Job Description Finance Officer

Imago Dei is a small but growing charity that works with women in prison and once they leave prison. We are seeking a part-time Finance Officer to aid our growth, the role can be a hybrid working role incorporating some office working, and in-person attendance at staff meetings and staff days. 

We are looking for a team member that will be able to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the finances of Imago Dei using QuickBooks and associated applications.  To ensure, alongside the accountant, that the charity remains compliant with all statutory financial regulations that apply to it and any subsidiaries and coordinating the preparation of data to meet reporting requirements.  Streamlining processes and systems.

The role will require someone who can work flexibly and independently, with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate must be comfortable using accounting software and be confident and able to adapt their skills to meet the requirements of an organization, in a period of rapid growth and change.

Main duties:

The role includes but is not limited to:

1. To be responsible for accurate data input and analysis using accounting software and other commercial systems

2. Processing transactions including purchase ledger, sales ledger, nominal ledger, payroll journals, general journals, bank posting; and helping resolve any other related issues

3. Complete bank reconciliations, petty cash reconciliations, cash flow analysis and reconciliation of Balance Sheet accounts on a monthly basis

4. Monitor and process expenses and co-ordinate the management of company cards

5. Co-ordinate cash management and banking, including thanking donors

6. Running payroll, processing pensions and resolving related issues and the issuing of associated notices and documents

7. Assist in the preparation of accruals, prepayments, and other relevant journals to produce management accounts

8. Working closely with Head of Fundraising in processing and monitoring grants, donations and gift aid claims, and support non-financial managers with associated processes and documentation

9. Work with the Head of Fundraising and CEO in the setting and monitoring of budgets and assist non-financial managers in interpreting, preparing, and monitoring related information

10.  Support and train Budget Holders and other staff in using financial information, systems and tools, and work with managers to resolve more complex issues and develop appropriate financial systems

11. Attend meetings and liaise with colleagues as required

12. Attend staff meetings and training relevant to the role

13. Comply with all relevant Health & Safety, Safeguarding, DEI and GDPR Guidelines

14.  Work with colleagues to actively promote the work of the charity and participate in fundraising

15. Ensure compliance with internal quality assurance standards

16. Uphold and promote the Mission and Values of the Charity

17. Undertake any such appropriate duties as directed by the charity from time to time.

Essential Skills and Experience

Proven ability to support a significant finance function

An appropriate financial qualification

An understanding of, and interest in women in the Criminal Justice System, their situations, and the opportunities they may want and/or need

Experience of financial administration in the charity sector

Experience of working with QuickBooks

Experience of Petty Cash management

Excellent computer skills including using main Microsoft packages as well as experience of remote working and related systems

Experience of payroll administration including Sage Payroll

Experience of supporting the preparation of organisational budgets and cash flow management

The ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as the ability to work alone

Good interpersonal skills

Good communication skills (verbal and written)

Sound understanding of the differing requirements of management accounts and statutory accounts particularly in a charity setting

Highly organised and methodical

The proven ability to maintain resilience and optimism in the face of challenges and changing priorities and circumstances

Ability to travel on occasion to different 

locations

Excellent understanding of GDPR requirements and Data Protection

Understanding of and adherence to organisational Code of Conduct, supporting positive change across the charity.

About this role

We are pleased to advertise for a Head of Death Penalty Projects- US to oversee our work against the death penalty in the United States of America. 

Reprieve has worked against the death penalty since our founding. In recent years we have built a particular specialism in issues relating to lethal injection, the most popular execution method in the US. Lethal injection has been touted as more humane than other methods – a modern, clean, clinical way to execute. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Lethal injection executions go wrong more often than any other execution method, often resulting in prolonged and torturous executions, commonly known as “botched” executions. Through our work we aim to dispel the myth of the humane execution, working with allies across medicine, business and other sectors to end the misuse of medicines and medical technology in executions.

