The Degrees Initiative is a UK-based NGO that builds the capacity of developing countries to evaluate solar radiation modification (SRM), a controversial proposal for reducing some impacts of climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the Earth. Degrees is neutral on whether SRM should ever be used, but we believe that developing countries should be empowered to conduct their own research and to play a central role in SRM discussions. The initiative has been working in different forms for over a decade and our work receives worldwide coverage and widespread acclaim. 

Degrees’ programmatic work builds capacity through research grants, workshops, and community-building—all of these across the Global South. The initiative has been steadily growing since becoming a charity, and we plan on continuing to expand. Over the next few years, Degrees will offer grants to research teams in new countries and disciplines, support the scientists as they develop into regional leaders, and keep building a global community of experts.

The Programmes Director role offers a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to advance while helping scale-up the organisation’s work. They will get to work with some the world’s leading SRM experts both inside and outside of Degrees and play a central role in building an initiative that is changing the field of SRM.  

The programme Manager (maternity cover) will play an important role in supporting the implementation of Good Neighbours UK (GNUK)’s strategy and ensuring that projects led by GNUK and implemented by field countries are managed effectively and efficiently. They will also play in important role in designing new projects. 

Excellent writing and verbal communications skills are critical for this role. Key to its success is the ability to develop and maintain good relationships with funders, partner organisations and other Good Neighbors alliance members.

This is a full-time fixed term maternity cover role for 8 months starting in January 2025. We will consider applications from individuals interested in a freelance contract.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Project management

• Support GNUK’s fundraising team to prepare funding proposals for UK and overseas projects.

o Undertake field/needs assessments for projects.

o Ensure programmes and finance teams in implementing partners are working together to develop budgets and logframes in a timely manner for funding proposals and advise on multi-project cost effective strategies to cover country budgets.

o Manage due diligence and MoUs with implementing partners

• Manage the implementation and monitoring of overseas projects ensuring project activity plans and risk registers are in place, monitor activity progress, review field country financial and narrative reports, and track key milestone information.

• Ensure compliance with internal finance, accounting, procurement policies and procedures.

• Support and build the capacity building of field country grants and programmes staff in all aspects of project cycle management.

• Liaise with external organisations (NGOs, community groups, researchers and consultants) to deliver GNUK’s projects.

• Monitor project budgets and expenditure.

• Prepare periodic narrative and financial reports for GNUK and donors.

• Undertake periodic field visits for purpose of monitoring projects.

• Ensure project exit plans are in place and closure of projects in keeping with donors contracts.

Programme development:

• Contribute to the development of GNUK’s mid to long term strategy, 3-year business plan and annual work plans.

• Participate in GNUK’s annual budget development process.

• Support the implementation and monitoring of GNUK’s programme activities.

• Keep up to date on external changes to the economic, social and political context in the UK that could impact GNUK’s work.

• Support the organisational risk management process.

• Support the rollout of GNUK’s marketing/communications strategy.

• Liaise with GPC on project implementation and programming requests

• Prepare periodic reports for GPC and donors.

Safeguarding

• Ensure the role of Safeguarding focal point for GNUK

• Prepare GNUK’s annual safeguarding reports

• Support GN field countries and GNUK partners to develop and put in place safeguarding policies and procedures.

• Oversee the adoption and application of GNUK’s safeguarding policy in projects.

We are looking for an experienced project and programme manager with a passion for public dialogue to support and deliver work on technology futures and public dialogue.

An overview of the opportunity 

Reporting to the Head of Talent and Leadership Development, we are looking for a customer-focused, organised, forward thinking and creative Programme Manager to join us and drive our mission of cross-sector collaboration.

WIG was founded on secondments, and as such, they continue to play a hugely important role in our vision for a country where leaders collaborate for the common good. As leaders second in and out of organisation's, so too does knowledge sharing and porosity which enables strong decision making and improved collaboration. You will be responsible for managing the Charity Next Secondment Programme ( a collaborative partnership between the Civil Service Fast Stream and Charities, Not for Profit's and Academia) working collaboratively to maximise secondment engagement between the sectors. You will also manage inwards secondments to member organisations as well as working on and developing new concepts, programmes and solutions to maximise porosity and knowledge sharing. You will work closely with other departments and the wider team to develop and increase both the volume and impact of secondment initiatives. You will do this by leveraging your data-driven and research approach as well as evidencing your strong relationship and stakeholder development skills.

