A key part of this strategy is to invest in our fundraising team to achieve transformational growth in voluntary income in the next 10 years. As our Individual Giving and Legacy Officer, you will use your skills in fundraising and supporter care to deliver our ambitious plans to grow our fundraising from individual donors and legacies.

You will be part of our Fundraising Team, reporting to our Director of Fundraising and working especially closely with the Donor Acquisition Project Manager.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

Legacies

• Support and monitor a nationwide legacy marketing campaign.
• Develop and deliver stewardship programmes for individuals, legacy enquirers, and legacy pledgers.
• Develop programmes to promote legacy giving.
• Manage and maintain records of legacy enquirers, pledgers, donors, and executors.

Individual Giving

• Oversee the annual challenge and fundraising events programme.
• Oversee marketing campaigns for challenge and fundraising events.
• Provide support for a pilot donor acquisition programme.
• Undertake research on new fundraising opportunities and sources of individual giving income.
• Monitor progress of individual giving income, including working to agreed KPIs and ROI.

The postholder will responsible for the project management of and writing copy for individual giving and legacy fundraising campaigns, and donor stewardship communications, via email, web, social media, and/or direct mail. 

About the Candidate

You will be able to demonstrate an entrepreneurial approach to identifying new opportunities and developing ideas. You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to project manage fundraising campaigns and build personal relationships with alumni donors. You will be skilled in writing engaging fundraising copy for email, web and print. Ideally you will have experience of individual giving and/or legacy fundraising from the Higher Education or Not for Profit sector. However transferrable skills from exceptional candidates looking to move into the Higher Education sector are also welcomed.

About the Role

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. MAP is the leading UK charity delivering health and medical care to those worst affected by conflict, occupation and displacement, in the occupied Palestinian territory and Palestinian refugee camps of Lebanon. 

We are seeking an experienced legacy professional to lead and grow MAP’s legacy giving programme. This role is instrumental in generating circa £1m annually, directly contributing to MAP’s vital work. You’ll take the lead in building MAP’s legacy programme – from marketing legacies to stewarding prospects, enquirers and pledgers. Working collaboratively across teams, you’ll design engaging supporter journeys that ensure an exceptional experience, strengthening MAP’s legacy pipeline. You’ll also play a pivotal role in strengthening the profile of legacy giving at MAP, building strong connections internally and externally. About You

We’re looking for a pro-active individual with a proven track record in building legacy fundraising strategies and delivering multi-channel campaigns.  Duties and key responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy 

• Lead the development of the legacy programme, creating a strategic plan that considers audiences, products and channels and which is aligned to MAP’s fundraising strategy. 

• Monitor and analyse trends within legacy giving, both internally and externally, using these findings to influence the direction of the programme. 

• Manage and support the Legacy Marketing Officer (fixed term) and liaise with MAP’s legacy administration consultant to ensure excellence in both legacy marketing and administration. Assess resources and develop business plans to support team changes as and when relevant. 

• Champion legacy giving throughout MAP, influencing and engaging colleagues across the organisation and raising the profile of this income stream. 

• Build and manage relationships with external partners including agencies and suppliers including creative, print/fulfilment and free will providers.   

Campaign Planning and Management 

• Plan, implement and optimise legacy marketing campaigns across various channels, ensuring alignment with MAP’s broader fundraising goals. 

• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to develop audience-led content and materials that drive engagement with legacy giving. 

• Monitor, analyse and report on campaign performance, adjusting plans and activity based on insights and trends with a view to maximise ROI. 

• Develop and maintain effective supporter journeys tailored to legacy prospects and legacy intenders/pledgers, ensuring a consistent, engaging and inspiring experience.

Innovation 

• Lead legacy marketing innovation by identifying and testing new channels, tools and approaches to enhance MAP’s legacy offering. 

• Stay updated on trends and legacy marketing best practice, with the goal of developing MAP into a leader in legacy fundraising. 

Budget Management 

• Create and oversee the legacy budget, setting income and expenditure targets in collaboration with the Head of Individual Giving.

• Manage financial planning, reporting, and risk assessment for the legacy budget.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Experience

• Proven track record in legacy programme management across various channels, with evidence of successful development of legacy fundraising strategies. 

• Skilled in performance reporting, data analysis and using insights to shape a legacy programme. 

• Experience creating acquisition fundraising plans across channels (online and offline) and delivering supporter journeys across a range of audiences. 