The existing portfolio of work includes litigation, investigation and analysis, corporate engagement, a wide range of public and private advocacy, and developing and maintaining world-leading expertise on execution methods, particularly the jurisprudence and science relevant to lethal injection.

Contract, location and salary

The role is a full-time, permanent position with a salary of £59,226 per annum less any required deductions for tax and national insurance.Reprieve operates a hybrid working model and we require staff to work a minimum of 40% from the London office and the rest of the week from home. There is the opportunity for international travel in the role.

We’re seeking excellent Teaching Assistants who want to enjoy a completely different way of working!

Our Outreach Teaching Assistants and Teachers support students who aren’t currently able to attend school, for example because of mental or physical health needs or challenges in previous schools.

This is a mobile role which requires flexibility; you and a teacher will work from a designated space in the family home, or at a local library, and offer personalized education for each student. Our ideal candidate is inclusive and uses the child as the starting point to plan an engaging and suitable curriculum which helps each child to meet their EHCP outcomes and grow academically too.

We work hard to match the right student with the right teacher and Teaching Assistant; you may be an expert with students in a particular age group (our students range from 6 to 16), subject, or enjoy working with students who have particular needs such as SEMH, hearing impairments or Autism Spectrum Condition. Almost all of our students have EHCPs, though their needs are quite varied. Our students benefit from creative approaches to learning so you can have fun with how to you teach!

Because of their vulnerabilities and often disrupted learning experiences, our students need a caring approach and our work is underpinned by the principles of Attachment Theory. To flourish in this role you must care about children and believe that every child deserves the best opportunity to achieve their potential, whatever that looks like.

The ideal candidate will also be able to develop positive relationships with parents and carers. Experience working with students with SEND or in a Special School is advantageous but not essential. We’re also interested in hearing from applicants who have other experiences in the SEND arena for example, parents and carers of students with SEND often have a wealth of valuable knowledge and experience to offer.

Do you have experience working with the church in disasters? Do you have a vision for supporting the church to reduce disaster risk and strengthen resilience in communities around the world? If so, then we want to hear from you!

At Tearfund, we  know that in disasters and crises, the local church plays a critical role.Present before, during and after an emergency, churches can and do have a significant impact on disaster risk reduction and resilience building, therefore at Tearfund we seek to equip churches to be  centres of transformation, addressing the  disaster risks that keep people in poverty.

This global role will support our Church-focused work, as part of  Tearfund's  'Crisis to Resilience' (C2R) corporate priority, and will play a special role in coordinating and supporting projects which cut across a number of teams.

As part of this role, the successful postholder will focus on a number of key areas, including:

• Development and/or adaptation and promotion of key C2R resources, policies procedures and materials
• Learning, Research and analysis (internal and external) to strengthen the evidence based for the role of the church in disasters
• Training and communications support with a focus on C2R
• Church/faith network engagement with a focus on disasters and emergencies

The successful candidate will be highly organised, self-motivated and able to multi-task in the face of competing deadlines. Applicants should have strong written and verbal communications skills, and  will have proven experience in the following areas:

• Creating training and communication materials, policies, guidelines, policies and procedures
• Working collaboratively with peer organisations in emergency response and disaster risk management work 
• Project administration 
• Research, evaluations or other learning activities
• Working with churches and/or national  partners in a relief or development setting
• Working cross-culturally

Are you the person we are looking for?

Location: This is a global role and can be based in any country where Tearfund is registered and legally able to employ staff.

Applicants must be willing to travel (approximately 4 weeks per year) and should have excellent written and spoken English. 

Hybrid working in the UK: This role is eligible for hybrid working in the UK and you will be required to work from the Teddington Tearfund office and from your home by agreement with the line manager.

You will have a strong track record in delivering a well-established and respected high quality service.  You will have experience of leading and managing a small team, and confidence in building collaborative working relationships with a range of stakeholders.  You will also have experience of working directly with families who have children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
