About us

Who we are

Introduction to the Ashinaga Global Movement

The Ashinaga movement was founded in Japan in the 1960s and has since expanded across the globe, empowering over 110,000 orphaned youth with access to education and support to achieve their full potential. From 2002, we expanded our activities internationally, with our first office abroad in Uganda. Since then, we have established new offices in Senegal, the US, Brazil, the UK, and France to support the Ashinaga Africa Initiative.

The Ashinaga Africa Initiative was launched 10 years ago with the aim of equipping future leaders for Africa through undergraduate scholarships and leadership development opportunities. Ashinaga UK is proud to be part of this global movement, contributing to the mission of transforming lives and communities through education. Our work is primarily in the UK through collaboration with key university partners and donors.

Our Vision

Ashinaga provides education and support for orphaned students worldwide. This support enables Scholars to overcome the obstacles faced in their lives, to advance in their education, and to become agents of social change.

Ashinaga Africa Initiative

The Ashinaga Africa Initiative's vision is a more developed African continent, with all its countries out of poverty and communities benefiting from innovation and compassionate leadership. Our mission is to empower high achieving, orphaned students from low-income backgrounds with the education, skills, connections, and experience they need to tackle problems they see across the continent.

The Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) is an international leadership programme that cultivates the next generation of leaders to contribute to the development of sub-Saharan Africa. AAI Scholars have lost one or both parents and are committed to returning to sub-Saharan Africa to initiate change, innovation, and development. The AAI provides financial support for international university degrees, along with leadership training and support to support Scholars in their development as compassionate change-makers.
