About CoppaFeel!

CoppaFeel! are the UK’s only youth focused breast cancer awareness charity, and we’re on a mission to get every 18-24 year old checking their chest. We educate people on the signs of breast cancer and encourage them to check their chests monthly, so that if they notice something unusual they are empowered to contact their GP and advocate for themselves.

We do this because when diagnosed early, breast cancer treatments are more effective and survival rates are higher. Early detection can save lives.

Breast cancer does not need to be detected late, and as long as we are here and continue to be supported by people like you, we will do all we can to make sure this doesn’t continue to happen.

The Role

CoppaFeel! is looking for a Senior Policy and Public Affairs Manager to lead the organisation’s influencing activity, including the development and delivery of an overarching influencing strategy. This is an exciting time to join the team as we refresh and relaunch our policy and public affairs focus. This new role will shape our approach and have autonomy to lead this function for the organisation.

The Senior Policy and Public Affairs Manager will play a pivotal role in positioning CoppaFeel! as a key voice in influencing policies to improve breast cancer education, awareness, diagnosis, and treatment for young people. We are looking for a self-starter who is able to analyse our current position and set our future direction. We are looking for a proactive networker, who is confident in navigating the world of public affairs and the charity sector.

The post holder will ensure that CoppaFeel!'s policy and public affairs activities are data- and insight-driven, centring the voices and experiences of young people, those who have had a breast cancer diagnosis, and healthcare professionals. A key focus of this work will be to highlight the health inequities and unique challenges faced by young people—particularly those from underserved groups—and ensure these are reflected in policy development.

The Senior Policy and Public Affairs Manager will be based within the Education team but will lead and collaborate across the organisation to achieve our influencing objectives.

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that you will attend the London office 2 days per week. You will be required to attend the office for quarterly team meetings, department meetings and in person training, we will provide plenty of notice for when you are required to be in for these purposes.

This role is full-time, but part-time will be considered if requested.

Duties & Responsibilities

Policy

• Lead on the development, implementation and evaluation of CoppaFeel!’s influencing strategy aligning it with our EDI commitments
• Research, develop and update evidence-based policy positions on key breast cancer issues which impact people between 18-35, and seek to influence policy development on these positions.
• Produce high quality, evidence- based policy outputs, including briefings, responses to consultations and policy publications
• Liaise with key influencers, including civil servants, policymakers, other charities and healthcare professionals, in order to influence policy
• Ensure key internal and external stakeholders are updated on policy developments and provide support for senior staff as required
• Support policy input into media responses and act as a media spokesperson on policy related issues
• Represent CoppaFeel! on relevant working groups
• Draft articles and updates about key policy activities for CoppaFeel!’s audiences

Public Affairs

• Develop and deliver impactful public affairs elements of CoppaFeel’s influencing strategy working with the Head of Policy and Engagement
• Research and identify opportunities to engage Parliamentarians in health and education related issues and develop and maintain relationships with key politicians
• Organise and lead CoppaFeel!’s public affairs events, including parliamentary receptions and roundtables and party conference activities
• Lead on the monitoring of legislation and parliamentary activity relevant to CoppaFeel!
• Suggest PQs and prepare briefings for Parliamentarians
• Represent CoppaFeel! at parliamentary events and relevant public affairs working groups

Campaigns

• Lead on the development of campaigning activities that relate to the influencing strategy and resulting policy and public affairs work
• Utilise campaign tools to deliver influencing objectives
• Work closely with relevant departments and key stakeholders, such as young people and/or the breast cancer community to deliver co-created campaigns that meet goals successfully
• Future Line Management: as the organisation evolves, opportunity to add resource and take on line management responsibilities, overseeing team members and fostering their professional growth

Skills, experience and qualifications

Essential

• A minimum of six years’ experience in a policy or public affairs related environment, delivering impact and notable change
• At least two years experience working in health policy
• Experience of undertaking research and analysing complex data to support policy development
• Experience of leading projects, including producing plans and working across teams to lead their implementation
• Experience of producing evidence-based policy and public affairs related materials, including briefings and reports
• Knowledge of UK political processes and the policy environment
• Strong working knowledge of parliamentary procedure
• Ability to think strategically, with strong analytical judgement and decision-making skills
• Ability to analyse and summarise policy information and assess relevance
• Ability to use own initiative and work independently
• Excellent organisational skills
• A team player, able to work well with a wider variety of people

• An undergraduate degree, preferably with a political, public policy or another relevant component

Solent Mind delivers Wellbeing services across Hampshire, including Eastleigh, Winchester, Fareham and Gosport and the New Forest. This post is based in the New Forest locality. The Wellbeing services provide a range of support, including 1-1s, courses and workshops delivered both within the centres and via digital platforms.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead on an externally funded outreach project providing hard to reach young people with the opportunity to try free boating sessions over the summer holidays.

This is a very varied and rewarding role that requires someone who is self-motivated, organised, creative, tenacious, positive and IT competent with experience in project management.

You need to be able to motivate and inspire your project team, ensuring that the project is on target through continuous monitoring and evaluation. The On The Water Project Coordinator will be responsible for the line management of 3 fixed-term Project Assistants.

Whilst this role is homebased for the majority of the time, it requires the post holder to travel to each of the locations intensively throughout the 5 week delivery period, as well as regular travel for both the planning and evaluation periods. Travel expenses are covered as part of the role.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and ensure the delivery of the On the Water project.

