The Association of Commonwealth Universities, a 400-strong global network working together to strengthen higher education across the Commonwealth, is seeking a new Head of Philanthropy to drive their fundraising strategy.
As the world’s first and oldest international university network, the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) has been bringing universities together from across the Commonwealth for more than 100 years. Our network currently encompasses over 400 universities in more than 40 countries.
In this newly created role, the Head of Philanthropy will develop and implement a philanthropic fundraising strategy for the ACU. In the longer term, we wish to continue building the existing endowment for the Queen Elizabeth Commonwealth Scholarships and develop new programmes to support our strategy, including our ground-breaking initiative, the King’s Commonwealth Fellowship Programme (KCFP). You’ll play a key role in our journey as we develop this unique and compelling new initiative, inspired by His Majesty The King, to strengthen the climate resilience of Commonwealth Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
This is an exciting opportunity to play a leadership role in developing a high-performing philanthropy function that will deliver income targets and further our mission of creating opportunities for individuals and strengthening universities.
You will work with high-calibre staff and volunteers, helping to drive and implement a major gift programme and undertake active fundraising. Working with the CEO and Director of External Affairs, you will cultivate and steward transformational relationships with high-net-worth individuals, trusts and foundations while overseeing the management and nurturing of a small fundraising team.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a proactive, senior major donor fundraiser who is comfortable at all levels of philanthropic cultivation, from prospecting and building a strong pipeline to building relationships and securing gifts from high-net-worth individuals and ultra-high-net-worth individuals.
Due diligence is critical to this role, so understanding and experience within this is key.
Person Specification:
• Direct experience of donor engagement and stewardship, including reporting.
• Direct experience, or a demonstrably clear understanding of fundraising ethics and gift acceptance.
• A leadership style that combines strategic vision and oversight with personal involvement and close attention to detail.
• A natural flair for building confidence among senior volunteers and colleagues.
• The ability, confidence and diplomatic awareness to work with senior stakeholders.
• Line management experience.

About the role
The Director of Business Development and Partnerships (DBDP) leads work at the interface between EngineeringUK and the engineering and technology sector that we represent and serve. As a member of the Executive Team, the DBDP brings critical insight of the corporate world and ensures that our engagement activities are relevant to them, represent their breadth and that our research, analysis and policy work draws on current and real-world experience. The Director leads a team that maintains established relationships with businesses, PEIs and funders and builds new relationships, encouraging organisations to support our work through funding, the provision of content and holistic partnership opportunities.
The Business & Industry team consists of 11 colleagues working under 4 pillars:
- New partnerships
- Corporate relationships
- Trusts and foundations
- Professional institutions and partnerships.
The Director has 4 line-reports: 3 Heads and one Manager. Each team has a slightly different role in meeting the B&I team strategy, but all work collectively to ensure that key industry bodies and businesses are engaged with our work.
New partnerships. Engage new businesses with our portfolio of activities including corporate membership, EUK Education programmes, The Tomorrow’s Engineers Code, policy, and other opportunities.
Corporate relationships. Responsible for account managing existing relationships with members, sponsors and funders including supporting STEM strategy development, organising peer-learning opportunities, upgrading membership/funding levels, networking them across EngineeringUK, and deepening engagement across multiple activities.
Trusts and foundations. Managing existing high-value partnerships with funders who support our programmes, engaging new funders to scale our work, working with other teams to develop compelling proposals and raise EngineeringUK’s profile in the grant-making space.
Professional institutions and partnerships. Coordinate engagement with PEIs across EngineeringUK, ensuring a consistent approach and maximising joint value from our partnership. Securing new partnerships (and then managing, renewing and cross-selling the relationship) with SME clusters.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, and as part of the Executive Team, the DBDP is expected to understand the governance requirements of charities and companies and work with the Board of EngineeringUK to support decision making.
The role is London based at our office at 10 Lower Thames Street, London EC3R 6EN and may involve some travel in the UK . We believe that hybrid working has many benefits and are pleased to offer flexible working with a minimum of 2 days (or 40%) a week in the office and the option for a flexible start and end to the working day in our vibrant central London office overlooking the Thames. About This Job
This is an exciting training role in Army Cadet Headquarters responsible for the coordination, development and implementation of strategic training policy across the Army Cadets.
We are looking for a training professional to bring their skills, enthusiasm, and personal credibility to the team and lead on the training governance, strategic policy, and implementation of training requirements across both our volunteer staff and employed workforce.
This role is key to ensuring Army Cadets training meets the governance requirements of the MOD, and follows required process and procedure, whilst forging its own dynamic and flexible youth training policies to meet the needs of a modern youth organisation.
This position is a permanent full-time post (40 hours per week) which will be office based in Cadets Branch, HQ Regional Command in Aldershot, however significant homeworking will be permitted. The starting salary for the post will be £32,600 per annum.

Sightsavers’ Trusts and Corporate Partnerships team is excited to be expanding its team in response to growing demands and opportunities in the trusts & foundation sector. We are recruiting for two additional Trusts & Foundations Advisors to be key contributors to the development of Sightsavers trusts and foundations programme. They will play a crucial role in the successful recruitment and cultivation of new business, while also managing a portfolio of existing trust and foundation donors primarily based in the UK, U.S and Europe.
