Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) exists so nobody in Scotland suffers or dies because medical help cannot get there in time.

People can get sick or have accidents anywhere and anytime. But in Scotland there are places where urgent medical help cannot reach people. Or help gets there too late. And when lives are at risk every minute matters.

As a charity we rely on donations from the Scottish public, companies and communities to ensure that urgent medical help gets to the patient when it is needed, wherever they are and at whatever time of day.

SCAA is seeking to appoint an experienced, qualified, professional Finance Manager with strong analytical skills, capable of producing and presenting financial information in a succinct and straightforward manner. The preferred candidate will have experience of producing management accounts and other management information relating to organisational performance, cashflow, investment reporting and budget analysis.

Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills are essential. The appointed individual will be expected to liaise effectively with colleagues, Executive Team Members, Trustees and other colleagues within the Charity. They will also develop and strengthen relationships with banks, insurers, investment managers, auditors and other professionals. The person will be expected to produce and present a range of financial information, query and challenge any unusual and misleading information and to support his/her colleagues in the office as required to further the objectives of the charity.

This is a growing charity, and you will have a broad remit, and we are looking for a fully Qualified Accountant holding a CA, ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent membership with experience ideally gained in charity accounting, external reporting and internal management accounting.

The successful candidate is likely to be operating in a similar role in the Private, Public or Third sectors and looking for a new challenge.

As a member of our senior leadership team, reporting to our chief executive, you will manage, lead and develop our support and development team, with nine passionate and knowledgeable staff.

Your job is to ensure the team excels and thrives in its work supporting and developing our membership to increase its impact, in line with our strategic goals and members’ locally-determined plans and ambitions. Main responsibilities:

1. Manage, lead, support and develop our support and development (S&D) team, ensuring effective delivery and performance against our aims, objectives and plans, and ensuring the team’s work is well-planned, coordinated, evidenced and reported;
2. Lead on the development, delivery and regular review of a strategy and annual plans, targets and budgets for the S&D team, engaging the team and our funders effectively in this process, drawing on member, partner and Board input, and aligning with our overarching strategy;
3. Nurture a member-orientated, empowering, positive approach in the S&D team, in line with our values, ensuring high-quality provision of support, advice and signposting, balancing proactiveness and responsiveness, and being attentive to members’ needs and input, as well as wider contexts and opportunities;
4. Help our team to show positive leadership and provide intelligent, effective support, training and development services to our members around community engagement and empowerment, social inclusion and diversity, sustainable and healthy travel and socio-economic development – including by listening to members, continually developing the team’s knowledge, skills and networks, and enabling the team to signpost, refer to and collaborate with organisations with useful expertise/services;
5. Coordinating with our other teams, forge and maintain strong external partnerships, especially leading on those that help us support our members better and bring them opportunities, such as with train operators, corporate partners, third sector organisations, and at operational level with devolved/regional/combined authorities;
6. Continually monitor and develop the S&D team’s performance and impact, including using member, partner and colleague feedback, supporting staff to consider and maximise effectiveness, driving innovation and efficiencies, and developing ways to assess and evidence our impact, especially as our membership continues to grow;
7. Manage our activity supporting the creation and development of new or emerging community rail partnerships, station groups and community stations, and our support for those undergoing major change or challenges, ensuring this is carefully balanced with existing members’ needs;
8. Ensure our members’ voices, experiences and insights can be effectively used by our other teams and external partners, in their delivery, planning and strategic influencing work, especially ensuring that case studies, stories, examples and views are fed through to our communications, policy and events activity;
9. Play a key role in our liaison with and reporting to our own funders, and other major funders of our members, including ensuring effective monitoring and evaluation of our S&D work, collating good evidence of our own and our members’ impact, and maintaining a robust awareness of and ability to advocate on opportunities and risks in community rail;
10. As a member of our senior leadership team, work closely with senior colleagues and across the organisation, and liaise with our Board as relevant, to co-ordinate and manage the delivery of our overarching strategy, reinforce our values, ensure the whole team is engaged with our mission and purpose, and to show external leadership across our members, partners and beyond.

