• Clinicians

Given that clinical safety is at the core of Lifebox’s mission, we seek clinicians to help strengthen our efforts in this critical area. Your expertise will be invaluable in guiding our organisation and innovation in anaesthesia care, especially in low-resource settings where safe anaesthesia can save countless lives. Our work focuses on perioperative patient care, so we are looking for board members with a background as a nurse, anesthesiologist or anaesthetist to work alongside our board members with a surgical background and provide an important clinical perspective.

• Fundraising/Philanthropy

We are looking for a board member who has experience in philanthropy or as a senior professional fundraiser. As we grow and expand our portfolio of programmes, we are looking for a board member with philanthropy or fundraising experience who can help us secure funds to support Lifebox’s ambitions. Your background could be as a philanthropist yourself, a foundation senior officer, an institutional funding professional, or in fundraising (including individual giving, major donor, trusts, grants, foundations and corporate giving).

• Financial expertise

Lifebox is a growing organisation with an expanding portfolio of programs. We need board members with senior financial leadership experience with experience in financial planning, management, and/or business development as we continue scaling our impact.

• Biomedical technology

As we continue to work in partnership sourcing devices, we are looking for a board member with marketing, supply chain or development experience in biomedical technology.

• Legal

An individual with an interest in public health and public law who has governance experience would add value to our board.

• Marketing, Communications and Operations Leadership

Individuals with a communications or marketing, journalism or advertising, non-profit operations, or strategic leadership background are also encouraged to apply. These skill sets are vital as we continue to raise awareness about the importance of safe surgery, build partnerships, and strengthen our internal capacity to support our global teams.

As a member of Lifebox’s Global Governance Council, you will actively participate in shaping our long-term strategy, particularly in expanding our efforts to improve surgical safety.

You will work closely with existing board members and our executive as part of a staggered transition, learning from their experience while bringing new insights to the organisation. You will join at an exciting time as we refresh and diversify our board and strategy.

As a board member, you will have the opportunity to represent Lifebox’s mission on a global stage, advocating for safer surgery and ensuring that our initiatives are responsive to the needs of the regions we serve.

Time commitment

The council meets virtually four times a year for 3-4 hours, with one meeting for our away day in person, usually in London. All board members join one subcommittee, which includes the Program Committee, Finance Committee, and the Governance & Nominations Committee. Our sub-committees meet four times a year virtually for 1-2 hours. We expect the time commitment to be the equivalent of a day a month, including preparation for meetings, ad hoc conversations with the executive and other board members, attending events and visiting programmes, etc.

Volunteer Safeguarding Lead  for Watford and Three Rivers Refugee Partnership (WTRRP)

Job summary:  The Safeguarding Lead will play a crucial role in developing, implementing, and overseeing safeguarding policies and procedures. This individual will work closely with staff, volunteers, and the Committee to promote a safe environment and handle any safeguarding concerns effectively.

WTRRP is a registered charity (England, reg no 1162226) that exists to support people in the Watford Borough and Three Rivers District of West Hertfordshire, who do not yet have status in the UK, or who have specific needs related to their application process or welfare. Currently WTRRP has around 160 live cases (defined as a family unit or individual currently in need of our help).

WTRRP is run by a Committee, which includes several Trustees. The Committee meets typically every 2 months and also for an Annual General Meeting, but it also provides day-to-day support to our staff members (Casework Coordinator and part-time Office Manager) and to our ~80 volunteers.

The main roles of the charity are to run a drop-in session every Tuesday (at St Mary’s Church in central Watford), a social hub at the same time, and to provide financial and other assistance to its clients for their application process for leave to remain in the UK.

Commitment: [ approximately 5 hours per week]

Key Responsibilities:

Policy Development: Develop and regularly review safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure they are up-to-date and compliant with legal and best practice standards.

Training: Organize safeguarding training sessions for staff and volunteers and review exisiting training.

Support: Provide guidance and support to staff and volunteers on safeguarding matters, including responding to concerns and allegations.

Monitoring: Monitor the implementation of safeguarding policies and practices across the organization.

Reporting: Maintain accurate records of safeguarding concerns and incidents, and ensure timely reporting to relevant authorities and stakeholders.

Review: Conduct regular reviews of safeguarding practices and make recommendations for improvements.

Key Requirements:

Experience: Prior experience in safeguarding, child protection, or a related field is preferred. Experience in a leadership or advisory role is advantageous.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practices. Knowledge of working with vulnerable individuals is essential.

Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Commitment: A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults.  The role will require approximately 5 hours per week.

Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in safeguarding, child protection, or related areas are desirable. Training in safeguarding is a plus.

Trustees

Overall Purpose

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines.

Main Responsibilities

• To ensure that the charity, and its representatives, function within the legal and regulatory framework of the sector and in line with the organisations’ governing document, continually striving for best practice in governance.
• To uphold the fiduciary duty invested in the position, undertaking such duties in a way that adds to public confidence and trust in the charity.
• To take appropriate professional advice in all matters where there may be material risk to the charity, or where the Trustees may be in breach of their duties. This course of action will ensure the obligation to exercise their duty of care.
• To determine the overall direction and development of the charity through good governance and clear strategic planning.
• To avoid any personal conflict of interest.

Main Duties

• Ensuring the charity complies with legislative and regulatory requirements, and acts within the confines of its governing document and in furtherance to organisational activities contained therein.
• Acting in the best interest of the charity, beneficiaries and future beneficiaries at all times.
• Promoting and developing the charity in order for it to grow and maintain its relevance to society.
• Maintaining sound financial management of the charity’s resources, ensuring expenditure is in line with the organisation’s objects and that its investment activities meet accepted standards and policies.
• Interviewing, appointing and monitoring the work and activities of the senior paid staff.
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the charity and its resources, striving for best practice in good governance.
• Acting as a counter-signatory on charity cheques and any applications for funds, if appropriate.
• To maintain confidentiality about all sensitive/confidential information received in the course of trustee’s responsibilities to the charity.
• Planning and setting trustee meetings and AGMs.
• Whilst there is no formal requirement to live in or near south London, trustees are expected to attend in-person meetings on a small number of occasions each year, including at PECAN.

Accountable to

As trustees are responsible for the governance and functioning of the charity, they are accountable in varying degrees to a variety of stakeholders, including: service-users, members, funders, the Charity Commission, and Companies House. Close attention must be given to the governing document.

Skills

Property (building management/surveying); legal; financial; fundraising; change management; and IT/digital; other applicants meeting the advertised criteria are also sought.

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. The Prince’s Trust couldn’t function as well without the support of thousands of volunteers across the UK, who are able to offer a vital network to young people facing significant barriers to jobs, education or training.

As a Business Volunteer, you will work alongside other volunteer mentors and Trust colleagues providing short-term mentoring and guidance to young people or supporting Programme group sessions where expert knowledge, skills or experience (such as language, legal, financial, or sector expertise) is needed. We are currently looking for Business Mentors in Wales.

Our Business Mentors are involved in guiding a young person through regular 1-to-1 mentoring and active support, as they grow the necessary skills and confidence needed to achieve their goals. This may range from providing help, guidance, and support as they identify whether self-employment is right for them, through to remaining alongside them in the early years as their business establishes and grows. You may be helping them to test the viability of their business ideas, launch their enterprise, helping to identify markets and opportunities for growth and will be championing and encouraging them as they navigate the often-difficult early stages of their business journey.

Volunteering can take place at a delivery centre or maybe online, though most likely you will be meeting your mentee in a convenient public location that suits you both.

By volunteering as a Business Mentor you will be directly impacting young people who will benefit from your knowledge, expertise and experience.

Mentoring with The Prince’s Trust is centred around empowering a young person to take ownership of their own journey. For this role we are looking for someone with a good knowledge of the fundamentals of developing and growing a new business. It would be great if you have experience in things like business planning, selling, marketing & finance and are good at building trust with young people from a range of backgrounds. More than this we want you bring to life your experience in a way that empowers our young people to do it for themselves, so being a great communicator, creative, flexible and non-judgemental is essential.

It is important that our business mentors are encouraging, able to give and receive constructive corrective feedback and reinforce learning and progress.

You will be working with young people who have completed our Exploring Enterprise Course which is designed to help 18 to 30-year-olds turn their ideas into a business reality.

If you have a passion and enthusiasm to support young people, many of whom are experiencing significant personal barriers, and could commit a few hours each month, we would love to hear from you!

Trustees wanted: We are looking for four new trustees of the Social Research Association (SRA), to join a lively and positive governing group and help to guide an organisation passionately focused on the advancement of knowledge and professional best practice in the social research for the benefit of the public good.  With a new Chair of the Board and a new Chief Executive these are exciting times as we head towards our 50th anniversary in 2028. What does it involve? Trustees meet virtually six times a year, and you’ll be expected to attend these meetings, as well as our annual general meeting (usually another virtual meeting held in January). Board meetings focus on strategic rather than operational issues. Trustees are unpaid volunteers, whose positions are re-nominated every three years, to a maximum of six years. Expenses for meetings are reimbursed, where appropriate. Each trustee contributes their knowledge and experience to help the board reach sound decisions. This will involve scrutinising board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, and providing views and advice on new initiatives or other issues. You’ll need to be aware of / learn about your legal responsibilities, and the need to act in accordance with Charity Commission guidance.

