We’re a small, creative and fast-growing charity that was established from inside The Economist in 2012. We support children, aged 10 to 16, from under-served backgrounds to develop essential skills for the modern world. We do this by enabling them to join inspiring discussions about the news, which teach them to think critically, communicate effectively and understand global issues.
Our activities
Our programme, Topical Talk, brings about these discussions in four ways:
- We create world-class teaching resources for classroom discussions about global news stories
- We run Topical Talk Festival: the only news festival for young people. Children from countries all over the world join discussions with each other and global experts; and they work towards publishing their opinions in written, audio and film format for the chance to win awards
- We offer Topical Talk Prizes: collections of resources for a series in-depth discussions about a big global issue or theme, following which students submit their work for the chance to win prizes
- We train and support teachers to bring high-quality news discussions into their classrooms; including through intensive, in-person community partnerships in the UK, US and Nigeria
Our impact
Children who take part in Topical Talk can make seven times more progress compared to their peers in creativity, problem-solving, open-minded listening and confident speaking. These skills are linked with better outcomes at school, in employment and as citizens. Our programme has received international recognition, including by HundrED as one of the top 100 educational initiatives of 2020 and 2021, and as first-prize winner of the UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Awards 2022.
Our ambitions
We are at an exciting point in our trajectory. We have demonstrated huge growth potential, going from a small UK pilot in 2013 to working with thousands of teachers globally today, including on-the-ground work in the UK and US. There is still an enormous unmet need, so we have bold plans to reach one million children in 2026, with 100,000 engaging on a weekly basis.
THE ROLE
We’re looking for a qualified teacher or ex-teacher who is excited to play a hands-on role in our team, training and building relationships with Topical Talk teachers in the UK and internationally.
You’ll be responsible, alongside our Teacher Engagement and Development Lead, for supporting teachers to get the most from Topical Talk programmes. You’ll do this by building strong relationships with a range of individual teachers, school groups (for example multi-academy trusts) and organisations. You'll be confident communicating with and motivating teachers, and delivering inspiring teacher training in a range of settings in the UK and internationally. You’ll also work directly with 10- to 16-year-old students on a regular basis, to model lessons to teachers, deliver workshops and facilitate online discussions.
From time to time you will work with our content team to give input into the creation of interactive lessons on news topics. You’ll share ideas for class activities or topics, join idea-generation and feedback sessions, and occasionally draft lessons yourself.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and deliver teacher training and support to maximise impact of Topical Talk (40%)
- Work with the Teacher Engagement and Development Lead to design and deliver online and in-person teacher training that supports and inspires teachers to run Topical Talk lessons regularly
- Visit schools to observe, and occasionally teach, Topical Talk lessons
- Collect data, such as case studies and progress reports, to help evaluate the impact of Topical Talk
- Test and evaluate different approaches to teacher support in order to continually improve how we work with teachers
Engage students with Topical Talk lessons (30%)
- Deliver inspiring workshops and lessons about the news to young people aged 10 to 16 globally
- Co-plan and present Live Lessons to a global audience
- Facilitate online discussions between young people during Topical Talk Festivals
- Collaborate with the content team to share ideas, give feedback and occasionally draft lessons about the news
Build and nurture effective relationships with teachers, school groups and organisations (30%)
- Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, local education authorities, school districts or multi-academy trusts, to make Topical Talk a long-term success in the schools
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of Topical Talk in depth in these schools or communities, using evidence to recommend programme-wide changes
- Work with the Head of Marketing and Teacher Engagement Development Lead to recruit schools to participate in Topical Talk Festival, liaising with teachers and persistently following up as needed
- Support teachers to get ready to participate in the Topical Talk Festival, including briefing them, guiding them through the sign-up process and answering their questions / troubleshooting
This role will involve international travel so a valid passport is required. It also involves working with young people, so you will need to have an enhanced DBS check (which The Foundation will organise).

- A proven track record of planning, analysing and reporting on projects

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our Education Team. This role will require the successful candidate to support an integrated and holistic approach to education, health and care, work under the direct supervision of an allocated teacher / senior specialist teaching assistant, support access to learning and provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils in learning opportunities and to assist the teacher in providing relevant support for pupils with severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and complex therapeutic, medical and health needs.

Role Requirements
STL1 – Provide support for Learning Activities set by Classteacher & Senior Specialist Teaching Assistant
- To support learning activities for individual, groups or whole classes of pupils, leading activities under the direction of the teacher or Senior Teaching Assistant supporting the teacher in their delivery of lessons.
