Team: Trusts & Statutory
Salary: £28,337 - £31,485 (plus London Allowance of £3,366, or Home Working Allowance of £500)
Location: Remote or hybrid (with bases located across the UK)
Context and Background
The NSPCC is the UK’s leading children's charity. Everything we do protects children today and prevents abuse tomorrow, to transform society for every child. With over 100 years’ experience, our people and partners’ collective power is focused on ending child abuse.
Every child deserves to be loved, cared for, and protected. That’s why the NSPCC listens and responds to children’s evolving needs. Through investing in new services and solutions that combine practice, policy, lived experience and research, we create, deliver and share the most effective ways to protect children.
Our work includes the world-famous Childline service, and our policy, research and campaigning bring about the changes that children need. The NSPCC’s hubs are embedded in areas across the UK, with local teams empowering partners and communities to come together to prevent child abuse and neglect.
We are part of the way through our ten-year strategy focused on creating a safer society for all children, and its delivery will only be possible with our donors’ support. The Income Generation Directorate, which leads the NSPCC’s efforts to raise funds, has evolved into one of the most successful in the sector.
Following a review of the directorate’s income, statutory funding was identified as a significant growth area for the NSPCC, with a new team created in response. Over a four-year period, the Statutory Team has built its pipeline to now secure circa £5 million per annum. There is significant opportunity for further growth, with the team’s role expanding from working with statutory funders across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, to also working on research and tendering opportunities.
WHERE YOU WOULD FIT IN
We have an exciting opportunity for a fundraiser to become part of a successful and motivated team securing significant income from national, devolved and local government, research grant-makers and commercial tenders. These broad income streams are vital to ensuring the NSPCC can help millions of children each year.
The recruited fundraiser will work at both a national and local level to secure grants to help the Statutory Team achieve a new annual income target of circa £5 million. Working across the charity, they will build relationships with colleagues and senior stakeholders, and source and share information with funders through engaging written materials, phone conversations and face-to-face meetings. Alongside managing their own portfolio, they will support team members to maximise new statutory funding streams for the NSPCC.
Experience of developing high-value relationships and using influencing techniques to secure income is essential to this role, as are strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to develop new proposals. The post holder will also need to identify and pursue new opportunities, and be organised and flexible enough to respond to the evolving needs of our supporters.
The wider Trusts & Statutory Team has grown considerably in recent years to become one of the highest performing at the NSPCC– with a focus on pursuing the most transformative, highest-value opportunities.
The Major Giving Department is open and supportive with an active social life. With bespoke training opportunities, room for significant development and growth, and the support of colleagues and resource teams, the role will provide the opportunity to make a positive change for children and families across the UK.
We are open to applicants interested in working full-time at our head office based in Shoreditch, being entirely home-based or on a flexible basis at one of our many UK bases. We encourage applicants to apply from across the nations, who are prepared for semi-regular travel to London. Two of the five existing Statutory Team members are currently home-based. We also offer a variety of rewards and benefits including generous annual leave, employee benefits and assistance programme, pension and life assurance schemes.

Message from the Vicar…
For over 900 years Tewkesbury Abbey has been at the heart of the community - as a place of gathering, worship, celebration and remembrance. Down the centuries we have been a Benedictine Abbey, a parish church and a place of refuge in times of flood and war. Today the Abbey is a thriving parish church with hundreds coming here to worship each week, drawn by our commitment to daily prayer and our traditional choral worship. We are a ‘Major Church’ within the Church of England, and we are larger than fourteen of our country’s cathedrals. We are also a venue for concerts, large civic events, fairs and festivals working in partnership with colleagues throughout the region. In the past year we have also hosted a number of installations, exhibitions and events, a schools programme, concerts and talks in addition to our usual packed programme of worship and festive services.
Like many heritage assets within the UK, COVID and lockdown presented us with serious challenges to our financial sustainability. We are now responding to those challenges with ambitious plans to double our visitor income and numbers within five years. These plans have been agreed and funded by our Parochial Church Council and are being overseen by our trading arm Tewkesbury Abbey Limited.
We are delighted to have received a £250,000 development grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund towards our Tewkesbury Abbey Welcoming All project, a wide-ranging programme of works to increase our visitor engagement, including the appointment of new staff, surveys to scope future capital development plans, and testing new commercial activities including entry by donation. We hope that this will lead to one or more larger-scale capital bids which could result in a longer-term funding relationship to secure the Abbey as a thriving venue, unique heritage asset and national visitor destination.
As Project Manager for the Tewkesbury Abbey Welcoming All project, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating all the activities within it, shaping and delivering the future plans and development of the Abbey. You will ensure that timescales and budgets are kept to, that the Abbey’s committed team of staff, volunteers and clergy play their part in it, and oversee the recruitment and training of the new team members as we deliver the project. You will be the primary point of contact with the National Lottery Heritage Fund, ensuring that the Fund’s reporting and promotional requirements are fulfilled, and that accurate financial records are kept. The successful candidate will be an experienced project manager and a flexible team player who is looking for an exciting new challenge and the opportunity to shape the next chapter in the life of the Abbey.

Financial Support Line
This project is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. Please note that this post is only open to female applicants as being female is deemed to be a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
The Financial Support Line provides one-off support and guidance to victims of domestic and economic abuse who are struggling to manage their money. It provides a safe space for the victim-survivor to discuss their financial situation and allows them to prioritise issues and move forward with economic safety.
Economic abuse is a form of coercive and controlling behaviour. 95% of women who experience domestic abuse will experience economic abuse. It limits their choices and ability to access safety. This award-winning service is run by Money Advice Plus in partnership with Surviving Economic Abuse.
This is a rewarding role where you really can make a difference to women's lives. You will help shape the way we operate the Financial Support Line, lead the team delivering the service, and provide line management support and direction. You will also lead on training for our external stakeholders on use of the Economic Abuse Evidence Form and associated issues.
Alongside the Service Manager, and the Deputy Service Manager leading the Casework element of our work, you will play a key role in developing our services for this client group.
Please let us know how you meet the person specification. If you'd like to make you application in a different format, please contact us.
