Do you have a passion for working with children and young people? Do you want to gain hands-on experience in youth and children’s ministry while receiving high-quality training? 

As an apprentice, you will work within a parish to develop and strengthen its children and youth ministry while studying with Ridley London. This three-year apprenticeship leads to a Certificate in Higher Education (Level 4) in Foundations in Theology, Ministry and Mission, with a focus on youth and children’s work. 

You’ll be employed for 21 hours per week, spending 16 hours in the parish and 5 hours studying. Applicants must apply with a linked parish.

• Engaging with children and young people, building positive relationships and supporting their faith journey.
• Helping to lead activities such as Sunday school, messy church, youth groups, and holiday clubs.

We’re looking for a proactive professional to support our mission to transform loneliness into connection among isolated people and under-served groups in Tower Hamlets. We’re looking for a highly skilled and experienced public affairs professional to join our small staff team to lead our public affairs activity and to grow the influence of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition. This is an exciting opportunity to influence positive change at a time of significant policy and political developments.

As Public Affairs Advisor, you will lead on the Coalition’s public affairs and influencing activity. You will be responsible for influencing the Government’s policy and legislative agenda relating to children and young people’s mental health, forging relationships with the new Parliament, and ensuring the Coalition’s views are heard across Westminster and Whitehall.

With over 370 members across the country, our Coalition has a significant potential to extend its influence. Many of our existing members are well placed to influence at a local level through working with their NHS Integrated Care Boards, councils and MPs, but do not always feel confident carrying out public affairs work. As Public Affairs Adviser, you will work with our members to upskill them to carry out their own influencing activity through a series of ‘Learning and Development’ workshops.

You will have Public Affairs experience of developing successful strategies to influence legislation or government policy, have strong knowledge of political systems and processes, have existing networks and contacts, and feel passionate about creating positive change for babies, children and young people.

This is a new role within the Coalition staff team and is generously supported by the Prudence Trust and the Hollick Family Foundation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of the Coalition’s parliamentary influencing strategy.
• Build and maintain relationships with Parliamentarians and other key stakeholders, such as civil servants and special advisers.
• Lead the Coalition’s engagement with Parliament and Government, ensuring strong systems are in place to capture and track engagement.
• Monitor and respond to political and legislative developments affecting our work, making recommendations for responses, and proactively seeking opportunities to further the Coalition’s objectives.
• Provide political intelligence to the staff team, Chair and our members, and help to prepare staff for parliamentary activity as appropriate.
• Produce high quality written briefings, reports and other materials that communicate our messages clearly and effectively to a parliamentary audience. This will also include contributing to other Coalition communications such as media responses, newsletters, blogs, and social media posts.
• Plan and deliver events aimed at political stakeholders, for example, parliamentary events and roundtables.
• Participate in collaborations with other charities for shared influencing activities, for example the Fund the Hubs campaign and the Future Minds campaign.  
• Support work on legislation as appropriate, including drafting amendments.

Working with members

• Regularly engage with members to understand their influencing priorities and to gather insight to help inform the Coalition’s wider influencing priorities.
• Connect Coalition members to decision makers and help spotlight their work, for example, helping to organise visits to services.
• Provide advice to members on engaging with their local decision-makers such as their local MP, Integrated Care Boards and Councillors.
• Deliver workshops with members to share information and skills related to influencing and public affairs activity. For example, this could include delivery of sessions on influencing local systems, working with the government, and legislative processes.  

General

• Work closely with the Coalition Lead, the Policy and Public Affairs Assistant, and Chair of the Coalition to develop and review priorities for the Coalition and support to drive these forwards. You will also be required to work closely with the staff at Centre for Mental Health.

Role Summary

Southwark Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for over 1400 years. Now it stands on the vibrant and exciting regenerated south bank of the Thames surrounded by cultural venues such as Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe and Borough Market, the offices of major companies as well as schools and diverse residential communities. It is an inclusive Christian community that offers a welcome to all.

The Cathedral’s mission, ministry and musical tradition are core to its life as a Cathedral and a parish church serving the community. It also relies on the valuable financial contribution made by its income generating activities such as its shop, café, conference rooms, corporate events and concerts. It is a very busy place, attracting 200,000 visitors a year to the Cathedral, its churchyard and medieval herb garden. The Cathedral relies on a small but dedicated team to be inclusive and welcoming to all.

