We are looking to recruit casual workers to cover shifts as and when required in our Supported Accommodation Hostel. This is a varied role and an excellent way of gaining experience in the homelessness sector, specifically working with Young People. Casual Workers provide first contact, safeguarding and support to the residents in our Supported Accommodation services. The post-holder will be responsible for controlling access to the building, dealing with emergencies, carrying out Health and Safety checks and communicating any concerns or events to the rest of the team. You will also collaborate with team members and support the team in their work with residents.
Shifts may include but are not limited to:
a. ‘Early’ (8am – 4pm)
b. ‘Late’ (12.30 – 8.30pm)
c. ‘Waking Night’ (8.15pm – 8.15am)

Some of the things you would be responsible for as a Community Manager:

- Lead and implement a culture which provides confidentiality, promotes professional boundaries, protects data, and safeguards Companions, Volunteers and staff.
- To manage support relating to Companion’s needs regarding their daily living requirements, physical and mental health, safety and personal development.
- To assist and encourage Companions to move into independent accommodation where appropriate
- Ensure that effective Safeguarding systems are in place and maintained, acting as the organisation’s Designated Safeguarding Person, with delegated responsibility for policy development, implementation, and reporting.
- Working in partnership with the Retail Manager, facilitate, encourage, and support companion engagement and training within the social enterprises to ensure they are viable businesses.
- Assist the Multi Site Property and Facilities Manager in the upkeep and maintenance of the Community, to ensure that it provides a pleasant and comfortable home for the Companions, whilst adhering to health and safety requirements.

About the role:
This role is based in our office at Whitecross Studio's, 50 Banner Street, London, with flexibility of hybrid working. The role requires travelling to other VS offices across London.
As a Senior Children and Young Persons Caseworker, you will be required to:
- Conduct comprehensive needs and risk assessments and ensure each CYP receives an individual tailored support package that fully meets their identified needs, including safety planning, advocacy, emotional and practical support.
- Provide one to one support to children and young people living in families affected by domestic abuse.
- Effectively manage a caseload of different risk level cases of approx. 10 and provide specialist support to reduce the risk and increase safety
- Review the assessment of risk on an ongoing basis, ensuring appropriate and immediate action is taken in respect of any CYP facing significant harm, making the necessary referrals to MARAC and local safeguarding processes as required given the legal framework relating to the protection of children and the policy and procedures of the Local Safeguarding Children's Board.
- To consult with and involve children and young people in making decisions about themselves and the development of the service.
- Establish links with relevant statutory partners in Social Care, Education, Health, Police and Housing, with the intention of supporting children and young people who have been impacted by crime. Attend meetings as required.
- To advocate on behalf of children and young people affected by crime, to ensure the diverse needs of children and young people using the service are met.
- Manage up to 4 staff, conducting supervisions and case reviews, supporting and coaching your staff in their practice and personal development.
You will need to have the following essential skills:
- Experience of working directly with vulnerable children and young people aged 5 - 17, on a one to one basis, with a proven ability to work in creative and appropriate ways to engage with children and young people
- Experience with assessing risk and taking appropriate action to safeguard children and young people
- An understanding of the current issues for children and young people experiencing crime, including Serious youth violence, Sexual Violence, Domestic abuse and relationship abuse
- Experience of delivering effective multi-agency and partnership work, including building relationships with statutory and voluntary CYP service providers
- Effective organisational skills, including experience with planning, prioritising, managing crises and a caseload, and maintaining accurate and confidential case records
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills and Excellent IT skills including Word, Excel, databases, internet and Outlook

You’ll manage a diverse caseload of pecuniary, residuary, and life interest legacies. Your role will involve preparing briefing notes for Trustees, managing estate and trust account reconciliations, and ensuring that taxes, including Capital Gains, Income, and Inheritance Tax, are handled correctly, safeguarding Guide Dogs’ interests. You’ll also protect Guide Dogs’ position when property or land is involved, securing necessary valuations to achieve the best possible value. Additionally, you will stay up to date with changes in probate, tax, and trust law, ensuring your approach is always in line with the latest regulations and practices.

Strategy and planning

Selection is based on an assessment of the evidence you provide against the requirements of the role as set out in the person specification. It is important that you tailor your response to clearly demonstrate how you meet each requirement. No assumptions will be made about your achievements and abilities.
Please provide one example for each requirement. You should choose examples of past experience that clearly demonstrate what we are looking for, and be precise about what you did, how you did it and the outcome or result of your actions. Please try to limit your response to each criterion to a maximum of 200 words.
A useful guide might be S.T.A.R:
- Specific – give a specific example
- Task – briefly describe the task/objective/problem
- Action – tell us what you did
- Results – describe what results were achieved
Please provide recent work examples wherever possible. However, do remember that relevant examples from other aspects of your life, for example: voluntary or unpaid work, school or college work, family or home responsibilities, can also be given.

Interview Process:

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by telephone, so please give a daytime telephone number or somewhere we can leave a message to arrange an interview.
Our selection process consists of three stages:
- Stage 1 – Telephone Interview:
Initial interviews will take place via telephone on Thursday 15th May 2025.
- Stage 2 – Formal Interview (In-Person):
Candidates who are successful at Stage 1 will be invited to our Stevenage office for a formal face-to-face interview on Monday 19th May 2025.
- Stage 3 – Practical Activity & Final Q&A:
Following the formal interview, candidates will complete a short activity and have the opportunity to ask any final questions.
Please note that Stages 2 and 3 will take place on the same day.
