About the role
As part of a team, this post will support the Policy, Public Affairs and Communications Manager to advance internal and external stakeholder communications and the development of, and public and political interest in, a more strategic approach to perpetrators of domestic abuse.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week.
Location: Bristol/London/remote, with occasional travel across UK.

Prostate Cancer Research (PCR) is a research and information provision charity that is dedicated to improving and saving the lives of people with prostate cancer. Patients are central to everything we do and drive our work. Our work covers four key areas:

Prostate Cancer Research (PCR) is seeking an experienced and insightful Senior Policy Adviser to lead the development of our policy work and help drive meaningful change for people affected by prostate cancer.
Reporting to the Head of Policy, Campaigns and Public Affairs, you will be responsible for shaping evidence-based policy positions, producing high-impact consultation responses, and identifying strategic opportunities to influence health and research policy. This is an exciting opportunity for a policy professional with strong analytical and writing skills, a solid understanding of the health policy landscape, and a desire to make a difference.
Key Responsibilities:

Policy Leadership: Lead the development of PCR’s policy positions across a range of health and research issues through in-depth research, evidence analysis and horizon scanning, identifying key issues affecting prostate cancer patients and developing robust solutions for systemic change.

Consultation and Inquiry Responses: Draft high-quality, persuasive responses to government consultations, select committee inquiries, and regulatory reviews, ensuring PCR’s positions are well-evidenced, compelling and grounded in insight from those with lived experience.

Health Technology Appraisals: Lead or contribute to PCR’s submissions to NICE and SMC technology appraisals, ensuring that our input is evidence-based, reflects the lived experience of patients, and aligns with our policy positions.

Stakeholder Insight and Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, healthcare professionals, government bodies, think tanks, sector bodies such as the AMRC, and other key stakeholders to inform PCR’s positions and stay at the front of policy thinking.

Political and Policy Monitoring: Track key policy developments and legislative changes relevant to prostate cancer, assessing their implications and identifying opportunities for PCR to engage.

Internal Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues across PCR, including research, communications, patient engagement and fundraising teams, to ensure a unified approach across policy and organisational priorities.

Briefings and Written Outputs: Deliver succinct, compelling, and well-evidenced policy briefings on key issues to a range of stakeholders, including policymakers, industry leaders, and partners.

About the role
We are looking for a Policy and Public Affairs Officer to join the team to work on an exciting new three-year project funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. As part of this project, you will work closely alongside our frontline partner Money Advice Plus to help take our influencing work to the next level in our mission to stop economic abuse forever.
The role of the Policy and Public Affairs Officer is to work closely with the Senior Policy and Public Affairs Manager and Head of Advocacy and Communications to develop viable, evidence-based policy solutions and deliver influencing plans to engage stakeholders from across parliament, the civil service, industry and charities to address economic abuse. Your focus will be on developing policy and influencing government on coerced debt – one of the most insidious yet devastating forms of economic abuse – to drive forward public and private sector responses. In this role, you will work collaboratively with our frontline partner Money Advice Plus and victim-survivors to ensure our policy and influencing work is grounded in women’s lived experiences of economic abuse.
You would be joining us at a significant moment as we launch our ambitious new three-year strategy. As part of this, we will build on our influencing work by ensuring victim-survivors’ voices are heard by the new Government to deliver lasting change.
About you
You will have experience in policy development, including undertaking research and analysing evidence to form credible evidence-based solutions and producing policy outputs like reports, consultation responses or briefings.
You will have strong public affairs skills, including excellent knowledge of parliamentary processes, sound political judgement, and proven ability to build support among a variety of stakeholders.
Your communication skills will be outstanding, with the ability to land complex messages clearly, concisely, and persuasively for different audiences both verbally and in writing.
You will have strong organisational skills and experience in organising events, like webinars or parliamentary roundtables. Your effective management of projects will interpersonal and organisational skills to get the best out of others, while navigating competing priorities with agility.
Knowledge of domestic, including economic, abuse and/or debt advice and policy responses is desirable.