What we’re looking for: 

• Prior experience as a programme manager, project manager or similar, client-facing role with a demonstrable track record of excellent customer service. 
• Prior experience in internal and external stakeholder management and proven ability to build rapport and liaise with senior stakeholders. 
• Demonstrable experience in delivering successful and effective business development strategies - with strong outcomes. 
• A successful track record of using CRM systems (a plus if it's Dynamics!), Microsoft Forms, and other software applications to help aid decision making, keep on track of KPIs and to ensure strong project management and outcomes. 
• Demonstrable aptitude in managing administration and processes including the signing of secondment agreements, onboarding meetings, feedback cycles and regular communication strategies.
• Demonstrable history of meeting deadlines and the ability to oversee several different projects simultaneously. 
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a successful track record of building rapport and liaising with senior stakeholders. 
• Exceptional organisational skills and impeccable attention to detail. 
• Whilst not mandatory, it would be a huge plus if you displayed an interest in current affairs, contributing to a well-rounded and informed professional perspective. 
• Prior experience of working to budgets, KPIs and forecasted elements of work. 
• Strong teamwork - picking up other elements of work as required from the Talent & Leadership team as well as other interdepartmental bodies. 
• A strong self-driven attitude and results orientated attitude - having a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality output, ability to solve problems and work calmly under pressure. 
• Prior experience of operating in the leadership, talent experience would be desirable but is not essential.

What do some of the main role responsibilities look like? 

• Working closely with the Head of Talent and Leadership Development; own the management and delivery of all WIG secondment programmes, including Charity Next, advertised inwards secondments and other secondment programmes and knowledge exchange initiatives both in train, and those that are yet to be developed.

AKF(UK) Partnerships Managers are part of the Global Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) Partnerships team tasked with identifying and cultivating new funding partnerships and strengthening existing ones to support our strategic goals. They engage with European and Asian government, foundation, and corporate donors to mobilise resources for ten multisector profit and not-for-profit agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) operating across Asia and Africa. In addition, Partnership Managers are responsible for a portfolio of select grants implementing across AKDN themes and geographies in close collaboration with field units, global teams, and our partners.

4. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND CORE TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

4.1 Securing resources

• Coordinate, facilitate, and lead the development, review, and quality assurance of expressions of interest, concept notes and full proposals for funding opportunities;
• Liaise and coordinate with internal stakeholders as well as with donors, partners, and consortia to facilitate project design, align proposal and donor requirements, gather required legal and administrative documentation, and draft sections of proposals as needed;
• Coordinate processes of contracting and negotiation, engaging relevant stakeholders, and ensuring contracts ‘get over the line’ in a timely and efficient way;
• When needed, provide direct hands-on support at field level in design of concept notes, proposals, and budgets and conduct donor or field visits to support discussions with new and existing donors/partners;
• Contribute to management systems, such as the Award Information Management System (AIMS).

4.2 Grant management

• Manage and monitor a portfolio of grants through regular interface and coordination with AKF(UK)’s partnerships team, AKF(UK)’s finance team and relevant AKF/AKDN agencies/field units, acting as a central resource for field units in donor best practice;
• Interface with donors and communicate on a regular basis about the implementation of on-going grants to ensure strong, enduring relationships;
• Ensure strong relationship cultivation throughout the grants cycle, anticipate, and plan for future funding and project extensions;
• Oversight, coordination, review, and quality assurance of donor deliverables (e.g. work plans, monitoring and evaluation plans, staffing plans, budgets, close-out plans, donor troubleshooting);
• Ensure adherence with donor requirements, rules, and regulations, and that grant deliverables are produced on time and to a high standard;
• Coordinate contractual amendments, changes, and project adaptations, engage with donors in a pro-active and diplomatic way, and flag potential changes (e.g. budget revisions, extensions, risks) in advance to ‘trouble shoot’ and ensure smooth project implementation;
• Facilitate grant monitoring efforts including routine coordination meetings, donor steering committees, donor project visits, and donor monitoring missions;
• Undertake coordination and administrative tasks related to grants and support the maintenance and update of grant management tools and tracking systems such as AIMS.

