Sobell House Hospice Charity is looking for a collaborative and detail-oriented Director of Finance to join our Senior Management Team. With our retail and fundraising teams generating around £4m income annually, this is a growing and dynamic charity.
As Director of Finance, you will manage our finance function and lead our finance team. You will also work alongside the CEO, the Director of Fundraising and Director of Retail to develop the charity’s strategic direction, fulfil our aims and embody our values across the organisation and externally where appropriate, in conjunction with the Charity’s trustees. Main Responsibilities
As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will collaborate closely with the CEO, Directors, and Trustees, to deliver the aims and objectives of Sobell House Hospice Charity (SHHC), in particular supporting the delivery of income generation activity and grants to the NHS. You will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial management and compliance of the charity and its subsidiaries. The Director of Finance is also responsible for budgeting and reporting on the financial performance to the Trustees and particularly their Finance Committee, as well as communicating financial information and improving financial understanding at all levels of the organisation.

We’re looking for a self-motivated and creative fundraiser with experience in various fundraising areas and a record of meeting income targets.
You will have excellent people skills and be great at understanding our supporters and building long-lasting connections with them. You will also have strong written skills, with lots of experience of creating compelling and engaging communications that inspire and engage new and existing donors to support our work.
A key part of the role will be to manage and maintain our database (we use Raisers Edge) and other platforms to help personalise supporter communications – so you’ll need experience of using a CRM/data management system and knowledge of targeting, segmentation and data analysis.

England Portfolio Development Team
The permanent England Portfolio Development Team is taking forward the new England portfolio, ensuring we are delivering impact through our current funding portfolio whilst also looking to the future and developing new funding initiatives and ways of working to meet our 2030 vision.
This small team of eight works across the whole England directorate, the wider Fund, and externally with people, communities and civil society organisations who share our vision.

MAIN DUTIES
1.Being first point of contact for new business client enquiries, responding to messages from new clients and scheduling sales consultations with prospective clients. This includes acting on new referrals for paid service consultations within 24 hours, gaining the client's trust, identifying and advising on the best service to meet the client’s needs from initial assessment of their situation, and promoting confidence in Beacon and our ability to meet the client’s needs.
2.Liaising with relevant health trusts, care providers and other organisations to support the facilitation of assessments, as part of a new business request.
3. Providing operational support to Business Development Manager, including taking telephone enquiries from clients and arranging sales consultations. Supporting the Business Development Manager with sales consultations during holidays and at peak periods.
4.Drafting and sending detailed estimates to prospective clients following initial consultations and following up to close the sale.
5.Establishing a rapport with prospective clients, utilising Beacon’s reputation within the industry to generate business and maintaining excellent communication throughout the sales journey.
6.Managing the case allocation process including responsibility for ensuring cases are allocated in a timely way according to case deadlines.
7.Generating and sending out contracts and associated paperwork, and processing completed contracts for clients engaging in a paid service. Liaising with caseworkers for a smooth handover of the new case, ensuring that expectations are met and key deadlines understood by the caseworker.
8.Maintaining good communication with colleagues in the Information and Advice team to facilitate the smooth transfer of prospective clients from an advice call to a paid service consultation.
9.To keep relevant and sufficiently detailed case records following each client contact, ensuring that all client information is kept up to date in line with Beacon’s systems and procedures, including data protection policies.
10.Keeping sales data software up to date and producing monthly sales reports for Managing Director.
11.Responsible for the effective operation of client administrative procedures including operating and maintaining database and filing systems.
12.Arranging for the safe and secure transportation of sensitive client files and medical records for caseworkers and clients.
13.Attending line management, supervision and team meetings as appropriate.
14.Provide organisational, administrative and secretarial support to the sales and casework teams as required.

Background Information
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) is the name given to a package of care that some people need to receive due to disability, accident or illness. People who are eligible for CHC have the full cost of their care and residential accommodation funded by the NHS. This relieves families of sometimes astronomical care bills.
The criteria for determining who is eligible for CHC are highly complex and can be very difficult for the public to understand, and for professionals to apply consistently. The assessment process is lengthy and detailed. Likewise, the appeal process can be very daunting and perplexing.
Beacon was established in May 2014 for the purpose of providing independent and high-quality support to individuals and their families in England who need help navigating the NHS Continuing Healthcare process.

About the role
We’re seeking a dynamic leader to drive the financial growth of the organisation by expanding, diversifying and strengthening the sustainability of our voluntary income, in line with our Strategy 2030 and beyond.
You will lead and inspire a high-performing team of fundraising experts covering all disciplines including individual giving, major donors, legacies, challenge events, community fundraising, special events, trusts and corporate relationships.
The role combines strategic oversight with operational involvement, including direct management of key supporter relationships as well as representing the charity at high-level meetings and external events. SIA has doubled its income over the past six years and we have ambitious plans to build on successful fundraising initiatives, as well as develop new ones.
Key responsibilities:
- Rasing Funds: Be responsible for the achievement of realistic - yet ambitious - financial targets as agreed with the Director of Business Development.
- Strategic Planning: Lead on the development and delivery of strategic and operational plans to achieve growth, diversification and sustainability of SIA’s voluntary income.
- Team Management: Provide support, motivation and strategic direction to the fundraising team to deliver high quality results, including direct line management of four Manager-level roles.
- Capacity Building: Develop knowledge, skills and capacity within the Fundraising team to facilitate the achievement of objectives, whilst building succession plans for the future.
- Reporting: Monitor and evaluate performance across all fundraising activities, preparing reports to the Senior Leadership Team, Committees and Board of Trustees
- Innovating: Develop Proposals for long-term strategic income growth initiatives, in collaboration with the Director of Business Development.
- Leading: Be an active member of the Senior Leadership Team and contribute to addressing SIA-wide priorities, opportunities and challenges.
- Collaborating: Work with colleagues at all levels within the organisation, actively collaborating across teams and providing fundraising expertise and insight.
- Relationship Building: Build strong professional relationships with externa; partners, supporters, volunteers, Trustees, Vice Presidents, Ambassadors, advisors, consultants, suppliers and other key stakeholders.
- Designing: Contribute to the design and development of charitable programmes and services that underpin major funding propositions and compelling fundraising campaigns.
- Managing Risk: Play a leadership role in managing strategic and operational risks relating to income and ensure compliance with all relevant fundraising laws, guidelines and best practice, as well as SIA’s policies and procedures.
- Networking: Actively engage in relationship mapping and networking to expand SIA’s pool of potential donors, supporters and champions, including taking a direct lead role in managing key relationships.

Leaving care at 16-18 can be daunting. Many young people face isolation, housing instability, and unemployment. The charity works with Local Authorities to enable them to provide essential support so that young people can transition successfully into independent living. Since 2015, the House Project community has grown to 950 young people, with 515 securing stable housing without a single eviction or tenancy breakdown.
