Debt Advisor

The Advice Services directorate at Toynbee Hall is central to our commitment to address and alleviate poverty in London and beyond. Specialising in debt, welfare benefits, legal support, and generalist advice, our directorate has proven instrumental in significantly enhancing the financial wellbeing of those we serve. Scope of role

The Debt Advisor is responsible for providing comprehensive, video debt advice to prisoners across thirteen (13) HMPPS sites, tailored to their specific circumstances. This role involves conducting detailed interviews to understand clients’ financial problems, researching options, and helping clients make informed decisions. The advisor ensures income maximisation and provides ongoing casework support, acting on behalf of clients where necessary. Maintaining up-to-date case records and staying informed about relevant legislation, policies, and procedures are crucial aspects of the role. The Debt Advisor is also expected to complete continuous professional development and contribute to the team’s overall objectives by meeting targets, prioritising workloads, and demonstrating financial efficiency. The may also be required to attend meetings on-site at various prisons and host workshops for prisoners.

Key Responsibilities

Accurate, effective and individually tailored advice

• Interviewing those that access our service using sensitive listening and questioning skills to allow them to explain their problem(s) and empower them to set their own priorities.
• Researching and exploring options and implications so that those accessing our service can make informed decisions.
• Providing in-depth quality advice and on-gong casework, including acting for the client where necessary using appropriate communication skills and channels.

Detailed case records

• Maintaining detailed case records, ensuring that all work meets all auditing and quality standards and the requirements of the funder.
• Ensuring all case records and written up in a timely manner.

Up-to-date training

• Completing a minimum of 16 hours/ equivalent of technical debt advice DPD accredited training or qualifying activity.
• Maintaining an up-to-date record of all training sessions.

Teamwork

• Work to an agreed work-plan, meeting targets and milestones, whilst prioritising and managing your own workload.
• Be an active member of the team, identifying opportunities for your own development, and demonstrating financial efficiency and value for money throughout your work.

These roles are known internally as Senior Individual Giving Executive – Direct Dialogue.

Salary

The salary for this position is £36,654 per annum and we operate a hybrid working model of a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

Key Responsibilities

This is a varied role encompassing:

Future Dreams is a pioneering breast cancer charity committed to delivering psychological, practical and emotional support to those diagnosed with the disease throughout the UK. They raise awareness of the importance of early detection and diagnosis through breast health masterclasses, equipping individuals, institutions and corporates with knowledge of signs and symptoms of breast cancer. Their work also funds groundbreaking research into secondary breast cancer, pushing the boundaries of innovation in breast cancer care and prevention.

At the heart of the mission is Future Dreams House in Kings Cross, the UK's only dedicated breast cancer support centre, offering nationwide assistance both in person and online through a comprehensive programme of support services, community meet-ups and 1-2-1 sessions with specialist breast care nurses, counsellors and therapists.

You will lead on identifying and engaging potential new partners, creating compelling proposals, and designing campaigns to drive corporate donations. As the primary point of contact for corporate partners, you'll build strong, lasting relationships, ensuring support is recognised and maximised through ongoing communication and tailored engagement. The role also involves negotiating sponsorship and cause-related marketing opportunities, delivering against fundraising targets, and closely monitoring partnership performance.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Head of Children and Young People’s Services, to join an ambitious healthcare charity based in Leatherhead.

As Head of Children and Young People’s Services, you will be lead, manage and develop the services in this area, providing overarching leadership, and management.

The Head of the department needs to monitor the needs of the service, and where possible find creative and innovative ways to develop the service and address growing and changing needs. Key responsibilities include leading on the delivery of outputs and outcomes of a number of grant funded services, planning and managing the departmental budget for the Children and Young People’s Service and regular reporting to Surrey County Council, Services Committee, Trustee Board, and funders as required. You will work to support and supervise the team of staff and volunteers and provide information, support and advice for children and their families /carers.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding individual who is passionate about providing high-quality care and support for children and young people, and who can lead and manage with strategic vision and operational excellence. Extensive experience of working with children, young people and families that has included the overarching responsibility for Safeguarding children and young people is crucial, as is a strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks and best practices. The ability to travel extensively throughout Surrey is a must.

Purpose of the Role

UR4Driving is one of The Upper Room’s key projects, designed to support ex-offenders and young people at risk of criminal involvement. By offering structured support to gain a driving licence, the programme helps individuals rebuild confidence, develop self-discipline, and create new opportunities—ultimately reducing the risk of reoffending and encouraging long-term positive change.
The Project Manager will lead the delivery and development of UR4Driving, overseeing its day-to-day operations, strategic direction, financial management, and team supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Promote and publicise the UR4Driving project; manage referral partner relationships and represent the project at relevant meetings across London, including in prisons and probation settings.
• Conduct service user inductions and ensure motivational group sessions are delivered, working with internal and external facilitators.
• Oversee all project administration, including attendance monitoring, driving test bookings, volunteer expenses, and service user case records.
• Identify barriers to progression for service users and facilitate support or referrals as appropriate.
• Manage the project budget in line with financial procedures, including petty cash and invoice approvals.
• Source and oversee driving instructors, ensuring quality, alignment with TUR values, and timely progress updates.
• Work with the Chief Executive and Finance Officer to ensure project spend remains within budget.
• Support fundraising efforts by providing project data, stories, and insights.
• Monitor service user progress and track outcomes post-engagement, maintaining accurate records.
• Contribute to the evaluation and reporting processes, including quarterly and annual reports.
• Maintain up-to-date stock and resources within budget.
• Line manage the UR4Driving Co-ordinator, providing support, guidance, and supervision.

Person Specification

Experience & Abilities

• Proven experience delivering structured programmes or training for socially excluded groups, ideally ex-offenders.
• Confident delivering motivational sessions and one-to-one support.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Comfortable managing budgets and financial processes.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building positive relationships.
• Experience working with external partners and stakeholders across sectors.

Qualifications

• Educated to NVQ Level 3 or above (desirable).
• IAG or relevant advisory/support qualification (desirable).

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of the barriers faced by ex-offenders and relevant legislation (e.g. Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974).
• Familiarity with resettlement pathways and their practical applications.
• Proficiency in MS Office and experience using databases and reporting tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to engage and motivate a wide range of audiences.
• Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive practice.
