The Directorate of Development & Alumni Relations is seeking a creative and motivational leader to nurture, challenge and inspire our growing development team to deliver a bold and innovative strategy to support our new and exciting university-wide fundraising campaign. This opportunity presents the potential to raise transformational gifts at the 6, 7 and 8 figure level from a portfolio of alumni, non-alumni, companies, trusts & foundations and institutional funders. The role reports into the Director of Advancement and will play a key part in shaping the future direction of our Aberdeen 2040 strategic vision.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record in raising major philanthropic gifts together with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to build relationships across a large and complex landscape and to inspire and motivate a growing team of people will be equally important. The role is offered with flexible and hybrid working options. A relocation would also be supported with a financial package.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 8, £58,596 - £65,814 per annum with placement according to qualifications and experience.

LOCATION

PACKAGE
Pay is dependent on location. The UK salary of £55,000 plus pension contribution will be converted using ICSC scales. All locations receive 28 days annual leave, counselling support and annual well-being days.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Head of Development will provide overall leadership for Videre’s fundraising activities. They will develop and implement the fundraising strategy, ensuring income goals are achieved in the short, medium and long-term through direct relationship building, input to programme design, concept note drafting and deployment of the CEO and Senior Directors. They will be part of the organisational Management Team, working closely with colleagues to deliver on the organisational strategy.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic planning and management
- Lead on the delivery of the 2025-2027 fundraising strategy, adjusting as required, ensuring that Videre has the resources to deliver on its mission and strategic goals.
- Lead on maintaining our backbone infrastructure of prospect research, concept note coordination and drafting and deployment of senior staff (including yourself) into the right spaces with the right messages and background information.
- Track progress against the fundraising strategy, with regular reporting to senior management and the Board of Trustees against strategic indicators and outcomes, and pro-actively address any potential shortfalls.
- Maintain detailed and accurate income projections and forecasts, liaising with the Head of Finance & Compliance to closely monitor organisational cash flow.
- Line manage the Trust & Foundation Officer (expected to hire in late 2025), providing close support on operational tasks, time management and prioritisation, and pro-actively supporting professional development.
- Monitor external donor trends and adapt plans accordingly to ensure Videre remains well placed to secure funding over the long-term.
- Contribute to long-term organisational planning and positioning, and proactively identify aligned funding environments and opportunities.
- Fully participate and contribute to the Management Team, raising fundraising matters where appropriate and helping ensure the organisation achieves its strategic mission.
- Manage the fundraising budget to ensure most effective use of resources.
Donor cultivation, approaches, and retention
- With the CEO, develop and maintain strong working relationships across Videre’s donor portfolio, ensuring timely and responsive communications with all existing and potential funders, including institutional donors, private foundations, trusts, individuals, and other partner organisations.
- Lead the development of cultivation strategies for existing and potential donors and manage their implementation.
- Develop materials, including proposals, grant applications, and supporting documentation tailored to the donor audience, ensuring accuracy, fit, and timely submission.
- Collaborate closely with Head of Finance & Compliance to prepare proposal and grant application budgets.
- Conduct prospect research and monitor new funding opportunities, analyse donor trends and maintain relevant knowledge on donor priorities, rules and requirements.
- Analyse the reasons for success or failure of funding proposals, extracting and applying learning to improve the success rate of future funding applications.
- Ensure adherence to Videre’s Ethical Funding Policy, carrying out due diligence on funding sources where appropriate
- Support regional staff with the development of strategic relationships with in-country donor offices and government embassies.
- Maintain comprehensive records of contacts, meetings and points of cultivation with all donors, and ensure proper follow up.
Grant management and reporting
- Lead on the preparation and submission of high-quality donor progress reports, coordinating teams as required for input.
- Ensure contract information is maintained and recorded accurately.
- Develop and maintain a tracking system to ensure timely submission of proposals, reports and acknowledgements.
- Liaise with the Head of Finance & Compliance to support organisational and donor audits.
Other
- Ensure Videre’s website and donor portal are regularly updated and effectively communicate the organisations values, mission and activities.
- Further organisational Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals by ensuring project teams are equal partners during the creation of funding strategy, proposal development, reporting, and the creation of key communications materials.

About the role:
We are for looking for a highly motivated and experienced finance professional to lead and develop the HQ Programme Finance team in the delivery of strong financial controls and frameworks. Working as one of four Heads of Finance, you will play a key role in contributing to MAG’s overall strategic direction and management, you will influence local, regional and global internal stakeholders to deliver strong financial control and resilience, and lead on the delivery of multi-country contracts, liaising with key donors and external partners. You will build and develop the Programme Finance team to ensure robust and effective, high quality financial business partnering. You will also work with the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis to provide insights into the monthly management accounts, including programme performance and risk narratives, and variance analysis.
About you:
We are looking for:
- CCAB or international equivalent professional accounting qualification
- Experience of financial management in a complex multi-site international organisation (featuring multi-currency and multi-contract project accounting)
- Experience of managing requirements of multiple grant/funding providers
- Experience of coordinating and preparing business planning for complex organisations
- Experience of fostering finance business partnering to international, multidisciplinary teams
- Experience of establishing and maintaining strong financial controls
- Experience of preparing and analysing management reporting for financial and non-financial users
You will need to demonstrate an ability to manage complex workloads and often competing deadlines, and establish and maintain strong financial controls which ensure we operate to the highest financial standards. You will also be able to influence diverse and disparate teams with competing priorities.

Our Philanthropy & Partnerships team, which solicits support from major donors, companies, trusts and foundations, is at the heart of the Stop MS Appeal. Our dedicated Prospect Research team is looking for an individual who wants to develop their skills and experience in a busy fundraising team, working on a variety of exciting fundraising projects; we’re looking for a good communicator and a team player.
Your core responsibilities will include: producing high quality prospect research, identifying new prospects for support and influence, and ensuring the database is effectively configured to meet the needs of the Philanthropy and Partnerships team. Ideally, you will have demonstrable experience of identifying and qualifying potential high value prospects and making recommendations on actions to take, along with a good working knowledge of supporter databases and prospect research tools and resources.

Beat is the UK’s eating disorder charity. Founded in 1989 as the Eating Disorders Association, Beat's mission is to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. Its national Helpline exists to encourage and empower people to seek help quickly, as early treatment greatly increases the chances of recovery. The Role
The Chief Executive Officer will line manage the executive team and any other relevant roles.
As the leader of the charity the Chief Executive Officer will interact with staff and volunteers across Beat setting a successful and positive culture to enable Beat to meet its objectives.
The Chief Executive Officer will build and manage relationships with numerous stakeholders including donors, politicians and experts in eating disorders.
Person Specification
- Evidence of leading the development and delivery of organisational strategy, key targets, service improvements and management of change within an organisation of similar size and complexity.
- Solid track record of effectively managing resources and budgets, with experience of delivering long term financial sustainability and stewardship of valuable resources.
- Ability to forge and nurture effective partnerships and collaborative relationships with a range of organisations both inside and outside the research, healthcare and/or charitable sectors.
- Demonstrable evidence of strategic development and leading and inspiring people /organisations and developing effective partnerships.
