We are recruiting a Policy Officer to undertake an exciting new role within the Advocacy and Communications Team. You will report to the Director of Advocacy and Communications and work closely with all others in the team.
The purpose of this role is to strengthen LFF’s policy and advocacy efforts. You will be crucial in helping to develop strategic engagement, influence change and strengthen LFF’s impact on public policy, and in doing so, make a significant contribution to the prevention of child sexual abuse.
Bringing together your knowledge and experience engaging with various stakeholders, you will effect change by identifying opportunities to influence decision-making, analyse data to develop policy positions for the organisation, contribute to consultation submissions and provide advice on various policy matters.
Advocacy is one of our three strategic pillars within our current organisational strategy, together with reach and research. It sits within the wider Advocacy and Communications Team which supports the promotion of all areas of our work across various channels: websites, social media, press and PR, marketing and digital advertising. As we look forward to a new organisational strategy in 2025, we will be embedding advocacy across the organisation and will be striving to better showcase our advocacy work both internally and externally.

We are recruiting self-employed advocates to provide independent and confidential advocacy on behalf of NYAS to children, young people and adults in a variety of settings such as children’s homes, schools, secure units etc. We are looking for people to service areas in West Berkshire, Wokingham or Slough.
Your role will enable them to ensure their voices are heard within decision-making processes that effect their lives. You will do this by listening to what they want and by informing them of their rights to get their wishes and feeling heard.
To be considered you must have significant experience of direct work with children, young people or adults in a related setting.

NB: As part of the recruitment process to become a Self-Employed Advocate with NYAS, all candidates who have been successfully interviewed and completed our safer recruitment process will be required to attend and complete accredited Advocacy training. This is a recognised qualification across this sector.
NYAS provides this training at a significantly reduced rate for self-employed advocates. Further details are discussed at interview.
You will also be required to complete annual safeguarding and compliance including, Personal Safety, Data Protection, Information Security, Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity. You will be able to subscribe to an e-learning platform provided by NYAS. The platform will provide you with the opportunity to undertake a number of other professional courses that you can complete in your own time to maintain your own CPD. You can do this on the e-learning platform at a significantly reduced cost compared to undertaking each course individually with different providers.
NYAS operates robust safe procedures to ensure the protection of the children, young people and adults at risk we work with. To comply with NYAS’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check, references and a Digital Risk Assessment.

The Race Equality Foundation and City, St George’s University of London are looking to better understand the experiences of racism and discrimination among young people from Black, Asian, and minoritised ethnic backgrounds (aged 16-25).
We want to work collaboratively with young people themselves by supporting them to be researchers and using photography and running workshops to explore important issues. At the end of the project, we’ll share our findings and explore the next steps for further research to put ideas into action.
We’re looking for two Peer Researchers to join the study. A Peer Researcher is someone who has personal experience and knowledge about the topic and helps shape the research.
Peer Researchers will work closely with the team, lead various parts of the project, engage with young people, run workshops, and help develop the project’s findings.

The University of Essex is excited to have formed a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with the Minstead Trust. The Minstead Trust is a charity based in Hampshire, which works in collaboration with people with learning disabilities and their family carers, to enable them to achieve greater independence and live happier and healthier lives. One of their main areas of work is accommodation support. As they transition into adult accommodation support services, adults with a learning disability, their family carers, and Minstead Trust accommodation support staff form a tripartite relationship through which support is planned and delivered within the Minstead Trust. However, to date practices in support provision have differed, leading to miscommunications, relationship difficulties, and some areas of inconsistency and discontinuity in provided support and living circumstances. There are also often difficulties experienced during the transition from child to adult learning disability services. These are sector wide issues, which ultimately impact service users’ participation in the various activities and occupations that provide meaning, purpose, and routine within their everyday lives.
The KTP will last for 24 months and utilise a participatory action research (PAR) approach to engage relevant stakeholders who comprise and surround the tripartite relationship described above. Together they will co-produce, implement, and evaluate distinct new ways of working. These new ways of working will revolutionise engagement between adults with learning disabilities, their family carers, and Minstead Trust staff, and lead to improved experiences for all stakeholders.
As a KTP, the KTP Associate role constitutes more than just the completion of a research project, as the focus of the role is to facilitate knowledge transfer between the University and the Minstead Trust. A key objective is that the KTP also embeds the capability of co-production within the Minstead Trust through staff engagement and support. Co-production involves partnership working towards a mutually defined aim, where everyone connected with an issue plays an active part, and existing skills, experience and knowledge are valued and utilised (Pettican et al, 2022).
