Age UK is currently recruiting for a part-time Senior Media Officer to join our established Media and Public Relations team.
We are looking for an experienced PR professional to develop and implement PR strategies that build the profile of the organisation and its brand with a focus on national consumer media activity - supporting the Charity's work across Brand Campaigns, Fundraising initiatives and National Services. The role, working 21 hours per week, will also support the PR team's activity in general which spans the organisation's work and that of its subsidiaries, including Age International.
As this is a job share opportunity, please ensure that you can work Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays before you apply.
This is a hybrid role, a blend of home based and office working. The linked office is in the City of London, and you will be required to attend this office regularly for team meetings. This role will include regular days working from our London office. Travel costs to the London office are the responsibility of the postholder and are not covered by the charity.
There is also a requirement to take part in the media & PR team's out of hours on-call rota, which includes evenings, weekends and on bank holidays. Salary advertised is FTE, Actual - £22,093 - £24,418
Must haves:
* Proven experience of fundraising PR and corporate partnership PR
* Proven experience of working in a fast-moving PR environment.
* Strong knowledge of the various media outlets and media landscape including experience of working with and generating coverage in national newspapers, broadcast TV, consumer magazines, online and podcasts. This includes:
a. Track record of delivering high-quality national news and consumer media coverage
b. Strong network of contacts at national consumer and news media titles
c. Ability to proactively gather and create engaging content outside of the news agenda and turn internal brand and fundraising initiatives into newsworthy media coverage.
* Experience of working with and managing relationships with a variety of external
* stakeholders, including corporate partners, national media, beneficiaries and celebrity agents and publicists.
* Experience of working in a complex internal environment, of working collaboratively with internal stakeholders and working on cross-divisional initiatives.
* Proven experience of how to promote fundraising initiatives, mass-participation events and other organisational activities across a wide range of media.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write press releases and high-quality copy for a range of audiences.
* Proven experience of good negotiating and influencing skills and ability to work collaboratively with a range of internal stakeholders and across internal boundaries.
* Proven experience of good organisational and planning skills in a PR role with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage competing demands and work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

* Agility and versatility - work across different PR areas of the organisation (outside of this role's remit) when required, understanding which activities to prioritise and being able to do so in a fast-paced environment.
* Experience of developing, planning and execution of a PR stunt that has generated impactful media coverage.

We are recruiting a new Public Affairs Manager to develop and lead our public affairs work at ARUK. The Public Affairs Manager will report to the Senior Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager.
In this role you will be joining a friendly and fast-moving Policy and Public Affairs team, with the scope to grow both the function and your role within ARUK. You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation to drive influence and impact with policy-makers in government, parliament and the wider political arena to make a difference for people affected by dementia and their families.
You will play a key role in a creative and dynamic team and will take initiative to work on projects and initiatives that maximise our impact with key decision makers. The role may include work in London and elsewhere in the UK.
Main duties and responsibilities of the role:
Public Affairs
· Supervise a programme of parliamentary engagement for the organisation.
· Ensure ARUK has a meaningful role in shaping future legislation on dementia, healthcare and scientific research.
· Lead responses and briefings on key legislation and guidance, including proposed drafting of amendments where appropriate.
· Take a leading role in our government relations work including building and maintain relationships with key government stakeholders including Ministers, SPADs and civil servants.
· Co-ordinate parliamentary briefs, develop submissions for parliamentary questions, Select Committees and other opportunities presented through the parliamentary system.
· Work with campaigns, communications and brand colleagues to build our reach and engagement with key audiences ensuring we are using a range of channels to influence our key audiences.
· Ensure our public affairs work reflects the needs and aspirations of people living with dementia and identify opportunities to involve our supporters in our political influencing work.
· Work with team to develop and implement Public Affairs products, processes and ways of working to maximise impact and efficiency.
· Ensure the Public Affairs team is delivering timely monitoring and successfully identifying, creating and leveraging parliamentary opportunities and securing influencing opportunities to achieve policy change.
· Ensure appropriate system of tracking engagement is in place and ensure the Public affairs Team are updating it regularly.
· Provide regular updates and advice to the team, senior staff and wider organisation so they are up to date on our advocacy, engagement with key stakeholders and wider changes in the environment.
· Ensure regular evaluation of our engagement and a constructive approach is taken to how we learn and improve.
Influencing
· Work with the Senior Public Affairs and Campaigns Manager to implement and further develop ARUK’s external affairs strategy, working with policy colleagues to ensure an aligned public affairs function that delivers on our influencing goals.
· Work with wider department to devise and deliver influencing plans for priority areas, ensuring PA involvement in strategy development from the outset.
Stakeholder management
· Work across the organisation to develop stakeholder management processes and mechanisms that help us to manage and derive insights from key organisational relationships.
· Play a key role in developing ARUK's influencing stakeholder contact programme and identifying opportunities and strategies to improve engagement.
· Build effective personal relationships with other organisations, political parties, parliamentarians and their offices across both Houses and relevant Government departments.
· Ensure the team are effectively managing relationships and tracking stakeholder information, and key stakeholders are informed of relevant media stories, reports and consultation responses etc.
· Identify opportunities to partner with other organisations in order to maximise our impact as an organisation.
· Deliver expert political insight and sense making to help the team and wider organisation navigate the external environment.
· Represent ARUK at parliamentary and other events and conferences, potentially including national party conferences.
· Co-ordinate and attend meetings with parliamentarians and stakeholders alongside senior staff and to provide briefings for staff.
Management Responsibilities
· Oversee the work of two public affairs officers and contribute to their learning and development.
· Provide guidance, coaching and support to wider team development as required.

