Reporting directly to the Trustee Board, the Chief Officer will:
·Provide leadership, strategic and operational oversight of Rainbow Haven.
·(with the Trustee Board) Ensure the long-term financial sustainability of Rainbow Haven.

Summary of the role:
As the Philanthropy Manager, you will oversee the development of existing high-net-worth (HNW) donors and cultivate new high-net-worth prospects. Post summary
This is an exciting position for an exceptional person with fundraising, campaigning, policy, communications and management/leadership experience to temporarily direct one of the UK’s leading human rights NGOs. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to oversee high-impact civil liberties campaigns to achieve real change and manage a high-performing multi-disciplinary team to further privacy, free expression and data protection rights in the United Kingdom. Importantly, you’ll be an experienced fundraiser, responsible for leading our grants and major giving to maintain Big Brother Watch’s income growth, and have experience with financial reporting.

An ideal candidate will also be responsible for leading the development of policy positions on new and emerging issues alongside our talented team.
You may also share spokesperson responsibilities, taking up our role as a recognised voice on civil liberties matters in the national media, though this is not essential.

About you

The RSPB, Europe’s leading nature conservation NGO, is seeking a Director of Supporter Fundraising to lead the charity’s work in recruiting and stewarding the next generation of individual supporters to help address the nature and climate emergency.
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is a charity for the conservation of birds and nature, bringing people together who love birds and other wildlife, and who want to take action to restore the health and diversity of the natural world. The charity now manages and protects 160,000 hectares of land across the four countries of the UK.
Public support has been at the centre of RSPB’s work since its foundation as a campaigning organisation in 1889. With 1.1 million current members contributing over £95m to the charity’s cause in 2024, the RSPB has set itself a bold ambition to increase supporter numbers and net income from this core area.
Working closely with the Executive Director for Income and Conservation Investment and other senior stakeholders across RSPB, the Director of Supporter Fundraising will ensure that the organisation maintains and increases its income in membership, individual giving, legacies, in memoriam and community fundraising. The role will be responsible for a large team working to develop new strategies and to engage and grow a diverse supporter base, enabling the charity to inspire long-term support and active engagement with their work.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in growing a large and complex individual giving or subscription programme across multiple products and channels. Significant experience in individual supporter fundraising or consumer marketing through direct marketing techniques will be essential.

Fundraising compliance:

Save all profiles, donations, giving history, gift aid agreements, correspondence, and communications with supporters on CNK CRM database. Uphold GDPR and comply with fundraising best practice.
US Individual Giving Programme:

Contribute towards developing a new US individual giving portfolio through prospect research and crafting compelling fundraising asks.
Staff & Volunteer Management:

Create and manage a volunteer fundraising programme to grow individual giving through community events, social media and awareness raising.
The role has no direct line reports at present but there may be in future, budget permitting
Essential skills and experience:
You will have at least five, ideally eight, years experience of:

individual giving fundraising for a small charity, with a track record of developing and delivering successful individual giving campaigns that have generated 5 figure sums

building a supporter base - both amongst low value, but also mid level and major donors

gathering information, case studies, data and finances, distilling and crafting high quality, well articulated compelling funding asks

growing charity brand and positioning, thorough consistent approach, campaigns, asks,use of language and artwork

digital marketing including social media, email marketing, and website content management

designing tools, inputting data and keeping CRM software updated, using data analytics to report on donor journey and drive fundraising decisions

relevant fundraising regulations and best practices, including GDPR compliance.

The Finance Officer will be involved in all aspects of the charity’s financial operations, this is a very broad role. From handling small donations like a child’s pocket money right up to processing large grants. You will be the first point of call for financial queries and questions arising from our team. You will process purchase and sales invoices, volunteer, and staff expenses. You will support grant and other fundraising applications, process donations from a variety of different platforms, deal with gift aid and banking. Acorns helps children and families fill the time they have together with love, fun and laughter to create lasting memories.
Palliative care for children aged 0-18 is delivered at Acorns’ hospices in Birmingham, Worcester, and Walsall, as well as in family homes or elsewhere in the community. Their holistic, tailored approach meets each child’s clinical, emotional, cultural, religious, and spiritual needs. Over the past 18 months, Acorns’ leadership team has enhanced collaboration and innovation across the charity and focused on embedding an organisation-wide fundraising culture, deepening internal relationships, and harnessing data analysis to drive performance. With this strong foundation in place, they are seeking a Director of Income Generation to play a key role in shaping the organisation’s strategic direction while leading and integrating fundraising and retail operations.
About the role
As a key member of Acorns’ Executive Directorate, you will play a central role in shaping the organisation’s leadership and strategy. You’ll develop and implement innovative strategies to maximise fundraising income across individual giving, corporate partnerships, community fundraising, trusts, and legacies. In addition, you will oversee the performance and continued success of Acorns’ retail operation, strategically supporting the Retail Director in driving growth across a portfolio of c.50 shops.

As Director of Income Generation, you will:
- Join a high-functioning Executive Director team to effectively govern and lead the organisation’s strategic development
- Provide strategic direction, inspiration and leadership to the fundraising and retail teams, ensuring alignment with Acorns’ mission and values
- Develop and implement a comprehensive and innovative income generation strategy to meet ambitious financial targets
- Work closely with the Director of Retail to lead the strategy and operational management of 43 high street shops and 4 superstores, driving sales growth and profitability
- Build collaborative relationships across the organisation, contributing to a culture of cross-function working
- Explore new opportunities, including prize-led giving and digital fundraising, to keep Acorns at the forefront of fundraising innovation
- Act as an ambassador for Acorns, including addressing prospective donors and partners at events
About you

- Extensive experience in fundraising leadership across multiple income streams
- A track record of creating and implementing innovative fundraising strategies
- A skilled leader with experience managing high-performing teams, providing guidance and support to maximise the strengths of staff
- Proven ability to think creatively, offering fresh approaches to fundraising that are both innovative and practical
- Ability to use data insights to drive strategy and decision-making, including tapping into demographic insights and donor behaviour to inform innovative fundraising strategies
- Strong public speaking and networking skills, including representing organisations at high-profile events, conferences, and other functions