4.3 Donor engagement and positioning

• Support the partnership unit in researching, sourcing relevant information, and performing analysis of market trends on new donors, peer organisations, and funding opportunities to identify potential funding and partnering matches for AKF and AKDN priorities;
• Work with country teams, AKDN agencies, and the Global Programmes Team (GPT) to identify, build, and support strategic partnerships on aligned global and regional initiatives, innovations and themes with likeminded donors and partners;
• Develop positioning materials (e.g. presentations, capability statements, briefs, talking points), collaborating with communications teams, to enable effective donor engagement;
• Engage with new and existing donors and partners to identify solicited and unsolicited funding opportunities;
• Guide teams to make informed, effective decisions on which opportunities to pursue (including ‘Go No-Go’ requests);
• Identify, cultivate, and pre-position with partner organisations to form or join consortia focused funding bids;
• Conduct due diligence on new partners in coordination with finance and partnerships teams.

4.4 Influencing development and communicating practical lessons and results

• Support the influencing of the development sector by convening and participating at events (e.g. conferences, roundtables, policy forums) to share lessons, innovations and knowledge about our programmes that position us as ‘thought leaders’;
• Engage communications teams to identify opportunities and support the development of content (e.g. social media campaigns, videos) that promote AKF and AKDN’s work and position us as ‘partners of choice’ in the sector. Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Deputy Regional Director of Partnerships or Regional Director of Partnerships.

• Experience in developing and writing donor proposals and arguments, business cases, concept papers, briefs, executive summaries, as well as coordinating multiple inputs from a variety of sources, and simultaneously managing a variety of relationships;
• Experience developing budgets and business plans;
• Proven success in managing grants in complex organisations with numerous stakeholders.

About the role

Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a significant public health issue in Mali, including Trachoma, Lymphatic Filariasis, Onchocerciasis, Schistosomiasis, and soil-transmitted helminths. These diseases, linked to poverty and poor hygiene, cause serious morbidity and social discrimination, hindering socio-economic development. The Finance Assistant will support the implementation of WHO guidelines for NTD elimination and control, contributing to strategic plans and ensuring compliance with local regulations. The role involves managing financial records, logistics, and IT equipment, as well as supporting grant management and collaboration between finance and programme teams. Additionally, the Finance Assistant will help implement HR policies and ensure statutory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Ensure good collaboration with partners (INGOs, MoH, and Regional Health Directorates).
• Ensure routine data collection into organisational templates.
• Participate in key meetings and keep technical notes of each.
• Support national programmes in the finalisation of various reports and their archiving.
• Support national NTD programmes to implement activities according to required standards.
• Plan and play an active role in the supervision and monitoring of project activities.
• Submit reports of field activities as well as success stories.
• Support the writing of first drafts of Annual Project Reports (APRs).

The Opportunity   

The Aspiring Professionals Programme Coordinator (APPC) role will be well-suited to someone who is focused on the best ways they can help the aims of the charity as well as those of our participants and partners. An APPC is responsible for supporting the delivery and development of the Social Mobility Foundation’s programme of activities for young people through their S5-6/sixth form and university years.   

The SMF offers in-person and online support and opportunities, so this role will involve providing virtual and in-person support to students and working with employers across the UK.

