We are seeking a Head of Communications and Marketing to lead on the charity's communications strategy.

The Head of Communications and Marketing is a strategically important post in the organisation with lead responsibility for overseeing communications, marketing and PR for the UK’s only national cleft lip and palate support charity. The role involves managing all aspects of internal and external communications including media relations, digital content and brand strategy. 

The role reports directly to the Chief Executive, is a member of the Senior Management Team and works closely with the CLAPA Board of Trustees to ensure that we maximise all opportunities to promote the work of the charity.  The post holder also has responsibility for the direct line management of the Communications and Marketing team.

The award-winning ISM is the dynamic, change making professional body representing musicians. With a current membership of over 11,000, the ISM is known for its legal support to its members covering a range of issues from intellectual property and employment disputes to contracts. The ISM is now looking for a Head of Legal Services to manage a critical part of how we support our members: namely our legal services. You will be managing our brilliant in-house team of lawyers as well as our external associated suppliers. We do not handle litigation as any disputes which proceed to this stage are handled by our legal insurance providers. You will also advise the ISM on business-related legal issues, ensure policies and procedures are kept up to date and work closely with the External Affairs team particularly on areas which have a legal element such as AI.

The provision of legal advice to our members is a core part of what the ISM offers and it is vital that we deliver gold standard legal services, responding to the needs of our professional musician membership. You will be an excellent but practical lawyer able to manage a great team as well as suppliers and contractors. You will be proactive with strong problem-solving skills, great drafting and oral skills, keen attention to detail and good emotional intelligence.

You will be joining a professional staff team who are based in Bayswater, London. The role is four days per week of which at least two will be in the office.

The Role

About You

You will have had proven experience in a fundraising role as well as experience in managing a team. You will also have be able to demonstrate experience in communications and/or understand a wide range of communication techniques. You will also be experienced in implementing and devising a stratergy across multiple income streams.

This is a key role within the Operations Department reporting directly to the Operations Director, and working closely with Finance and Communications (our fundraising and marketing function). Supporter Care aims to deliver exceptional service to our supporters in terms of administering donations and postal logistics, and via our call-centre. Therefore, a key focus will be the leadership of the Administration and Telephone Support teams (both are within Supporter Care).  

A significant objective for this role is the implementation of a new CRM system which is part of UCB’s wider integrated data strategy. Working alongside IT, and Finance in particular, the Head of Supporter Care is responsible for the management of data in the new CRM system. Therefore, you will have knowledge and previous experience of working with CRM systems. Furthermore, you will be responsible for ensuring Supporter Care staff are trained, and associated ways of working are stream-lined.

We expect you to have leadership experience with strong business acumen and service development, educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent experience. As part of UCB’s leadership team you should welcome the challenge of prioritising a busy and diverse workload with the ability and flexibility required to meet tight deadlines and the initiative required to guide the Supporter Care staff through this transition period. You will be tasked with establishing strong relationships with government officials, Members of Parliament, and farming sector representatives. Collaborating closely with the Senior Leadership Team you will develop and deliver an external affairs strategy that supports the charity’s objectives to build farmers personal resilience and ensure farming people’s wellbeing is a fully embedded principle within key policy making decisions. 

What we are looking for

You will come with a proven track record in leading and implementing successful external affairs strategies that align with organisational goals. Significant experience in advising at senior levels and expertise in integrated external affairs, including drafting public affairs briefings and developing policy positions will be crucial. As well as an exceptional influencing and networking ability, alongside exemplary written and oral communication skills.

We need someone with experience managing teams through organisational changes and be open, confident, and collaborative in engaging with others. Importantly you will be adept at building relationships at the Ministerial level and fostering cross-party support for policies while integrating service user voices into strategies. Strong stakeholder engagement and planning skills are required to manage a diverse portfolio of projects. A commitment to the objectives of RABI, a full clean UK driving license, and readiness to travel and on occasion work unsociable hours are also necessary.

The Role

Working on a flexible hybrid basis, with occasional travel to the central Peterborough you’ll be the driving force behind the marketing strategy, generating buzz and raising awareness for incredible work. A big part of your role is leading, inspiring, and developing the team, which will require you to undertake rigorous monitoring and evaluation of activities to ensure they meet agreed KPIs, to prioritise resource and enable continuous improvement. On top of this you'll also advise on reputational risk and play a key role in crisis communications should the need arise.

We\'re looking for someone with a qualification in marketing and/or communications such as CIM/CIPR, significant marketing and communications experience in a senior capacity within the charity sector, and Ideally a proven ability in the development, implementation and evaluation of marketing and communication strategies.
