Assist the Legacy Administration Team Leader by playing a pivotal role within the Legacy Administration Team, managing a diverse and active caseload of specific, residuary, and reversionary bequests.
Ensure the protection and maximisation of legacy income for Marie Curie by adhering to best practices and maintaining effective and sensitive communication with solicitors and personal executors, enhancing the charity's reputation.

The Legacy Administration Team plays a crucial role in generating income for the charity, working closely with marketing and local legacy fundraising partners. We promote personal development through ongoing training and collaboration across the Directorate and organisation.

Responsibilities

- Manage a caseload of specific, residuary, and reversionary legacies across the UK.
- Ensure Marie Curie receives its full entitlement in accordance with legal requirements, Wills, and settlements.
- Handle correspondence promptly, meeting internal service level agreements, and update case files accordingly.
- Liaise with other charities and act as lead charity when needed.
- Record and update legacy information in the FirstClass 4 database.
- Regularly review open cases, ensuring timely action to conclude them.
- Scrutinise estate accounts, ensuring correct administration and tax exemptions are applied.
- Obtain tax deduction certificates where cost-effective.
- Allocate legacies to restricted or unrestricted funds as per the Will.
- Comply with Law Society guidelines on Non-Contentious costs.
- Protect Marie Curie's interests in shared estates and lead charity discussions when appropriate.
- Represent Marie Curie in all correspondence with legal professionals and the public.
- Identify opportunities to increase the value of bequests and proactively manage asset sales.
- Recognise risks or disputes affecting entitlement and escalate as necessary.
- Collaborate with Legacy Marketing and Local Legacy teams and contribute to stewardship plans.

Breast Cancer Now are excited to recruit the new role of fundraising compliance officer to support its growing fundraising ambitions. As our fundraising compliance officer, you will play an essential role in ensuring our fundraising and marketing activities meet the highest standards in an ever-changing regulatory landscape, to mitigate potential risks for the charity and to maintain the trust of our supporters.

The varied role will work collaboratively with fundraising colleagues from across the charity. No day will feel the same, as you provide expert advice and assurance on a diverse range of fundraising products and marketing communications, this includes TV ads, prize competitions, social lotteries, and direct marketing campaigns. The role will work closely with individual giving team and our professional fundraising agencies to assure we are meeting our compliance commitments.

The successful candidate will also support the compliance team as it continues to develop the culture and maturity in fundraising compliance across the charity, with continuous improvement to our training, resources, process, communication and reporting.  

About you

The successful candidate will possess a blend of technical knowledge, analytical skills, interpersonal abilities and a keen eye for detail to ensure adherence to regulations and internal policies.

The ideal candidate will have some prior understanding of charity fundraising and the needs of working in an assurance role, but training can be provided.  Prior knowledge some data protection legislation and fundraising regulations would also be beneficial, such as the data protection act, fundraising code of practice, CAP code, gambling commission code, and HMRC gift aid rules. You will also be self-motivated and have an eagerness to learn and develop in line with the ever-changing regulatory landscape and the charities needs and goals.  

Ideal attributes of a candidate include an analytical mind, with the ability to review information, ask questions and make informed decisions to support the charity to meet its objectives, whilst also mitigating unnecessary risk.

You will be an approachable, confident and clear communicator, that can adapt your communication stye to a verity of audiences in order to convey complex information in a clear and understandable manner, that is both educational and builds productive relationships with colleagues.

Excellent organisation and IT skills are also essential tools of a potential candidate, as the role will require effective task prioritisation to manage an active schedule, record management of compliance registers and folders, plus the analysis and production of detailed guidance procedures and reports.

Scope

As a charity the RHN has to raise over £3.4M in voluntary income each year to pay for vital therapies and services that improve the quality of life experienced by people with severe or complex disabilities caused by brain injury. This includes a chaplaincy service, music therapy, therapeutic art, leisure and family services, assistive technology, research, medical equipment and capital refurbishment projects.

The Trusts & Major Gifts Team has annual income responsibility of £1M; the Legacy Team has annual income responsibility for £1M; the Events Team has annual income responsibility for £230kk from event and £75k from Corporate fundraising; the Donor Development Team has annual income responsibility of £550k.