- To demonstrate our School Ethos and Pupil Charter throughout the School day.
- Holistically integrate education, health and care needs.
- Evaluate and record procedures for learning activities.
- To know individual learning targets for each pupil in the group(s) and take specific action to enable individual pupil goals be achieved.
- To attend to the general care, maintenance and storage of classroom equipment.
STL 2 – Support Children’s Development
- Observe pupils, sharing observational findings, contribute to the implementation of activities to support development.
- Actively contribute towards record-keeping particularly in respect of pupil learning, therapeutic interventions, behaviour management, child protection and any other specific programme set up for individual pupils by the teacher / Senior Specialist Teaching Assistant / Therapist.
STL 3 – Help to keep Children Safe
- Undertake annual safeguarding training.
- Adhere to the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures and policies. Recording incidents pertaining to pupil safety, including for illness, accidents and incidents, accepting that Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and that ‘it could happen here’.
- Read relevant documentation / mandatory reads in relation to Keeping Children Safe In Education.
- Report any signs and indicators of possible abuse, being sensitive to the child/young person and circumstances, Identifying, report and record changes in behaviour and physical signs.
- Be aware of and follow plans, risk assessments and record keeping pertaining to individual pupils, including care plans, health care plans, feeding plans, moving and handling and behaviour management plans, actively engaging in relevant training and competencies offered to ensure that you are able to support in keeping all pupils in the class safe.
- Ensure safe transport for all pupils in the class for off site visits.
STL 4 – Contribute to Positive Relationships
- Interact with and respond positively and professionally, to pupils and adults, including colleagues, other professionals and parents/ carers at all times.
- Work collaboratively as part of a class and wider School and organisational team.
- Actively support change where it is required to improve the teaching, learning and meeting of our pupils needs.
STL 5 – Provide Effective Support for your Colleagues
- Work effectively as a team member, being aware of and providing support to colleagues when needed.
- Embrace training and competencies to ensure that all staff in a class team are able to support each other.
- Complete all ‘Universal level training’.
STL 6 / STL 39 – Support Literacy and Numeracy Activities, Communication and Interaction Needs
- Support the delivery of appropriate communication, language and literacy as well as the learning targets related to cognition to individuals, small groups and whole classes of pupils, providing accurate support and feedback to the teacher and pupils.
STL 7 / STL 8 – Support and use Information Communication Technology (ICT) for Teaching and Learning
- Prepare commonly used ICT for use in lessons and be aware of and be able to use hardware and software commonly used in the school.
- Be aware of individual pupil’s specific needs as assessed by teachers and therapists and apply relevant recommendations.
- Support the delivery of lessons including ICT to individuals, small groups and whole classes of pupils.
STL 9 – Observe and Report of Pupil Performance
- Against intended learning targets be able to observe and complete assessments with teaching support.
- Support the classteacher in providing evidence (observational notes, photographs, videos) presenting in the appropriate format to assist the evaluation of evidence relating to the pupils’ stage of development.
- Be able to clearly explain and answer questions / justify your evidence of pupil performance to the teacher.
- Observe school policies and procedures for confidentiality of information about pupils.
STL 10 – Support Children’s Play and Learning
- To promote and support age-appropriate play for pupils.
- To supervise and actively encourage play and leisure activities during playtimes taking an active role in the organisation of play, leisure and recreational activities.
STL 11 – Contribute to supporting Bilingual / Multilingual Pupils
- When applicable be aware of the first language of pupils and their parents.
STL 12 / STL 38 – Support a Child with Disabilities or Special Educational Needs and Their Families
- Be confident in each of the pupils needs in the classroom and the relevant strategies that are required to support them.
- See the pupil as a ‘whole’ and integrate their education, health and care needs throughout their day.
- Support pupils with communication and interaction, cognition and learning, behaviour, emotional and social development needs and pupils sensory and/or physical needs.
STL 13 – Contribute to Moving and Handling Individuals
- Follow agreed Moving and Handling plans as prescribed by therapists undertaking relevant training and competencies prior to do any of the below:
- Carry out moves and changes of position taking account of the individual’s needs, preferences and their advice on the most appropriate methods and equipment.
- Use moving and handling methods appropriate to the individual’s condition, your personal handling limits and the equipment available.
- Move and change individual’s positions in ways which minimise pain, discomfort and friction and maximise the individual’s independence, self-respect and dignity.
- Observe, record and immediately report any significant changes in the individual’s condition when you are moving them.
- Record details of methods of moving and handling which the individual finds acceptable according to legal and organisational requirements.
