How you will make a difference:
- Ensure effective two way communications are in place and teams are kept fully informed of national and local developments.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with professionals, referrers and stakeholders.
- Ensure effective liaison between service teams, service users and other professionals.
- Work with the team to deliver what is important to commissioners and the people they support to achieve recovery goals and service outcomes.
- Identify and enable meaningful opportunities for user involvement in shaping services.
- Manage the recruitment of staff as the selection panel leader, ensuring compliance with Recruitment & Selection policy and Equality legislation.
- Ensure that services are accessible and meet the needs of service users from a diverse range of backgrounds and are representative of the needs of local communities.
- Be the positive role model and coach, as lead practitioner providing expertise and guidance on practice issues to the team.
- You will be responsible for ensuring the assessment, recording and reviewing of our Outcome Focussed Support Planning and Risk Management Planning is embedded into practice.
Essential skills and experience required:
- Experience of managing and leading a team within a social care/care setting.
- Experience of providing support to people with a mental illness; or experience of providing care and/or support services within another social care setting in either a paid or voluntary capacity.
- Knowledge and understanding of recovery principles and embedding the ethos of recovery into your own practice.
- The ability to make a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s situation and needs; to develop, implement and review risk management plans and devise support plans to meet these needs.
- QCF Diploma or NVQ level 3 in Care or Certificate in Community Mental Healthcare (or working towards) or an equivalent qualification.

About the role
We are seeking a PR and Communications Manager to join our ambitious team. We know that incredible work goes on behind the scenes at Smart Works, and that what we do meaningfully helps to change the lives of thousands of women every year. But we need you to help us shout from the rooftops about our service and impact, actively seeking media opportunities and press coverage, to increase our public profile. Your work will make a real difference – spreading the Smart Works message not only to the women we exist to support, but fundraisers, referral partners, volunteers and the public too.
Duties and responsibilities
- You will amplify and lead existing integrated campaigns, including the Smart Works Unemployment Index, International Women’s Day and International Day of the Girl. With the support of the Digital Marketing Manager, Graphic Design Manager and Digital Communications Manager, you’ll ensure our campaigns are widely noticed and talked about, in the press, online and local community.
- You will develop and manage media opportunities (proactive and reactive), including owning our press office, writing and distributing press releases, building relationships with journalists, tracking coverage, and briefing spokespeople.
- You will lead and develop our Client Champions programme and case studies, ensuring the client remains central to the charity’s external voice, proactively seeking opportunities to tell their stories to encourage support/donations from external communities, and managing any nationwide communication moments/events.
- You will support our engagement with Patrons and Ambassadors, managing relationships where appropriate and seeking new advocates who can authentically help tell our story, to reach more people.
- You will lead the coordination of our internal communications calendar and reporting, working with internal stakeholders across Partnerships, Operations and our local centres to ensure that key moments are recognised, with support at a national level where appropriate.
- You will support with other team tasks, such as social media scheduling and content creation.

The successful candidate will report to our Director of Communications and Marketing. The role has no line management responsibility but will work closely with colleagues – including our Digital Marketing Manager, Digital Communications Manager and Graphic Design Manager – so you should be used to collaborating with others, in a dynamic environment.

- Proven experience in a PR, communications, or similar role, ideally within the charity.
- Demonstrable success in securing media coverage, developing and delivering PR plans, managing relationships, and working with ambassadors.
- Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills with excellent attention to detail, including when working with limited resource and/or under pressure.
- Ability to craft compelling stories, press releases and pitches.
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage and take responsibility for own workload, handle multiple priorities and to work independently.
- Both strategic and operational thinker.
- Excellent, proven project management and planning skills.

This is a key role within the Operations Department reporting directly to the Operations Director, and working closely with Finance and Communications (our fundraising and marketing function). Supporter Care aims to deliver exceptional service to our supporters in terms of administering donations and postal logistics, and via our call-centre. Therefore, a key focus will be the leadership of the Administration and Telephone Support teams (both are within Supporter Care).
A significant objective for this role is the implementation of a new CRM system which is part of UCB’s wider integrated data strategy. Working alongside IT, and Finance in particular, the Head of Supporter Care is responsible for the management of data in the new CRM system. Therefore, you will have knowledge and previous experience of working with CRM systems. Furthermore, you will be responsible for ensuring Supporter Care staff are trained, and associated ways of working are stream-lined.
We expect you to have leadership experience with strong business acumen and service development, educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent experience. As part of UCB’s leadership team you should welcome the challenge of prioritising a busy and diverse workload with the ability and flexibility required to meet tight deadlines and the initiative required to guide the Supporter Care staff through this transition period. The opportunity
We are seeking a skilled, experienced, and driven Finance Manager to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the company’s growth and development. You will review our financial procedures and processes and where appropriate recommend and implement change and improvements. You will lead our two-person finance team, part of core services, which provides HR, IT, facilities, and marketing support for the company.
What you will be doing
- Delivery of accurate and timely financial information for the company including preparation of monthly reports as required.
- Support the CEO and Executive on strategic development through the provision of performance insights on financial and delivery metrics and management accounts, liaising with external accountants, as appropriate.
- Provide reports to the Directors, Executive and other senior staff analysing company performance including project financial performance.
- Prepare for and oversee the Company’s annual independent financial accounts audit.
- Oversee insurance policies liaising with brokers and other third parties, as necessary.

The New Economics Foundation (NEF), one of the UK’s leading progressive think tanks, is looking for an experienced strategic leader to help oversee its finance, operations and governance.
In recent years, NEF has worked hard to stabilise our finances, improve our systems, and promote an inclusive and productive workplace. We have a solid base to build from – whether it’s the long lease on our premises on Albert Embankment or several long-term programmes of work – and are looking for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to help us to implement a new strategy and organisational structure, improve our business model and diversify our income, support excellent financial and operational support, and deliver excellent project management and resourcing. Given that our current COO leaves us in mid-December and that the role itself may change over the long-term, we are looking for a COO to join us on a 12 month fixed-term contract beginning in January 2025.
NEF offers generous terms and conditions, including a salary in the range of £78-87k per annum for a 32-hour working week that can be worked flexibly. Most colleagues work two days a week (usually Tuesdays and Wednesdays) in our office in central London, but that can be adjusted up or down depending on preferences. We are looking for a Project Assistant to support INQUEST’s National Lottery Heritage Fund project, Unlocking the INQUEST archive: memorialising death and resistance. This project encourages engagement with the INQUEST archive and memorialises state-related death and resistance through creative outputs including: 12-month consultation, artist’s residency, banner making, small scale events, archival research, film screenings and a podcast series.