The Trusts and Foundations Officer will work with the Senior Trusts Fundraiser and the Trusts and Major Gifts Manager to generate income though grant giving organisations. As a member of a small fundraising team, there is also a requirement to help with other ad hoc fundraising activities, in particular helping with events when necessary. In order to fulfil the role and understand nature of the hospital, it is required to work on site the majority of the time, with flexibility around hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Prospect Research - To conduct prospect research into appropriate trusts & foundations to identify new support for the RHN, and to and carry out suitable research on trusts and trustees using the internet and secondary research sources.
• Planning – Carry out extensive income planning and preparation ahead of each new financial year, including application planning using Excel to chart monthly applications, amounts sought and estimated response dates.Assist the Trusts and Major Gifts Manager to prepare the Fundraising Team’s projected income ahead of each new financial year. Take ownership of, understand, rationalise, and where necessary, adapt how the post holder’s personal income target is to be achieved.
• Annual Trusts Mailing, collating and checking the list of recipients, writing funder updates, administering the mailing, acknowledging all gifts and documenting all correspondence or Raiser’s Edge, relevant spreadsheets and electronic files.
• Administration – Ensure that records are regularly updated to reflect fundraising activity on Raiser’s Edge; use spreadsheets to record planned applications, projected income and secured income. Keep records of all donor correspondence on Raiser’s Edge and electronic files.
• Information gathering - To have an updated and working knowledge of funding requirements for the RHN which have been budgeted for and develop an understanding of how gifts for special purposes are allocated.
• Events – To support the wider team in hosting and preparation for events. Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends.
• Best Practice - To adhere to best practice in prospect cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, and ensure that the appropriate ethical policies and practices of the RHN are followed.
• Relationship Development – to ensure effective and co-operative relationships are established and maintained with donors and also internal staff, volunteers and senior volunteers.

Essential skills

• Educated to degree level (or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of fundraising best practice, with at least 12 months experience in trusts fundraising and a proven track record of developing a trusts pipeline and securing funds.
• Possess an energetic, pro-active, ‘can-do’ attitude.
• Good IT skills with experience of using Microsoft Office, and preferably a fundraising database such as Raiser’s Edge.
• Experience of using research tools to acquire information about existing and prospective funders. Excellent prospect research and profile creation.
• Excellent interpersonal skills – relationship building and networking skills to develop and nurture donor relationships. Ability to establish rapport with a diverse range of people.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and financially numerate.
• Organised approach to work – proactive, good and methodical administrative skills, with good planning and time-management. Ability to prioritise and think work well under pressure.
• Creative thinking and problem solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills to put across compelling and persuasive cases for support with outstanding written style.

About the role

We’re looking for a Legacy Marketing Officer to join our Individual Giving and Legacy Team.

It’s an exciting time to join the Legacy Team as we are embarking on a new era for legacy and in memory giving at Young Lives vs Cancer.  In memory giving and gifts in Wills left to us by our supporters are essential to ensuring we can help generations of children and young people who will sadly be living with a cancer diagnosis. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Legacy Marketing Officer to play a pivotal role in supporting the Legacy Marketing Manager to plan, implement and deliver legacy and in-memory strategies.

The Legacy Officer will work on a range of legacy and in-memory campaigns, materials and supporter centric journeys across multiple channels.  As a team we will maximise legacy and in memory giving and acquire new legacy and in memory supporters, as well as nurturing existing supporters who have expressed an interest in leaving a gift in their Will for the future of Young Lives vs Cancer’s work. 

The role will suit a passionate and creative individual who thrives on working collaboratively and who is able to manage end to end projects and supplier relationships.  There will be a need to analyse data to monitor performance as well as identifying trends and opportunities. Fulfilment mapping is also a key element of the role as well as being comfortable presenting in person to colleagues and suppliers.

What will I be doing?

You will:

• Provide a high quality and flexible housing management duties to vulnerable tenants who reside in managed properties across Brent, Wandsworth and Westminster boroughs. 
• Conduct weekly fire, health and safety checks including fire alarm testing of specified housing schemes as well as monthly and quarterly flat/room checks in order to ensure compliance with relevant legislations.

The Head of Development and Impact will be our lead fundraiser, drawing in support and expertise from across the team. They will take ownership of identifying funding sources, creating a strategy, forecasting our fundraising income, and building strong relationships with donors, bringing the experiences of our group members to life in fundraising communications. They will line management a full-time fundraiser who specialises in individual giving while the Head of Developent, Operations and Impact will lead on grant writing. 

In the last 5 years, this role has achieved huge success in CARAS’ development, more than trebling our income and enabling us to expand our staff team and therefore our reach. We are a highly impactful organisation that is often looked to for our insight in the sector. We have an ambitious five-year strategy, co-produced with group members, staff, volunteers, trustees and partner organisations, that guides our current work. 