• Excellent project management skills, including managing multiple projects and priorities at once. 

• Experience of day-to-day management of external stakeholders and agencies.

• Experience in planning and budgeting – with proficiency in legacy forecasting.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

• Able to confidently analyse results and extract insights to inform campaigns.  

• Excellent digital, written and verbal communication skills, with a supporter-centric approach. 

• Effective management and leadership skills.

• Highly proactive – excellent at networking, communicating and influencing.

Education/training

• Direct marketing or fundraising qualification and/or equivalent experience (desirable).

Senior Legacy & In Memory Direct Marketing Officer

Battersea is here for every dog and cat, and has been since 1860. Our multiple award-winning Income Generation department raises around 60% of the Charity’s total income, allowing us to continue to grow to make sure we can be here for every cat and dog, now and in the future.

We are looking for someone to join our team as a Senior Legacy & In Memory Direct Marketing Officer on a fixed term basis, to deliver Battersea’s Legacy and In Memory marketing and fundraising programme by independently managing multi-channel direct and wider marketing campaigns to recruit and attract new Legacy and In Memory donors.

The ideal candidate would have experience planning, implementing and evaluating direct marketing campaigns across a range of media channels, the ability to analyse results of campaigns and a passion for helping dogs and cats.

About the team:

The Individual Giving department is part of the Fundraising and Marketing directorate and brings in approximately £88m per annum through regular giving, one off gifts, prize-led fundraising, community and events and legacy and in memory. They report to Regional Supporter Relations Managers and, ultimately, the Head of Community Supporter Experiences.

What you need to know:

As the role is primarily customer-facing, the SRO is based at the rehoming centre. However, they spend a portion of their time in local communities. This role involves frequent travel, both locally and across the UK, including some overnight stays, as well as weekend and evening work. A full UK manual driving licence is essential.

As this Individual Giving & Insights Manager, you will:

• Lead the Individual Giving programme worth £1.2m per year, working alongside their Individual Giving Officer to drive fundraising success.
• Develop and launch a new Membership product, designed to attract and retain connected supporters.
• Grow the Legacies programme in partnership with the Legacy Officer, enhancing supporter engagement.
• Craft supporter journeys that build deeper relationships, increase engagement, and boost income.
• Use data driven insights to refine targeting, optimise campaigns, and steer the success of their initiatives.
• Implement Innovation and test new approaches, particularly in cost effective digital channels, to secure sustainable growth for their cause.

• Strong experience in planning and executing direct marketing campaigns for supporter acquisition and retention.
• Skill in developing strategic, data driven supporter journeys using digital and email platforms.

As CFO, the successful candidate will manage all day-to-day financial operations, play an active role in the Senior Management Team, provide financial information and advice to the Board of Trustees, and lead the finance team of two direct reports. About the Role

The CFO will manage the day-to-day financial processes of the Foundation, including preparing budgets, management and annual accounts, drawing up VAT returns, payroll, and managing cash flow, while ensuring compliance with financial regulations.

Key responsibilities include:

•  Leading financial strategy and planning to support the Foundation’s ambitions.
• Ability to combine a broad vision with detailed financial controls and understanding, balancing financial strategy alongside day to day processing
• Provide Trustees with the information and advice required to ensure effective corporate governance and financial viability
• Managing financial risks and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
• Managing significant cash movements for optimum yield
• Handling the financial aspects of acquisitions and disposals
• Review and sanction all agreements relating to financial duties, such as contracts for services and information technology assets

What you will bring?

The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with at least 3 years of senior management experience, ideally within the charity or cultural sector. You will have a strong understanding of charity finance regulations, VAT, Gift Aid, and financial reporting. Adaptability and flexibility are essential qualities in this role.

Key qualifications and experience include:

• Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
• Minimum 3 years of senior management experience
• Expertise in charity finance regulations and VAT
• Experience in significant cash movements and cash flow forecasting
• Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, BrightPay)
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
• Understanding of investments and endowments is desirable

Our Direct Marketing Team is part of this department, and recruits and develops supporters. We are seeking a Direct Marketing Officer to join this team on a fixed term basis until June 2025. They will independently manage and deliver a series of high standard direct marketing campaigns to recruit new donors, communicate with existing donors, and generate agreed income for Battersea through a variety of warm and cold marketing channels such as direct mail, print media, and digital promotion. This role will manage Battersea’s raffle product and campaigns associated with it.
