Located in Tower Hamlets, we welcome people of all ages to our large, friendly community centre in Shoreditch where we offer a wide range of activities promoting wellbeing and social connections. Our services include sensory play for Under-5’s, youth programmes, wellbeing activities for those experiencing mental health issues, bilingual advice, and activities to reduce social isolation and enhance physical and mental wellbeing for older people. We also run a day centre in Shadwell, where we care for elders from the Bangladeshi and other communities. 

We employ over 40 staff and engage about 65 volunteers each year. In a recent survey of our staff, more than three-quarters reported St Hilda's as a great place to work, and this role will help embed best practice relating to employment and volunteering to ensure we can build upon this positivity. The postholder will work closely with our Senior Leadership Team and the Board, including a Trustee who has several decades experience as a HR manager and consultant. The role would highly suit someone in the early stages of their career in HR wishing to expand upon their experience or, alternatively, someone with a career in HR behind them, looking for a change of scene and to get involved in a mission driven charity. 

The postholder will provide support and guidance on HR matters to all staff and managers, helping to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture. Our newly refreshed strategic priorities include a commitment to increasing volunteer participation within the charity’s work, and the postholder will play a key role in implementing this priority by improving our procedures and enhancing our capacity.     

This job is for you, if you: 

• Have at least 2 years’ experience in HR administration and practice, ideally within the charity sector.
• A good working knowledge of employment legislation and best practice in people management. 
• The ability and passion to drive forward an agenda around staff and volunteer engagement and wellbeing.

About the role 

You will work closely with the Housing First team, colleagues and accommodation providers, to place clients directly into homes in places they want to be. Then you will work with them to develop outcome-focused support plans that reflect their personal strengths and goals, to make sure that they can sustain their accommodation and thrive in their community. 

Also you will coordinate support around your client and act as a key worker to help them sustain their accommodation and move forward with their lives. This will mean coordinating interventions provided by other agencies so that the right support is provided at the right time, to enable the service user to progress on their journey to recovery.  Giving full advice on different issues such as homelessness and housing options, tenancy issues e.g. dampness and disrepair, welfare and housing benefits, debt and employment is also a key aspect of the role. You will need to visit clients in their homes or community locations which could be anywhere in Dorset. 

About you 

You will need a relevant background that includes experience of housing, homelessness and welfare benefits law and experience supporting people who are vulnerable and/or have multiple disadvantage. Through this you will have a good working knowledge of safeguarding frameworks. Proficiency using a range of IT tools to carry out your work, including Microsoft Office applications is important too. If you have experience of using case managements systems this is an advantage, but not essential. The role will need you to visit clients in their homes so you will need a valid driving licence and be willing to use your vehicle for work purposes - for which an essential car user allowance will be paid.

Shine’s Health Team 

Shine’s Health Team provides condition-specific health advice and support to people of all ages with spina bifida, hydrocephalus, NPH or IIH, promoting good self-management and enabling our members to live in optimum health.  The Team also aims to reduce the numbers of pregnancies affected by spina bifida and anencephaly through education around supplementation and fortification with folic acid, and other measures. 

Purpose of Job 

The Shine Nurse Specialist will deliver services and create resources to improve the health of Shine’s members, by informing members, their carers and professionals 

Principal Duties 

• To provide ad hoc advice to Shine’s members, their carers  and professionals on complex health issues, and signpost to NHS services 

• To attend and represent Shine at the Chelsea & Westminster Spina Bifida Clinic (for permanent role)

• To collect information, statistics and research from a variety of sources to inform Shine’s health projects 

• To create resources to inform and support members’ health 

• To develop training/information resources for professionals 

• To plan and deliver projects, events, presentations and information sessions for members and professionals 

• To provide an information resource for Shine staff 

• To form and engage with networks of health professionals 

• To represent Shine at events and meetings 

• To work closely with the Health Research & Information Coordinator to produce and disseminate health information to Shine members and the general public 

Skills and Experience 

Essential

We are looking for a skilled administrator to join our Corporate Donations and Purchasing team as a Buying Administrative Assistant for our Shops

As a Buying Administrative Assistant, you'll support the Corporate Donations and Purchasing team in all aspects of their role and work with a large variety of products from our retail portfolio.

You'll be responsible for supporting many elements of the critical path for the product range life cycle. This will include:

• Managing administrative tasks with a high degree of accuracy
• Collaborating closely with multiple internal stakeholders including the wider Buying & Merchandising teams, Corporate Partnerships, Internal Communications and Marketing teams adhering to deadlines
• Building rapport with external stakeholders including donors and suppliers to co-ordinate activities, facilitate stock movements, answer queries and minute discussions
• Managing internal systems and spreadsheets
• Supporting the Buying team to identify key trends to incorporate into product ranges & support product launches on time

 
Working arrangements

This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our Northampton office.

The use of our office spaces is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do. This may vary from time to time, so you must be prepared to work in a flexible way to unlock your best work for our cause. Most of our colleagues on blended contracts can expect to spend some time in their office each week, on average.

About you

We're looking for a team player, able to build excellent relationships and communicate effectively with people across the organisation.

The role requires a high degree of proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and preferably PowerPoint and SharePoint. Training will be provided for our internal IT retail systems.

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have excellent attention to detail and strong time management skills
• Have a willing and can-do approach
• Be a team member and highly efficient administrator
• Be IT proficient in MS Office

Interview process
