This role

Justice and Care is at an exciting moment with the imminent launch of a new ten-year strategy and we are looking to build a finance function to support this growth.

We are recruiting for an experienced Programme Finance Manager to manage and oversee the outworking of key financial processes at Justice & Care.  With a particular focus on support for our international projects funded by the US State Department and UK Government but with responsibilities also for our UK audit process and income/expenditure forecasting, this is a broad and varied role. 

This is a new role and will be line managed by the Finance Director but will work closely with in-country finance leads, programme teams, the Development team and wider global teams

Your main responsibilities will include;

• Collaborate with country finance leads and the programmes teams to develop detailed and well planned budgets for funding proposals including full cost recovery

• Monitor programme spend against budget, advising programme leads on financial and compliance decisions and producing numeric and narrative financial reporting in various formats, predominantly institutional donors such as the US State Department

• Project manage, forecast and monitor expenditure for UK programmes.

• Liaise with grants managers and project leads to ensure compliance on restricted grants.

• Lead on project management of the UK audit process.

• Delivering regular funder income and expenditure forecasting.

• Regular financial analysis as required to support strategic decision making.

• Manage and respond to finance related queries, becoming the finance point of contact for the UK team.

Role summary

You’ll be raising funds primarily for School Plates, the flagship UK programme, to help school menus to become healthier and more planet-friendly by increasing the quality, quantity, and uptake of plant-based food. 

The programme is growing rapidly. Now working with 70 major school caterers feeding over 1 million children daily, we’ve roughly doubled our reach in each of the last two years. With a new educational programme to teach children about their food choices launching this year, and our School Plates Awards and Global Plant-based School Food Network both expanding considerably, there is a need to significantly grow our income.

The role is primarily a combination of major donor and corporate fundraising to complement our existing trusts and foundations fundraising. You’ll be an experienced relationship builder, a driven and enthusiastic self-starter, and an excellent project manager. Responsibilities

• Lead on UK fundraising, focusing on major donors and corporates.

• Develop a creative 3-year fundraising strategy, and draft annual and quarterly objectives.

• Research, identify, and secure new major donors, and develop individual cultivation strategies for prospective donors, moving them along a prospect pipeline.

• Support the stewardship of existing major donor relationships, keeping them informed and involved in our work to secure their continued support. 

• Draft theories of change, cases for support, and other relevant written materials.

Person Specification

• 5+ years of experience of fundraising at an NGO.

Your effective communication abilities, both verbal and written, will play a critical role in handling correspondence, managing expenses, and preparing comprehensive notes and project support. Global Human Relations Specialist 

Responsibilities

— The responsibilities of Global Human Relations Specialist will include, but are not limited to:

• Determine and facilitate optimal hiring status for new and continuing staff (direct employment, EoR employment, independent consulting) and initiate and manage contracts as appropriate.

Qualifications

— The successful Global Human Relations Specialist candidate will likely reflect much of the following profile:

• A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or a field related to the work.
• Five years’ progressively responsible HR experience.
• International HR experience. GPHR or PHRi or equivalent, a plus.
• Practical understanding of global employment law and issues.
• Strong understanding of accounting as it relates to staffing.

 Join The Society as a Communities and Content Officer to support the engagement of physiological communities, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. You will support the development of resources for our Training Hub, supporting physiologists in establishing their careers, and building a larger, more engaged, and diverse community of members.

The Physiological Society 

The Physiological Society has made significant contributions to our knowledge of biological systems and the treatment of disease. The Society promotes physiology and supports those working in the field by organising world-class scientific meetings, offering grants for research, collaboration and international travel, and by publishing the latest developments in its leading scientific journals.

The position 

In this role, you will develop and deliver resources for the Training Hub, manage the Training Hub portal, and administer EDI-aligned grant schemes, monitoring and evaluating their impact. You will also provide secretariat support to the EDI committee, collect relevant metrics to monitor EDI progress, and recognize sector good practices for EDI. Collaborating with the Communications and Membership Manager, you will drive campaigns to support member recruitment and retention, particularly in growing and emerging communities. Additionally, you will manage the Society’s network of reps, deliver the Rob Clarke award, and support the Governance and Risk Manager for the 150th Anniversary celebrations.

Who are we looking for? 

We are looking for a candidate with experience in developing and curating content for relevant audiences, ideally within a membership organisation or the STEM sector. Experience managing an online member platform for training resources, excellent organisational abilities, and a proactive problem-solving approach are essential. The candidate should also have experience maintaining professional relationships, working both independently and collaboratively, and a clear commitment to advancing EDI goals.

Overview

Energise Africa is at an exciting and pivotal time in its development. We are currently recruiting a Commercial Director to drive the business as it looks to scale. Energise Africa has been founded and incubated by two of the leading direct impact investing platforms in Europe, Ethex in the UK and Lendahand in the Netherlands and backed by incredible supporters such as UKAid and P4G. Since 2017, during this seed stage, Energise Africa has raised over £35m from UK retail investors to accelerate energy access in Sub–Saharan Africa and has won numerous awards including the UN Climate Action award for climate friendly investments.

As we get ready to take on new investment, and expand into new geographies and sectors, it is time for the organisation to build a new dedicated team.

Commercial Director

To take our business to the next level we need a dedicated Commercial Director to help accelerate our growth.