• To manage the temporary Project Assistants at Royal Docks, Midlands and Port Edgar Boat Stations
• Work with the Project Assistants and Growth and Development Workers to enable the effective recruitment of young people, particularly those facing difficulties or disadvantage to the project through recruitment and referrals from local authorities, schools and other relevant bodies
• Devise, plan and implement systems to record and report on the project’s activity, progress and outcomes
• Manage the budget in accordance with the agreed expenditure targets, ensuring that accurate records are maintained
• Ensure the safe and smooth running of delivery in line with all internal policies
• Manage the evaluation, wrap up and future planning of the project
• Ensure the project meets it's targets and funders have timely and accurate reports
• Develop robust monitoring and booking systems and ensure they are rolled out, understood, and used across all 3 sites

Part of the Coram group, Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) is the UK’s specialist centre for children’s rights in education, immigration, community care and family law, and provides significant international legal systems consultancy.The centre is located on the Coram Campus in central London with a base in Colchester. We champion access to justice through information and advice, legal practice and representation, policy and strategic litigation.Our Legal Practice Unit (LPU) provides advice and representation primarily under legal aid contract.Our Policy and Practice Change team promotes practice change through training and capacity building to professionals and secures systems change through research, policy and advocacy.We use our broad and significant experience and expertise to promote and protect the rights of children in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Coram Children’s Legal Centre works with migrant, asylum-seeking and refugee children and young people to ensure that their rights are upheld. At an individual level, we provide one-to-one legal advice through an advice line, outreach advice programme and workshops, as well as legal representation in immigration, asylum and nationality law, and community care law. We also offer a range of free resources and online information. To develop practice, we provide guidance and training to practitioners working with young refugees and migrants. We undertake policy advocacy to protect and promote the rights of migrant children in UK law and policy.

About the role

The purpose of the role is to help children, young people and families understand their position and legal rights and support them to take steps to realise their rights. This role involves the provision of one-off asylum, immigration and nationality law advice and follow-up work to children, young people and families. This role is part of an outreach immigration legal advice team, which seeks to get high-quality immigration legal advice into communities and to those who would otherwise be unable to access it.

The purpose of the role is to empower those in need of immigration, asylum and nationality law, and to work with them – as well as a range of partners – to win change to promote the rights of children and young people affected by UK immigration control. The role involves creating positive relationships with young people and involvement in promoting youth-led change.

The role is responsible for project co-ordination and delivery across immigration advice projects, including advice service design, partnership-building, project planning and meetings, system creation and maintenance, record-keeping, monitoring, internal and funder reporting and other project activities. The role supports CCLC in achieving advice service consistency, meeting targets and ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations.

Gender Synthesis Review Consultant

About the role

Following an external and independent gender synthesis review in 2020, Sightsavers’ Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team is commissioning a second synthesis review on gender equality.

The objectives of this exercise are:

1. To understand what has changed in relation to gender equality in Sightsavers programme planning and implementation since the last gender synthesis in 2020

1. To identify achievements, challenges and gaps in relation to improving gender equality throughout the project cycle

1. To explore the link between strategic direction and implementation, and to identify areas that require strengthening

1. To generate a set of learnings and recommendations that can be applied to our programmatic processes and approaches (design, implementation, SBC, MEL), and further inform our strategic thinking and advocacy plans

The purpose of the review

• To assess the progress that Sightsavers has made in gender mainstreaming (in terms of both process and outcomes), following the previous review in 2020.  How far have we progressed on the recommendations and what more needs to be done.  What progress has been made towards achieving equality or equity for women in our programmes.

• To capture and collate operational learning in a form that is useful to Sightsavers, enabling us to review achievements and challenges (i.e. what works, in which contexts and why, and what is inhibiting progress on gender mainstreaming).

• To identify discussion points and key learning about the organisation’s strategic approach to gender inclusion to make recommendations, where appropriate, on areas that could be strengthened. 

Deliverables

• Write a short inception report in English, covering approach, methods and sources to be used (to include an evaluation matrix). This will be finalised after review by Sightsavers.

• Final report in English, edited after at least two rounds of comments from Sightsavers internal review team, to include an Executive Summary which can be used as a standalone item.

• Short summary document/s or infographic7 covering the key points and recommendations for the main audience groups. 

• Presentation and participation in an internal Sightsavers webinar to share and discuss the gender synthesis findings and recommendations.

About you/your team

Sightsavers welcomes proposals from individual consultants or small teams interested in undertaking this synthesis review. The expected skills and experience include:

• Considerable expertise in gender and particularly, women and girls with disabilities in a developing country context.

• Relevant experience of conducting synthesis reviews of a similar scope/nature. 

• Significant familiarity with the programme themes and contexts in which Sightsavers works.

• Good knowledge and understanding of current gender concepts, trends and discourse in the development context.

• Creative approach to presentation of review findings for key audiences.

• High standard of written and spoken English in appropriate styles for key audiences.

• Sufficient understanding of accessible document design to comply with Sightsavers’ guidance on this (guidance and a briefing will be provided during induction).

You will bring expertise and skills in this field to support the fundraising team and build on the already strong stewardship and engagement we have with key individuals.

An experienced fundraiser or business development professional, you will relish the opportunity to own and launch the strategy and implement a long-term engagement plan to strengthen High Value relationships that will deliver a new and sustainable income stream.

The role is new and on an initial fixed term contract of 12 months but with the potential to make the role permanent if the strategy succeeds.

You're likely to be a seasoned philanthropy professional, ideally with a track record securing gifts.

You will be comfortable in working closely with a Senior Leadership team and Board.

With an understanding of philanthropy and what makes major donors tick, you will also have the appetite and aptitude to develop new relationships from scratch.

The role will be a good mix of stewarding existing relationships and building brand-new ones. Therefore, you will need to be comfortable and confident researching and developing new contacts, harnessing the potential of existing networks and working closely with the wider organisation.

A key part to the role will be to deliver engagement activities, therefore event planning and project management skills are important.
