Our shops raise funds to support our pet 48 hospitals and increase awareness of the work we do to get the nation PetWise.

As a Volunteer Customer Service Assistant in one of our shops, you will be the face of PDSA. You will make sure that our customers receive a warm welcome and help us to achieve our ambition of delivering the best customer service of any UK charity. The Open Age reception team builds the personal relationships that make our visitors feel comfortable and relaxed while we inform them of the activities we offer, help them select and book onto those that suit them best, and assist with the practical, ongoing event support that gives people a great customer experience. Reception Volunteer Role
· Support and strengthen Open Age reception team to provide a high-quality customer service experience to center visitors, members and potential volunteers.

Reception Volunteer Tasks
· Greet members and drop-in visitors warmly, courteously and in a way that settles any anxiety or confusion on arrival at reception.
· Provide information and publications about upcoming activities and events, giving directions to venues and classes where needed.
· Assist staff in setting up rooms and providing refreshments for members when needed.
· Answer telephone and email enquiries in a prompt and courteous manner, and follow up members by phone and email to update them on any course changes and developments.
The Open Age Reception Volunteer is an unpaid, voluntary role, though any appropriate out-of-pocket expenses, including travel and subsistence will be reimbursed on production of the appropriate receipts. FareShare is a national charity that fights food poverty and climate change by tackling food waste.
We source food that is surplus to requirements from food retailers and manufacturers, and engage many volunteers to help redistribute this to local Community Food Members (CFMs), who provide meals to people and families experiencing food poverty.
We operate from our FareShare Greater Manchester regional centre, which is based on New Smithfield Market in Openshaw, and has been run by EMERGE 3Rs since 2008.
This role is vital to the work of FareShare; ensuring that the food delivered to our warehouse is correctly sorted, labelled and organised into the orders placed by our charities and community groups.
You will be required to complete introductory sessions before you are confirmed in the role.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must be resident in the UK and living in Greater Manchester, or within easy commuting distance of our base, in order to volunteer with us. There are no exceptions to this rule. What is the purpose of this role? To help with collections and deliveries of furniture, and transfer of stock between our shop in Sutton in Ashfield and our storage unit at Ransom Wood.
What impact does this role have? This role helps the shops to run efficiently and effectively, to be able to sell products for Age UK Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, which in turn, can be used to allow Age UK Notts to continue to run effective services for older people.
What activities might you be involved in?
· Travelling with the driver to pick up donated items (furniture, white goods, bric-a-brac, clothing, or a mix of all 4)
· Completing deliveries with the driver to customers’ homes
· Processing items at Ransom Wood storage unit when there is no room to deposit them straight into the shop.
· Volunteering in line with the Charity’s policies and procedures and adhering to the Volunteer Code of Conduct
What are we looking for?
· The physical ability to lift and move furniture and other stock so applicants should be physically fit and be able to complete these tasks
· A willingness to complete a variety of tasks both at the shop and at the Ransom Wood storage unit.
· An individual who gets on well with people to facilitate good customer service.
When would you be needed to volunteer?
The Sutton Shop is open Monday – Saturday between 10am and 4pm, and we are looking for individuals to support on one day each week (to be discussed and agreed following a successful interview).

We’re looking for three volunteers over the age of 18 years old, to provide communication support to stroke survivors at one of our Support Groups, which is based at Ashwell House, 167 Verulam Road, St Albans AL3 4DW.
You’ll be volunteering:
For one and a half hours a week every week, between 10:30am and 12:00pm, in blocks of 8 sessions.
We are looking for communication service supporters to assist stroke survivors in developing their communication skills in a group setting.
The volunteers will:
· Be an effective communication service supporter you need great listening skills and be able to support people in an empathetic and non-judgemental way.
· Be willing to learn and use the technique, called ‘supported conversation’, that is used to support people with communication difficulties.
If you are someone who enjoys conversation, meeting new people and likes to try new things, then this role might be a good one for you.

It's something of a community hub, an inspiring and happy emporium. It is often the first place people hear about the hospice. If you’re on the shop floor then a large part of the day can be spent talking with and listening to customers. It can also be the first port of call for those with a terminal diagnosis or someone seeking help for a friend or loved one.
What will I be doing?

Greeting customers warmly, helping them and sharing information about our hospice.

Helping create attractive displays.

Organising and refilling shelves and racks.

Dusting, vacuuming and tidying.

Receiving, sorting, pricing, and preparing donated items.

Processing sales using cash and card payments.

Helping us advertise special events through conversations, window displays and posters.

Working together within the retail team to support the smooth running of the shop.

What do I need to have?

Shop floor volunteers need a friendly and approachable manner with excellent communication and people skills.

Good organising ability

Reliability and punctuality, with a sense of commitment and teamwork.

Initiative and an eye for detail.

Willingness to adapt to different tasks as and when shop priorities change.

Experience in retail or customer service would be helpful but isn’t essential.
What training and support will I be given?
You will be supported by the Charity Shop Manager and given induction and training to ensure you feel confident and capable in your role. As part of the wider hospice team, you’ll also have the chance to take part in various team wellbeing and development opportunities, plus additional learning.

What is the purpose of this role?
Supporting staff to manage the stockroom at the shop in Sutton in Ashfield.
What impact does this role have?
This role helps the shops to run efficiently and effectively, to be able to sell products for Age UK Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, which in turn, can be used to allow Age UK Notts to continue to run effective services for older people.
What activities might you be involved in?
· Supporting staff to manage the stock room within the Sutton shop.
· Keeping racking clean and tidy.
· Organising space to maintain good health and safety systems.
· Accepting donations from supporters that visit the shop and encouraging those who are taxpayers to sign up to Gift Aid to increase the value of the donation when sold by 25%.
· Volunteering in line with the Charity’s policies and procedures and adhering to the Volunteer Code of Conduct
What are we looking for?
· The physical ability to lift and move furniture and other stock so applicants should be physically fit and be able to complete these tasks.
· A willingness to complete a variety of tasks.
· An ability to get on well with others and to volunteer as part of a team
· An individual who gets on well with people to facilitate good customer service.
When would you be needed to volunteer?
The Sutton Shop is open Monday – Saturday between 10am and 4pm, and we are looking for individuals to support on one day each week (to be discussed and agreed following a successful interview).

You will be given all the training you need to enable you to carry out your role which will include a thorough induction.
