Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Retail Commercial Manager to oversee the sales and profit performance of a collection of retail shops. Role Responsibilities
Sales and Profit
• Support Shop Managers to maximise each shop’s sales and profit potential.
• Oversee the delivery of Gift Aid targets throughout the area, driving Gift Aid signups and conversion rates, and ensuring shops are actively promoting the scheme.
• Conduct data analysis to review the commercial layout of each shop including department and category mix.
• Understand and implement commercial actions to deliver against strategic KPIs.
• Responsible for ensuring that all merchandise is clearly priced and monitor pricing levels to achieve maximum sales in accordance with pricing policies.
• Ensure shops have a high standard of display, cleanliness and tidiness, and that they project a quality retail image.
• Assist Shop Managers to deliver commercially successful visual merchandising displays, in line with the visual merchandising manual.
• Ensure each shop correctly implements agreed seasonal promotions, and shop layouts to achieve maximum income.
• Ensures shop teams are aware, understand and engaged in the financial performance of their shops.
• All best practices outlined within the commercial manual are delivered.
Stock Management
• Ensure compliance with efficient and commercially successful stock processing systems (such as pricing, quality standards, consumer safety, stock density, sizing, and culling stock).
• Ensure that all legal and internal regulations regarding donated stock are adhered to.
• Collaborate with warehouse team to ensure effective stock movement.
• Work closely with the warehouse and stock partnerships teams to ensure sufficient levels of warehouse, rotation and corporate donated stock.
• Work closely with the ecommerce team to ensure key products generate maximum income via the best channel, delivering P&L sales targets.
• To monitor stock management and fast-tracking on to shop floor.
Customer Service
• Lead and inspire the team to place a positive customer experience at the heart of our approach to attract new and loyal supporters and repeat donors.
• Ensure all processes detailed within the customer experience manual are delivered.
• Ensure that feedback, including complaints are escalated to the Head of Retail Income, within the agreed timeframes.
• Be accountable for the integration of each shop into the local community in collaboration with the shop teams.
Team Management
• Ensure that shops have correct level of cover throughout the year, ensuring cover when and where necessary for annual leave, sickness or vacancies.
• Coordinate and facilitate meetings with shop managers for the purpose of training, communication and planning.
• Role model and promote effective team communication, celebrating success and sharing best practice.
• Foster a creative environment where team members seek to maximise income in new and innovative ways through multiple channels including their shops and community events.
• Provide line management, leadership, development opportunities and performance management to the Shop Management team.
• Support with the annual appraisal and probation processes for all reports.
• Play a key role in enabling shops to represent the charity and increase awareness of our mission within the community.
Volunteer Team
• Support the volunteer coordinator and shop management teams to recruit, induct and retain an inclusive and diverse volunteer team, in line with recruitment targets.
• Ensure volunteers adhere to Fight for Sight policies and procedures.
Operations
• Ensure shops are compliant against operational procedures and processes within the Operations manual, providing timely reports and identifying areas of non-compliance.
• Ensure shop maintenance and repairs are reported, and resolved in a timely manner, and aligned to budgets.
• Provide a safe and healthy working environment and ensure that all team members are aware of and operate within our health and safety policies and procedures.
• Ensure technology-related issues are raised and resolved promptly.
• Work within our policies and procedures when dealing with problems at work.

• Conduct regular reviews of shop financial processes to ensure adherence to procedures and minimise financial risks

• Ensure all retail income is raised lawfully, including data protection legislation, Charity Commission guidance and Fundraising Standards/ Charity Retail Association codes of practice.

Bowel Research UK is looking for an interim Research and Grants Manager to coordinate and evaluate the management of the charity’s research activities. This role covers all aspects of pre- and post-award research management, impact reporting, grant finance management and governance, co-ordination of the Charity’s scientific committees and shaping external scientific communications to supporters and other stakeholders. Our Governance Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating all governance work, providing support to the Board, CEO and Executive Team in all matters relating to governance and in particular for the Board and Committee meetings.
You’ll ensure that transactional activities are accurately completed within specified timeframes and co-ordinate all committees of the YHA Board and advise on and implement good governance practice.