Skills and competencies:

1. Strong leadership and management skills, including a track record in managing, developing, drawing on and getting the best from a multi-faceted team, and working in and driving positive change in a complex, rapidly-evolving environment;
2. Significant experience and demonstrable experience in community engagement and community-led projects, ideally from both professional and voluntary positions, and ideally experience in supporting and advising community initiatives;
3. Experience in successfully planning, developing, delivering and evaluating programmes with positive social outcomes, including reporting to funders;
4. Experience working collaboratively and forming mutually-beneficial partnerships and professional networks, ideally with experience of developing corporate partnerships and/or funder relationships;
5. An understanding of how to evidence and increase social impact, particularly in relation to community development, empowerment and sustainability;
6. Awareness of and a strong commitment to community empowerment, social inclusion, social justice and sustainable development, with a good grasp of the importance of public transport and sustainable travel, and community-led action, to these agendas;

Other information

As you will be home-based and managing a dispersed team, we are flexible about your location. However, you will be expected to travel to our office in Huddersfield for in-person full-team meetings quarterly, and you will need to bring your team together at a central location with similar regularity in between. On top of this, attendance at occasional in-person events and partner meetings, and visits to members to learn more about community rail and assist the team, will be important. We therefore welcome applications from those with decent public transport links, not too far from a railway station to enable journeys to be made sustainably.

This is a full-time position, 37 hours per week. We use a flexi-time system, with the core hours 10am-3pm, and we are committed to being a flexible, supportive and understanding employer. This is a permanent position with a probationary period of six months.

The TSA is seeking a highly experienced, confident and capable Head of Fundraising to provide leadership and direction on all aspects of income generation. The charity has gone from strength to strength over the last 24 months, including income generation, and we are looking for an experienced fundraising professional to continue this amazing work.  

Working closely with the TSA’s Joint Chief Executives, you’ll join the Senior Management Team and will be expected to successfully implement our new three-year fundraising strategy, which aims to diversify and raise income in a sensible yet ambitious way.

Head of Fundraising responsibilities 

Strategic, leadership and management 

• Provide leadership for fundraising and income generation across the TSA team. Attend regular strategy meetings and be a leading voice in shaping the TSA’s income generation activities 

• Lead in the development, implementation and review of fundraising polices and strategy ensuring they are in line with the overall organisation business plan 

• Provide line management for the Fundraising Manager and Grants and Trusts Manager, including regular meetings and ensuring that the fundraising team are fulfilling all areas of their roles, meeting agreed KPI’s and achieving set income targets 

• Lead on the annual business planning and budget cycle for the income generation 

• Effectively collect and analyse data to demonstrate income trends, the impact of fundraising and income generation. Use this data to inform quarterly reports to the Board of Trustees, determine the impact of the team’s work and drive continual improvements in policy and practice 

• Attend and actively contribute to weekly TSA team meetings 

Income Generation and partnership 

• Lead on all income generation activities, with a focus on developing new fundraising initiatives for corporate giving, major donor fundraising, legacy giving and TSA appeals 

• Develop and deliver short and long-term fundraising and partnership strategy for the TSA. Ensure that the TSA has a balanced portfolio, and the fundraising team successfully delivers income across multiple streams

• Working closely with the Joint Chief Executives and Grants and Trusts Manager, expand the TSA’s range of research funding sources to include public, academic, commercial and innovation funding alongside investment from the TSA itself 

• Accurately forecast and monitor against income generation targets 

• Identify opportunities to work with partners on areas of common interest where the TSA can achieve more through joint funding, gifts in kind (such as time or services) or delivering joint projects than the charity could do by working alone 

• Ensure the TSA’s fundraising policies, procedures are up to date and that all fundraising activities comply with law and the Fundraising Regulator guidelines 

• Continue to maintain established, and develop new relationships with potential fundraising supporters and partners across all sectors 

Marketing and communications responsibilities 

• Work closely with the communications team to develop inspiring fundraising campaigns, appeals, cases for support and content for distribution across all digital platforms,including social media, e-newsletters and Scan magazine, website and fundraising platforms

This role sits within our Corporate Wellbeing Service team, where you will mainly work alongside our Head of Corporate Wellbeing Services and Corporate Fundraiser, to generate income for the charity through community engagement and events. You will be responsible for meeting the annual community and events income target. The role will require someone with strong organisational skills, and prior experience as a Fundraiser in another organisation. You will divide your time between developing, planning, and running events, supporting people to raise money on behalf of York Mind, and creating new relationships in the community, such as with schools and sports clubs. We have an annual calendar of both internal and external events, including our annual Mental Elf run, as well as challenges such as the York 10k and Yorkshire Marathon. Your role will be to fill events, and effectively steward and support people to raise as much money as possible through their participation. As part of your role in event coordination, you will be responsible for our fundraising volunteer base, including recruitment and effective utilisation of volunteers at our various events. Flexibility will be key, as some events happen on evenings and weekends. Another important part of this role will be engaging and developing relationships with community supporters. You should have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy getting out and about in the community (eg. sports clubs/community organisations) to grow our supporter base and look after those who we currently work with. Finally, the Corporate Wellbeing Services Team work collaboratively and therefore you should be able to work effectively as part of a team and be willing to support others in their roles to ensure the effective running of the whole department. For example, you may be involved in running campaigns and referring individuals to our training courses. This will require someone who is adaptable and supportive.

