About us
Who we are
Emmaus Greenwich (pronounced em-MAY-us) is a homelessness charity with a difference. We don’t just give people a bed for the night; we offer a home, work opportunities and a sense of belonging. We currently provide a home and meaningful work opportunities for up to 45 people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.
Work is an integral part of our community life, and the social enterprise side of any Emmaus community helps to generate the income that will ultimately make each of them self-sustaining, something every community is working towards.
We regularly offer support to anyone sleeping rough or struggling with poverty in London through our Street Souls outreach service, but we also carry out and engage in many one-off events, fundraising and volunteering activities, and donations to people and communities in need.
The main business activity for us is collecting donated furniture and household goods and selling them in our 3 shops in London, and on our eBay store.
Our culture and values
Emmaus Greenwich offers support, work opportunities, and a home for as long as it is needed for people who have experienced homelessness. We run social enterprises throughout South London, the proceeds of which go straight back into our community.
Alongside our three charity shops based in Plumstead, Lewisham and Poplar, Emmaus Greenwich runs a house clearance service with all proceeds going towards helping people overcome homelessness. We also run regular outreach projects, offering support to some of the most vulnerable people in the capital. Our Street Souls drop-in events take place regularly in Greenwich, and offer hot food, warm clothing, and help and advice to people who are experiencing financial difficulties.
There are currently more than 30 Emmaus communities and groups across UK, supporting more than 850 companions.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Emmaus UK provides equal opportunity for all job applicants and employees and is committed to providing a work environment free of discrimination. We are dedicated to an inclusive culture, and we strive to create a workplace where teams of people with diverse backgrounds, characteristics, perspectives, ideas, and experiences work together. We welcome applications from all individuals irrespective of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion or belief, disability, marital status, or parental responsibilities.
