The postholder will be experienced, skilled and knowledgeable, with an essential interest in and experience of working with migrant and refugee clients with complex needs; and the post would suit someone with previous experience in the migration or advice sectors who is interested in working with a mixed caseload that includes needs around destitution, homelessness, immigration and NRPF issues. The post holder will assess, prioritise and triage new enquiries and referrals and allocate cases as appropriate within the generalist team. You will also carry your own caseload and provide one-to-one generalist advice, casework and practical support to migrant and refugee clients on
issues including immigration status, housing & homelessness, welfare benefits, asylum support, community care and destitution; as well as signposting and referring to internal and external local services including support groups, wellbeing activities, digital inclusion, ESOL, training and employability.

You will oversee our phone and email advice provision and organise and take part in the weekly advice rota. You will administer our destitution hardship grants and liaise closely with our food bank staff in relation to destitute clients in need of food bank support. You will attend and participate in local migrant sector meetings and networks as appropriate and, along with all staff and volunteers, you will have responsibility for identifying and raising any safeguarding concerns. You will jointly oversee and supervise casework volunteers and provide support and advice to our current generalist caseworker where needed.

The advice & casework team supports clients holistically on a range of different matters and our core caseload includes refugees, asylum seekers, those with NRPF, complex EUSS cases, spousal visas and undocumented migrants. Many of those we work with are homeless or precariously housed, destitute, and/or struggling to access support through statutory services for mental health, housing, welfare benefits and children’s services. The balance of time spent between different client groups and cases will need to be responsive to the ongoing demographic changes we see in the city and region, and the post holder will be expected to provide casework management and co-ordination of relevant services, liaising closely with other providers and with interpreters.

You will work as part of a small, supportive team that currently includes one other f/t generalist caseworker, one f/t immigration caseworker and a number of active casework support volunteers. The wider frontline staff team includes four refugee resettlement caseworkers; our group work facilitator; a skills & employability caseworker; an ESOL tutor; a food bank co-ordinator; and a volunteer co-ordinator.

Regular supervision and support and in-house and on-the-job training will be provided, as well as external training on specific issues where needed. However you will need to be ready to step immediately into a busy advice environment with the necessary confidence, skills and knowledge to begin to deliver advice and casework and take over an existing caseload.

On rare occasions you might be required to work out of hours where there are emergencies or if and when there are new arrivals in need of immediate support.

Kineara has a new vacancy for an experienced Asylum and Refugee Housing Support Worker to join our small and dedicated team in this new project supporting recent granted refugees to find accommodation.

Asylum and Refugee Housing Support Practitioner   

Salary: £ 16 per hour 
Contract and term:  Self-employed 12 month contract, with a 3-month probation

About the project  

Set up by the Southwark Community Refugee Forum, alongside Southwark local community and charity organisations. Kineara provides a weekly drop-in surgery at the St Giles Center giving support and advice to refugees struggling to find PRS due to many barriers, including language. In 2023 the collaboration was formed to respond to the increasing need for housing support to asylum seekers with newly granted refugee status after the Home office made changes to the way they process asylum seekers.   

After 9 months of delivery, we are excited to have secured funding to deliver this work fulltime alongside our PRS Renters Support Programme in Southwark. We will provide crucial crisis support to vulnerable renters and are looking for a passionate housing support worker to be part of the next phase of the project.

About the role  

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and energetic support worker to take up a full-time role within our organisation as a Housing Support Practitioner in our small and dedicated team. The role will be based mostly in Southwark, and you will be working in partnership with the Council’s housing officers and resettlement workers, refugee support organisations, community services. The role involves coordinate tailored support for each client to find and sustain tenancies, mediating with landlords where necessary and providing housing advice. The objective of this programme is to support access to PRS properties, provide information about housing market and polices, help set up sustainable tenancies, increase employment opportunities, improve wellbeing, and increase educational outcomes. You will be working in partnership with other stakeholders, such as council and refugee support professionals to improve family health, build relationships and engage families and individuals and their networks of support.

You will have experience of working with individuals with complex needs. You will be an enthusiastic person who is self-motivated, confident and thrives when working independently with a passion to support change. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, experience delivering holistic support, be a solution-minded thinker, have a good understanding of strength-based approaches and be able work sensitively and empathetically with people in vulnerable circumstances. You will also have experience working in a systemic and therapeutic way and ideally have trauma informed training or experience. It is also important to us that you have the competency to work with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds. To work as part of a team and independently, the roles require you to think creatively and use the resources around you effectively. We are looking for an Outreach Senior Caseworker with experience of delivering effective advocacy on behalf of people from marginalised communities. This role will  play a key role in the delivery of services that will support equal access to primary medical services for people seeking asylum in contingency accommodation in Northeast London. The outreach service will offer initial health and social assessments, urgent care, and will facilitate GP registration and, and support access to wider healthcare and support services within the area through direct referrals and signposting, and coordination with other local services and partners.