The Executive Assistant (EA) will provide support to the Chief Operation Officer (COO) to assist them in the effective functioning of all governance, human resources and operational arrangements at the Cathedral.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Support for the COO

• Lead the coordination, preparation, planning and follow up for the COO’s briefing for and attendance at meetings associated with the governance of the Cathedral, including Chapter, Finance Committee, Audit & Risk Committee, Nominations Committee, Fabric Advisory Committee and Board of Enterprises.
• Undertake research and assisting in the drafting and review of papers for such meetings. Minute taking will not usually be required (but may be requested from time to time in liaison with members of staff usually responsible for the minutes);
• Support the COO in all their working relationships including building and maintaining excellent relationships with Chapter Members and Committee Members, the Bishop’s staff and with the wider Diocese, as well as with neighbours, contractors, commercial partners and professional advisers;
• Draft briefs and management reports;
• Assist in the research, writing and preparation of the Cathedral’s Annual Report;
• Assist with the drafting and submission of Cathedral-wide documents, such as the Cathedrals Survey, Peer Review etc.
• Assist with the development of the Cathedral’s strategy and supporting reports and documents;
• Assist the COO with national, royal and high-profile civic events planning;

Senior Leadership Team & Diary

• Collate proposals for events from the Head of Events and Head of Visitor Engagement which need SLT approval and include them under SLT standing item on the agenda;
• On behalf of SLT, chair the weekly operational run-through of the Diary Meeting with Heads of Department and other staff;
• Manage the Cathedral diary in coordination with the Estates Manager – make in-house bookings, input the annual liturgical schedule, make alterations arising from the Diary Meeting;
• Act as the Cathedral’s key contact for the Metropolitan Police’s Southwark Counter Terrorism PROTECT Team – provide them with information (proactively and when requested) on Cathedral events and services of interest to the Police.
  

HR

Recruitment

Support the COO with co-ordination of recruitment for new Cathedral and Southwark Cathedral Enterprises Limited staff, in line with Safer Recruitment best practice;

• Co-ordinate the creation of job descriptions with direction from the COO & Director of HR, in liaison with the relevant Head of Department and line manager for the role being recruited;
• Manage the Cathedral’s recruitment processes – identifying platforms for advertisement, arranging short-listing and interview panels, featuring on shortlisting panels where required;
• Lead with preparations for interview – book rooms, invite candidates to interview, arrange testing and advise on test materials where needed, prepare and advise on interview questions;
• Where required, take part in interview panels;
• Manage the appointment process for new starters – communicate process outcomes to applicants (appointment and rejection communications), pursue references, complete pre-employment checks, liaise with colleagues on DBS check requirements;
• Assist with contract drafting for new appointments in liaison with the COO & Director of HR;
• Manage the induction process for new starters – IT set-up requirements, identification and access cards, ensure a desk space is in place for starters prior to arrival, give starters an IT induction and introduction to the Cathedral diary, familiarise new starters with the Staff Handbook, arrange health & safety inductions with the Property team and introductory meetings with relevant members of staff, and liaise with the Visitor Engagement Officer to enrol new starters on the next available staff tour of the Cathedral;
• Assist the Finance team by obtaining new starter financial information, HMRC Starter Forms and other necessary enrolment information.

Operational HR Support

Human Resources Administration for Staff

• Manage the Cathedral’s digital HR system (Mentor) – be responsible for creating and updating staff profiles, setting up each new leave year, monitoring annual leave & sick leave (reporting on these for KPI and audit purposes where necessary) and being the point of contact for staff who have queries on how to use the system;
• Communicate staff annual leave entitlement and respond to staff queries on leave;   
• Support the Finance team with provision of HR information pertaining to the annual audit and insurance cover, e.g. staff numbers, requested contracts, annual leave summaries;
• Assist the COO with drafting of HR documentation/correspondence;
• Work with the Finance team on the provision of Annual Pay Review letters for all staff;
• Keep the Cathedral’s hard copy and digital HR filing systems up to date, in accordance with GDPR best practice;
• Assist the COO with HR audits;
• Support the COO and Director of HR with the rolling update of the Staff Handbook and Cathedral policies pertaining to HR;
• Develop and use process checklists for the HR function, including recruitment, induction, appraisal and exit;
• Oversee the administration of the appraisal and performance management process – liaise with managers to provide templates, resources and advice and ensure these are completed on time and to a high standard;
• Record staff training;
• Liaise with the Diocesan Director of HR for advice and support when queries relating to staff or HR situations arise.

Terms and Conditions

Working Hours

The working hours shall be 35 per hours a week, exclusive of meal breaks. Some out of hours working will be required to support meetings and events and this will be notified in advance. Time off in lieu will be awarded in line with Southwark Cathedral’s policy.

Annual Leave

25 days paid leave per annum including statutory bank holidays and an extra day at Christmas.

Probation

The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.

Season ticket loan

Once the probationary period has been completed satisfactorily, the person appointed will be eligible to take out a season ticket loan.

Pension

The person appointed will be eligible to join a defined contributions pension scheme managed by the Church Workers Pension Fund. The Cathedral will contribute half of the annual premium of 10% of salary.

Working Expenses

Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

About the Youth Endowment Fund 

We’re here to prevent children from becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to change things.  