Make a Change
Make a Change is a community-wide, early response approach to people using abusive behaviours (or who are concerned that they might be) towards a current or ex-partner. The model has been developed by Respect in partnership with Women’s Aid Federation England, drawing inspiration from their Change that Lasts approach. It includes three strands: expert support programme for perpetrators with parallel support for survivors, workforce development and community outreach.
Improving the safety, freedom and wellbeing of adult and child survivors of domestic abuse is a key outcome for our work with perpetrators. The Make a Change model is a multi-partner project offering local areas a framework for delivering perpetrator work. Where feasible, we aim to establish partnerships with local survivor domestic abuse service to deliver parallel support for survivors (referred to as Integrated Support Service) as part the expert support strand.
Purpose of the role:
The Senior Communications and Policy Officer will work with the Make a Change team at Respect to advance the development of communication and policy activities for the Make a Change model in project sites and nationally to encourage uptake in new areas. They will also work with Respect’s Communications and Influence leads to ensure alignment with the organisation's broader messaging and advocacy efforts, maximising the impact of Make a Change initiatives. The postholder will lead on developing and implementing communication strategies and plans in partnership with our delivery partners across the sites.

Founded in 1999, we provide free legal and investigative support to people facing the death penalty and those victimised by states’ abusive counter-terror policies – rendition, torture, arbitrary detention and extrajudicial killing.
We fight our clients’ cases in courts around the world; investigate their mistreatment; and advocate on their behalf, encouraging public and political debate of human rights issues.
Reprieve’s main office is in Aldgate, London, UK. Reprieve also supports full-time Fellows, who work as lawyers, investigators and campaigners in the countries in which we work. About the Role
The Head of Public Affairs and Policy is responsible for overseeing Reprieve’s political engagement and policy work; managing public affairs and policy focused staff; and steering forward advocacy and policy that advances Reprieve’s strategic objectives on behalf of our clients in all the jurisdictions where we operate.
Reprieve’s current policy goals in the UK include prohibiting intelligence sharing where there is a risk of torture or the death penalty, ensuring UK security assistance doesn’t contribute to human rights violations, and ending the practice of citizenship stripping. The role involves close collaboration with Reprieve’s regional and thematic casework teams to encourage states to restrict or end the use of the death penalty or involvement in other human rights abuses such as torture and arbitrary detention.
Reprieve’s work encompasses a number of regions across the world, including the Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, South East Asia, and the United States. The policy team provides cross-cutting support to those teams and local experts to advocate for our clients, secure political representation for them, and advance strategic goals.

Location, contract and salary
This is a full-time role, on a one-year fixed term contract, with the possibility to extend, subject to funding. The annual salary is £61,003 per annum, less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance.
This role is based in Reprieve’s London office. Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work 40% of their working hours from the London office and the rest of the week from home. Policy Manager (Paediatric Standards)

The Policy Manager (Paediatric Standards) is a crucial role at the College as you will lead the development of new paediatric service standards with College Officers, members and child health professionals, thinking afresh as to the standards needed to ensure children receive timely access to high-quality, safe and effective care in a changing health landscape.
As Policy Manager (Paediatric Standards) you will consult with the College’s membership, health systems across the UK and key decision makers in health service development and regulation, to form a credible, influential set of standards that will reap benefits for children and the child health workforce.
Reporting to the Head of Health Policy, you will establish and lead the project’s expert advisory group to generate a consensus on new standards, attending and contributing to Health Policy Committees and ensuring the project’s successful completion. Throughout the project you will also ensure the voice of children and young people is influential within the development of standards.
Whilst based in the Health Policy team, you will work collaboratively with colleagues in research and quality improvement to design a systematic review of literature to bring an evidence base to the scope of new standards development, all the while applying audit and quality improvement principles to the design and update of new paediatric standards.
You will also take responsibility for reporting on project milestones to Membership, Policy and External Affairs meetings and the College’s project portfolio boards, to identify, manage and mitigate project risks and issues.
Degree qualified and with relevant experience in a similar field of work such as standard setting, quality improvement or health policy, you will have demonstratable experience of understanding the critical role of quality standards within healthcare design, delivery and regulation (including quality improvement) across the UK.
With outstanding project management skills, evidenced by a recent and successful project, you will easily be able to identify, manage and mitigate risk.
You should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to understand and discuss complex issues. Your excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship management abilities as well as experience of working at a senior level with a broad range of stakeholders, will ensure you are able to take forward programmes of work.
A formal project management qualification and experience and knowledge of the children’s health sector would be desirable.