This is an exciting role that comes with many varied commitments, expectations and timescales. The role: 

The Head of Development, Operations and Impact is required to lead a wide range of activities. You will be expected to manage your own time, prioritising tasks and leading a small team of people who contribute to CARAS’ fundraising. You will inherit excellent systems and skilled, supportive and enthusiastic team players. You will work closely with the CEO, and the senior leadership team which draws together Heads of Service from each of our programme areas. You will collaborate with our Finance Manager to ensure smooth management of grants and donations, and will play a key role in budget setting with the Finance Manager and CEO. 

The role demands cross-departmental working, and regular contact with community members to enhance your ability to advocate for them. You will be at the forefront of developing new ideas and approaches, and ensuring that teams have the money and resources to have an impact. 

Key tasks and activities. 

General 

• Lead the Operations department, line-managing team members in fundraising and operations management.

• Secure diverse and sustainable income streams to secure the future of CARAS. 

• Be the main point of contact for grant-makers and donors, communicating clearly and effectively about our work and its impacts. 

• Participate in organisational strategic reviews, making decisions on how to prioritise where limited resources are focused across the different activities and projects. 

• Carry out other duties as necessary and commensurate with the role. 

Fundraising 

• Line-manage our Fundraising Officer and work together to generate income to meet CARAS’s budgetary targets through trusts and foundations, individual giving, community fundraising and other means at our disposal. 

• Develop and deliver a fundraising strategy which synchronises with the CARAS Strategic Plan.

• Maintain a real-time pipeline of fundraising opportunities and oversee delivery. Lead or allocate all income generation opportunities in good time so that appropriate co-design and decision-making processes are behind applications. 

• Ensure compliance with best practice in fundraising including use of data and confidentiality. 

• Work collaboratively with Heads of Service and CARAS’ Finance Manager to develop, deliver and iterate systems to ensure grants are accurately and effectively managed. 

• Lead on the development of programmatic and core budgets for diverse grant funders. 

• Identify and build corporate partnerships based on organisational needs, values and income targets. 

Operations  

• Line-manage our Operations Manager and work together to ensure our premises, IT infrastructure, data management and risk management systems are effective, efficient, and legally compliant.

• Oversee or directly manage service providers and ensure that all contractors represent value for money and are appointed in line with our policies. 

• Maintain and develop strong, effective partnerships with delivery stakeholders such as our landlords, Wandsworth Council officers etc.

• Support the team to monitor projects from start to finish, including preparing costing for applications/bids, agreeing contracts and grant terms, monitoring deliverables and finance, and co-ordinating timely reporting. 

Finance 

• Work collaboratively with the Finance Manager to ensure the rigorous financial management across all income and expenditure to ensure all grants and donations are accurately accounted for and spent. 

• Working collaboratively with the Finance Manager and CEO, develop the organisational annual budget and lead on income projections for the year ahead to ensure expenditure budgets are feasible and unlock multi-year growth. 

Monitoring, evaluation and impact 

• Leading CARAS’ annual outcomes evaluation, managing work across departments to collect, disaggregate and analyse outcomes data from our Learning, Casework and Social Programmes. 

• Develop CARAS’ outcomes report and donor report ensuring they are data rich and clearly demonstrate impact. 

• Monitoring the wealth of data CARAS collects through our frontline service to ensure we stay agile and adaptable within a changing policy context, supporting Heads of Service and other relevant stakeholders to deliver excellence. 

Governance 

• Contribute to the maintenance of up-to-date policies relevant to the role.

• Attend board meetings as requested to share reports with the Board on fundraising.

• Work closely with the Treasurer and the Finance Committee on fundraising strategy.

Job Profile 

The leadership and Governance Officer is a key role that enables CAFOD’s Leadership (the Executive Team) and Governance (the Board of trustees) teams to fulfil their remits well through sound administration, organisation, and relationship-building skills. 

The post sits at the centre of CAFOD and will have a broad overview of key issues affecting CAFOD’s work and the management mechanisms in place to address them.  The post holder will have proven experience in providing sound administrative and organisational support at a board/senior management level. This includes excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to interact across different cultural settings. They will have experience in setting meeting agendas, following up on key actions and experience in forward planning with excellent project management skills to support the Board of Trustees. 

The post holder will ensure: 

• That the governance of meetings and functions in CAFOD (Board of Trustees and relevant committees) are well planned, effective and documented transparently. 

• That governance reporting requirements are fulfilled to a high quality and in a timely fashion. This includes minute-taking, serious incident reporting and follow-up actions. 

• That they keep abreast of changes in the governance environment and ensure CAFOD is following charity commission regulations appropriately, engaging with relevant Directors accordingly. 