- Undertake therapeutic programmes that have been developed by physio and occupational therapists.
STL 14 – Support Individuals during Therapy Sessions
- Receive relevant training from therapists and then implement training and competencies throughout the pupils’ day.
- Be able to articulate the purpose of programmes and ensure their delivery in an integrated way.
- Work with individuals to identify the effectiveness of the therapy sessions on their health and social well-being.
- Check observations with appropriate people and against agreed outcomes.
- Identify any issues or problems in relation to the therapy sessions and work with individuals, key people and others to identify and agree changes to the therapy sessions.
- Record and report on therapy sessions within confidentiality agreements and according to legal and organisational requirements.
STL 16 – Provide Displays
- To produce and maintain displays in accordance with the school’s Display Policy.
- To ensure that Information Governance and Confidentiality is applied to any information that you are privy to.
STL 19 / STL 37 / STL 41 – Promote Positive Behaviour
- Highlight and praise positive aspects of pupils’ behaviour appropriate to the individual.
- Recognise patterns and triggers which may lead to inappropriate behavioural responses and take appropriate action to pre-empt problems.
- Encourage the team to support pupils consistently and regularly review their own behaviours to model intended outcomes.
- Provide feedback to relevant people on progress made by any pupils with a behaviour support plan in line with the school’s Behaviour Policy.
- Implement individual pupil behaviour management programmes if required.
STL 31 – Prepare and Maintain the Learning Environment
- Prepare the learning environment to meet the needs of individual pupils.
- Support the teacher in the preparation of resources needed for lessons by gathering and appropriately positioning them for access.
- To ensure that pupils are in the right place at the right time in the right clothing with the appropriate equipment in the correct position.
STL 40 – Support Pupils with Cognition and Learning Needs
- Implement agreed strategies to support pupils with cognition and learning difficulties to learn.
- Sequence and structure learning environment and experiences ensuring adequate time.
- Consistently apply visual, auditory, object and tactile cues.
- Provide an appropriate level of assistance to enable the pupil to experience a sense of achievement, maintain self-esteem and self-confidence and encourage self-help skills.
- Listen carefully to the pupil and positively encourage him/her to communicate his/her needs and ideas.
STL 42 – Support Pupils with Sensory and/or Physical Needs
- Obtain accurate and up-to-date information about: a the nature and level of the pupil’s sensory and/or physical needs and apply to the pupil’s learning needs, planned learning tasks and activities.
- With support adapt the layout of the learning environment and the equipment used to enable the pupil with sensory and/or physical needs to access and maximise learning opportunities.
- Encourage the pupil to actively participate in learning tasks and activities consistent with his/her developmental level, physical abilities and any medical conditions.
- Ensure that any specialist equipment is used appropriately to maintain the pupil’s comfort and maximise his/her participation in learning tasks and activities.
- Give appropriate assistance to enable the pupil to experience a sense of achievement and encourage independence.
- Positively reinforce the pupil’s efforts to participate in learning tasks and activities.
STL 43 – Assist in the Administration of Medication
- Apply standard precautions for infection control and other relevant health and safety measures.
- Report any discrepancies or omissions you might find to the person in control of the administration and to relevant staff as appropriate.
- Be aware of School procedures.
- Contribute to administering and record keeping of medication to individuals in the appropriate manner, using the correct techniques according to the care plan if signed off as competent in doing so.
- Ensure the security of medications throughout the process and ensure all medication is stored in the correct safe place when administration is complete.
STL 4 – Meet their Personal Support Needs
- Attend to pupils’ personal care needs as and when necessary ensuring care and dignity at all times.
- Assist with the organisation of refreshments and mealtimes, feeding individual pupils where necessary including feeding by gastric tube after receiving the necessary training.
- Support pupils in the water and assist with swimming and or hydrotherapy programmes.
PDR – Take part in School Staff Development Procedures
- Take part in a performance management programme and work towards specific pupil progress and professional development targets.
- Take part in a staff induction programme, and pursue other training opportunities as agreed with the line manager.
- Take part in staff development days, class team meetings, departmental meetings, whole staff meetings and other occasional meetings held in usual working hours.
- To support students and volunteers who work within the classroom from time to time.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Shop Manager to join our Dorking Team. As a Shop Manager, you will be reporting to the Retail Operations Manager. Your role will be to be responsible and accountable for maximising shop profit by achieving budgeted income, controlling shop expenditure in line with budget and recruiting and retaining a motivated team of volunteers.

Role Requirements
Income generation
To manage the Retail budget to achieve agreed targets:
• To maximise shop sales by achieving agreed targets both through donated stock and bought in/new goods. This involves proactive stock generation, optimum pricing, processing stock to agreed amounts and stock planning.