We are looking for a new Clinical Trustee to help us deliver our purpose - to give every local child with a life-threatening condition and their family access to professional care and improve their quality of life from the point of diagnosis.

It is our mission to achieve our purpose by: 

· Providing professional care and support

· Reaching every child with a life-threatening condition as soon as possible to give their families informed choices about accessing our services; and

· Raising the money we need and targeting those resources in the best way to make the biggest impact.

With a dedicated team of almost 300 staff and more than 600 volunteers, we support over 650 families every year by providing respite care, antenatal and neonatal support, end of life care and immediate care after death, sibling support, and counselling and bereavement support from our two hospices based in Oswestry (Shropshire) and Conwy (North Wales).

As a Trustee, you will play a vital role in making sure our charity is well run in the interests of the children and families we are here to support. You will also ensure we deliver our purpose by setting the strategic direction, managing the performance, and having responsibility for the governance of Hope House Children’s Hospices.

Ideally you will be:

· An experienced medical or nursing professional, with a background in general practice, obstetrics, paediatric care, or palliative care

· Motivated to help the charity deliver its purpose most effectively and for public benefit

· Motivated to actively support the charity to raise the money it needs

Main Responsibilities of the Treasurer

In relation to the Committee

• Assist the Chair and management committee to formulate strategic plans and regular review of long-term strategic aims of the organisation.
• Inform organisational financial polies
• To present financial reports to the board, including the organisation’s end of year accounts.
• Advice on the financial implications of the organisation’s operational plans and strategies
• Advise on the organisational fundraising strategy
• Ensure that there is no conflict between investment and CIHA’s mission and values.

In relation to the CEO

• Assist the Chair to appoint the CEO and contribute to the process of appraising and constructively guiding the performance of the CEO.
• Assume guardianship of the legal and financial integrity of the organisation.
• Advise the Chair and CEO on matters of financial strategy.
• Oversee the CEO’s activities in the context of financial responsibility
• Together with the Chair maintain careful oversight of any risk to reputation and/or financial standing of the organisation.
• Receive regular informal progress reports of the organisation’s financial performance through the CEO and Chair.

As a member of the Board, you will be responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation, developing its aims, objectives and goals in accordance with company guidelines, legal and regulatory guidelines, you will help to protect the wealth and assets of the organisation.

Ensuring that the organisation complies with internal policy and legislation.

Making sure that the organisation pursues defined goals in line with its stated objectives.

Monitoring the financial position and ensuring that the organisation operates within its means and that there are clear lines of accountability for financial management

Leading discussions and providing guidance on new initiatives, particularly in areas where the member has specific skills, knowledge or expertise.

Meetings are held either in a Central London venue or over Microsoft teams, on weekday evenings once a quarter.

Join Transition Network as a new Trustee

Do you have wisdom, a fresh perspective, time and energy that you want to place in service to an innovative organisation?

Transition Network is a charity registered in England and Wales that works internationally to support the Transition movement.  We are looking for new trustees from a diversity of backgrounds and lived experiences who can help guide our strategy and join an ongoing experiment in shared governance. We are seeking to recruit several new trustees, including generalists as well as a new trustee Treasurer.

Top Church Training are a registered charity whose overall focus is to support personal development, improve employment prospects, provide practical help through difficult times and offer a gateway through which people can become more involved in community life. ​

We are seeking a Company Secretary who can use their skills and capabilities to assist the Board to operate efficiently and effectively. You will also help the charity to continue providing vital support to those who need it.

What will you be doing?

This role is for someone who is organised and methodical, with an eye for detail. You will take minutes at Board meetings and make sure the charity follows company law. You will also participate fully in Board meetings and play an important part in the strategic direction of the charity.

Together the Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance and management of the Charity, including regulatory compliance. However, the Company Secretary is expected to lead on all aspects of the charities adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, that includes submission of documentation to the appropriate body.

This includes being able to present and explain any requirements to other Trustees, to aid the Board’s understanding and ability to jointly make decisions about changes to the charities governance matters.

Overview 

Esteem works with young adults aged 14 - 26 to build lasting self-Esteem and stronger communities through group activities and 1-2-1 support. 

Esteem creates spaces where everyone matters.

