Who we are

Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) is a small charity doing big things to support the people, landscape and wildlife of the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas.

Our inspirational projects cover areas as diverse as countryside apprenticeships, supporting local communities, education and outreach, restoring woodlands and wildlife habitats, and improving access and understanding of this special place.

Since 1996, we have supported the planting of 1.5 million trees, restored more than 740 hectares of wildflower rich meadows and conserved the unique heritage features that make the Yorkshire Dales landscape special – like rebuilding drystone walls, restoring village halls and milestones.

We have brought more than 14,000 adults and young people from disadvantaged urban backgrounds to the Yorkshire Dales, often for the first time, to enjoy all kinds of activities and adventures in the beautiful countryside.

We know how important being outside and in nature is for health and wellbeing.

We provide training opportunities and apprenticeships for young local people to learn countryside management skills with 85 per cent going on to further education or employment.

We also help our communities make a real difference on a local scale through a scheme of grants that are quickly assessed and delivered.

We know the people, landscape and wildlife of this area face many challenges - environmental, economic and social - and, as a result, we have a bold ambition to extend the reach and impact of our work.

We can only do this with the dedication of our staff and their ability to go above and beyond. We are dedicated in supporting them to meet these needs.

As a result, and to meet the changing needs of this special place, we will continue to become the best organisation we can be, with a focus on innovation and partnership working.