• Achieve Gift Aid sales conversion target through maximising new donor sign up and encouraging repeat donations.
• Achieve the shops Raffle sales targets through involving the shops team.
• To maintain high levels of shop presentation by merchandising and housekeeping to agreed standards as set out in the Shops Operations manual.
• Manage the stock levels of bought in/new goods, to include ordering of more stock as and when necessary and recording key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Assist in holding and attending Fundraising events to promote the awareness of The Children’s Trust.
• To source links with local communities to promote Retail in the community via media and other sources.
• Role involves a degree of manual handling in sorting and lifting of stock.
Administration and compliance
To ensure adherence to The Children’s Trust policies and procedures, in particular ensuring full compliance of the shops in line with all Health & Safety legislation, Trading Standards, Risk Assessments, Gift Aid, Raffle and all other legal or statutory requirements:
• To control shop expenditure through effective cost control of weekly expenses.
• To ensure minimum losses of both stock and cash by following bank and till procedures, and safeguarding the property of The Children’s Trust at all times.
• To adhere to all Policies and Procedures including those relating to the compliance with Health and Safety responsibilities, Gift Aid and Raffle.
• To be responsible for the daily management of Health and safety within the shops, completing daily checks and contributing to Risk Assessments.
• To complete all administration to meet the requirements, standard and deadlines for whom this work is produced.
• Embracing the change and development of new technology in the shop, for example The Loop (internal intranet) and Chariot (EPOS till system).
• Timely efficient responses to requests for information including voice and email messages.
• To fulfil any other agreed duties that may at times be reasonably required.
Personnel and Training
To ensure the Shops team are: recruited, retained and developed:
• Provides positive, visible and proactive leadership to the Assistant Manager and Shops Volunteer team.
• To manage all employees and volunteers within the Shop in accordance with the aims and values of The Children’s Trust.
• To be responsible for the daily management of the shop team, including contribution to performance reviews for any Assistant Shop Managers.
• To recruit, support and retain team of shop volunteers.
• Provide induction and training for both Assistant Shop Manager and volunteer team as and when necessary.
• Attend where appropriate, training courses relevant to the development of the role
• Promote awareness of relevant training courses and development opportunities to others within the team.
• Attendance at Retail Sales Meetings and responsible for cascading information to Shops team as appropriate.
• To assist the Retail Sales Manager in shop openings and closures.
• Undertake relief cover within The Trust’s shops as and when required.
• Carries out duties in accordance with Trust values.
Customer Service
To ensure customer care and quality of service:
• To provide excellent customer care through quality of service, dealing with complaints both efficiently and effectively, and having a good understanding of what The Children’s Trust does.
• Support other shops and fundraising colleagues as and when necessary.
• Adheres to all health and safety guidelines, including infection prevention and control.
• Provide evidence of a valid NHS Covid Pass or acceptable proof of Covid vaccination or medical exemption and all vaccinations (or medical exemption) required for the post.
• Adhere to manual handling procedures and complete mandatory manual handling training.

THE ROLE
The Fundraising Officer/s will be responsible for planning, co-ordinating, and executing all fundraising activities and initiatives. About the role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Grants Officer to join our dynamic organisation. During this maternity cover, Grants Officer will report directly to the Director of Grants, Contracts and Compliance. They will work across all of Internews’ geographies to provide the highest standard of grant management support to partners receiving higher value grants from us. The incumbent will have a unique opportunity to learn about Internews’ work and to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of our missions across the World.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Grant Management and Compliance
· Provide grant management support to Programme Management Units, country offices and partners. Participate in regional portfolio reviews.
· Support start‐ups of partner projects by coordinating project stakeholders and ensuring that all relevant processes and procedures are in place.
· Develop guidance documents and procedures to enable effective and compliant operation of partner projects. Supports project teams in adapting Internews’ standard sub-granting policies, procedures and toolkits to country contexts.
· Review and sign off on alldue‐diligence assessments in preparation for sub‐granting to partners.
· When requested, support project teams and the Business Officers, in monthly spend and burn rate reviews and donor report submissions
· Monitor the compliance from HQ to satisfy organisational and donorrequirements.
· Monitor the implementation of partner projects to ensure the implementation process is in line with grant agreements; and proposes solutions to implementation issues. Quality‐assure partner reporting, and track co-financing liabilities.
· Provide end-to-end management of partnership agreements, including drafting.
· Participate in project close-outs. Contribute to audit; support the audit manager on queries about sub-grants.
