We support refugees and people seeking asylum, many of whom are torture survivors, through an integrated programme of therapeutic and casework assistance, in the context of a community of survivors. Our approach recognises the political context of our community members’ multiple and ongoing experiences of trauma and marginalisation including in their home country, on their journey to, and within, the UK. We offer long term and holistic support.
We are looking for a Co-Director who:
- Will ensure the overall financial sustainability of the charity through development of the fundraising strategy and oversight of its implementation
- Understands the experiences of our members in order to sustain Room to Heal’s therapeutic community and ensure the safety and appropriateness of all of our services
- Has awareness and interest in psychotherapy and group work
- Makes strategic decisions that centre the experience of refugees and people seeking asylum alongside maintaining the sustainability of the organisation
- Has the drive, care and vision to create new opportunities to support refugees and people seeking asylum and to learn and share experiences through external networks and partnerships in the UK and internationally
- Is able to speak with authenticity and challenge injustices knowing directly what the impact is due to own lived experience
- Can lead by consensus and collaboration and has a strong belief in the therapeutic benefits of community.

We have a strong track record. We’ve launched landmark cases seeking structural changes to big tech’s harmful business models, supported 180+ Facebook content moderators fired for trying to form a union to sue Facebook and their outsourcing company, Sama – winning world-first judgements. We helped launch Africa’s first content moderators' union and are urging UK and EU regulators to halt Big Tech’s maneuvers to hoover up generative AI as it has the rest of our online world. We have forced disclosure of secret contracts between tech giants and the NHS, stopped a racist Home Office visa streaming algorithm, helped make grading fair for UK A level students, forced the government to pause the NHS Data Grab and challenged the Department of Work and Pension’s use of an algorithm unfairly flagging disabled people for benefit fraud investigations.
We are a small but growing team of lawyers, communications experts, and campaigners. Our work is global, and we work in partnership with lawyers, civil society, unions, and impacted people.
About you
You are an experienced lawyer with a strong interest in using the law to hold governments and companies to account. You understand change doesn’t only take place within the walls of the court and that movements only succeed when they’re inclusive, making as many people as possible see they have a stake in these issues. You are a self-starter with the initiative to find opportunities, but the team-spiritedness to contribute to a shared goal and celebrate others’ work. The role
The post holder will be responsible for managing Foxglove’s legal team and legal work. You will drive forward a range of cases, including the development of case theories, investigating and collecting evidence, drafting correspondence, evidence and submissions. You will also be responsible for coordinating and managing external legal teams. UK and international travel is required.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Case Development and Management
- Listen to affected communities, unearth issues caused by tech injustice, and come up with innovative legal solutions.
- Build and maintain relationships with impacted community members, unions, other lawyers, experts, co-counsel, intervenors, civil society organisations and the public.
- Draft and comment on technical and legal documents and correspondence.
- Effectively work with the co-Executive Director to implement Foxglove’s legal strategy
- Manage and supervise the legal team.
- Lead evidence gathering.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Manage court deadlines and time limits where applicable.
- Ensure regulatory compliance in all aspects of your work and our cases.
- Always maintain the strictest standards of client confidentiality.
- Always maintain the strictest concern for and awareness of data protection and Foxglove policies.
- Keep up to date with the global litigation landscape concerning tech justice.
Other
- Help ensure communities’, workers’ and affected individual’s voices are heard in our campaigns, communications and advocacy work.

- Speak to the press about Foxglove’s cases as required.

Person Specification
Essential
- A strong interest in using the law to hold government and companies to account.
- Qualified lawyer in any jurisdiction with at least senior legal experience.
- Ability to learn new areas of law quickly and develop new areas of work.
- Demonstrable knowledge in conduct of cases from initial advice through to trial.
- Relevant experience in analysing complex factual and legal situations and helping to advise clients in accordance with their aims.
- Experience in dealing sensitively with clients and experts.
- Experience in working on complex matters, which require analysis of large amounts of documents and data.
- Excellent communication skills, demonstrated by ability to communicate accurately, clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

Length and Salary
The role is permanent. The annual salary is £70,075 per annum less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance.
Our team works remotely, and this role can be based anywhere. We would prefer you to work within or close to UK office hours, but this is flexible. Our team travels every two months for team days and twice a year for team retreats. How are staff supported to work remotely?
VoiceAbility has a small number of offices. Employees including Team Leaders are homebased for Administration and meetings will be held online as well as in person in the relevant community.

What you will be doing
The Director of Fundraising will be a key member of our executive team reporting directly to the Secretary General. As our first Director of Fundraising, you will have the opportunity to build and develop your own team to help you deliver the fundraising strategy.
In taking forward the strategy, you will identify and articulate areas for support, research relevant funding potential and secure income through the development and execution of both the short and long-term fundraising strategy across the funding spectrum. 1. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE JOB
The Director of Fundraising will lead the continued development, co-ordination and delivery of our new fundraising strategy, to build and maintain philanthropic income.
The post holder will work under the direction of the Secretary General and Trustees to:

2. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

b) Create and manage fundraising: major donors, trusts and foundations, corporates, and legacies across the organisation.
c) Monitor, collect and manage information on relevant sources of funding, including public and charitable funds, commissioning and procurement, and emerging opportunities for income generation.
d) Develop, implement and oversee quality control, evaluation and reporting procedures to ensure a high standard of bid submission, monitoring and reporting at all times.
e) Build relationships with major donors and maintain good stewardship of donors and funders. We expect our contributor base to include international donors, and not just those who may be UK-based.
f) Research and write high quality grant applications and proposals for support.
g) Develop, pitch and manage sponsorship proposals and presentations.
h) Work with colleagues to embed opportunities for fundraising and fundraising events through other areas of the charity’s work.

About the Role
The Street Engagement Team is a multi-disciplinary team that provides person-led support to people experiencing street homelessness and interconnecting needs.
A day in this role is never the same – part of it will be spent on the street, offering support to people experiencing homelessness. You might be out with another member of the team, or with one of our specialist health partners like a homeless health nurse, or substance use worker. Alongside this element of the role, the rest of your day will be spent intensively supporting a small caseload of people who are isolated from services.
You will have substantial experience in delivering a person-led, psychologically, gender and culturally informed service to people who are street homeless. You will be excellent at building and strengthening trust in relationships. You will be a problem solver, with a positive attitude towards change and service development.

How are staff supported to work remotely?
