About the role:

We are seeking a Chief Operating Officer to co-lead and implement the organisation’s strategy, operational and fiscal oversight and team management – including with science, marine operations, logistics, data, communications, finance and central operations teams along with an international alliance of science, business, government, philanthropic and civil society partners.

Our Finance team is looking to recruit a Finance Officer to join our Accounts Payable (AP) team for a fifteen months fixed term contract and support the work and transactions that British Heart Foundation (BHF) perform for us to fund lifesaving science.
 
As an Accounts Payable Finance Officer, you'll support the team and take responsibility for delivering a high-quality service in terms of timely, accurate and efficient entry of BHF expenditure onto our central accounting system. Working on data capture, you will have knowledge of IPOS queue management.

You'll ensure you achieve key performance indicators and individual targets agreed upon and set by the AP Team leader, ensuring that all transactions are coded and authorised to meet month end deadlines and meet agreed service levels.

The AP team provides a high level of customer service, ensuring colleagues and suppliers are kept updated in the process and that the payment process is as smooth as possible, so you’ll effectively manage your workload and escalate complex issues to the team lead.

Understanding the needs of customers, you’ll raise the profile of finance through provision across the AP team of best-in-class service both internally and externally.

Working arrangements

This is a 15 month fixed-term contract, to service a programme of work where extra resources are required.

This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.

About you 
 

You’ll have previous experience within accounts payable or be someone wanting to get into Finance with strong organisational skills, able to pick up tasks quickly and with ease.

With excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, you’ll be able to build strong working relationships within Finance and across the BHF and be comfortable communicating finance information to non-finance colleagues. We are seeking an experienced evidence (systematic) reviewer to support the development of clinical guidelines, guidance statements, national audit and new product reviews, as well as supporting the wider membership and Faculty officers in responding to evidence and research enquiries. Part of the role will be to help establish the technical team and providing advice on appropriate methods and processes for the programme of work.

As part of the CEU team the postholder will work closely with the Clinical Director for the CEU, CEU team, clinical fellows, FSRH Clinical Quality Committees and senior faculty officers as well as national and international clinical experts involved in the field of sexual and reproductive healthcare. Key duties will include identifying and appraising relevant evidence using established systematic review methods and developing structured evidence summaries across a range of products. The postholder will also support the development of methods and new ways of working in conjunction with other members of the team.

The Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH) is the leader in the field of sexual and reproductive healthcare, and we are the voice for professionals working in this area. As a multi-disciplinary professional membership organisation, we set clinical guidance and standards, provide training and lifelong education, and champion safe and effective sexual and reproductive healthcare across the life course for all. 

The Clinical Effectiveness Unit (CEU) at the FSRH develops a range of evidenced-based clinical guidance documents including clinical guidelines, statements and new product reviews as well as associated activities such as national benchmarking audits and responding to member evidence enquiries. The CEU is part of the wider Clinical Quality programme overseen by the Director for Clinical Quality who manages this role.

The role:

1. Analytical and technical:

Responsible for developing a range of literature reviews (scoping, umbrella, and systematic reviews) for clinical guidelines and guidance in accordance with FSRH processes and established evidence synthesis methodologies. This includes:

• Contributing to the development of scopes,
• Developing review questions and protocols,
• Systematic searching and identification of relevant evidence,
• Full quality assessment of evidence including application of GRADE framework
• Synthesising, collating and summarising quantitative and qualitative evidence
• Summarising and presenting evidence to guideline committees (GDG)
• Preparing written summaries of the evidence / GDG discussions as part of the guideline, guidance statements, evidence enquiries or new product reviews

2. Supporting methodological developments

• Contributing to the technical review of methods and the continuous improvement of methodological practices, proposing changes to processes and methodology as appropriate

3. Planning and project management:

• Working with the team, in particular the project co-ordinator, to help plan the work of the CEU and the delivery of guidelines, guidance and associated activities
• Monitor and control guideline development progress, ensuring adherence to project plans
• Contribute to identifying and mitigating risks and issues in relation to the development of guidelines, guidance and associated products
• Co-ordinate and lead guideline development project meetings, ensuring effective communication among team members

4. Communication:

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships and engagement with a range of internal and external staff, including senior FSRH staff and officers, clinical experts, academics and patient organisations.
• Presenting complex information to multidisciplinary and lay groups such as guideline development groups or FSRH clinical committees
• Contributing to publications and articles on FSRH guidelines and guidance
• Responding to member, press or officer enquiries regarding FSRH outputs and relevant evidence

You will have:

•  A Master’s degree level or a higher postgraduate qualification in a related area (for e.g. Public health, life sciences, epidemiology or medical statistics), or medical degree with experience in health services research, or equivalent level of experience gained in a relevant role

About Forest Farm Peace Garden

Forest Farm Peace Garden is a unique mental health and environment project. Our garden in Hainault is an oasis of beauty and tranquillity offering an inspiring and welcoming space for people to connect with nature and meet other people.

We run an ecotherapy programme, involving activities in nature, to support people with mental health recovery. We also run workshops, events and volunteering for the wider community. 

Activities in our garden include gardening and food growing, caring for our large fruit orchard, growing medicinal plants, caring for wildlife, woodwork and arts and crafts.

We are seeking a talented and passionate Director to lead and develop Forest Farm Peace Garden’s work and impact. This is a new role which is central to leading the organisation, shaping our plans and enabling us to grow.  You will oversee a small team of 3 staff, who are responsible for our Ecotherapy programme and Garden and Site maintenance and who support over 25 buddy volunteers and 30 supported volunteers each year.

We are looking for a confident and collaborative leader with experience and expertise in leading and developing teams, fundraising and financial management. Experience and awareness of community-based organisations and mental health services would be advantageous, as would experience of horticulture or creative activities.