1. Achieving Results 

• Organising, supporting and delivering skills sessions, partner events, university trips, both in person and virtually across SMF cities and other parts of the UK. 
• Coordinating logistics for virtual and in-person events, including content creation, securing venues and speakers, producing webinars and video calls, advertising events, collating attendee lists and compiling feedback/evaluation 
• Coordinating logistics of 6F/S5-6 and undergraduate internships, including but not limited to, internship advertising and student selection, liaising with students and employers throughout internship delivery, and compiling student feedback/evaluation 
• Collaborating with SMF STAR Support partners to support the young people on our programme in their applications for internships and graduate roles 
• Assisting with the organisation and delivery of in-person residential programmes for students from across the country

About the Team

The Programme Management Team, where the Senior Programme Manager (SPM) role sits, is part of the Programme Partnership department, which objective is to increase the quality of Save the Children's work through the design and delivery of impactful programmes and partnerships, strengthening the Movement, and empowering Country Offices (CO).

The Programme Management Team provides support to Save the Children country programmes in the quality management of programmes funded via Save the Children UK (SCUK). The team provides both a second-line quality assurance function, whilst aiming to strengthen the capacity of in-country teams in the effective management of SCUK's portfolio. The team operates as Save the Children UK's programmatic and geographic experts, providing advice and insight to the wider organisation on country contextual issues and maintaining strong relations with country and regional counterparts as well as our institutional, corporate and philanthropy donors.

About the role

The Senior Programme Manager (SPM) primary focus is to oversee the quality management of programmes and related awards (grants & contracts) that are part of a portfolio covering several COs or donors. The portfolio under the SPM's overall responsibility is a sub-set within our Western and Central Africa team.  

This role involves both direct management of programmes and related awards implemented in specific country programmes or supported by particular corporate & philanthropy donor(s); and providing direction, support and technical advice to Programme Managers (PMs) working in the same portfolio sub-set. The SPM works with wide autonomy and decision-making capacity, both within their directly management portfolio as well as the portfolio sub-set, with regards to portfolio's risks, issues, and workload management.

Being responsible for several COs or corporate & philanthropy donors, the SPM plays a key role, and works very closely with the Programme Management Lead in the effective development and implementation of regional and partnership strategies; in identifying and addressing systemic risks and issues; in improving and creating new internal processes; and in ensuring the capacity building and professional development of PMs

In this role, you will: 

Support to quality & impactful programming in Country Offices

• Develop strong a knowledge of in-country context and current issues, as well as of Save the Children's key programmatic themes and priorities, for the countries or programmes under their directly managed portfolio. Provide input to the Programme Management Lead and influencing SCUK funding strategies for the countries or programmes under their portfolio.
• Act as the point of reference within SCUK for any matter or question regarding the countries or programmes under their responsibility. Liaise with other SCUK teams on relevant areas of concern, particularly fostering close collaboration with staff in P&P, PQI, HD, Media and Communication and PAC.
• Contribute to the growth of COs funding portfolio and facilitate this is in line with their Country Strategic Plans (CSPs), by leading and working closely with the other teams in PP Strengthen and build capacities of CO staff, in coordination with the relevant SCI  teams, particularly around quality programming and funding management and donor compliance.
• Develop a strong knowledge of donor's priorities and interests in the country(ies) under their responsibility. Develop and maintain relevant donor relationships, serving as the focal point for HQ-level donor staff, for the countries or programmes under their directly managed portfolio.

Lead business development, award management and donor compliance assurance

• Monitor and oversight of all SCUK-supported programmes for the countries or programmes under their directly managed portfolio, including identifying related risks and managing issues.
• Grant and contract management, from point of contract negotiation and signature, to quality assurance during implementation, and working with other SCUK departments to support reporting. Ensure awards in the portfolio are compliant with donor requirements and SC quality standards
• Provide support to COs in meeting key programme deliverables, as well as other donor expectations.
• Ensure relevant quality assurance processes are completed so that programmes are running effectively and on time.
• Identify new funding opportunities, as follow-on from existing awards and/or as part of the day-to-day interaction with donors. Provide input in or lead on bid management for SCUK institutional and non-institutional proposals
• Direct representation role with counterparts in SCUK, donor organisations, partner and NGO networks in relation to awards portfolio and pipeline.

