Digital Engagement Manager
This newly-created role brings the Printing Charity’s social media activity in-house for the first time to build and bring to life a cohesive digital communications and engagement plan.
You will be instrumental in shaping the Printing Charity’s use of digital, online and social media channels to extend the organisation’s reach to new audiences, making them aware of the services we provide; and inspiring two-way engagement with current partners and new audience groups. With responsibility for setting, implementing and evaluating the organisation’s overall online communications and engagement strategy, and with plenty of opportunity within the role for creative content development, plus line management of the Events and Communications Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring we can be here for as many people as possible as we approach our 200th year.
We’ll be shortlisting on an ongoing basis, so we would encourage people to submit applications as soon as possible.
The Printing Charity reserves the right to close the vacancy earlier should there be a large volume of applicants or if the post is filled.
Established in 1827, we’re the national charity for people in printing, packaging, paper, graphics and publishing.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

-
Yes! Please use your application to emphasise what of the above you feel you do best.
Q. What will my role be if I am successful in this process?
-
Final job descriptions and titles will be agreed together with the successful candidates. A role might be built around skills such as writing and communications, or it might be built around a work area such as advocacy or grants management. It is also possible that two holistic roles might be created but with a division of tasks. No one role will be expected to do everything, and every role will seek to balance existing experience with potential for growth.
Q. What is the process and timeline for this recruitment?
-
We will inform candidates if they’ve been selected for an interview by April 1, with interviews and tests taking place online April 7 - April 16. We hope to conclude recruitment by April 26 with start dates from June 1. We will assess applications on a rolling basis and retain the right to close the process early, in which case this advert will be removed from our website. All candidates will receive a response, with feedback restricted to interviewees on request.
Q. If I am successful, how often will I be expected to work from PBI’s office in London?
-
We are open to applications from candidates wishing to work entirely remotely. However, all candidates should expect to travel to London yearly and maybe more often. Priority may be given to those able to work in London. If your preference is to work in-person, we can guarantee desk space at our office three days per week. Working conditions are negotiable.
Q. What is the difference between PBI UK and PBI and where do these roles fit?
-
PBI is a global NGO made up of teams/sections which work together to enhance the security and impact of the human rights defenders we support. The roles in this advert will be employed by PBI’s UK section but will work closely with both PBI’s International Secretariat and other sections (including ‘frontline teams’ providing direct protection to threatened activists) to ensure our UK and global fundraising and advocacy are as effective as possible.
What staff say about working at PBI UK:
“In PBI UK you work in a compelling environment alongside an empathetic and caring team, who are constantly adapting to the evolving challenges of the work to best advocate for the protection of human rights defenders. No matter what position you hold, your voice will be heard and your ideas valued - it is a place where you can choose to grow in any and all directions to cultivate deep knowledge and an expansive skillset.” Yadira Sánchez-Esparza, former PBI UK volunteer & consultant
“Working with PBI UK is incredibly rewarding. I've had the opportunity to meet and support human rights defenders and community leaders, who shared their stories and hardships with me. I'm so grateful to be able to contribute to raising their voices, and for the trust they instil in me to do so. Their individual and collective defence of human rights is truly inspiring, even when they face the most difficult circumstances and reprisals.” Christina Challis, PBI UK Advocacy Manager
“With a defender-centered approach, and a team that genuinely cares for one another and for protecting and promoting human rights and environmental defenders, it is both a privilege and a joy to be part of PBI UK. Everyone is working towards the shared goal of providing holistic support to defenders at risk. We openly share ideas as a team, and I feel truly supported, both personally and professionally. Most of all, it is an honor to work alongside such brave activists, whose resilience and dedication are deeply inspiring.“
Lorna Ní Shúilleabháin, PBI UK Programme Support Consultant
What key stakeholders say about PBI:
“Without PBI, the work and defence of human rights in Colombia would not have been possible at the level it is today… I think PBI’s support was fundamental in saving the lives of many of my colleagues.”
Sebastián Escobar Uribe, human rights lawyer from CCAJAR, Colombia
“I think what I most admire about PBI is the fact that you’re very close to defenders in places that are very hostile ... When I started out, PBI was one of the organisations I looked to for ideas. I really like the accompaniment model.”
Mary Lawlor, UN Special Rapporteur on human rights defenders
“PBI UK is a strong human rights organisation punching above its weight on a small budget … Staff overwhelmingly feel a sense of teamwork, trust, and commitment to PBI’s mission … Stakeholders identified the skills, network, and thematic expertise of PBI UK’s new Director as a significant strength … Creativity, innovation, out-of-box thinking and a focus on impact were identified by both internal and external stakeholders as key characteristics of PBI UK.”