There are four key strands to the role:

Strategy and New Business

· Work alongside the CEO to develop the growth strategy for Energise Africa

· Managing existing and develop new origination partnerships to bring new issuers to the platform

· Lead the EA origination efforts and structure proposed transactions

· Work alongside our operations team to ensure efficient processes are developed and implemented to ensure smooth onboarding of new investees

· Work alongside our marketing team to ensure that origination partners and investees give us the information that they need to effectively promote investment opportunities

· Drafting and negotiation of agreements with origination partners and prospective investees

· Lead the due diligence process, present cases to the Investment Committee and onboard new investees

· Manage existing and explore new co-financing partnerships

Investee Management

· Demonstrate excellent relationship management with our origination partners and investees.

· Monitor and manage the investment portfolio along with our origination partners.

· Manage workout situations and restructuring of clients in arrears with support from the legal team and origination partners.

Leadership

· As a key member of the Energise Africa Senior Management Team, help to build the investment strategy for Energise Africa and to deliver against agreed objectives.

Product Development

· Cooperate in product development which may involve different currency solutions, guarantees and de-risking projects as well as looking at innovative financing structures.

· Support the development of new tools and technology to make the investment process more efficient.

Reports to: CEO Energise Africa

Key skills and experience:

· A passion for sustainable development/impact investing or similar.

· 5 years of experience in impact investing (debt or equity) or corporate lending in emerging markets and/or in renewable energy or climate finance sectors.

· Experience of helping to scale a start-up and/or entrepreneurship within a company.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Great negotiation skills - cooperative, empathetic and get the deals closed.

· Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent EA at the highest levels.

· Fluent in English and ideally French or Spanish, both written and spoken.

· Willing to  travel internationally (global emerging/frontier markets and European countries).

· Tech-savvy and proven experience with data-driven investment decisions.

· Bachelors or Masters degree.

Senior Fundraiser

Friends of Ibba Girls School, South Sudan (UK charity number 1146220)

Friends of Ibba Girls School, South Sudan (FIGS), was established in 2011 in response to a specific request from local community leaders to help them build and develop a girls’ residential school in South Sudan.  Ibba Girls Boarding School (IGBS) now educates 360 primary and secondary school girls from across the whole of Western Equatoria State and employs 40 staff (teachers, matrons, cooks and other support staff). The school is on a large, green campus and provides not only high-quality teaching but a visible demonstration of the benefits of school education in South Sudan, where most girls leave school before the end of primary and very few achieve secondary qualifications.  FIGS is a relatively small organization but it is making a substantial impact by providing a model of good quality girls’ schooling across South Sudan.

FIGS has achieved notable successes – the school which opened in 2014, initially with 40 girls, has now reached its full size of 360 girls, with excellent exam results and has reduced dropout from school. It is nurturing empowered women who can exercise leadership locally and nationally for this newly independent nation. FIGS works closely with the experienced and widely-acclaimed Windle Trust International, who provide technical financial and organizational support to the school in South Sudan. 

FIGS has raised about £4 million over the last 10 years, particularly through relational fundraising.  Running costs for a boarding school in South Sudan are around £ 1/3 million each year, so fundraising is a key task for FIGS.

This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced fundraiser with a strong and demonstrable track record to play a crucial role in expanding the donor base of FIGS, while sustaining and engaging the large network of existing supporters and donors.  You will lead the fundraising work and will use your skills across a wide range of fundraising functions, including expanding the number and range of individuals, corporates, philanthropists, schools, churches, legacies and trusts. 

We need the help of a talented individual to implement FIGS’ fundraising strategy and action plan, working with those Trustees who are able to give some time to fundraising and with solid help from a part-time fundraising consultant.  There is plenty to enjoy in the varied work, where one can see visible results in the impact it has on the school, its students and staff, parents and communities across Western Equatoria State and across the nation of South Sudan.

The post can be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis (where part-time is at least 3 days a week).  It will be on a self-employed consultancy basis.  Hours can be flexible by arrangement. The person will work mainly from home, liaising online with Trustees and others, but some travel to events in London and elsewhere will be needed on an occasional basis. We are looking for someone to start as soon as mutually convenient. A contract will be one year in the first instance, and can be renewed subject to satisfactory performance.  The remuneration as a self-employed person is in the range of £35-42K dependent on track record and experience (or pro rata). 

Key responsibilities

· To support the delivery of the fundraising plan, achieving or exceeding targets and KPIs, both financial and non-financial as agreed with the Chair of FIGS Trustees and Chair of its fundraising group.

· To identify and generate new fundraising opportunities, from the corporate and philanthropic sectors, as well as from organizations, groups and individuals

· To widen the existing network of donors, based on relationship development and management and engagement with existing supporters and donors, and creating new opportunities

· To generate a pipeline of activities across a range of fund-raising streams

· Develop strong relationships with all external stakeholders. 

· Produce progress reports for FIGS Trustees about fundraising in relation to targets and budget and make recommendations for future streams of work.

· Attend key fundraising and supporter events to generate significant income, support and profile.

· Be an ambassador for FIGS.

· Ensure fundraising activities are in line with FIGS’ values and policies, relevant legislation and the Fundraising Regulator Code of Practice.

Working directly into the Director of Corporate Partnerships & Fundraising the position will play a pivotal role in leading the strategic partnership delivery and fundraising events function for the Street Child/Liberty Global partnership, for which Liberty Global won 'Business of the Year' in the 2021 Third Sector Business Charity Awards.