Esteem works with 200 young adults annually across all of Sussex who face barriers to achieving their life goals. We have a base in Shoreham and offer a variety of different opportunities, including social drop-in sessions, mentoring, wellbeing sessions, volunteering and counselling. We have a dedicated staff team with various backgrounds and a commitment to championing the views of young adults throughout the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity to volunteer for a charity that is passionate about giving young adults the chance to develop their skills and confidence, both for their own benefit and for that of society as a whole. Esteem works with young adults to run Wellbeing, Social, Mentoring and Volunteering opportunities, with a youth-led and asset-based approach.

This voluntary role of Trustee & Secretary will include duties such as organising and minuting board meetings and some administrative duties to support the board.  As well as the normal duties of a trustee (see The Essential Trustee Duties) The main aim is for the Trustee Secretary to support the Chair and the CO in ensuring the smooth functioning of the board of trustees. This would also compliment other areas we seek to enhance the trustee team, which include a wide range of skills, and expertise in youth work, strategy planning, business development, financial administration and fundraising, as well as an interest in vocational and personal development for young people, combined with an in-depth understanding of our work and ambitions.

You will be jointly and severally responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, its financial health, the probity of its activities and developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document, legal and regulatory guidelines. All trustees should also be aware of, and understand, their individual and collective responsibilities, and should not be overly reliant on one or more individual trustees in any particular aspect of the governance of the charity.

During Trustee meetings, your role would be to take minutes and record actions. Following each meeting, you would write up the minutes, share with the Board, as well as support the Chair and CO to plan for the next meeting.

Individuals are sought who have a strong empathy with Esteem’s goal of enabling young adults to flourish. The Esteem Secretary will be expected to contribute around 6 hours per month to the organisation, including board meetings, which run for two hours every two months, from 6-8pm at The Old School House, Shoreham. A minimum commitment of two years would be preferable. This post requires some flexibility due to the nature of Esteem being a growing organisation.

Your regular tasks and responsibilities will include:

• Attend Board meetings on Tuesday evenings eveyy 8 weeks at Esteem, from 6-8pm

• Read meeting minutes and pre-reading documents ahead of meeting (sent at least 1 week before the meeting)

• Contribute to all aspects of Esteems Strategy and maintain oversight of the organisation

• Ensuring meetings are effectively organised and minuted

• Ensuring meeting minutes are agreed with Chair and circulated post-meetings

• Maintaining effective records and administration

• Assisting the trustees to uphold  the legal requirements of governing documents, to be compliant with charity law, company law etc. (where relevant)

• Liaising with the Chair to plan Board meetings 

• Draw on the Governance calendar to help plan agenda items and liaise with the CO  and trustees to produce the necessary updates for review at the Board meeting

Desirable:

• Knowledge of Charity law and the voluntary sector.

• Knowledge of, or experience in, the role of a company secretary

• Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting young adults. 

• Have knowledge of Google Drive

Appointment to this role is subject to satisfactory vetting and barring checks.

We’re seeking new trustees to join our board. This is an exciting opportunity to help lead Big Leaf Foundation in the next phase of its development and to use your skills and experience to make a lasting difference to the lives of displaced young people in Surrey.

We are seeking individuals with:
o commitment to our vision, mission and values;
o excellent teamwork and leadership skills and effective decision-making;
o willingness to commit time and effort to the role;
o good, independent judgement, strategic vision and ability to communicate ideas;
o history of impartiality, fairness and commitment to promoting equality and diversity.

We particularly need individuals with skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

o charity governance;
o risk management;
o data security and IT;

o diversity and inclusion;
o evaluation and reporting.

The statutory duties of a trustee are to:

o Ensure the organisation complies with its governing document.
o Ensure that the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing document.
o Ensure the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives – the charity must not spend money on activities which are not included in its own objectives, no matter how 'charitable' and 'worthwhile' those activities are.
o Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets. o Safeguard the good name and values of the organisation.
o Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
o Ensure the financial stability of the organisation.
o Protect and manage the property of the organisation and to ensure the proper investment of the organisation's funds.
o If the organisation employs staff, to appoint the Chief Executive Officer and monitor his or her performance.

In addition, with other trustees to hold the charity “in trust” for current and future beneficiaries by:

o Ensuring that the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and is focused on achieving these.

o Being responsible for the performance of the charity and for its “corporate” behaviour; ensuring that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.

o Acting as guardians of the charity’s assets, both tangible and intangible, taking all due care over their security, deployment and proper application.

o Ensuring that the charity’s governance is of the highest possible standard.