In recent years, violent crime involving children has increased. This is a tragedy. Every child is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment that exists to reverse this trend. We will achieve this by finding out what works to prevent youth violence and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice. We do this by funding, evaluating and then spreading the very best work on reducing youth violence across England and Wales. 

Key Responsibilities 

Your focus will be to ensure that the office environment at YEF is a welcoming and inclusive one, being the first point of contact for new starters, employees and external stakeholders. You will be dedicated, in ensuring that the office environment is set up for employees to have a positive, collaborative and engaging experience while working from the office. With key responsibilities for general HR administration, office management and supporting with the coordination of our team culture work, you will naturally enjoy having variety within your day-to-day work and proactively seek solutions to aid better efficient and effective management of our daily HR and operations.

Office Management 

Ensure the physical and virtual spaces in which we work at YEF are excellently managed and a welcoming place to work. This would include: 

• Being a strong and personable office lead. Be welcoming to colleagues new and old and make an ongoing effort to integrate them into the team. 

• Ensuring that the office space is well managed including well stocked office supplies and refreshments. 

• Leading monthly social team activities that foster a sense of belonging. 

• Ensuring we have the systems to make collaboration really easy, liaising directly with our IT supplier and pointing out areas of improvement or discussing how things can be done better. 

HR administration 

Help ensure that projects related to HR or supporting people are done brilliantly. This may require you getting stuck in with some administrative tasks or keeping track of who needs to do what by when. 

• Helping to organise the annual appraisal of staff (setting up and collecting in forms and making sure everyone knows what’s going on) so that everyone learns and develops. 

• Making sure the online system we use for employee records is up to date, well organised and that someone technical fixes things if needed.

• Ensuring that the policies we have (on things like pay, holidays, being in the office etc). are easy for staff to find and that someone is prompted to remind staff about them regularly. 

• Coming to know our staff policies inside out, so that staff can go to you to get a question answered. 

Help us recruit brilliant people by:

• Supporting the administration of the end-to-end recruitment process, such advertising jobs online, arranging interviews, managing candidate correspondences and the keeping up to date records. 

• Assisting in the first phase of CV reviews (spotting great people). 

• Organising and managing all new starter documentation, such as; right to work, references, issuing of an employee contract and DBS’s (where appropriate) 

• Ensuring new staff have the right equipment and IT on day one. Being the go-to person for their administrative questions. 

• Onboarding new team members on our office space and IT systems 

General administration 

Make sure some of most important meetings are incredibly effective. You’ll do this by 

• Organising those meetings (booking rooms, inviting people), taking great minutes, making sure we keep track of things we said we would do and saving the documents in the right place.

• Working really well with colleagues to organise documents and information for reports. 

• Supporting people, you work most closely with (the wider operations team) on some of the more important processes, including audits and document maintenance. 

Team Culture 

You will be passionate about supporting to maintain a strong values-led team culture and able to demonstrate what that means.

• Supporting our Culture Lead to prepare and deliver excellently planned and engaging quarterly team away days. This includes visiting event spaces, managing catering and providing excellent support on the day – including activities. 

• Organising onboarding schedules and ensuring smooth delivery of sessions. 

• Noticing when colleagues are less well connected to the team and working with the Culture Lead to support their integration.

Office Working​

We have also seen large increases in violent crime involving children and young people. This is a tragedy. Key Responsibilities

Your role is to ensure YEF’s funding is directed toward the most crucial gaps in evidence – those that, if filled, will lead to meaningful change for young people. You will oversee the selection of the most promising, evaluable interventions to test in England and Wales, ensure trials are set up successfully, and work with our Evaluation team to deliver high-quality impact evaluations.

More specifically, you will:

Provide team and organisational leadership

• Provide inspirational leadership to the Programmes Team of ten people, ensuring they are best-in-class at supporting delivery organisations to engage in robust evaluation.

• Oversee the Programmes team, including direct line management of four Programme & Impact Leads.

• Ensure the expertise within the Programmes Team is embedded in YEF’s wider work, drawing on the team’s experience of working with delivery organisations to help shape policy and practice recommendations.

• Represent YEF externally, ensuring our funding programmes are well understood and aligned with our sectors’ needs.

• Directly contribute to annual and multi-year planning as part of YEF’s operational planning cycle.

• Be responsible for tracking and reporting progress against our key organisational performance metrics. 

• Help build and model a culture where it is natural to perform well, and colleagues support one another to do so.

Hold strategic oversight of new evaluation commissioning

• Work with the Assistant Director of Evaluation to shape and implement YEF’s strategy for programme and evaluation commissioning. 

• Oversee the team in identifying and developing proposals for new trials within our main sectors. 

• Assess the feasibility and strategic value of evaluation proposals, making stop/go decisions on their progression.