As part of DOTWs Services team, you will support the service by proactively promoting DOTW’s service at individual accommodation sites, providing social assessments for residents and their dependents, escalating health issues of any immediate concern, and support responses to urgent health and/or safeguarding concerns. As part of a culture of best practice, you will ensure adherence to DotW policies and will provide support resolving complex cases, deploying your demonstrative experience delivering person-centred, compassionate care and/or advice and support to people seeking asylum or from other excluded communities.

The Baobab Centre is a non-residential therapeutic community that supports young asylum seekers and refugees who have experienced human rights abuses and have sought asylum in the UK as unaccompanied minors. Our two focus areas are rehabilitation and justice.

The role of the Baobab Casework Advocate is to provide care and support for our community of unaccompanied asylum seeking and refugee children and young people. An ‘advocate’ is someone who supports another to express their views and wishes, to stand up for their rights, to enable one to make choices and access opportunities, while understanding the individual’s vulnerability and need.  As Casework Advocate you will work within our multidisciplinary team to provide the intensive support required, identify indicators of risk and safeguard young people from significant harm.

Mental Health

As Casework Advocate you will understand the impact of specific human rights abuses on the development of children and young people in exile and their individual experiences of loss, trauma and grief on their mental health and well-being.  All the young people Baobab supports suffer significant mental health and developmental difficulties and many function in an unstable and more immature way than their chronological age. Due to their experiences, it takes time to gain trust from the young people in our community.

Baobab’s Model

It is our experience that it takes a significant amount of time to understand Baobab’s model of working, which aims for rehabilitation and justice through attending to both the internal and external world of each young person (see more detail in accompanying ‘Baobab Model’ document). It is critical that as a Casework Advocate you strive to have an insight to the experiences of both the internal and external factors impacting on the lives of unaccompanied young people attending our centre. It is also critical you understand the the ways in which UK society and policy impacts on young asylum seekers (including invisibility, marginalisation, discrimination and the fact of waiting in uncertainty for a long time)

Multi-disciplinary Working A key aspect of the role is communicating with members of the team at Baobab and building relationships with other workers in the networks around each young person including social workers, teachers, foster carers, lawyers, clinicians in hospitals and community settings. Baobab aims to be a reflective, thinking organisation and we place a high value on shared thinking time, sharing responsibilities and working together with others who have a key role in relation to each young person both within and outside of Baobab.

Accessing rights and entitlements

The Casework Advocate supports community members to better understand the context in which they are living and how to access appropriate care, rights and entitlements. This involves working closely with each young person’s Key Work Clinician, and together strengthening relationships with external networks and developing holistic support plans to meet identified needs. As a Casework Advocate you must be prepared to challenge certain decisions and practices by external agencies where required for the welfare of the young person. The role involves supporting young people to initiate legal challenges when necessary and advocating on young person’s behalf where they are unable to.

Working towards independence

A key component of the role is to empower individuals to communicate their views, needs and experiences and participate in decision making processes. You will encourage young people to develop their level of knowledge and skills to enable their independence and progression towards their aspirations. Many of the young people Baobab supports find the task of taking responsibility for their own lives and making choices hugely challenging.

The postholder will have the opportunity to work directly with people seeking safety in the UK, providing primary healthcare with an emphasis on mental health support and referrals and access to further mental health support where appropriate.  The successful candidate will be a trained General Practitioner (GP) and have experience working with people in the asylum system and an understanding of and empathy with mental health needs for people going through the asylum system. The successful candidate will need to be willing to work onsite for the duration of the working week (2-3 days, max 2 nights a week), at Essex, Wethersfield, and will join a close knit team who are extremely passionate about what they do!

Job Purpose:

The UK migration project team are running a mobile clinic at Wethersfield mass containment site for 
asylum seekers. The role holder, a trained General Practitioner (GP), will provide outpatient primary 
medical care to people according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF/DOTW protocols, 
policies, values, and universal hygiene standards to improve the patient’s health conditions.

This includes a requirement to work overnight locally for the duration of the two or three-day mobile 
clinics.

Knowledge, Skill & Experience: 

• Fully qualified GP with full GMC registration and license to practice, with current or recent clinical experience.
• Experience in migrant health.
• Substantial field experience with MSF or DOTW an asset
• Willingness to travel and work overnight in Essex for the working period (2 or 3 days a week

You'll beresponsible for overseeing your caseload of R@H placements and database management. The role of Placement Coordinator will be to work alongside the placement team in making safe placements quickly and efficiently.