About the role 

Part of the senior management team, as Fundraising Manager, you will be responsible for generating vital income from a variety of sources, including community fundraising, individual giving, corporate partnerships, legacy donors, and trusts and foundations. 

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with the CEO, the Marketing & Communications Team and with Admin Support to build and shape the fundraising department from the ground up.

You will be provided with mentoring and support from a focused and driven Management and Trustee team with excellent internal & external fundraising expertise and training available to help you succeed and thrive in your new role.

As Fundraising Manager, you will have the following skills and experience: 

• Demonstrable experience and success in one or more of the following types of Fundraising - Community, Corporate, Legacy, Individual Giving or Trusts and Foundations. 

• Related field or equivalent experience in, Business, Marketing, Non-Profit Management, a related field or equivalent experience.

• Awareness of legislation surrounding Direct Marketing and compliance with the Fundraising Regulator's Code of Fundraising Practice. 

• Strong knowledge of donor development and customer service/supporter care principles. 

• Sound knowledge of GDPR and its impact on fundraising. 

• Experience in prospect research, identifying funding opportunities, and writing tailored applications. 

• Demonstrable experience of working in a fundraising team. 

• Experience in developing and implementing community fundraising initiatives. 

• Experience in creating and managing donor acquisition and retention campaigns.

About the role

The Head of Fundraising will be responsible for executing Pro Bono Economics’ (PBE) fundraising strategy under the Director of Development’s guidance. This role focuses on increasing and diversifying income through building relationships with trusts, foundations, corporates, and high-net-worth individuals, while also securing funding for specific research projects in collaboration with the research team. The role includes managing donor engagement, overseeing grant applications, leading a small team, and ensuring compliance with fundraising regulations, all while maintaining operational oversight of the fundraising department.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Fundraising strategy implementation: Deliver PBE’s multi-year fundraising strategy to expand and diversify income from major donors, trusts and foundations, corporate partners and research institutions
• New business development: Identify and secure new funding opportunities, focusing on building sustainable partnerships.
• Research support: Collaborate with the research team to identify funding for specific research projects and submit tailored grant proposals.
• Donor engagement: Steward relationships with existing donors, ensuring renewals and funding upgrades.
• Bid writing & reports: Develop and write compelling grant applications, case for support documents and reports which communicate PBE’s services and research programmes.
• Departmental leadership: Support the Director of Development in managing budgets, resources, and a fundraising officer, ensuring team efficiency and future planning.
• Regulatory compliance: Ensure adherence to fundraising regulations and policies, including GDPR and safeguarding.

About you

Report directly to the Director of Development, the Head of Fundraising will have the following experience and skills.

Experience

• You have senior fundraising experience across a broad mix of income streams, a talent for building partnerships, bid writing and a strategic mindset.
• Experience working with research-driven organisations is a plus, as is familiarity with CRM systems like Salesforce.
• You are happy to roll up your sleeves and spend as much time focused on immediate management and income priorities as you are on strategy and ideation.
• Will be suited to a senior fundraiser looking for their first Heads of role or someone who has already taken that step.

We are a dynamic, growing charity providing practical respite solutions for unpaid carers in the home and award winning day centres.  Are you and experienced fundraiser who can elevate us further through additional revenue streams?

With a turnover of £1.6m we are sustainable but have unfunded projects that will benefit our service users.  You would support our service areas from children to the elderly, physical disabilities to mental health, fundamentally improving the quality of life of people in our communities.

Role

You will need to be good at research and submit well written applications to grant making organisations.  You will also be good at building relationships so that we can gain year on year funding for our projects.

We want to work with smaller grant makers but also focus on large grant opportunities through the likes of National Lottery, Henry Smith etc.

As part of your role you would be good at IT, recording progress on our customised Salesforce CRM system.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

• At least 2 years’ experience of developing and delivering fundraising strategies and plans that support organisational growth
• Proven ability to identify and draft grant funding bids and other forms of funding applications
• Highly developed written and presentation skills with proven ability to write and present using a range of materials including emotive and compelling prose suitable for different audiences
• Good analytical and research skills with the ability to process and present complex information clearly and concisely

The Child Brain Injury Trust was originally set up by a group of medical professionals. The organisation has evolved over the years and is now the leading UK organisation supporting families and professionals affected by childhood acquired brain injury. As Head of our Brain Injury Service, you will be joining the charity at an exciting time, as we have just launched our new five-year strategy – Elevating families, enriching futures. The strategy is our most exciting yet as we look to increase our reach and embed 4 key areas of support: early intervention (currently we work in  major trauma centres and specialist hospitals across the UK), community inclusion, educational services and virtual support.