About us
We help families get time away together, often for the first time ever.
We're here for children living near the coast, who've never seen the sea. For teenagers who can't remember when they last saw mum smile. For parents having to choose between a day out and a new pair of school shoes. For young carers, grandparent carers, for families facing illness, isolation, or bereavement.
Holidays open up new possibilities. There’s time to reconnect, to try new things, and to make happy memories together. Time for running, playing, climbing trees and flying kites, time for picnics and bare feet. There’s time enough to share a laugh and watch the tide come in - for buckets and spades and sandy sandwiches.
Once we find out what each family needs, we take care of all the details. That way families can take care of the most important thing - each other.
Families choose the holiday they need. It could be a caravan on the coast, a woodland adventure, or a day out at a theme park, museum or gallery. And whatever the weather, if it means time spent together, even a day’s holiday helps build relationships, confidence and hope for the future.
Holidays also bring
- increased participation in education and paid work
- improved learning and behaviour at school
- more proactive and positive attitudes towards other types of support

YESS is seeking a vibrant and engaging person with relevant leadership experience to take over as CEO, to consolidate and build on recent growth and maintain YESS’s reputation as a leading national employment law advice charity.
About Us
Your Employment Settlement Service (YESS) is a legal advice charity and a company limited by guarantee. Established in 2014, we provide free and affordable employment law advice to people and organisations who cannot source this elsewhere. We do not litigate; our focus is on maintaining working relationships where possible or reaching negotiated agreements where it is not. We are approachable, collaborative, and constructive. Aggressive or adversarial styles have no place at YESS.
As well as advice work, we also have a growing mediation practice. We contribute to many working groups and panels to represent the needs of lower paid and vulnerable workers in the development of legal advice provision and employment law.
Typically, 10-20% of our work is grant funded, benefiting clients on low or no income (although this is currently under 10%). A small amount comes from donations. The remainder comes from paying clients.
The Role
As CEO, you will lead our dedicated team of lawyers and support staff, oversee the delivery of our strategic goals, and act as the public face of the charity. You will work with and advise the Board of Trustees, in relation to YESS’s activities, performance and strategic direction. You will raise awareness of our approach and activities, to bring in new work and funding, and contribute to the public discourse on employment relations and employment law.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the delivery of YESS’s charitable objects particularly the delivery of free and affordable advice services to lower paid and vulnerable individuals.
- Provide leadership to a small hybrid-working team, ensuring effective working supported by appropriate resources and supervision.
- Maintain and develop sources of revenue-generating legal work.
- Identify and secure funding from trusts, foundations, and donors.
- Strategically manage YESS’s finances.
- Ensure processes are in place for the effective engagement, motivation, performance management and support of staff, consultants, and volunteers.
About You
We are looking for someone who is experienced in the delivery of legal advice services with strong leadership experience, ideally gained in the charity sector. You may be a currently practising employment lawyer, but this is not imperative as no client work is required.
Essential attributes:
- Experience in the delivery of revenue-generating employment legal advice services gained in charity and/or private practice settings (in the capacity as either a qualified lawyer or as someone who has managed/directed qualified lawyers in the delivery of such advice).
- Commitment to YESS’s fundamental principle of resolving workplace disputes without litigation.
- Experience of leadership and strategy development.
- Excellent at relationship-building and communication, with proven networking skills.
- A desire to spread awareness of YESS’s work and influence policy development in employment relations and employment law.
- Experience in organisational growth and change management.
- Understanding of finance including budgets and cashflow.
- Commitment to implementing technology to make the most of YESS’s limited resources.
Desirable attributes:
- Fundraising and donor management experience
- Administration of grants and evaluating project outcomes
- Understanding of charity finance
- Understanding of finance in a legal services context, including work in progress, utilisation and lock up.
- Experience of working with trustees or other volunteer governance roles
- Experience of leading/managing staff remotely
What We Offer
- Salary: £65,000 per annum (pro-rata for part-time). Discretionary bonus dependent on organisational performance.
- 30 days annual leave, plus bank holidays (pro rata for part-time)
- Home working with flexibility of office attendance
- Pension contribution
- A supportive, inclusive work culture that values flexibility and work-life balance