• That key stakeholders receive a high-quality service from the small Directorate team. This includes CAFOD colleagues and supporters, Trustees, Catholic Church officials and members of the public. 

The role is part of the Governance Team, which has a broad, cross-organisational remit, working closely with CAFOD’s Directors.  

The post holder will also manage the Leadership and Governance Assistant who provides direct support to CAFOD’s Executive Director and Executive Team. Line management of this post holder is provided by the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities 

Ensuring effective Governance (60%) 

• Acting as Secretary to the Trustees and Committees, ensuring that the annual meeting cycle (Governance Calendar) is followed, records of meetings are kept and that external submissions (e.g. the annual report, serious incidents, and other reporting) take place in a timely manner. 

• Ensuring Trustee and Trustee committee meetings are well-planned (dates, papers, agendas, attendance, etc.) and well-run (including guidance for Chair, minuting, follow-up, action tracking, etc) and that follow up actions are monitored and undertaken.

• Liaise with Trustees on governance matters, including due diligence requests, and events, planning a schedule of Trustee travel to international programmes. 

• Overseeing the recruitment and induction of trustees to CAFOD’s Board and coordinating their on-going training and development in conjunction with the Governance Lead Trustee. 

• Manage the policy review processes and document management with support from the Leadership and Governance Assistant. 

• Ensuring relevant policies come to the Board of Trustees for review in line with the schedule of reporting as outlined in the Governance Calendar. The meeting calendar dates are reviewed on an annual basis in October (so next review is October 2025). 

• To be responsible for CAFOD Trustee’s Annual Report being produced in a timely and accurate way, commissioning a consultant. 

• Liaising with the Executive Members regarding governance matters ensuring that they are able to provide relevant and accessible information in a timely manner. 

• Assist with the communication of CAFOD’s governance work with key donors, supporters and other stakeholders. 

• Working with the Governance Lead Trustee to implement any necessary improvements in CAFOD’s governance mechanisms.   

Ensuring the effective running of the Executive Team (25%)  

• Providing strategic guidance on governance issues and support to CAFOD’s Trustees and Leadership Team. 

• Managing the Governance and Leadership assistant to ensure that Executive Team meetings are well-planned (dates, papers, agendas, attendance, etc.) and well-run (including minuting, follow-up, action tracking, etc.). 

• Having a broad oversight of all critical projects and support the team to deliver its objectives on time and to budget. 

• Brief the Executive Team on matters arising as needed especially governance. 

• Process organisational grants and memberships. 

• Alongside the Governance and Leadership Assistant, maintain an overview of CAFOD’s key contacts and relationships with the Catholic Church 

Support to the Director (15%) 

• Working closely with the Executive Director in planning trustee board meetings, following up on necessary actions and ensuring that papers and other necessary information are well produced, accurate and timely. 

• When the Governance and Leadership assistant is absent, to manage the diary of the Executive Director. This includes broad insights to plan effective use of their time, including sufficient time to follow up on actions and to prepare for internal and external commitments. 

• Provide support on Budget monitoring for the team with input from the Executive Director and L&G assistant. 

• When required monitoring the ED inbox, ensuring that requests are followed up and that communications are drafted and signed off, as necessary. 

• Forward planning and ensure coordination of travel. 

• Prepare briefings and presentations for the ED when required. 

People Management 

Lead, manage, develop and support the Leadership and Governance Assistant by championing CAFOD’s purpose and values through building strong and safe working relationships, setting SMART objectives and conducting performance reviews, and nurturing staff career development.  Encouraging collaborative ways of working and aiding staff to be adaptable to change whilst engaging with the external and internal context.

We are seeking a Research Funding Officer (Research Impact) to work mainly on our Research Grant Programme. As part of our Research Funding team, you will support high quality and innovative research on the effects of diet, nutrition, physical activity, and body size on cancer prevention and survival, managing an international portfolio of projects and working closely with leading researchers around the world.

In addition to the Research Grant programme, you will have the opportunity to contribute to other Research Funding activities such as our Academy programme and work closely with colleagues across the Science department and with other departments such as PR & Editorial and Fundraising.

The Research Funding Officer (Research Impact) will work mainly on the post award phase (e.g. active monitoring of funded projects, liaison with our grant holders, supporting our Academy programme initiative and evaluation of the impact of our funded research).

You will have experience working in a fast-paced research environment, whether in academia or research administration/management. Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills are essential for engaging a diverse range of audiences. Additionally, you should possess a solid understanding of statistical analysis. A Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or Nutrition is required, while a Master’s degree is preferred but not essential. An interest in science communication and social media is also desirable.