You will build your knowledge of working with guests with different immigration status and needs, and get to know our hosts and what they are able to offer guests.  You'll be sharing information and resources with guests to help them find more permanent accommodation.

Rainbow Migration, the longest-running charity in Europe dedicated to supporting LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system, is recruiting a Casework Coordinator to deliver support services to people seeking asylum on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or sex characteristics.

Rainbow Migration has been supporting LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system and campaigning for their rights since 1993. We now have an opportunity for a Casework Coordinator to join our team and play a key role in helping women seeking asylum on the basis of their sexual orientation improve their ability and resilience to cope with the challenges they face and build support networks.

This role will receive full training and support as required to deliver your responsibilities, including:

· Facilitating regular support group meetings of women who are seeking asylum on the basis of their sexual orientation

 Contract type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time (35 hours a week). Working part-time (minimum 21 hours a week) or job-sharing will be considered. Occasional work in the evenings and at weekends may be required but with plenty of notice. Rainbow Migration encourages staff to maintain a good work life balance and has a TOIL system in place.

Salary: Starting at £30,236 FTE with potential annual step increases up to £33,899 (pro rata if working part-time), plus statutory employer’s pension contribution. In addition to an annual step increase, the trustees consider giving a separate inflationary increase every April.

Location: Rainbow Migration’s offices are based between Vauxhall and the Oval, London. This role will have an office-based contract but the postholder can choose to work from home for part of the week in agreement with their line manager as per our hybrid working policy. You must be available to work from our offices in London when necessary. The successful candidate would also be welcome to work from the office full-time if that is their preference. We are looking for a Casework Coordinator to join our organisation. Working as part of the Casework team, our successful candidate will be responsible, both directly and through working with volunteers, for casework and emotional support for people detained under immigration powers.

About ESOL learning at CARAS 

For many years now, ESOL learning has been essential to our holistic offer. Community members typically tell us that learning English is their top priority when they join us. The CARAS ESOL project won the President’s Award at the 2021 Festival of Learning in recognition of our work. 

The CARAS ESOL project supports people in the early stages of ESOL learning. Our adult ESOL groups prepare learners for entry-level Speaking and Listening or Reading and Writing exams with the English Speaking Board. All classes have rolling admission throughout the year, which means the learner groups are evolving all the time. 

ESOL classes at CARAS are guided by our values and principles, including participatory education, trauma-informed practice and translanguaging pedagogy. The three main aims of the ESOL project are to: 

• increase learners’ communicative competence and confidence; 

• help learners progress into college, training or employment; 

• expand learners’ social networks. 

Main activities 

• teaching ESOL classes (face-to-face and online): 7 hours / 5 classes a week during term time (38 weeks a year), ESOL Literacies, Pre-Entry to Entry 2 level 

• supporting ESOL learners to develop essential digital skills and literacies by embedding them in the lessons 

• preparing groups to take exams accredited by the English Speaking Board 

• collaborating closely with the adult team to develop and facilitate the CARAS employability project  

• planning for and accompanying ESOL groups on educational trips once a term 

• assessing learners during their engagement in the programme and planning for move on support with college applications, volunteering opportunities and signposting to other ESOL provisions 

• completing admin tasks such as class records and learner enrolment 

• developing participatory and creative lesson plans to inspire and meet the needs of the learner group 

• meeting new community members to do an intake meeting with them once a month.

• recruiting and supervising a team of volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants as and when required 

• communicating with learners between classes to support their engagement and provide signposting or referrals to casework and external services

Person specification 

We expect applicants to meet most of the criteria below, but not everything. We value experience from volunteering, unpaid work and lived experience as well as from employment history.

• have a recognised ESOL teaching qualification, minimum Level 5 (e.g. CELTA or CertTESOL), preferably Level 7 (e.g. PGCE with ESOL specialism) or equivalent 

• have a minimum one year full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience of teaching ESOL to adults or young adults 

• have a track record of successfully teaching beginner-level ESOL learners and providing differentiated support 

• have any knowledge or experience in providing literacy support to learners new to reading and writing English

• have experience of teaching preparation classes for ESOL exams that include reading and writing components 

• can support learners to develop their literacy & digital skills 

• know a variety of ways to assess learners, including diagnostic and formative assessment

• use methods for delivering online classes over Zoom (or similar online platform) that follow the principles of learner-centred, communicative language teaching

Main Roles

• To provide specialist legal advice and information on housing, welfare benefits, debt, and other issues as required by the service.
• To help improve the situation of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants through participating in policy work, campaign and developing networks and partnerships.