What will you be doing?
- Lead and advising on all matters relating to governance including the constitution, memorandum and articles of association, standing orders and codes of conduct, including leading the implementation of any changes agreed by the Board.
- Provide best practice governance advice and support to the Chair, Board, CEO and Executive team, ensuring regulatory/codes of practice compliance, ongoing review of consultations on charity governance and promoting good governance in practice.
- Provide governance support to the Board, Audit and Risk Committee, Finance Committee, People, Remuneration, Impact and Engagement Committee, and the National Officers and Committee Chairs meeting and any other meetings linked to governance.
- Monitor changes in relevant governance legislation and the regulatory environment and take appropriate action.
- Project manage the organisation and delivery of the Annual General Meeting
- Plan and co-ordinate the annual Trustee induction programme.
- Responsible for the administration of the Company, for example: maintaining statutory company records and making the appropriate governance filings to Companies House and the Charity Commission.
- You’ll be the Company Secretary for YHA (England and Wales) and YHA Trading Limited.
- Assist the CEO and Executive with internal and external promotion, PR or other publications and events as required and particularly in relation to corporate governance and Board related issues.
- Develop relationships of trust and confidence, working pro-actively with the Chair, individual Board members, the CEO, Executive team, and external lawyers, where appropriate. You’ll be key in liaising between National Office teams and Board members.
What Skills and Experience do you need?
- Experience of providing governance support at Board level.
- Chartered Membership of the Chartered Governance Institute (or equivalent) or studying towards the qualification or suitable other experience. Experience of working independently, pro-actively and sensitively with senior stakeholders (Chair, CEO, Board members, Exec directors).
- Excellent project management skills and experience.
- Project team leadership skills and experience.
- Experience of budgetary control.
- Experience and in-depth knowledge of corporate and charity governance, including of company secretary functional requirements.
- Friendly, supportive, authoritative and approachable with the ability to adapt communication style to build positive relationships and provide proactive support for internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Able to take comprehensive and accurate minutes at speed.
- Able to adapt written communication style to deal with formal Board and governance communications, but equally at home with more informal communications when appropriate.
- Good level of IT skills particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint and a working knowledge of portals for distributing and viewing board and committee papers.
- Very well organised, self-motivated and able to demonstrate initiative, to deal authoritatively with providing best practice advice, peaks and troughs in workload, and conflicting priorities including between departments and individuals.
- Able and willing to flex hours worked in order to cover Board and AGM meeting at weekends and frequent evenings and occasional early mornings (for committee meetings and distribution of Board and Committee papers) and travel to hostels throughout the network to support Board and other meetings, for which Time Off in Lieu will be provided.
- Flexible and adaptable, and willing to support the Chair, Board, CEO, Executive Team, and External Affairs Team.
- A good understanding of charity governance, operational and departmental organisation and requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

The Retail Partnerships Lead role plays an important part in the success of Scope’s retail offering. What will you be doing?
- Leading the Challenging Lives programme strategy - Identifying and managing partnership opportunities to drive charitable impact and trading revenue as well as championing and broadening the impact of YHAs Breaks programme, and developing partnerships and programmes with synergistic organisation.

Reporting to the Head of Policy, Campaigns and Public Affairs, you will be responsible for shaping evidence-based policy positions, producing high-impact consultation responses, and identifying strategic opportunities to influence health and research policy. You will have some experience of working in either a busy press office, PR agency, or as a journalist, and have a good track record of producing and pitching stories to your editor or the press. As well as working closely with the media team, you will work in a truly integrated way with colleagues and teams across Shelter. As such, you will have a knack for building rapport with lots of different people. Your enthusiasm and collaborative approach to work will help you share your media expertise and work with colleagues to reach our shared goals.
Your writing skills will be second to none, as you digest complex content and quickly turn it into pithy soundbites and key messages for your target audience. And your creativity and drive will stand you in good stead as you come up with media tactics and ideas that encompass traditional print media, broadcast, digital, photography and video. You take the initiative with new ideas and are always on the lookout for ways to improve how we work.
You will be excellent at managing your own time and projects. And given the news agenda rarely waits for anyone, you will be used to thinking on your feet and working to tight deadlines.

About the team
The media team comprises of Head of Media, two Media Managers, three Senior Media Officers, two Media Officers, and an Assistant Media Officer.
This is a unique opportunity to join a fast paced and high performing team with a heritage of ground-breaking campaigns. The media team are a key part of the Communications, Policy and Campaigns division, but we serve the media needs of the whole organisation. Collaboration and relationship building skills are the name of the game, as we work closely with a broad range of internal stakeholders, as well as our external partners, to generate influential coverage across Shelter’s campaigns, fundraising, community and services outputs.