· Maintain records on the organisational grant management system.
Partnerships and Development
· Design and implement grant management and compliance trainings for partners and Internews staff.
· Identify and document best grant management practices from individual grants, works with M&E colleagues to coordinate debriefings with stakeholders.
· Advise development colleagues on key considerations relating to donor and statutory compliance requirements as related to sub-grants.
· Contribute to the development of partner budget proposals to ensure their appropriateness and compliance.
· Transfer grant-management expertise to country offices
· Support country office leadership teams to identify requirements and recruit grant management staff;
· Deliver trainings for key grant management staff in country offices and PMUs.
Expert advice
· Manage and develop the grants expertise at GC&C team ensuring the highest standards of grant management support to PMUs, country offices and regional and multi-country portfolios as required.
· Provide ongoing feedback to the Director of GC&C on required improvement and updates on donor regulations and contractual obligations to ensure organisational knowledge is built and improved continuously, with particular focus on the consistence and continuous improvement of sub-granting processes.
· Ensure good knowledge management across grants, including key project documentation, to enable all teams supporting the grant to access information and provide a fully auditable trail.
· Contribute to annual work planning and budgeting process.
Essential Skills and experience:
· Demonstrated experience in the context of international non-for-profit.
· Strong experience in the development and implementation of grant management processes and procedures.
· Deep understanding of rules of major European donors, including the European Commission, SIDA, and FCDO.
· Proven track record in conducting due diligence on organisations and their policies, ensuring compliance and alignment with standards.
· Proven track record in grant management training and mentorship for grantees.
· Comprehensive understanding of the setup, governance, and business models of non-for-profit organisations and media
· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English, enabling clear and effective interaction with stakeholders.
· Proficiency in interpreting budgets and accounts, facilitating informed decision-making.
· High IT literacy, including proficiency in grant management systems (preferably U4B), Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
· Demonstrated self-motivation and initiative, with the ability to work autonomously.
· Effective organisational skills, including prioritisation, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of tasks and adherence to deadlines.

Oxfam is looking for a Welsh speaking Media and Communications Adviser to create and deliver proactive and reactive media output in Wales. The postholder will primarily generate proactive and reactive coverage in support of Oxfam’s twin Global Challenges, climate justice and action to better value and reward roles disproportionately undertaken by women, as well as Oxfam’s work in fragile and humanitarian contexts.
The postholder will also deliver media work in support of Oxfam’s brand and fundraising objectives. About the role
We are seeking an IT Tech Support Team Lead to support ARTICLE 19 during its migration to the MS365 platform and applications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing A19’s technical support operations, including deploying, optimising and supporting applications and users across the organisation. We are seeking to recruit a Fundraising Executive with a focus on Challenges and Event recruitment to sit within our Public Fundraising Team. Staff are expected to come into their base office once per week or the monthly equivalent i.e. 4 times per month. Staff are also able to flex their start and finish times between the hours of 7am to 7pm daily.

ENS is seeking a Communications Coordinator to play a key role in enabling ENS to fulfil its mission to break the cycle of statelessness in Europe and realise everyone’s right to a nationality.
This is a great opportunity to help us deliver our new Strategic Plan working at the forefront of one of the most pressing human rights issues. The successful candidate will coordinate ENS’s communications work and help raise awareness and galvanise our membership to end statelessness.
The European Network on Statelessness (ENS) is a civil society alliance of over 180 members in 40 countries, committed to breaking the cycle of statelessness in Europe and realising everyone’s right to a nationality. We are dedicated to raising awareness about statelessness, supporting legal and policy development, and building civil society’s capacity to act. At the heart of our work lies the understanding that stateless people and their communities should be leaders of change.
We are looking for someone with a solid track record in developing and promoting engaging content to affect change on hard-to-win issues. The candidate should also have practical knowledge of online communications tools - including Mailchimp or similar email platforms, website Content Management Systems, CRM, and social media management platforms.
Working under the supervision of the Head of Communications, Operations & Development, the postholder will work closely with key partners, members, and other ENS staff to increase the impact of our advocacy work by developing engaging content. They will also support our efforts to put people and communities affected by statelessness at the centre of our communications work.
The post’s day-to-day responsibilities will among other things involve coordinating a busy online website and email publishing schedule, managing social media, and publication design and publishing.
The successful candidate will have experience working in a busy communications environment. The candidate will be highly articulate in English (other languages are an asset) with experience of working with diverse communities and stakeholders.

They will be able to fit well into a fast-paced environment with an international focus.
