Who we are
Shine is a registered charity, which was formed in 1966, initially to help families and individuals affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus.
In a nutshell, Shine provides specialist support from before birth and throughout the life of anyone living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff. Shine enables people to get the best out of life.
Today, Shine is a community of 75,000 individuals, families, friends, and professionals, sharing achievements, challenges and information on living with hydrocephalus, or spina bifida, and related issues.
Working together throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland, we strive to overcome challenges and achieve the best for you and your family.

STATEMENT OF POLICY
Shine recognises that we live in a society where discrimination still operates to the disadvantage of many groups in society.

The Chief Executive has specific responsibility for the effective implementation of this policy. Each director also has responsibilities and we expect all our employees to abide by the policy and help create the equality environment which is its objective.

• Communicate the policy to employees, members, volunteers, and relevant others.
• Ensure that adequate resources are made available to fulfil the objectives of the policy.