• Ensure the Programmes Team effectively supports grantees to work with evaluators to co-design interventions and develop clear, robust plans for trial setup and delivery.

• Oversee the development of high-quality proposals for new trials, assuring quality and presenting clear recommendations for our Grants and Evaluation Committee.

Be responsible for the ongoing oversight of the full portfolio of evaluations 

• Lead and be accountable for delivering on YEF’s Race Equity commitments within our funding decisions and grant delivery.

• Serve as a senior escalation point for a portfolio of c.50 live trials, maintaining oversight of progress across our portfolio of live trials and intervening early when we spot risks.

• Oversee the financial management of the team’s project portfolio across c.50 live trials, ensuring effective budget oversight, approving grant payments, and maintaining financial accountability.

• Provide direct advice and guidance to the Programmes Team on the setup and delivery of our most complex trials.

• Ensure the rapid mobilisation of new trials following approval.

Build meaningful partnerships and strengthen the organisation’s influence

• Be responsible for partnership opportunities with central Government—holding key relationships, assessing the strategic value of co-funded evaluation projects, and overseeing Heads of Evaluation to negotiate new partnerships terms.

• Steward strategic relationships with other key stakeholders, including other research and policy organisations, funders, and delivery organisations that will help us influence change.

• Represent the Fund on boards, committees and events, including providing up-to-date information to external audiences on YEF-funded activity, and sitting on the board of external organisations linked to YEF’s work.

• Be proactive in identifying co-funding opportunities and ensuring fundraising targets are met for new and existing evaluations.

• You are experienced in building partnerships: You have a strong track record of building partnerships that drive change.

• You are an excellent communicator: You produce high-quality documents that communicate methodological and statistical information in a way that is easily understood. You excel at translating complex evidence and analysis into clear, accessible formats for non-experts.

Hybrid Working

We are excited to be recruiting for a new Special Events Assistant to join  the Special Events and Celebrity Engagement team who sit within the St Mungo’s Philanthropy Team. We organise events and manage celebrity relationships, with the aim of spreading awareness and supporting our mission to rebuild lives and end rough sleeping.

The new role of Special Events Assistant will give you the opportunity to support the team in planning and delivering engaging events that highlight our clients' stories and the impact of our work, inspiring audiences to start or continue their support. Your role will include assisting with the planning and delivery of events, maintaining good relationships with internal and external stakeholders, managing event communications and collateral, processing data accurately and securely. This role offers a chance to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact. Other key responsibilities include:

• Assist with the planning and delivery of special events, working closely with the Special Events and Celebrity Engagement Manager.
• Work with teams across St Mungo’s, including our Philanthropy and Partnerships teams, to help create and deliver engaging events for donors and partners that contribute to achieving wider team objectives.
• Provide excellent supporter care and customer service, responding to event enquiries and co-ordinating event communications.
• Provide admin support to the Special Events function, ensuring the database (Raiser’s Edge NXT) is accurately maintained and up to date for events, and you’ll assist with reporting and gathering insights post-event.
• Follow fundraising best practices, adhere to St Mungo’s policies, and contribute to a supportive team culture.

About you

We are looking for someone with a proactive approach to learning and a passion for making a difference. You might already be in a similar role, have some previous experience in organising events or may be looking to bring transferable skills and a willingness to learn, to the role. About the oppurtunity

The London Programme Coordinator will be responsible for managing a caseload of up to seven partner schools, attending and coordinating weekly tutoring sessions, developing relationships with pupils, school staff and volunteer tutors and collecting data for monitoring and evaluation purposes. This role plays a crucial part in overseeing the quality of face to face and online tutoring sessions to ensure effective and impactful programme delivery.

Duties and responsibilities 

• Responsible for the delivery of Action Tutoring’s tutoring programmes in partner schools, whether online or face to face. This includes working closely to manage and effectively communicate with all key stakeholders: schools, pupils and volunteer tutors; leading weekly face to face and online tutoring sessions; leading on reviewing and improving programme delivery, using data to reliably assess programme performance.

• Responsible for overseeing the quality of both face to face and online tutoring, engaging in quality assurance processes, and providing feedback to volunteer tutors to ensure effective and impactful delivery.

• Develop and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders in partner schools, including members of the Senior Leadership Team and subject teachers.

• Update and maintain Action Tutoring’s database, including collecting data for monitoring and evaluation purposes, such as attendance records, baseline and interim assessments and end of programme surveys. Reporting regularly on key performance indicators.

Qualifications and experience criteria:

• Experience working with volunteers and/or young people

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Evidence of ability to prioritise and manage administrative tasks

Reports to: London Programme Manager

Salary: £28,639 per annum (£26,368 per annum, plus London weighting of £2,271)

Contract and hours:  Permanent, full time contract (37.5 hours)
We offer flexible hours 9.30-4pm as core hours.