Funding portfolio sub-set oversight

• Provide oversight, support and prioritisation for the management of the portfolio sub-set under their responsibility, acting as first point of senior advice and decision-making on complex issues, involving medium to low risk, brought forward by the PMs working in the same portfolio sub-set.
• Monitor risks and issues developments within the portfolio sub-set, making sure that the Programme Management Lead and PP senior management are aware and fully briefed of issues requiring major strategic decisions.
• Approve and sign-off opportunities and documents, as per delegated authority, within the portfolio sub-set.
• Provide input to the Programme Management Lead and ROs in resource mobilisation strategies for COs and donors within the portfolio sub-set, making sure that agreed priorities are implemented by PMs, as well as other teams, working in the portfolio sub-set.
• Monitor KPIs and other data related to programme and funding management, providing analysis to relevant stakeholders.

People management

• Provide effective and timely day-to-day support and manage workload for PMs working in the portfolio sub-set under the SPM's responsibility (‘work management'), as part of matrix management with the Programme Management Lead. Contribute to setting annual objectives and priorities and provide input in annual reviews.

About you

It is important that you have:

• Extensive experience in project and grant/contract management, with knowledge of institutional donor compliance requirements
• Extensive experience working with institutional donors such as FCDO, UN and multilateral agencies (e.g. UNICEF, OCHA, World Bank), particularly on proposal development and report writing.
• Experience in Payment by Result and/or Outcome based contracts an asset.
• Significant experience of working in the international aid sector, including in overseas roles, with practical experience and understanding of related contextual and operational issues. Good working knowledge of one or more countries supported by SCUK
• Strong working knowledge of international development/humanitarian issues.
• Significant financial processes and reporting skills
• Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different organisations, functions, and cultures, often remotely.
• Ability to manage a complex and varied workload, in order to organise and prioritise multiple tasks efficiently, manage reactive and proactive work, and deliver tasks to tight deadlines.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify and implement effective processes for achieving outcomes.
• Proven attention for detail and ability to effectively manage a high volume of data and information.
• Very strong team skills, with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and collaborate both within and outside the team
• Fluent in French & English (Speaking & writing) is essential

The Senior Programmes Manager: University Access will play a pivotal role in the University Access and Digital team, overseeing and managing the delivery of high-impact interventions, including UK Summer Schools, The Sutton Trust Fulbright US Programme and Teacher Champions, that support young people from underrepresented backgrounds in accessing highly selective universities. The role requires someone with a strong understanding of the barriers faced by young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and a commitment to supporting them in reaching their potential.

With strong project management skills, key responsibilities include managing the programme partnerships, overseeing the marketing and applications process, monitoring and evaluating the impact of our programmes, continuously refining processes for improvements, and ensuring that the evolving needs of the target demographic are met. Main duties

Ongoing Programme Management

• Leading on the day-to-day project management and delivery of the Trust’s Higher Education access programmes with oversight and support from senior staff, including UK Summer Schools, The Sutton Trust Fulbright US Programme and Teacher Champions.
• Oversee the performance of 12 UK universities delivering the Sutton Trust’s Summer School programmes, the US-UK Fulbright Commission, Causeway Education, and other external partners. This includes:
  • Managing partner performance against contractual obligations, including reporting and invoicing.
  • Building and maintaining effective and enduring relationships, including the onboarding and training of new partners.
  • Establishing a culture of collective learning through planning and delivery of events and best practice sharing.

• Overseeing the monitoring and evaluation of university access programmes in collaboration with external evaluation partners and internal teams; collating data and producing reports, ensuring the effective dissemination of findings and using these to refine programme design.
• Ensuring effective tracking, reporting, and management of programme data for university access. This includes using Salesforce (our CRM) for tracking partner performance, participant data, and programme outcomes.
• Managing programme budgets and reporting on financial status internally.

Programme innovation/development

• Proactively developing strategies to enhance programme delivery, ensuring programmes maintain their quality and reach, with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Managing the development, implementation, and evaluation of special projects designed to evolve and improve university access programmes. 
• Development and implementation of the school and teacher engagement strategy to support our programme aims and contributing to trust-wide strategy in this area, with support from senior leadership.

Person Specification