Main duties and responsibilities of the role:
Management and collaboration
· Lead and manage your team effectively, embodying ARUK’s leadership values. This includes holding regular 1:1s, providing constructive feedback, managing workloads, and supporting training and development needs.
· Build strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues in Policy and Public Affairs, as well as other senior thought leaders within ARUK and the broader dementia community.
· Actively contribute to the press office by handling in-hours and out-of-hours media requests.

External communication

· Collaborate with the Social Media team to enhance public and priority audience engagement with the charity’s policy and public affairs initiatives.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists and media outlets that connect with key audiences for Policy and Public Affairs.
· Work closely with the Head of Policy and Public Affairs and Executive leadership team to identify ways to use their voices to raise the charity’s external profile on key political issues.
Messaging and copy development
· Work collaboratively with the Policy and Public Affairs Departments to develop communications campaigns and messaging around key issues, informed by quantitative and qualitative research, where possible.
· Develop topic briefs to equip media spokespeople and ambassadors with clear and consistent messaging on key issues.
· Provide high-quality copywriting and editing for reports, web content, social media, and marketing materials for campaigns and events.
Event support
· Oversee communications and branding for key events, including parliamentary engagements, roundtables, and other high-profile activities as needed.
Internal communications
· Support teams internally in talking confidently and consistently about strategic policy and campaigning issues to their audiences.

About the role
We want to reach and support more people with heart and circulatory conditions, helping them feel informed, empowered, and understood.
As a Health Editor you’ll play a key role in the production of our award-winning Heart Matters magazine, creating and editing high-quality written and video content to support people with heart conditions.
You will generate ideas and produce high-quality, engaging and accurate content with a clear user focus.
You’ll work with key internal and external stakeholders and identify ways to make the best and most efficient use of content across the BHF website, publications and booklets, ensuring the people who need our support are at the heart of everything we do.
Working arrangements
This is fixed term contract until 26 Sep 2025 covering a secondment.
This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.
At the BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on blended contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, at least one day each week, on average. The use of our office spaces is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do. This may vary from time to time, so you will need to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause.

About you
You will have strong previous experience of writing, editing, subbing and proofreading content for a varied audience, as well as generating impactful ideas using audience insight and SEO techniques.
A strong leader, you’ll have an attention to detail to eliminate ambiguity and will have excellent written communications skills able to articulate ideas, thoughts and engage in the decision-making process.
You will also have a good knowledge of best practice in health information production and health and science issues, especially relating to heart and circulatory disease and long-term conditions.