The right person will be passionate about mental health, able to build strong relationships across the sector and be an enthusiastic and dynamic ambassador. They will be organised and effective, able to ensure the maintenance and development of funding streams and to work with and be accountable to the Board of Trustees.

About the team
The Research Team produces innovative research to understand the nature and causes of housing and homelessness problems. Our work helps Shelter develop great policy and high impact campaigns, as well as supporting the charity’s fundraising and service development activities.

We carry out primary and secondary research, both in-house and commissioned, with Shelter clients and the even greater number of people in housing need, many of which often don’t seek help. The team is externally recognised as the go-to organisation for credible, robust and insightful evidence and analysis on housing issues. And, as part of Shelter’s belief in the power of communities to effect change, we work closely with our campaigning hubs across England to support grassroots and lived experience-led research.

About the Role

This role is an exciting opportunity to work for Mind BLMK as part of the Fundraising & Engagement Team.

Acting as the first point of contact for all Fundraising & Comms enquiries and in line with Mind BLMK’s Fundraising and Communications Strategy, this is a busy role and will require excellent stewardship and donor care skills as well as meticulous organisation and innovative thinking. As an Ambassador for Mind BLMK, you will need to have a passion for mental health and an ability to operate at all levels.

The successful applicant will generate income and support all aspects of communication and marketing, to help to maximise local support, raise awareness of our work in the community, and by providing exceptional supporter stewardship, in line with Mind BLMK’s Fundraising and Communication strategy.

Key Duties

• Engage and support stewardship and donor care for Mind BLMK’s individual givers, corporates, groups, volunteers and other supporters of the charity, in line with the fundraising strategy.
• Send and engage with donors, appropriate information and materials to support their fundraising at Mind BLMK.
• Ensure supporter interaction points (telephone, post, email) adhere to the highest standard.
• Support fundraising and engagement in the development of new partnerships with corporates, organisations, and individuals, to support income growth.
• Support and engage with the fundraiser, donor through the customer journey.
• Work with the wider team at Mind BLMK and with our national partners at Mind.
• Contact by phone, email and meet supporters or potential supporters of Mind BLMK and communicate key messages and ensure their fundraising is promoted and celebrated across all social media channels.
• Support the implementation of marketing strategies and targeted campaigns; plan, develop, and ensure the production of multi-media communications, PR, and marketing materials.
• Support the data capture, monitoring of and reporting on the effectiveness of marketing, PR and publicity activities, making recommendations as required.
• Ensure the quality assurance for the implementation of Mind branding guidelines and specifications across the organisation; reviewing, monitoring, and advising as necessary to ensure corporate identity is maintained in line with Mind BLMK policies and procedures.
• Support the functions of the publication and distribution of press materials, news stories, and updates, both internally and externally.
• Support the maintenance of Mind BLMK’s websites, social media accounts, Mailchimp newsletters, and web administration profiles and content (including but not limited to - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In).

In this role, you will pro-actively deliver and support SPANA communications and campaigns projects and activities. Your work will range from ensuring working animals are represented in the global news agenda, to raising awareness of organisational and income- generating activities, in line with our strategy.

Media and PR

- Deliver local, national and international PR (both online and offline), supporting awareness-raising, global programmes, emergency, fundraising and advocacy activities and campaigns.
- Implement media plans in line with the global fundraising, marketing and communications strategy and in support of communications KPIs.
- Produce and distribute press releases, articles, statements, case studies, Q&A sheets, position statements, briefings, press packs and other media materials.
- Identify opportunities for, and support the development of, appropriate content (video, imagery etc) for media release.
- Act as a first point of contact for media enquiries, providing out-of-hours media cover as required, including weekends.
- Oversee the production of video news releases or other content for broadcasters and digital media, assisting and supporting the content team in editing footage
- Scan the media and the internet daily for opportunities for comment, drafting responses as appropriate.
- Manage the media centre section of the SPANA website.
- Communications and campaigns
- Work with the Communications and Campaigns team and colleagues to plan and implement strategic communications designed to grow awareness and understanding of the charity’s work and support income generation activities.
- Work with Global Programmes staff to identify and develop potential stories of geopolitical
- Support the development of SPANA’s work with high-profile public figures, including celebrities and influencers, liaising with individuals and and their agents to support communications objectives.
- Support SPANA’s campaigning (lobbying and influence) work at meetings with partners and other stakeholders and identify media opportunities around advocacy work.

Brand and content

- Work with Communications Manager on SPANA publications, including copy for marketing materials, the website and internal communications.
- Work with the Senior Content Officer, in-country teams and freelancers, to develop, catalogue and select content (photography, video, case studies).
- Oversee the production of promotional materials as required.
- Proof copy and review materials against brand guidelines on behalf of staff from across the charity.

Knowledge, Training and Qualifications

- Educated to degree level or equivalent or with comparable press, journalistic or communications on-the-job experience.
- Knowledge of charity/not-for-profit communications.
- Excellent knowledge of the UK media environment, including print, broadcast and digital.
- An understanding international development issues, the importance of working animals and livestock in that context, and the international agencies and NGOs working in this field.
- Professional qualifications and training in communications or journalism (desirable).

Experience

- Experience of working in a busy press or communications environment, including interacting with national media.
- Expertise in managing both reactive and proactive media relations.
- An experienced writer, with the ability to produce engaging, persuasive copy that is tailored to the needs of particular audiences.
- Experience of proofreading to check for spelling/grammar and adherence to the SPANA brand and style guide.
- Experience of digital communications, including writing for the web.
- Experience of media contacts databases, such as Gorkana/Cision.
- Experience of cataloguing and logging content and editing videos particularly for social media (desirable)
- Experience of project management and delivering projects on budget and within deadline.
