Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Independent Domestic Violence Advisor to join the Medium Risk Domestic Abuse team based in Shoreham by Sea, Sussex. The role is offered as 37.5 hours a week with a working pattern of Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Hybrid working - 2 days at the office in Shoreham and 3 days working from home and or in the community.

About the role:

This hybrid role is based in Shoreham by Sea, which includes a combination of home and office-based working as well as regularly meeting with clients across Sussex at safe locations of their choosing and attending meetings as required.
As an IDVA you will:

  • Support the empowerment of survivors, assiting them to recognising the features & dynamics of domestic abuse
  • Hold a caseload of varying complexity, prioritising high risk cases & providing a pro-active, short to medium term crisis intervention service
  • Conduct comprehensive needs & risk assessments to provide individual support plans
  • Participate in the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC)
  • Use a person-centred, survivor-focused approach, being mindful of the effects of trauma and additional barriers to access that individuals may experience
  • Work in partnership with internal & external stekholders to ensure that needs are met effectively
  • Assist in delivering training, and provide consultancy and advice to other agencies as required

You will need:

  • an understanding of domestic abuse & it's effects
  • knowledge of risk assessment & safety planning
  • knowledge of safeguarding
  • previous experience of delivering services to vulnerable people
  • the ability to manage a complex caseload, able to prioritise effectively
  • knowledge of criminal and civil justice remedies
  • the ablity to self-reflect, identify own needs, and put in place effective self-care strategies
