboration with our research experts, develop and plan our publication formats and oversee the Power for Democracies publishing calendar.

What you bring:
- At least 6-10 years' practical experience in communications, media, publishing/editing or fundraising, including substantive experience in or for a research institution, think tank, science editorial team or equivalent.
- At least two years in a senior role and solid experience of working with teams of content producers and publishing content on time.
- A solid and nuanced understanding of the relevant spaces and stakeholders.
- Experience in developing media, communication and distribution strategies tailored to highly specific audiences to ensure we select and develop the most effective communication and distribution channels.
